>> we're wondering what happened with this storm. >> easy explanation that was incredibly difficult to forecast. when you see it out there on storm scan3, kind of obvious. looking at the storm essentially in its entirety, do you see the sliver every basically just empty space between the back edge of the storm and over our area? specially earlier this morning, and through the overnight, we saw that taking shape. vie slot of air. allowed any snow to evaporate that tried to hit the grounds and it would limit our snowfall totals as a result. how things will time out for the rest of the day from now up until noon, it is really just left over band of light
6:23 am
to maybe moderate snow. specially through new jersey, blustery for everyone, but even more so the closer to the coast you get the storm will be departing through mid-day so that means the snow will taper for everyone, essentially west to east, then skies are just clearing, temperatures have chance to plummet as a result. speaking of temps currently below freezing across the board, mid 20's, generally where we are finding the values on the thermometer but as the day goes on, we expect to you maybe get to about 30, that will be the best we can hope for. meanwhile there will be some clean to up do, just not as much for philadelphia. two-4 inches still our expectation by the time is all said and done. and then, by thursday night yet another round of light snow is on the way for us. vittoria? >> thank you so much. katie, good morning everyone, if you are traveling anywhere this morning, do you just want to make sure that you approach any roadway with little extra caution, even if it doesn't look that bad. because it is still slippery, and slick and this is definitely traffic patterns where incidents happen. or traffic situations, rather, when incidents happen. so, taking a look here at 202

talk about hit or miss obviously the storm gave us glancing blow, looking out the door, not as bad as it could be deteriorating conditions out there. as flake fall boston and new york are getting slammed not measure snow in inches, they're measuring in feet. what we're talking about this morning, first what happened. but also, roads are still

slick out there. you do need to be careful. >> absolutely. >> this is not a foot of snow. doesn't mean you're off scott-free. >> key pending where you are you might get a foot of snow within the delaware valley confinement. so, you know, it is essentially the glancing blow, but still getting hit by it. >> so we do want to take you back in time. actually we go to another zoom here. and go back to a 12-hour loop. so what i'm going do is back up the radar. so we're all the way back now guys, to yesterday evening. notice what takes place over the center of the radar there. you see how things tonightly diminish? that would lead to you think that the storm track was just maybe just too far east, right? but notice, you see the breaks that take place in the clouds along the way, it is actually dry air coming in. so it allowed for evaporation of any snow that would try to actually stick to the surface to evaporate in mid-air. and on top of it all it, meant we lose our window of opportunity for that snow to stop for long enough time to dump very much. so it is not like we're not going to see anything.
6:31 am
this isn't complete miss. you do still have winter storm warnings in effect for choice couple every counties here, ocean, monmouth, mercer, then winter weather advisory, including philadelphia county. i misspoke earlier in the show. we do still have that for philadelphia county until noon today. and couple of other counties, too, but see the sliver where there is nothing. because you just ended up with too long after lull essentially for it to be more than what you'll find out there. this is our updated and most, you know, to up date issue snowfall map from the eyewitness weather team. we're expecting two-4 inches in grand total. once the storm completely pulls away by midday. four-8 inches, only have to go county or two over into new jersey, and you may find up to 8 inches. potentially still as much as a foot through portions of ocean, monmouth counties. so it is an incredibly sharp contrast depending on your location but bear in mind that just because you don't see a ton to shovel out there that it is not hazardous, so i know vittoria will be talking
6:32 am
about that. as the day progresses talking low 30's at best, certainly still breezy out there too to blow the snow around. that will wind will hang on at least tomorrow's storm makes its full retreat. want we want to see how things are look being we send things out for live look at the ground to meteorologist carol erickson, live with us from the cbs-3 mobile weather lab on the garden state parkway. little closer to the main action carol? >> yes, headed north on the garden state parkway now came down route 30, also called the white horse pike in absecon and moving on up, following a truck that's salting the ground, because the temperature outside the webber hat lab right now 23 degrees, and we've got windchills even lower than. that will but at the 23 degrees temperature the light snow that we could see continuing to fall is very likely to stick. that's why the salt trucks are still out doing their thing not a lot to plow. and we've seen long cloud
6:33 am
trains but so little for them to plow, that sparks were coming up versus any kind of piles of snow. which is great news for people who have to get out who don't have a snow plow to do their drivewayment and they have to do it by hand. not much to shovel today. but it can get very icy because stuff is still coming down temperatures are below the freezing mark, and that's why they're being specially careful as we go along this garden state parkway. now, this was an area when we get into ocean count that i was un the blizzard warning. but that blizzard warning was taken down about an hour ago through here, and now we are seeing the winter storm warning which will also be expiring little later on. lots going on out here, this morning, but not merely as much as it could have been, and that's certainly the best news of all. let's head into vittoria and the rest of these roads. >> thank you so much, carol. good morning everyone. carol bridges up very good point. even though not seeing too much whatever looks to be a problem on the road it, doesn't mean that you don't
6:34 am
still have a problem. it is still very slick outside. we just suggest that you take extra caution. it is a good thing that a lot of folks stayed home today. one, because who doesn't like a snow day two because you still, the roads are still dangerous, and in instances like this, where we're not seeing actual snow on the ground, some people approach the situation like it is not dangerous, because they can't see the snow, but it is, so take it easy out there. but if you are commuting right now the schuylkill expressway just fine. no volume. i doubt we'll see rush hour at all if any. not only in pa but jersey, and delaware, keep in mind if you are traveling in new jersey as well as new york and connecticut, actually cannot. still travel ban in effect. we'll let you know if it does lift. traveling in newtown, we have an accident situation at bryn mawr avenue, west chester pike downed pole, caused from the incident. let's talk about mass transit. that's really the big story herement as we gave you a checklist of sorts septa buses, you're going see a loft delays there. new jersey transit suspended across the board patco running on modified schedule.
