now. lets look at what we do know right now pennsylvania governor tom wolf has issued a disaster emergency proclamation to allow state agencies to use all resources necessary. here in philadelphia a state of emergency has just gone into effect that means cars needs to be off snow emergency routes or they will be relocated. >> meantime in new jersey governor chris christie declared a state of emergency as storm sweeps through the garden state. the highest accumulations are expect to be in ocean and monmouth counties. new jersey transit will be shutting down starting at 8:00 o'clock tonight, services will even by ten and they won't be backup and running until thursday at the earliest. in philadelphia international airport more than a thousand flights in and out of been canceled so far today and into tomorrow. we have team coverage with reporters spread across the region tonight but first lets check with our meteorologist kathy orr and skate bilo tracking this storm for us and kate, we will begin with you in the weather center.

>> chris, it is developing as we speak. as we look at storm scan three you can see, the rotation, a along del marva peninsula and our storm is gathering strength and intensifying late tonight. you can see some band of snow moving in through long island into new york as storm continues to intensify and purchase move to the north and east ape will throw back moisture in the philadelphia area overnight tonight when heavier snow will fall. we will look closer and you can see the ban forming along long island, and expressway heading in to new york and all this will be filling in toward philadelphia late tonight. all this precipitation down through the shore and also through delaware where we are seeing rain will be changing over to snow as cold air gets pull down as well. we have a winter weather advisory to the west where we expect light's accumulation farther from the storm. there will be a sharp cut off from light accumulation to heavier a accumulation. winter storm warnings there philadelphia and interior south jersey. we have a blizzard warning as we talk about before from

monmouth county and ocean counties, this is where we do expect whipping wind, gusts to 50 miles an hour and, of course heavier snow. thinks a big storm for new jersey. our future weather picking up on heavier bands forming in new york and long island and throwing storm down that i-95 corridor. at 1:00 a.m. we expect to see heavier snow in philadelphia, interior south jersey and banding going on. by 8:00 a.m. still seeing heavier snow and, interior south jersey eastwar. philadelphia and west will taper you have from west to east over the course of the morning. this is is a different nor'easter then what we have seen in a while. heavier amounts in new jersey. we're also watching the storm throwing back moisture. not the typical big storm that comes up the eastern seaboard where we watch it for hours and also days. we will watch about how much precipitation is thrown back and the western cut off. there will be a sharp cut off between who sees the very heavy snow and who sees the

light's accumulation because of the exact track and development of this low. things will be watching very carefully throughout the evening. our team weather continues with meteorologist kate bilo on the die deck with more on the timing of this nor'easter and the wind, kate that will be picking up tonight. >> that is right, the kathy, you will deal with low visability as snow gets blown around and drifted as well. what kathy says is what you want to remember that is sharp western cut off to the storm. the you can go a few miles to the east and see more snow then you have at your house. just that really tight gradient we will see through overnight hours. lets look at what to expect as we head through remainder on have authentic. storm time between 8:00 and midnight. we expect light to maryland rate snow. storm has not fully develop yet. what we are seeing is light snow moderate snow in delaware continuing for next several hours. between midnight and 8:00 is when heavier snow will fall. band could exceed an inch per hour and thunder snow possible

in coastal northern new jersey between 8:00 a.m. and midnight. 8:00 a.m. and noon. light snow. still moderate to we ha new jersey and starts to lift out and continue to have move upward, over new england. future win gusts look at how these ramp up. we are seeing gusty wind all across the region but by ten wind topping 35 miles an hour the the shore. during overnight hours they will strengthen and start to slacking up. tomorrow morning we are still dealing with 25 to 30 miles an hour gusts. the and the wind not as strong as early tomorrow morning as what we will see during the overnight hours. what to expect, coming up, we will talk about how much snow will fall, what you will get in your area, main impact, concerns with this storm as well and then we have got more snow to talk about. one system thursday night. another one by sunday night as we start off february. things certainly getting interesting and a lot more cold in the forecast as well. kathy will have more coming up in just a few minutes. now back to you in the studio. >> things are getting very interesting, kate thanks very

much. state of emergency in new jersey prompted a many residents to get home today hurrying home before conditions deteriorate. "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan is live in hamilton township. how is it looking there. >> chris still light steady snow. the treatment is doing its job on route 206. this is a very popular way for people to get in and out of, trenton, a lot the left earl ter day where we will see some volume, and officials and people telling people to get home and stay home. >> we're not going out. and. >> reporter: warm, bowl of soup in the broad street diner and prepare for a snowstorm. >> i hate, i have no love for it. pretty hot in the trees i can do without the rest of it. >> reporter: everyone has to get ready. groceries and gas are popular items a at quick check on olden avenue. >> it is pretty bad out here.

everybody is doing their best to prepare. >> we will deal witt. we are central new jersey. we are tough. >> reporter: throughout the afternoon, activity pick up at state's mergecy center. parts of the new jersey are getting 2 feet have snow but equally concerning in some area is the win. there could be white out conditions near the shore as well as drifting, which complicates plowing. >> what we see often times is those roadways never clear by, and department of transportation, and it drifts back over. we cannot predict when that will happen. we will ask people to stay off these roadways. >> reporter: snow is starting to stick to the parking lot in the broad street diner, same story, side streets just a matter of time before main roadways are covered in snow. you have to watch out because plow operations will be picking up. reporting live from hamilton township mercer county, cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". let's head east to ocean county, new jersey as we continue our team coverage of the storm. diana? >> reporter: jessica, we can already feel that win starting to pick up down here. it is cold. we have seen steady snow all day to day. it is that thick, heavy snow but that is about to change. we are live along route 37 where things are looking good at this hour. we have seep snowplows going by. they are staying on top of this. toms river is unlike rest of the philadelphia area in that we are going to see those blizzard-like conditions here. they are expect ago lot of snow here tonight. we are heading toward that second phase of the 1/2 punch and people all day to day have been getting ready. oh, fun just starting blizzard of 20 is 15 on its way and many in toms river are getting ready for whatever the overnight hours bring. it has been snowing for hours already and many are shoveling sidewalks and driveways gassing up snowblowers and generators should power go out.

predictions for shore areas have have been a as high as 2 feet and it has everyone making preparations for a day or two of being snowed in. >> bringing this back to the house to have in the garage in case power does go out. we had an issue with sandy. generators came in haines. we are breaking it out making sure it is all fueled up. >> i'm hoping everybody is safe. a lot of people need to be safe out there. >> reporter: so we're live along route 37 which is at this hour still looking pretty good but we talk to a lot of people who headed home early today they do not want to get stuck in whatever this storm has to bring. they were gassing up generators snowblowers. you satisfaction people at the grocery store earlier. they are ready for this one. they will sit home and watch how this plays out which is a very, good idea. we're live tonight i'm diana rocco for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> good idea indeed. with all of that in mind governor chris christie is warning all new jersey residents to stay off the

roads unless it isness. so the plows and salt trucks can get to work. >> we would like to make wednesday productive for everybody. the only way to make wednesday productive toys give us an opportunity to do our job on tuesday and this evening. we all feel like we know how to do this. this is a lot of snow no matter how you add it up. we will be challenged but we feel like we're prepared and ready. >> a code blue went into effect in atlantic city a few minutes ago. with the storm moving in and high snow totals predict an effort is underway to make sure everyone has a warm place to sleep there mayor says residents and visitors should all take caution. >> the warming centers are only old during the day time hours. salvation armored, all of the traditional social services will be opened as warming stations as well. >> officials will be warming as high tied approach toes stay ahead of potential

flooding, and boardwalk mayor says his city takes pride in keeping its famous board snow free. it is his first week in office but pennsylvania governor tom wolf has declared a state of emergency a ahead of this winter storm that is expect to hit hard in the eastern half of the state. >> plenty of equipment plenty of salt for what we have to do here but penndot is also ready to deploy trucks to areas of need like the lehigh valley and philadelphia area if that is necessary. >> governor wolf today activated 150 pa guard men they will be direct to affected counties. he is also drivers to stay off the road. dealing with the snowstorm of this magnitude is certainly a big under taking for any city, including the the city of philadelphia "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is live at city a's emergency operations center in spring garden david. >> reporter: chris, state of emergency kicked in right at 6:00 and in about 20 minutes behind me thinks really

epicenter for impending storm. the city's mayor michael nutter will hold a news conference. the temperature was so cold, crews hadedded to set frozen asphalt on fire to be able to patch a hole in the road. as salt crews prepared to head out, mayor michael nutter warns people to pay attention. >> please use extreme caution when driving. >> reporter: 800 people will be on the on the street to clear snow and thousands will work overnight when the majority is expect to coat philadelphia. >> i want to recommend anyone that doesn't need to travel do not travel overnight during the the heart of this storm. >> reporter: don't expect a shovel and reserve an empty parking spot. mayor nutter says parking spaces should be first come, first serve. he says past neighborhood violence is unacceptable. >> it is a parking space it is not worth a fight it shouldn't be life threatening and we should not have people doing dumb things out on the streets about a parking space.

>> reporter: city's 311 center took thousands of phone calls employees are ready to pull long shifts. this is the nerve center for non-emergency calls. the city is also offering discounts at local parking garages, like this underground one on the corner of 15th and arch. the city is offering discounts because if you park in the snow route during the snow emergency you will get towed. mayor says it is important to move your car and it could cost you money. he will hold a news conference in just a few minutes and i'll be live tweeting inside. i'm david spunt, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> we will look forward to that thanks very much. storm has left travelers stranded the airports throughout the the northeast tonight. 421 flights cans told day at philadelphia international. officials tell us as many as 622 more have been canceled for tomorrow. airlines are waving fees to change flights, and if you are willing to accommodate them. for anyone who may have a

asleep at the airport they are providing blankets pillows and cots. be sure to contact your airline directly if you want to check your flight status. so far it had has been good news on the rails, amtrak telling thaws they have seen just minimal delays. however, there are no more trains traveling north of new york effective tonight. many people traveling today chose amtrak after their flights were canceled. >> didn't realize, like it was as bad it was going to be but people started telling us wait, when are you leaving. even if we did get out now you will be stuck here for a while. >> penndot crews are bracing for a long night. "eyewitness news" cameras at penndot yard in norristown where trucks are on the move. they are loading up salt, heading out, those drivers will be putting in some long hours tonight. we just got an update from penndot moments ago. >> we have deployed 438 state and contracted trucks throughout our five county

region. in addition to this we have mobilized emergency teams from the northwestern part of the state. they are currently around and will be placed strategically throughout the area. >> penndot says if you do have have to be outside on the road allow at least six car length between you and any salt and plow trucks. is there much more ahead at 6:00 including continuing eye on the storm coverage. >> take a live look in atlantic city, a lull in the storm there but the worst is still yet to come. >> we will tell you what to expect kathy. as i analyze this radio i'm seeing band nothing to north jersey and south jersey and all this will be pulled back down toward philadelphia area suburbs especially south jersey and central new jersey where we will see heavier snow accumulate. details how much and where you live and timing coming up as "eyewitntness news" continues after this.

our eye on the storm coverage continues tonight, camden mayor dana redd says her city is preparing for the the snow, she spoke earler with "eyewitness news". >> we have over 20 trucks that are, you know, snowplows that are ready to go out and tackle the snow and camping out much like the region. >> marriedd went on to say camden began pretreating roads

last night in an effort to stay ahead of the weather. that is what they are trying to do there. >> very good idea. trying to stay ahead of the wet. our meteorologist are trying to dot same. our coverage continues right now. >> we will check with meteorologist kathy orr, is what the latest. >> right new we are watching our storm, evolve and push snow back into northern new jersey and long island and it is just the beginning here. we are watching area of low pressure form right off the dell marv a normally we will see these storms moving all the way up the eastern seaboard. not the case. thinks developing right now it will intensify and move quickly toward the north east and push back the snow, and that is what makes this storm different. we will be seeing things progress though rapidly overnight the tonight as you look closely on storm scan three. you can see some heavy band setting up in new york and long island, and, and, anticipate some of the heavier band making their way toward philadelphia. little bit later tonight heavier snow will move through the overnight.

lets look at our eyewitness weather watchers ande what they are saying. we have cold temperatures to the north already in the 20's tom is saying in le has contact temperature 23 degrees. where we anticipate the high's accumulations you can see in interior south jersey where we could be seeing a foot or more, and scotties saying in hightstown 5 degrees work light snow, all ready falling. the lets take a closer look at what we expect as far as the snow amounts. right now, we have already pick up, an inch or two, this is with our clipper. toms river 2 inches. limerick over an inch. lehighton one. smyrna one. this is our clipper a additional a accumulation really heavy with our nor'easter. that is coming in tonight. two separate events, but kind of the same system that clipper really redeveloping in the nor'easter. right now 27 in philadelphia 21 al-zawahiri even town. nineteen in the poconos. future weather has a good grip is what going on in the north and watch overnight the snow, pushing west ward.

question is how far west does that get. our models are saying yes it makes it into philadelphia but sharp cut off the two north and west. during the overnight into the early morning hours we have real heavy snow. by 8:00 a.m. it lightens up in philadelphia still we have any south jersey. by noon still expecting snow to begin to end from the southwest toward the the north east. as far as details overnight heavy snow especially in new jersey and inch an hour. some locations, more than. that visibility less than a quarter mile at time, blowing snow and of course dangerous travel, even through the delaware valley with that heavy snow. please ab aware of. that highest a accumulations in our blizzard warning area interior south jersey and eastern part of the burlington county going north east 12 to 8 inches with the less's accumulations farther away from the storm. wilmington, dover, millville three to six there. mays landing up through philadelphia, northeast philadelphia, and doylestown we expect that heavy snow to make it there. six to 12 inches. of course through the west

trenton, that is where we expect that two plus. still watching this storm track. that is a huge impact on where that western edge of heavier snow will be. western cut off can make the difference between getting 6 inches and maybe 3 inches. so keeping an eye on. that storm speed is another big factor at the this speed dozen more, it looks like it is rapidly developing. that could meaningless's accumulation come tomorrow morning. we will watch it throughout the night. overnight, snow, heavy, and, low temperature of 25 tomorrow. and, then that morning snow will taper and on the exclusive eyewitness weather seven day forecast. after this well it will be quiet at least for wednesday but guess what happens thursday? yeah, included roll in what happens? well, thursday night into friday another clipper with accumulation. not the speccing anything like this but then, snow late sunday, clearing monday. we talked about when we did the forecast best chance of
