center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> well, it is a one-two punch. one winter storm is is over but another is brewing that could not only be bigger but have worse timing arriving during the monday morning commute. two winter storms in the matter of just hours, good evening, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. let's get right to meteorologist justin drabick. he's monitoring the very latest on our next winter storm. we've already moved on justin. >> that's right, natasha we're month fg into a progressive weather pattern and it's going to be cold. temperatures cold enough to support snow but the good news is tonight our first storm system this weekend moving out. so there's goes the steady rains off the coast of new jersey. starting to clear the skies up a little bit. partly cloudy skies from philadelphia on westward. however, this will allow the temperatures to drop tonight so we have standing water some slush on the roads there could be some icy spots through the overnight hours. early morning we had decent

amount of snows up into the lehigh valley, berks county, forks township 8-inches, eight up around allentown. ewing picking up almost half a foot. up deer day 2-inches at the airport 1 inch of snow. 37 degrees the current number right now, 36 in allentown below freezing in mount pocono. these numbers drop below freezing tonight. that's why we have to keep the threat for icy conditions. untreated surfaces and standing water will refreeze so use caution overnight early sun morning. not a bad day sunday. some sunshine and clouds, temperatures well above freezing in the low 40's in philadelphia and at the shore near 30 and the poconos with some sunshine but coming up we're talking about another snowstorm and some arctic cold behind that system. i'll let you know how long that lasts coming up in a few minutes. now is a good time to download the cbsphilly weather app. get live radar and track the storms. you can find it on google play and itunes.

>> justin thank you. many of you did spend the day cleaning up from this winter weather. steve patterson takes us to montgomery county for a look at conditions there. >> reporter: rumble in the suburbs. while you were sleeping, franconia montgomery county came alive with the low rumble of plows clearing anywhere from two to 6-inches off the road. >> a little treacherous coming down. they didn't have too many things plowed up and opened. >> reporter: bam bruener manages a local cafe. she drove in before the work started. >> definitely want to be precautious. it's slippery around the cornersism as the morning progressed snow turned to a nasty mix before becoming a light rain making travel on side roads hazardous unless you're cheryl. >> it's fun just slippery. >> reporter: if you're struggling to keep your new year's resolution kind of fun for cheryl is a 8-mile run during a severe weather event. yes, that is ice on her face.

no, she doesn't care. >> doesn't bother me. >> reporter: by the time the sun came up it was hard to imagine there was bad weather at all. >> roads are great. >> reporter: moral of the story, the snow came and montgomery county was ready. in montgomery county, steve patterson, cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> oh, the snow shovels were out in collingswood. cbs3 "eyewitness news" along haddon avenue as residents cleared snow and slush from their sidewalks today. >> it's wet it's wet snow, it's kind of heavy but there's not much of it so this is an easy cleanup. we're grateful for just a little bit. >> reporter:. >> john says he's at least happy he don't have to use his snowblower not this time around but you might want to keep it handy. also the snow turned philadelphia's rittenhouse square into a winter wonderland. you can see at least an inch on the grass as folks are walking by. we've gotten a lot of great "eyewitness news" cam pictures and we appreciate it. this shot was sent in to us

from peter norman in warrington township. peter's patio furniture was covered with several inches. lower moreland township courtesy of bill williams. the heavy snow weighing down heavily on the trees and power lines. in levittown kevin williams center in this nice shot here from his backyard as the thick snowflakes were still falling. now we would love to see more of great shots from you so keep them coming. if you would like to share any of them with us you can send them to "eyewitness news" using the hashtag cbs3 storm. developing now bomb threats made against two plains atlanta's airport. southwest airlines flight 2492 from milwaukee and delta airlines flight 1156 from portland oregon landed safely in atlanta. all the passengers were taken off and the planes were searched. we're told the bomb threats are being described as credible. no other details are being given at this time. we'll stay on top of that developing situation.

>> welcome back. islamic state militants say they have killed one of two japanese hostages that they have held since last year. militants posted a photo of hostage kenji goto holding a photograph of fellow hostage. it indicates he had been beheaded. both men were captured in syria and the terrorists had demanded that japan pay $200 million for their release. japan's government says it is working to confirm kukawa's death. king salmon received condolences from world leaders following the death of king abdullah. the 90-year-old died on friday. he was buried in an unmarked grave after a prayer service

in riyadh. heads of state from around the world are arriving in saudia arabia to pay their final respects in meetings with saudi royals. >> all right, check this out. today's wintry weather was the perfect backdrop for a frozen fundraiser. cbs3 "eyewitness news" in bensalem this morning as more than 500 people braved the ice cold temperatures and plunged into the delaware river. the seventh annual eastern polar bear plunge benefits the special olympics. this year over $100,000 was raised. great job everyone. now time for some hot chocolate. you can count on that. look at those guys. so brave out there today in the rain, the snow and temperatures in the 30's. right now our air temperatures from the weather watchers are above freezing in most spots. that's good news but that's going to change later on tonight as skies begin to clear out a little bit but early this morning still some impressive snowfall amounts especially just north of the city, even in nra new jersey, moorestown picking up 1 inch philadelphia also 1 inch,

riverside new jersey ron russell an inch and a half. farther north and west gilbertsville 6-inches of snow. what about the rain? that's half the story. over an inch in tuckerton new jersey reported by tim mitchell. john in glasgow delaware, .91. decent amount of rain upwards of an inch in some spots. improving conditions tonight we'll keep it dry sunday before we see our next storm system move into the region. one place that's going to benefit from the snow obviously is the poconos. live look at big boulder loving this setup. the next several days going to be cold, excellent conditions for fresh snow and man-made snow as well. storm scan3 shows the back edge of this first storm moving out of the region as it continues to intensify off the new england coastline. skies breaking up a little bit so we'll call it part to mostly cloudy overnight. dry weather to our west but our next clipper will rapidly move in during the day tomorrow and impact our region late tomorrow night. 36 at the airport right now in

allentown, 35 in reading upper 30's in south jersey and millville and atlantic city and it gets a little bit colder north and west. pittsburgh 29. 30 degrees in state college and once this next system moves in we're going to see a plunge of arctic air. so it's a clipper. initially it comes in pretty light and then we're going to watch it intensifies as it moves off the cost later during the day monday. where does it intensify? how close to the coast? well, that's determines how much snow and who sees the most snow from this s as of right now it looks like light snow begins to develop later tomorrow night say between 9:00 p.m. and midnight and that period of snow will continue off and on on the light side initially at least through the first half of monday. later monday night into tuesday morning we're going have to watch to see where that system develops. but here's the expected snowfall amounts at this point. starting sunday night through the day on monday, generally about 3 to 6 inches -- near 3-inches here around philadelphia with higher amounts to the east.

go to coastal new jersey it looks like coastal new jersey benefits the most from this system and then lesser amounts farther north and west you go one to three in the adjacent northwest suburbs up through the lehigh valley. there could be higher amounts across eastern new jersey especially later monday night depending on where that storm intensifies. here's the setup. dry day on sunday. sunshine around. clouds start to move in during the afternoon. later sunday night into the overnight we start to see that light snow breaking out if west to east. this is going to be enough to cause problems for the monday morning commute. again, initially this is just some light snow but later on monday night, tuesday we start to see this storm develop. this particular model keeps most of the moisture off shore but some other models want to bring it back farther west and there's enough cold air in place where we could cestaer snows monday night tuesday. we have to keep an eye on that exact track. temperatures tomorrow back into the low 40's so slightly above average maybe in some spots. then we're going to see clouds move in. here's that snow that cools the temperatures back down to near freezing on monday so

these temperatures support an all snow event from this next system and once that storm passes, we see arctic air just dumping into the region. it's breezy overnight, partly cloudy, low of around 30 for center city, some 20's in the suburbs. not quite as cold for sunday, 41 for the high temperature. here we go with the extended forecast. light snow arrives late tomorrow night through the day on monday. tuesday still some lingering snow showers especially depending on where the exact track from that intensifying storm goes and i think finally wednesday we see some sunshine. still cold. highs in the low 30's. by the end of the week maybe some flurries early friday morning and it stays chilly, though. get ready, we're in a cold arctic weather pattern again with a system coming in every two, three days we'll see some shots of snow coming up. >> okay, we'll be ready. >> it is winter. >> it is winter, yes. thanyou just tinge let's check in with lesley see what's going on in sports. deflate-gate of course. >> of course. what else? yes, deflate-gate continues. patriots head coach bill belichick held a press conference today saying they did not cheat.
