of road crew guys. >> snapping selfies at the we early hours of the morning. >> it is on my facebook page, ed tom thanks so much, and all of the crews around the tri-state area. >> a loft us waking up looking out the window wondering how much snow will we see? >> i'm calling it a wild-card that mother night your decided to pull it out in the poker game the dry shout of air that ended upset link in over real big portion of the delaware valley, what i want to do take you back in time in a second here. we start things offer with just live look right now how things are looking over center city philadelphia. as we take you out on "skycam 3" and really, yes you still got some problems out there, but we were talking yesterday six to 12 inches every snow, what the heck happened? to storm scam three i'll show you what happened, unfortunately hard to forecast. >> this back in time here guys six 7:00 p.m. or so, look at how things start to
5:31 am
fizzle away. it wasn't the storm necessarily fizz link, rather a slot of dry air, you can see some breaks in the clouds, over chester county, and what that ended up doing was allowing any snow in a would try to fall, to evaporate. so you see how the western edge of the storm just stayed over new jersey. now, that said, what are we left with at this point? it is still a big storm system. it just ended up almost just hopping over our area, and deciding oh, i don't really think you guys need that much snow, so i'll move onto southeastern new england, so still specking some snow, just not the crazy totals we had initially anticipated over philadelphia. so, that's the essential meteorological definition whatever ended upgoing on here. and inverted trough, drier air, subsiding air allowing for the air to sing, in other words, and create drier conditions at the surface and also that storm took its sweet old time developing into what it is now. winter weather alerts are still in effect, however notice it is generally the northeast half of our area, under winter storm warnings, hands full of spots winter

weather advisories, but philadelphia county now out of that zone. it doesn't mean it is perfect though, it is not a picnic as you take the drive to school or work, depending on whether you even have either to go to today. visibilities remain a little reduced out there really quick check though on the most to up date snowfall map, it is still snowing and we do expect to find maybe two-4 inches max over philadelphia after it is all said and done. we want a check on how it looks out on the roads, so we check in with meteorologist carol erickson live yet again in the cbs-3 mobile weather lab, hi, carol. >> katie, how are you? we are watching and we are behind a plow train we're on the white horse pike right now. and this is? galloway township egg harbor city. you can see that if you look very closely you may be able to pick up some of the sparks. they're so close to the pavement that the plows are picking up the sparks, creating the sparks. probably also see that you
5:33 am
cannot tell one lane from another, there is snow packed on this road and four plow trains ahead of us trying do something with this, with the temperatures outside the mobile weather lab at 24 degrees, everything freezing solid. the plows are out here. they don't have a lot to work with in terms of snow coming down. we've seen some snow coming down fairly lightly. they're out here anyhow trying to get this road looking a little bit better. i think if we get some sunshine today. that will help, as well. some of the salt, that we were talking about how the salt came up from venezuela by way of mexico, by way of the bristol bridge area. these contractors pick all of that up. the plows also work. that's what they're trying to do, scrape this down, get some salt on this. not a l but as we know, you can slip on an ice cube, outside of your frig in your kitchen. so the last thing you want to be going about 50 miles an hour or moran be leading -- sliding on a reached they'll be sure that is not happening here as we're in atlantic county, one of the last

counties that we still have got some watches and some warnings, there is the light i keep forget that because i can't see when it is on out the window, one the last counties that we're watching with this, and heading to the north, eventually, where there had been a blizzard warnings, and now there is not. as this weather system pulls away and really, fortunately leaves us without having too much to clean up to do. how are these roads vittoria? >> you know what, carol generally speaking, we're doing pretty good out there. but you bring up a good point. really good analogy when she said you can slip on an ice cube outside of your frig, because that's the truth. i think a lot of people approach a traffic situation like this, where maybe the weather didn't turn out the way we thought that it is going to be easier on the roads, that's really not the case all the time. we head outside, take a look at the schuylkill. this is 76 right around 476. you will notice still traveling on our majors, everywhere, it will be slick and it will be wet. so, do you want to approach any roadway with extra caution, because this is still

5:36 am
trenton, not very much travel going on right now we ceo casually few vehicles. we do see few plows that aren't actually plowing the streets, but going to different parking lots throughout this area. we're at the quick check on 206, actually, right here in hamilton township. and every once in a while somebody pops in to get some coffee, and they have to go somewhere. we actually came across a team of newspaper delivery. we have a boyfriends and girlfriend, this is troy and behind him is arlene. what's it like driving around this morning trying to deliver paper? >> pretty slippery. if i didn't have to be out i wouldn't. my advice to everyone is to stay home if you absolutely don't have to be out here. it can be deceiving, how you might be able to see some of the road, but it is still very, very treacherous. >> how tough was it to get out of bed this morning and go out in these elements? >> you must be reading my mind. because while i was in bed this morning i was thinking of every way not to go out.

5:43 am
morning. that snow emergency good ideal, the blacktop that was showing, with all of the salt on the roads now complily covered, all of the snow being churned up by cars tires and seeing a lot of slush. the intersection of new falls road, edgley road, from bucks county, the snow picking up now, and as you mentioned erika, the wind really going so a loft drive g and blowing snow, as well, little bit hard because of the winds to get an idea about the accumulation on the gown. but definitely, more than an inch right now but you know what? some people as they wake up are a little bit disappointed that we're not seeing even more snow. take a listen. >> i got a little daughter, two years old and she is casino of had me looking forward to it, want to go builds olaf, wants to build a snowman, keeps calling it olaf. me, i like the snow, been looking forward it, i'm hoping we get a loft snow, but you know then again kind of not because i got to drive in it.
5:44 am
>> i found a couple people really anticipating the snow. but i think she can get out here and make a mall snowman. you can see the snow is piling up salt trucks, we've seen a the love them, trying to keep up at this point. and we will continue to keep you to up date on the conditions out here. for now live in levittown. jan carabeo, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> snowball size olaf, there go. >> little fellow. >> right now just past 5:43, we want to check in with katie and the weather watcher. >> the question is do you want to build a snowman? >> i'll always build a snowman with you katie i'm your girl. >> you two need to let it go. >> common! >> i know, i know, all right let's move on. we start things off at the observations sent in, over the last 20 minute really, 27 degrees her temperature in trenton, does have some light
5:45 am
snow falling right now sends in couple of pictures for us, too, pretty picturesque scenes out in her yard, windy snowy fine amounts she said, not too significant for her in trenton. but very pretty, as this all just blanket in the that white. so, nice to look at for sure. i do want to take you out to the snowfall list. some of the amounts that have been coming in from you the viewers, charles 2.1 inches in bath, so far upper darby bill an inch, almost 3 inches in riverside, new jersey, sent in from ron. barbara willow grove over an inch the list goes on, fred in nottingham, an inch and a half. have seen some totals of snow out in the western suburbs it isn't as much as we expected, no. there is very good reason for it, that was just really hard to pinpoint. let's go ahead take you out there to specifically storm scan3, we will to go he will on over, take a look. so you can actually see in the last three hour loop, even still, that drier air. so there was little bit of snow that's been falling in that time. but it wasn't a heck of a l so our window of opportunity, to
5:46 am
see the heavier snows started to close, just because we had that lull. and then we also just couldn't see the heavy snow, something down because of drier air hoping evaporate it. so it is almost like the winter alerts that we have here. point out where that dry slot ended up coming in. now you still have winter storm warnings, blizzard warnings, going further north and east, and at this point for our area it is just few lesser winter weather advisories and warnings, but it doesn't mean you're not going to see that snow. in decent totals here, all the way up to foot still very possible for ocean county out to portions of monmouth. slow will be heavier snow, but you have to go east to find it. vittoria? >> thank you so much katie. good morning everyone, so, if you are traveling out and about on the roadways, right now, again volume won't be a problem, even as we approach 6:00. i doubt we'll even see rush hour, i am seeing few more vehicles on the 42 freeway. the thing with new jersey traveling in new jersey new york and connecticut they're still un travel ban. so definitely not good idea to be commuting right now but this is a live look at the 42.
5:47 am
it does look to be few vehicles on the northbound side of 42. we continue and take you to the pa turnpike eastbound on the pa turnpike approaching lancaster, do have vehicle fire out there. in weather like this, the roads definitely accident prone. people under estimate, even though they can't see the snow, not that bad. still very slick out there. in regard to mass transit septa regional rail lines still operating on saturday schedule. cynwyd line suspended, in regards to septa buses you will see many delays there suspension for new jersey transit, the patco line running on modified schedule, and dart anticipate delays as well. over 850 flights were canceled, so make sure that you check your flight schedules for even more concellations today. but don't forget when you're on the road you can get updated information about traffic back up with the your drive app. download it for the iphone and android by going to cbsphilly.com/your drive.

6:00 am
worked its way over the delaware val that i ended up meaning that we would lose our window of opportunity to see the heavy snowfall t loud for what we call the sly slot in the atmosphere to your nerve dry air so any snow that would try to fall, you see that setting up here locally go ahead zoom it in, that would limit it. it would make any snowfall just simply evaporate as it would tall to the ground. that's you why may not find as much further inland. in fact, you won't finds as much. definitely still some very significant snow falling. winter weather advisories, they don't include philadelphia, any more, but up to ocean monmouth counties what was a blizzard warning is now reduced to winter storm warning. not done with the storm but as not big of snowfall total. definitely snowy scene
