you. a powerful nor'easter is about to barrel up the east coast and it's going to drop a lot of snow in its path. our live team three coverage begins tonight with meteorologist justin drabick. he's tracking the major snowstorm in the cbs3 weather center. >> good evening, natasha. that's right, the first round of the storm moving into parts of the area later on this evening. again, we're not going to see a whole lot through the overnight hours. tomorrow night we get the main event. looking at storm scan3 temperatures warm today. we got close to 50 degrees so many areas seeing some light rain, lancaster county down towards cecil county maryland. a few snowflakes trying to break out across northern berks county. later this evening we'll start to see light snow overspread the region and that could impact the morning commute through the early morning hours into the first half of the afternoon. winter storm warnings fouters in pink. this goes in effect at noontime for monday. this includes philadelphia, south jersey, bucks montgomery county. the areas in blue poconos

lehigh valley, down through delaware that's a winter storm watch. the question is how far does that heavy snow, how far west does it get? still have to determine that. we have to wait until the storm develops. blizzard warning will go into effect tomorrow at noon for ocean, monmouth county where we could have winds gust to go 50 miles an hour blowing snow will reduce visibility and that's where we'll see thes eye of the highest snowfall accumulation. tonight through monday light snow develops 9 o'clock until midnight. general through the day monday to maybe 3-inches of accumulation. now tomorrow night into tuesday that storm intensifies off the coast. that's when we get the heavy snow over 1 inch per hour snowfall rates possible especially across eastern new jersey. additional 6 to 12-inches maybe more than that as winds gust over 30 miles an hour maybe up to 50 near the coach. temperatures holding in the lower 40's for philadelphia but there's cold air that will work its way in tonight. coming up in the full forecast we'll time out the storm and talk about the snow amounts through the delaware valley.

keep your eye on the storm along with me and now is the perfect time to down loads the cbsphilly what. get live radar and track the snowstorm as it moves through our area. you can find it on google play and on itunes. >> justin thank you. plows and salt trucks are ready to hit the roads again. we continue our team coverage with "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers live at penndot headquarters in norristown. it's about to get real busy there i'm sure, matt. >> reporter: absolutely. we'll call this the calm before the proverbial storm here at the salt yard. all kinds of penndot crews coming here to salt yards just like this one across our region filling up their trucks ready for the real work to begin. nearly 400 trucks are expected to cover all the state roads in philadelphia's five county penndot region. officials say they have been brining the roads throughout the day today in preparation for the upcoming one-two punch. penndot has around 90,000 tons of salt on hand and expects to

use a whole bunch of it once the snow starts falling. officials hope the clipper system that moves through our area tonight goes by quickly because monday night into tuesday the true hard work begins. >> the state crews will be on 12 hour shifts so it's going to be incumbent that once our operators get off duty, that they get rest because they will be coming back when we have a system that is going to not break up and start on sunday night and continue probable into tuesday night. >> reporter: and you can bet that the department transportations in both new jersey and delaware are gearing up in a very similar manner. as for penndot they say this is the tenth winter event they've had to deal with so far this year. this will surely be the worst so far. live in norristown, matt rivers "eyewitness news." >> pse&g is also getting their crews ready to roll as well. they're telling us extra workers will be on hand starting tomorrow and additional supplies are being

it ban when police respond to do a domestic dispute. >> you point guns at the cop you're going to get shot. >> reporter: moral of the story says neighbor bingo cross who went outside sunday morning to the sight of a body in the drive way next door. >> there's criminals and there's cops. when you looking down that barrel it really don't matter. >> reporter: police responded to the home in the 300 block of new brooklyn road in winslow township. investigators say it was in response to a domestic dispute turned violent a man chasing a woman with a gun. when police arrived shortly after 10 o'clock they say they confronted that man who pointed a gun at an officer and they shot and killed him. >> the guy neighbor pointed a gun at the cops and they shot him. >> reporter: here's what happened. police get a call to this residence. it is there neighbors say a man couples out with a gun chasing a woman, chases her from this home across the street over to where you see that drive way with the large tree. it's there he confronts police points a gun at an officer is that shot and killed. >> i mean, 'cause they're going to shoot you if you

point a gun at them. why would he do that. >> reporter: why he did it is under investigation. police recovered a weapon at the scene. they're also trying to determine if the man fired a shot at the officer during the incident. no one else was hurt. in winslow township, steve patterson, cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> a rally in south philadelphia designed to show the police department that residents have their backs. the group walked from broad and oregon to city hall today for a memorial service honoring philadelphia police officers killed in the line of duty. >> they are human beings. they do have a heart. they're people. they're mothers and fathers sisters and brothers, children of others and they need to be treat they had way. >> well, shirts were sold for $15 with proceeds benefiting the fraternal order of police survivors fund. also a memorial to the lost in overbrook. each t-shirt bears the name and age of a person killed on the streets of philadelphia

last year. 203 in total. the group heeding god's call organized today's interfaith prayer service just outside overbrook presbyterian church. their goal is to keep guns from falling into the hands of the wrong people. a student at rowan university is recovering after being shot at an off campus apartment complex. investigators say the gunman sped off in a car which was eventually located by police. two people were taken in for questioning. one is being held on a previous warrant as the shooting remains under investigation. now, two weeks have passed since the disappearance of a dell bare mother and today with her husband behind bars, family and friends they all came together seeking answers. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhury has more. >> we're willing to do anything we can to find her, so our family is commited to finding keisha. we're not going to stop until we find herrism family members with more than 300 volunteers combed through woods and fields in smyrna delaware sunday searching for keisha

hamilton reported missing on january 10, along with two of her four children. >> we're here because keisha was caring and loving and she has four children who desperately trying to find their mother so we appreciate the community's support. >> reporter: soon after the disappearance, keisha's husband cortez hamilton was found in indiana with their two children who are both safe. but there has been no sign of keisha. family members believe her husband is responsible for her disappearance. >> i believe the same thing that he's done something horrific to my sister. >> reporter: and why is that. >> because he's a horrible person. >> reporter: cortez hamilton was charged with endangering the welfare of his children and assault. he was extradited back to delaware friday. more than 20 state police troopers helped lead the search sunday morning. >> they don't want to leave any stone unturned and we're doing everything we can with the resources we have to help search for her. >> reporter: as for cortez hamilton he remains in jail but he has not been charged with any crime in connection

>> storm scan3 is about to get very busy. it's tracking a major winter storm. snow that will arrive in a matter of hours couldn't fall for days. meteorologist justin drabick has the latest on just how much snow we can expect in just a couple of minutes. also power outages and damages throughout southern california early this morning after strong santa ana winds ripped through the region. instruments recorded gusts up to 89 miles per hour in some areas. strong enough to rip down trees nd topple utility poles. more than 54,000 homes lost electricity but ruse crews have been working nonstop to get power back on line. 30 people killed by rebel rocket fire as the crisis in ukraine wages on. shocking new video from a driver who was caught in the line of fire. now without warning shells began landing within several feet of this car as the dash cam was still rolling.

parts of the region. colder in lahaska 33 degrees. collingswood had a milder 40. lieu in eagleville at 36. lee in newark delaware she's at 41 degrees. kathy in wenonah new jersey coming in at a nice 44-degree temperature so again initially some of this precipitation moving in later tonight could come in the form of rain but then the cold air works its way in. we'll see light snow developing later tonight. let's take you to the poconos and see what's happening. these guys will love the fresh snow, potential for 6 to 12-inches in the mountains as we head through later tuesday and skiers and riders are loving it now. let's go to storm scan3. here's the setup. again, this storm right now is just a clipper system. typically they're fast moving systems, not a lot of moisture. this one is a little bit stronger. it's taken more of a southerly track that allows it to gain more strengths and moisture. as it exits the coast it will turn into a strong nor'easter

or blizzard for parts of new england. light snow moving into western pennsylvania. few sprinkles coming down in the western suburbs in the delaware valley. maybe a couple sprinkles in northern chester and montgomery county this hour but into harrisburg we go and points west we're starting to see some of that light snow break out on radar. that will continue to move westward into the overnight hours. 42 degrees officially at the airport, 25 in mount pocono, 38 in reading so again we're above freezing right now. that's that's going to change later tonight. there's that colder air just to the north of this system. 31 in pittsburgh, 21 in cleveland. that's all going to drain southward. behind that clipper system as it passes by so it will get colder. so as we head through the overnight through the first half of monday, again initially the system is weak, we see light snow, enough to cause problems during the morning hours. when it moves off shore and meets up with the jet stream and intensifies, tracks up the coast, how far westward it gets will determine how heavy

the snow gets. here's how the storm strengthens. it's the jet stream. this circle meets up with a system later monday into tuesday and really fires thing up as it intensifies and moves through the northeast. it will be a nor'easter monday night into tuesday. that's when we see the worst of it, heavy snow at times tomorrow night into tuesday morning, winds 40 miles per hour blowing snow that will drop the visibility down to about a quarter of a mile so certainly hazardous travel and again potential blizzard conditions across northeastern new jersey. total accumulations from sunday night through tuesday again for philadelphia surrounding locations, south jersey up into the lehigh valley, potential for eight to 14-inches. more the farther east you go because you're closer to the storm so parts of southern and eastern bucks county into burlington county, ocean county 14 to 20 potentially over or up to 2 feet of snow in parts of northern and ocean into monmouth county where we have the blizzard warning. the far west you go the

amounts drop off. the track will determine how much we see. if it tracks farther west higher snowfall amounts go east. if it goes east we drop from west to east. the storm hasn't quite developed just yet. overnight low light snow moves into the region off and on through the day so expect a slower morning commute. could be some icy spots out there with a light accumulation. later monday night, this is 11 o'clock the storm really ramps up. you see that heavy snow across coastal new jersey. we're going to watch how far west pardon does that snow line get. this is early afternoon by tuesday finally we start to see improving conditions so looks like the snow wraps up later tuesday morning. winds do gust to near 40 miles an hour at the coast during the day monday into tuesday. that's by we're going to see that blowing snow throughout the entire region. overnight light snow develops 30 for the overnight temperature. periods of snow through the day monday. again it's light during the day. then it becomes heavy at night with a high 34 degrees.

extended forecast that heavy snow monday night into tuesday morning. we'll see sunshine wednesday. it stays cold through the end of the week. friday there could be some morning light snow, maybe an inch there. pretty chilly, 20's to around 30 next weekend. looks like snow will stick around on the ground. >> really plow up into a continuation. >> yeah, couple shots. >> thank you justin. let's can check in see what's happening in sports. lesley. >> i'm going to talk about another big event, one of the biggest sporting events in the world taking place in arizona super bowl xlix between seattle and new england. last week they came back from a 16-point half time deficit to beat the packers and are looking to become the first team in a decade to repeat as champs. >> we had a phenomenal week this past week getting prepared just like last year and so we're looking forward to that. looking forward to getting out there and practicing. what it really comes down to is playing great football come game day. >> the last team to repeat was the new england patriots. they held one last practice
