>> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". right now at 11:00 o'clock people are rush out a popular clothing store in center city philadelphia after the roof came crashing down. we're learning new information about just what happened today. the story still developing as we come on the air. good evening i'm chris may. many i'm jessica dean.

building inspectors are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. >> let's take look at this google street street which shows us the lulu lemon store at 5712 wall net street. bricks from the top of this building fell on to the top of this roof and those caused the problem. >> force of those bricks as you can see in this picture put holes in the roof of the store. as we said, put people in the hospital. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is live tonight with new developments in this story. david? >> reporter: chris, three women went to the hospital with minor injuries. i was in touch with the l andism commissioner tonight. his crews will be out here on site early tomorrow morning. moon while on top of the roof where this all happened, the building investigators and construction workers were up there to try to stabilize the building to make sure no more bricks fall down. orange warning sign greets people walking by the lulu lemon store on walnut street in center city. three women left on stretchers

tuesday afternoon after bricks from the building next door collapsed on to lulu lemon's roof. the damage inside is extensive. >> it was huge. it shook. it shook. it was intense. very intense. >> reporter: christine was inside shopping. when chaos erupted just a few feet away. >> the dust you couldn't see. the dust was so intense i can't breathe. >> reporter: an attorney in the next building took this picture of the partial roof collapse. "eyewitness news" combed through inspection records and the owner of the building next to lulu lemon has no violations listed. earlier this evening, we caught up with the family of one of the injured women as they left the hospital. >> lucky she's here. >> reporter: l andism crews spent most of the night inside the building next to lulu lemon. louis work on the sixth floor. >> really loud crash that shook my desk. >> reporter: he tells "eyewitness news", he began leasing inside the building about three years ago. >> i never had any problem with

this building. the landlord is great. our space is wonderful. >> reporter: the l andism commissioner says the owners of both buildings have been extreme extremely cooperative. the investigation continues tomorrow. no word on when lulu lemon will reopen. right now, it is closed. it is deemed unsafe by l and i reporting in center city tonight, david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> david thank you. new tonight chilling video captures a store clerk's brush with death during a robbery. that clerk came face to face with a large assault style weapon and tonight oy witness news speaks to the employee who stared down the barrel of that gun. charlotte huffman has our story. >> reporter: the frightening situation inside a food store on west clearfield street in north philadelphia thursday night started when two men wearing masks one of them armed with an ar15 style rival charged in and demanded money. that's when store owner mario suddenly found himself looking down the barrel of a gun.

>> i was sitting behind the counter. he pointed the gun my face. where is the money? the money is right there. give it to me. the money is right there. i open the cash register. he told me don't move or i shoot you. >> the men took five hadn't doctored dollars and ran. now police are releasing this surveillance video in hopes of finding the two men responsible. both described as 20-year-old black males one of them about 5-foot 11 wearing a black ski mask orange hooded sweat short black jacket and tan pants. the other 6-foot, wearing a black ski mask and dark clothe clothing. no one was injured and the man says he's lucky to be alive. >> yeah, i am. my second time it got robbed. one who are, one jersey. yeah. i'm lucky. >> reporter: he believes he has more than just luck on his side. >> if you believe in god, you going to be safe. we pray. a lot. like we pray every day. >> reporter: police are hoping that somebody knows something and will come forward because after all the robbery didn't happen that late at night and

the men were just walking down the street with an assault rifle. i'm charlotte huffman cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> take look at this surveillance video. a suspect with a white mask and a gun burst noose a dunkin' donuts on front street in philadelphia yesterday and tries to rob the store. but just seconds later he was taken down by police. those officers were there because of some armed robberies in that area. take a look at the suspect who was arrested 20-year-old russell mason what's. police say he also robbed a family dollar store earlier this month. much of new england is still getting hammered tonight by a nor'easter that moved through our he and left a little less snow than expected. toms river, ocean county, was one of the area that is did see some bigger snow totals in the region. residents there spent the day cleaning off cars and shoveling out. there was enough snow to get the snow blowers out in if a fact as they cleaned off sidewalks and driveways. most of ocean county saw between five and 10-inches of the white

stuff. snowfall also down the shore bringing out the shovels about 2-inches of snowfalling on long beach island. in atlantic city meantime they breathe add big sigh of relief. they had more than 101st responders on stand by there to ham the snow and any emergencies that cropped up. after more than 800 flights were canceled due to weather airport will resume regular flight operations tomorrow. but airport officials in philadelphia advise travelers to check with their airlines and arrive early. to expect longer lines at check in and security as airlines try to com date all those affected by the cancellations. in new york tonight they're getting back to normal after a day of digging out. about six to eight. s fell across the city. subways and other public transportation once again rolling this morning. some even took time out for a little bit of sledding in central park. here's time lapsed video from boston where the storm really came on with a lot of

power. more than 2 feet of snow fell there and it's continued throughout the day. that puts this storm among the snowiest of all time for the city of boston. some areas there we said still getting snow tonight. this is video from plum island massachusetts. that's north of the city of boston. not far from the new hampshire border. snow still flying there in all directions tonight. so quite a storm for new england. we felt a little bit of it's wrath now kathy we're dealing with the beginnings of a bitter blast and the win also picking up, too. >> the cold, the wind and also icy spots out there tonight. please be aware of that. but right now it is the clear skies, the windy conditions and the cold that we're talking about. so here we go again with the bitter cold temperatures. right now 23 in the city. it's 18 in al license up to and reading. eight in the poconos but the wind is picking up out of the northwest and the back side of this storm between 10 and 20 miles an hour. sustain at 20 in philadelphia. and that will drive wind chills well down into the single

numbers during the overnight and even tomorrow morning. when you wake up, 7:00 a.m. the temperature soon but the wind chill only eight. a slight improvement by 9am and by 11:00 you're still talking about a temperature of 25. the wind chill still sitting in the teens. coming up we'll tack about how long this wind chilling affect will impact us and talk about another clipper this one just a typical clipper that will be moving through and a first look at that weekend forecast. that's coming up with the seven day in just a little bit. for now jess we'll zen it back to you. >> all right, kathy, thank you. on duty sex investigation rocks the philadelphia fire department. sources say a dozen mail fire department personnel are suspected of having sex with a female member. the alleged sexual acts happened in firehouses and at least one vehicle. and they're now being investigated by the philadelphia inspector general's office. police investigators found no grounds for criminal charges. sources say the final decision by fire officials on disciplinary action will be guided by a new discipline code recently knacked. sources say there are also may

be new policies on firehouse fraternization and additional sensitivity training. new at 11:00 o'clock tonight footprints in the snow lead to arrests in a bold burglary spree. police believe that they have caught the bonnie and clyde of delaware county. tonight family targeted by the suss specced bandits is talking only to "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones. >> it was completely terrifying and pretty heartbreaking report roar this woman's mom woke up to a man in her room in the middle of the night. >> she thought it was my husband looking for something and she said something like is everything okay? he said, john is in here. >> reporter: her mom was groggy and wasn't thinking clearly she went back to sleep. even though there's no john that lives in the drexel hill home. john it turn out according to upper darby police was steven police contend he and his girlfriend kelly wilkinson went on a burglary spree that lasted at least a week stealing purses, cell phones and jewelry among other items but came to crashing

halt due to these footprints in the snow outside victim's homes. >> whoever was walking and wearing those sneakers had gone to at least 13 different locations either the front door or back door. plane clothes officers on the look out for suspects used the footprints to track down the man at 5:00 o'clock saturday morning. >> when he saw the officers he dropped the red bag. the officers subsequently look in the bag and there were cell phones and change. >> officers continued to follow the footprints when they say led to a get away car with wilkinson inside. police he can cute add search warrant inside her parent's springfield home where the 25-year-old lives. >> we find materials handbags, cell phones that were stolen in our burglaries. >> reporter: the burg roose in around falls and huey avenue may be connected to others in neighboring towns as well. police roughed other handbags belonging to unidentified victims. some victims left their doors unlock. in drexel hill the burglar came

in through the front door which had an old lock has since been replaced. >> he went all the way through the downstairs of the house. >> he's locked up on 13 counts of burglary in the meantime wilkinson is out on bail. she's being chargeed with receiving stolen property and other related charges. in upper darby todd quinones cbs3 ooh were the news. >> long time city councilman is joining the race for mayor. jim kenny will resign from council and thursday and run for the democratic nomination. he must give up his job to seek another public office. kenny has been lecked citywide six times and he says that gives him credibility. >> i've been able to work at every neighborhood in the city and i think that folks understand that -- how my heart feels, what i feel and what -- want motivates me to take the position that is i've taken. >> kenny will join a democratic primary field that includes former da lynne abraham senator

>> new at 11:00 woman in handcuffs makes a bold move in a desperate attempt to avoid arrest. she steals a police cruiser and takes it for wild ride. police outside of pittsburgh pick up 27-year-old roxanne primmer for allegedly

shoplifting. they placed her in the back of a police cruiser. well as they checked out her vehicle, she managed to slip through the plexiglass divider while handcuffs rammed this car car, and drive off. police say she veered down roads at very high speeds as officers chased her. she ultimately abandoned the car and was later taken back into custody. >> some 300 holocaust survives return to the auschwitz concentration cam in that poland today. ceremonies marking the 70th anniversary of the camp's liberation were held outside of the gate of death. one survivor beamier meg al as he pleaded for people not to repeat the a streets is thes of world war ii. >> the key to my existence we survivors do not want our past to be our children's future. >> estimated as many as 1.3 million people were sent to

auschwitz during the second world war. more than a million mostly jewish prisoners were killed there. a jury in tennessee convicts two former vanderbilt university football players of rape. cory beatty and brandon found guilty of raping a 21-year-old former neuroscience student in 2013. the jury rejected their claims that they were too drunk to know what they were doing. and that a college culture of birch drinking and promiscuity tour plame for attack. the jury deliberated for three hours before the verdict was announced. the two now face decades in prison. caught on camera in brazil a motorcyclist drives right into a sink hole. you see the sink hole swallowed the bike. fortunately the man riding it walked away unhurt. a broken water main is to blame for this hole in the street. a florida cat comes back from the dead and shows up at his own are in's back door in tam p florida g veterinarians

did actually pronounce bart the black and white feline dead after he was hit by a car. bart was then given to his owner who then buried him in the backyard. but to everyone's surprise bart later showed up on a neighbor's doorstep. it turns out the cat dug his way out of his grave and then hid for few days. >> came up looking for food. he was hungry. i knew there was something wrong. because i knew this cat was buried five days earlier and he was underground i took him to my -- the owner and he opened the door and he was in complete shock because we knew this cat was dead. there was no logical explanation and we just say it's god's miracle. >> wow. the human society now believes that bart was simply unconscious after being hit by that car. the cat is now being treated for severe head trauma arc broken jaw and an eye wound. well it turns out that the blizzard up north was just what the doctor ordered for a woman from nan tuck, massachusetts.

>> danielle smith had gone to the hospital early this morning with labor pains when when she she could out doctors said sean ready to deliver. she could go home. they offered her what turned out to be great vice. >> they said, well, you're only about three center meters right now. so you can go home, grab your things and come back just to be safe. so that's what i did. and we didn't expect anything to happen so soon. but it just happened so quickly. >> when she got back to the hospital then it was go time. >> it was go time. >> cadence smith moore arrived at 3:35 a.m. a healthy six and a half pounds congratulations. >> absolutely. >> well it is time to check in on our forecast. kathy is standing by in the weather sent. kathy. >> absolutely. there's a lot of truth to that as far as labor being reported to blizzards or relateed rather because that dramatic drop in pressure is said to send women into labor. a friend of mine whose an obgyn did a theater paper on that to prove it. pretty interesting stuff

scientific evidence to the labor. take look at this. beautiful picture in center city philadelphia where we are looking at some dry conditions but some area roads could still be a little wet out there so please watch out for those icy spots. our "eyewitness weather" watchers are telling us that the skies are clearing and we are lookinglooking at colder temperatures already settling in to the region. right now the temperature is just 20 degrees in philadelphia. being reported by tanya the wind out of the northwest about 14 miles an hour. 17 degrees as you get near skippack. lou is saying in eagleville winds out of the north about 9 miles an hour. the pressurizing as high pressure builds in moonlit skies and temperatures falling very quickly. you can see right about to the south of marple township, 24 degrees with winds out of the north the pressurizing as well with rising pressure we are looking at some clear skies overnight tonight. take a look the storm scan3 because right now we are clearing out and that means we

are going to fall fast. cold winds blowing as well. in philadelphia it's 23. trenton 19. allentown 18. the poconos only eight. to the north and west in the teens as well. so this cold will be building in and state college it's only 15. buffalo, new york, 11. we are looking at feels like reading that will take a tumble come tomorrow morning when you step out the door feel like eight in philadelphia. four in allentown. nine below in the poconos and then during the afternoon even though temperatures rise into the 30s it's still feels like it's in the 20s for philadelphia and wilmington and most of our southern and eastern regions and to the north and west it fools like it's in the teen. the poconos only five. so this cold high settles in bitterly cold especially wednesday night thursday staying cold and then watching this clipper a fast moving area of low pressure not a lot of moisture. no secondary development with this one. it goes to the north and brings us some snow showers thursday late and into friday morning. this is the way the future weather looks during the overnight thursday. seeing the snow.

for a few animal at the philadelphia zoo to have some fun. snow leopards, penguins and fume mass all felt right at home as the flakes were falling. the zoo remained closed today but it will reopen tomorrow. the philadelphia orchestra celebrate theed the unveiling of its new season tonight. ♪ >> members of the orchestra gave the crowd a sneak peek at what they'll be hearing at the kimmel center beginning september september 30th. this season will be a year long exploration of the famous philadelphia sound. the orchestra will revisit great works premiered during its 115 years. ♪
