welcome back. we have something in common both just had babies. >> that's right. my baby girl. isabella going to be one of those good girls. she turns 25 she going to be like daddy, what's a boy? that's going to be my girl. >> hardest thing about having a baby, it is not the birth, it is more about the pregnancy because as you know we had the ultrasound, 3d ultrasound. >> get one of those? >> yeah really cool. they take a picture of the baby at three months and it doesn't look like a baby. you know it looks more like a coconut on wet grass. i don't know what it looks like. but it is not the prettiest thing in the world.

now at 11:00 we have our eye on the storm. the year's first winter storm arriving in new jersey tonight where the snow is falling. a state-wide travel ban, including south jersey has just gone into effect. this is a live picture from toms river where they are feeling the brunt of the storm already

tonight. and the pennsylvania suburbs seen a lot of wind blown snow in willow grove, people and crews getting ready to deal with the roads overnight just as quickly and safely as they can. in the city of philadelphia, all public and arch did i ossein schools are lowed for tomorrow and non essential city employees are told to stay home. the city hopes to clear roads and side streets without any interference. in new york, the big apple is expected to get slapped. expected to bring things to a halt there. we're tracking the latest path and what it will mean for our morning. good evening to you, i'm jessica dean. >> and i'm chris may, more than 500 schools will be closed tomorrow all across the region. we have a complete list across the bottom of your schools. all philadelphia public and arch discern schedules will close their doors for tomorrow. we've got coverage from all

across the area. but we are going to begin in the cbs weather service with kathy orr. shes that latest information on what the storm is doing right now. >>reporter: it is evolving as we speak and there are a few players in the forecast that is causing it to change, that means in a snow totals as well. we still have those winter alerts, the winter weather advisory in effect for our suburbs and of course for philadelphia that winter storm warning. the major impact, of course in that blizzard warning area. that has not changed. the blizzard warning in effect until 6:00 p.m. tuesday. you you can see for monmouth county and also for ocean county with winds gusting 350 miles an hour. the wind a big player in this noreaster. you can see the moisture trying to pull back towards philadelphia. remember we said this was a different type of storm because we were relying on it being pull back in the city for that hefty accumulation. we have a wild card, inverted trough through central and western pa is creating some lifting air. we also have rising air with area of low pressure.

that is creating almost like a micro climate of high pressure which means dry conditions with that sinking air and it's not allowing the snow to move towards the west. until this dissipates we will really be seeing the thrust of the storm moving into the fill area and it may take a while through the overnight for that western edge to break apart. we are seeing some banding going on right now and some heavier snow along the shore and of course in that warning area. so we still think we are going to be seeing the heavier amounts in that blizzard warning airment the heaviest in the east in new jersey of course with bands of snow moving true. the heaviest snow an inch an hour in that blizzard warning area during the overnight and into new jersey as well. between 8:00 a.m. and noon tomorrow the light snow ending from the southwest toward the northeast and it will be winding up. winds gusting to 30 miles an hour in philadelphia, 31 in millville, 23 in the poconos, 25

in wildwood so the wind a big factor. overnight the storm will be intensifying, we'll he's see the heavy storm mainly in new jersey overnight and look at this huge range from the west towards the east. four to 18 inches of accumulation, depending on where you live. coming up we're going to take a look at new snow totals, this unusual setup and what it means to those numbers and then more snow in the forecast coming up in the seven day. jessica it's a very complicated forecast and we knew that no two storms are the same, but this one i've never seen quite before. this is an experience for us, but we're keeping an eye on it for you. > all right kathy, thank you. we'll see you in just a little bit. keep your eye on this and any winter storm by downloading the cbs philly weather app you can get live radar and track the snowstorm as it moves through the area. it's free and is available on google i tuns. > people who live in h central and north jersey are seeing this

storm come in a big way. we have reporters in ocean county and mercer county two areas expecting some of the most snow in our area. we will begin with diana rocco who is in toms river which is under a lizard warning tonight. diana? that's right chris just in the last hour we really felt this snowfall start to pick up and the wind has really started whipping here. we're live along route 37. we're starting to see some accumulation. governor chris christie has issued a travel ban for the entire state of new jersey that went into effect 11:00 this evening and it seems many are heeding that warning tonight and staying home. it's been snowing for hours but what everyone is waiting for is the second half of this one, two, punch still on its way and sure to be the most powerful yet. >> i just don't know what to believe, the 18 inches or 30 sentence know. the blizzard of 2015 will hit toms river with high winds and

heavy snowfall expected through the overnight. preparation are are underway all day, am already out shoveling walkways and driveways gas stations busy fueling cars and gassing up snow blowers and generators. i'm bringing this back to the house in case the power does go out. we had the issue with sandy. we're breaking it out now. restaurants and stores closed early. scars were scare but plow teams were assembling ready for what's sure to be a very long night. we're look ago the 35, 40 hours. after sandy ocean county homeowners aren't taking any chans. many already planning a day at home tuesday. i'm going to call in take an emergency day tomorrow and i'm going to buy firewood. i love the snow. be safe. just don't drive. > and a lot of people heeding

that advice tonight. as you can see, the snow is starting to accumulate here on route 37. we are expecting blizzard-like conditions throughout the overnight hours. so far the blow drivers have been doing a really good job keeping up with the accumulation that we've seen throughout the day today. i did just speak with the sheriff of ocean county. he says there are no major problems to report at this time, but they are keeping a very close eye on this than would. they are starting to see the winds peck up along the water. we're live in toms river tonight. i'm diana rocco. diana thanks. we continue our team coverage now in mercer county. todd coone owns in hamilton p t. chris, residents here for the most part tonight have been playing the waiting game. for the most part we've experienced light flurries the heaviest stuff expected to come overnight, but already this storm is having an impact. >> barnes & noble had a sign out front saying the store will open

late, if at all on tuesday. truck driver mosts saturday idle with new england getting hard his hall postponed. i guess i'm going to sit right here. > you're just going to wait it out. >> yeah. > new jersey transit service halted only when weather permits trains and buses will resume. we caught up with riders on one of the last buses still operating before the transit system shutdown at 8. shannon wilson depends on the get to work. >> what are you going to do tomorrow? >> stay? n. > the store comes with the activation of the new jersey state operations center, the state police wants drivers to stay off roads even after the heaviest snows arriving overnight stop. with the high winds that are being predicted by the national weather service we're looking at possible drift conditions, so what we see oftentimes is that those roadways that were just cleared by the department of transportation it drifts back over and creates a hazardous conditions.

we'll be here all night and until the storm stops and then some. > and rick delorenzo owe of yardville was stocking up at salt. he owns a house and a restaurant to worry about the storm. i don't really see anything now. it's been snowing like this all day. i'm expected to wake up tomorrow and see about a foot of snow. > but again as of right now the roads here in this part of new jersey are very clear but that will likely change in just a matter of hours. reporting live tonight in hamilton township, mercer county, new jersey todd quinones cbs news. thank you. many septa bus lines are being rerouted or suspended because of the snow. the broad street line and the frankfurt line will operate every 20 minutes. meanwhile septa regional rail will operate on a saturday schedule. they are advising people to check the agencies' website for the most up-to-date information.

the immediate area are still expecting snow overnight and snowfall is expected to pick up as we go into the overnight. that's led to some cancellations. our team coverage continues now with natasha brown and david spun. we'll start with david who has new information in spring garden. >> jessica mayor michael nutter said the decision to close city offices and schools tomorrow was a very easy one. that is what he is predicting to see some snow overnight and into the morning. no matter what happens philadelphia will be ready. we are still anticipating the very heavy activity from about midnight through 7:00 a.m. mayor michael nutter says the city of philadelphia is ready to handle whatever weather comes our way. be safe, the morning drive will certainly be challenging. if you don't need to be out in the morning certainly do your best to stay in. the mayor spoke to reporters just after 10 this evening from the emergency operations center on spring garden street.

nutter also told residents to move cars that are parked on a snow rohte. we found several illegally parked on broad street. the city is offered discounted parking at several garages including this underground one at 15th and arch the most consistent snow hit center city just after 7:00 can tonight. it looks like it's going to be a lot of snow. i'm very excited. only concern is to be safe tomorrow. one neighbor tells i with its she's concerned that the late january snow could mean a troubling trend for the rest of the winter. >> i think this winter is going to be way worse than last winter. >> that's a bold prediction. > many hope that prediction is wrong. mayor nutter says that trash pickup will not happen tomorrow, tuesday. trash pickup will happen next week and if you leave your pets outside there's a new city ordinance that says you could pay up to $500. so get those pets inside. we are live in spring garden. david, thank you. let's go now to i wit natashia

brownness news reporter in a tasha brown who is live in levittown. you've driven around montgomery and bucks county tonight. what all have you seen? >>reporter: this is kind of what we're seeing. we can see you this road through levittown. it beat and certainly clear. we have been speaking a lot of drivers that have ventured out tonight and they tell us save. no travel traveling along oxford valley road in levittown. it's one of the main thoroughfares through town. driving on some of the side streets could pause a problem. rob miller darted out for a few last minute groceries. i'm from over in jersey, i'm working tonight and i came out to grab some groceries before i come home. where i work at princeton university it's already closed tonight. we found laura embracing the latest snowstorm after moving back from florida.

i moved to naples nine years ago, relocating last year and wish i was back there. penn dot are working tirelessly to keep 11,000 miles of state highways clear. >> what has us concerned is the high winds expected with these events. high winds can cause severe drifting whiteout conditions which could make travel hazardous. a steady load of trucks reloaded. we have mobilized some emergency teams from the northwestern part of our state. they're currently inen route. we placed strategically throughout the area so they can be staged and called out as needed. late tonight camden county announced it is closing its county offices tomorrow. while next door in burlington county it is starting to get blustery tonight, storm scan 3 taking us to burlington county

where meteorologist kate bilo is on the road. she's in pemberton now. kate, how is it looking there? >>reporter: chris it's been pretty quiet out here i got to tell your for the past couple of hours. it's a light fluffy snow. you you can see what has already fallen here tonight about an inch or snow. again, that really light fluffy texture. as we were driving around we were noticing some blowing and some reduced visibility as the winds pick up. i also want to direct your attention to the flag here. let's take a look at this. tom is going to pan over and you can see that flag is really standing at attention. the winds are gusting in pemberton and the winds will pick up through new jersey through the rest of tonight. we're looking at temperatures generally only in the upper 20s. we're at 27.5 degrees, just reported a wind gust of 8 and a half miles per house, so the winds are getting a little bit stronger out here right now. i do want to show you the radar currently. kathy mentioned how the snow is

fistulaing when it hits the new jersey coast. see that band notice how it is starting to pivot to the west. it's heading for the jersey coastline. the question is how far do any of those bands get inland? we'll have to watch overnight, but it looks like this is going to be more of an eastern storm across new jersey and up into southern new england which is what it was going to be all along. checking in quickly with our eye with it in weather watches you can see we're looking at temperatures generally all across the region. i'm going to pull up a list and show you what we're looking at as far as snowfall amounts. our weather watcher tony chip let i reporting about an inch and a half in delaware. 2.3 inches of rain. cheat nut hill 2 inches of snow in chess hut hill right now. modest amounts about an inch to two inches. we'll watch the bands as we head
