but some of are you still going to find some real good snow out of this. what happened, at least meteorology speak inverted trough set up. looks like a ridge, in other words, looks like little hill as opposed to little dip. so, what happened was this air subsided, or sank, allowed for slower development of any snow over our area. and also a slower development of the storm itself t took a while to really get going. now, there are still winter weather advisories posted for choice couple of locations here, philadelphia county now taken out of the zone, and out toward ocean county, the blizzard warning has since downgraded to a winter storm warning. same thing for monmouth county. but here is your snowfall map. it has been updated. do still expect some snow. is the crazy six-12 inches for philadelphia? absolutely not. but we do still expect that you'll have maybe some modest problems as you travel out and about today. again it is a sharp cut off. the further east you go, even county or two over it, could be completely different ballgame. so, that said, we want to get you coverage around the

4:35 am
lot of time getting ready for this and all the people getting ready for us to be able to get out on the roads. instead, dry slot did all of the work for all of these people as we back up here in this parking lot. and let you just see some of the manpower from private contractors ready to go on this storm when the storm was not ready to go for us. so they just sit here and they wait for the state to give them a phonecall. that's thousand looks here in hammonton. and we will turn the light on and head back to you vittoria. >> thank you so much carol. we need to see your beautiful face. hey, pretty's out there you're beautiful face, if you are watching us right now you're probably as everyone is saying okay, maybe expected a little something different this morning. but this is a good thing. traffic wise, however, in regard to mass transit not so much of a great thing today. but we'll talk about. that will let's talk about your roads. 422 this is if you're traveling around the area of oaks notice a lot of snow on the grass here. if you are traveling on the actual roadway just looks wet.

4:40 am
program. have things like pillows blankets, bottled water personal hygiene kits, things like that, available to passengers who are staying the night. they also have sleeping zones which we saw in passing coming to this terminal. so, the folks are being cared for at least overnight here at philadelphia international airport. hopefully some of the normal operation also resume today given that we're not dealing with as much snow as we anticipated. certainly getting the updates for you as we hear them this morning, meantime, your best bet, as always, 1800-phl-gate or go to phl.org the twitter phl airport. of course at at cbs philly also has you covered. ukee err cape, as i send it back to you, a lot of people calling this a bus. i call it best case scenario, because the people who wanted off, want add snow day they got t and the people who have to work in the snow, well, they're not dealing with much of it. so hopefully this shapes up pretty well for everybody.

4:47 am
into gear monday evening bagging it self over the east coast, feeding it self off the ocean. >> here you can see the spin, look at the tail there is moisture plume goes all the way down to basically cuba. there is nothing but a lot of available moisture here. >> that moisture means snow. forecasters predict up to 3 feet in some areas. six states have declared states of emergency. in massachusetts connecticut parts of new york, it is actually illegal to be out on the roads. >> this is a serious situation. if you violate this state order it is a possible misdemeanor. it is fines up to $300. >> new york sit boston, and new jersey suspended travel on all subways buses trains, our lines canceled nearly 8,000 flights massachusetts called up its national guard as thunder snow is reported near cape cod. a big worry still hurricane force wind gusts reaching speeds over 75 miles an hour. >> if you lose power during
4:48 am
the storm because of high winds, you might be without power for a period of 24 to 48 hours. >> the blizzard warning will remain in effect until wednesday. and so far power outages have not been a huge problem here the national weather service telling us more than 17 inches of snow has fallen on long island so far still coming down at rate between one and 2 inches an hour. and we expect that to continue for several more hours. ukee erika? >> chris, thanks so much, man be safer up there. >> boy, just missed us, i'm telling you. still ahead on "eyewitness news" this morning, much of new york silt ski shutdown. but the stock market is not. >> we'll have live report from wall street when we come right

4:52 am
4:54 am
had little sneaky dry air move in. >> that's what happened, so while the storm turned into monster nor'easter, ended up being more after dud for our area. simply because look you can see it on the radar even right now, even on the satelite where over the last few hours there was the hole that set up here, where there just wasn't any moisture, falling to the ground, as snow, and it was just because there was essentially just dry air that made it which in and allowed for more e van agents as the snow tried to drop n that's where that came from. and we continue to see some pretty decent snow through the garden state. we are still expecting pretty good totals, atlantic, burlington mercer, through north central new jersey and look at the gradient. you just go one county over, in ocean county, and you've got the possibility of up to a foot. so not that we're not seeing a significant storm out of this, it is just the back edge of it really, ended up bringing out its wild-card in the poker game basically here. so two-4 inches isn't without
4:55 am
question by the time all said and done for all of the light shaded blue area. but, yes, it is obviously not going to end up being the bigger heavier snowfall totals that we had originally anticipated. sometimes, mother nature can just throw those again wild cards at youment looking forward in our forecast, as we jump it into thursday, specifically, thursday night we see another system moving in. that's going to bring more light snow to our area. i'm thinking one 2-inch swat nothing major enough to snarl travel. >> well, just deal with that when it comes. won't we? >> something to look, well, not really, something to look forward to. anyway let's get outside shall we? because what you can look forward to this morning is it was a pretty light storm that we've had here, so if you do have to head to work today, it is definitely good news for you, because the roads are travel recall, if that's even a word? but anyway, moving to the schuylkill expressway, we take a look at 76, this camera shot
4:56 am
sort of cool here. still see light flurries in this area. but you are still going to notice wet roadways. those roadways are slick. and it is not just only pa, it is in jersey, as well. take a look at the 42 freeway as would you expect, traveling on the ben franklin bridge, walt whitman bridge, betsy ross down to speed restrictions of 35 miles per hour, so just take it easy out there. septa bus routes still many of them are still on detour, so ♪. that will our regional rail lines are operating on a saturday schedule, the cynwyd line suspended jersey transit suspended, patco on modified schedule, dart expect delays. >> coming up in the next hour of "eyewitness news", the latest on the snow that could still snarl this morning's commute. >> also, chaos in the city council meeting when two police officers are shot. see the frightening moment, as everyone ducks for cover. and a pilot pulls off dramatic landing in the ocean thanks to a huge parachute. now, we're hearing from the pilot about his rescue at sea. we're back at the top of the hour.
4:59 am
>> it wasn't the huge snowstorm we expected but the snow falling this morning here in bucks county, and storm scan3 shows we could still see some snow as you get ready to head out the door this morning. >> now totally nothing compared to what's happening further up the east coast. look at this, new york, boston, just getting slammed by snow. we're there live, in one of the areas hit hardest by this potentially historic blizzard. >> it is tuesday january 27th, high good morning, i'm ukee washington. >> i'm erika von tiehl. the latest right now on the storm, new jersey, is still under a state of emergency and there is also a travel ban on roads across the state. >> and philadelphia public and archdioces schools are closed today, along with more than 500 other schools. the full list is at the bottom of the screen, and of course, at cbsphilly.com. many septa bustlines are
5:00 am
suspended or rye-routed and regional rail is running on a saturday schedule. >> we have a team of reporters keeping an eye on the conditions out there for this morning. we'll check in with them coming up in just one minute. first though, we want to get right to katie for the latest on the snow, hey less to shovel this morning. that's how i am looking at that time. >> absolutely, you know, real good way to look at it, just because, you know, the kids are still getting a snow day and we don't have as much to clean up. but yes we did in fact, bus at least on the big snow for philadelphia, and there is a very good reason for it. jigs the last three hour loop, see the slot of dry air that managed to wedge its way in, so while most of the garden state just completely encompassed with snow falling even as we speak ended up with nice dry window, down the western suburbs, southwestern new jersey, even so what that allowed for was obviously a lot less time for us to pick
