you ukee ander contact you mentioned that police officer attempting to rescue two adults, a man and woman, both in their 60's from this burning home. unfortunately the flames were just too fierce. look at the the scene here on the 400 block of daily street in south philadelphia and you can see justin tense flames made their way through this home just completely gutting it. also, making that rescue effort just completely impossible cause ago this police officer to suffer some pretty minor burns on his hand. he is treated at temple university hospital and we did speak to executive chief gilliam who says this fire could have been prevented. >> at this time we did not find any indication there were smoke alarms in the home so the message is working smoke alarms for the early notification and helping them get out the weather did not play a part, fire fighters got the in about three minutes made a valiant effort but we do have two people dead.

>> reporter: now, we should mention, of course those deaths could have been prevented. the fire is under investigation. the cold weather, icy conditions, certainly didn't help the the cause out here. it is pretty treacherous even for our crews. i want to mention that the neighboring homes did not sustain damage so that is good news. those residents were allowed back inside of their homes and again, this fire is still being investigated. that is latest live from south philadelphia, nicole brewer cbs-3 "eyewitness news". nicole, thank you. also overnight investigators are searching for the cause of the overnight fire that sent one person to the hospital in germantown. fire fighters arrived at the scene on the 4600 block of green street around 2:00 this morning. the the unresponsive victim found inside is now hospitalized in stable condition. philadelphia police are looking for gunman who held up a fairmount bar overnight. it happened 12:30 at urban sal loon on the 2100 block of fairmount. police say the the suspect got away with a you this dollars

deadly shooting at first there, was a man badly injured in the front passenger seat there bleeding from the head and there was another man outside of the car bleeding as well but he was conscious and talking to police and neff said there was a shooting or that they were both hit. just before 1:00 police responded to a car accident in olney this minivan with five men inside crashed in the home at corner of american street and clarkson avenue. when police arrived a 20 year-old man was outside of the van and speaking with police. he and the 21 year-old man was bleeding in the front seat were both taken to the hospital and it wasn't until then that a half an hour later that police found out that there was a homicide. >> what we thought was just an auto accident, turned out to be, a double shooting with one homicide victim. >> reporter: police found out a 21 year old had been shot in the back of the head he was pronounced dead at the scene. he was shot in the hand and the head. he was on the scene police found a gun a and what appears

to be drugs. >> in the front compartment of the minivan we found several vials that appear to contain a green weed like substance. >> reporter: witnesses say three men were spotted running from the area. in the meantime there were five people inside of the home at the time of the crash. in one was injured but this family has to deal with structural damage inside and out. >> some of the stones and some of the bricks have been damaged and the inside of the property, drywall is crack. there is a a crack on the wood floors and the window frame appears to have been displaced . >> reporter: now licenses and inspections had been on the scene checking the structural integrity of the house and they have since left. they said the family can inside. the investigation continues. police say it is likely that the gunfire erupted inside and that is what caused this accident. reporting live from olney this morning, jan carabao for cbs-3

"eyewitness news" has learned that vandals made off from merchandise from lulu lemon the store in center city the the site of the partial roof collapse on tuesday. we're told that somebody threw a brick through the glass door and took some clothing. meanwhile one of the women hurt in the partial roof collapse at the walnut street stories giving thanks to her rescuers. bricks from a building next door came crashing down through the roof, while allie freedman and her friend written side the store. friedman said in part on baffle of myself, my husband larry and the rest of our family i wanted to extend my sincere thanks to the unknown people helped me get out from under the ruble of lulu lemon. you are heroes who hell stopped one you didn't know. thank you. for now the stories closed until all of the damage and debris can be cleaned up. we are told bricks fell seven stories from an adjoining high rise. city inspectors were back out on the scene yesterday a as they continued their investigation. workers from that building next door were also on hand to

terroristic threats and simple assault charges. happening today a accused trooper killer eric frein is due in court for a formal arraignment and expected to appear via correctional facility in pike county. frein is charged with first degree murder and other offenses in the september ambush that killed one pennsylvania state trooper, and left another seriously wounded. prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. it is 6:09. rather dramatic scene in san francisco to show you where people had to escape this burning building on fire that is coming up. also two men hired to shovel snow in front of the main line home are stopped and questioned by police. they were even told to sit in the snow while they were questioned. now some are asking if this was a case of racial profiling. and president obama comes to philadelphia today, we will have details of his visit on the other side, we will be right back

president obama heads to philadelphia this evening speaking to house democrats in town for a policy retreat at sheraton in society hill. vice-president biden will address that same group, tomorrow morning. security as you can imagine is going to be tight at the the sheraton as democrats attend this three day meeting. they are working on their agenda which will appeal to middle class voters. pennsylvania congressman bob brady says the retreat will give philadelphia a chance to lobby for next year democratic national convention. >> we just think we have the best city. we have a great tourist attractions, great restaurants, great history, we have great logistics security, everything falls into place. >> now, in addition to philadelphia at convention's short list includes new york city and columbus, ohio. democrats are expect to a

we're talking about. here's the roosevelt boulevard traveling in the southbound direction we are definitely starting to see a few more headlights beyond the area of kelly drive down through the schuylkill expressway. if this is where you are heading in 15 or 20 minutes by the time you get here it will be doublely slow. give yourself more time on the schuylkill westbound we are starting to see that volume pocket building in city a avenue as well. as we look at 202, 202 is fine around the schuylkill expressway no major delays just yet. we are still waiting on it. however, you can definitely see indicated by speed sensors that the rush is upon us. sixteen is your average on i-95 southbound out of the northeast down through the vine street expressway, 26 is your average on the schuylkill. again, we have a westbound pocket eastbound we're seeing that slow down as you a maneuver your way beyond the a area of conshohocken down toward gladwynn. we are still dealing with a water main break if you are traveling in cheltenham closing ashborn road at oak lane. tookany creek parkway or cheltenham avenue two great alternates. no delays for mass transit. the let's head back to the desk.

ukee. controversy in lower merion this morning after a pair of snow shovelers were stopped and questioned by the police. the would the man who hired them believes the officers may have racially profile the the young men. "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter has that story. >> police pulled up started talking to the boys and then sat them down in the snow. >> reporter: deborah saldonna said she was surprised to see two young man she had just hired to shovel their walk sitting in the the snow ordered not to move by police officers who pulled up and began questioning them. >> i think this is just a little extreme. they are shoveling snow in broad daylight. >> reporter: she says when the the two young men asked to get up from the frozen ground they told her they were ordered to stay put. >> he had asked if he could stand up because it was cold. no, you have to remain seated. >> reporter: when saldonna and her father tried to learn more they were told to go back inside their home. >> they told them sir go back in, we are conducting an investigation. >> reporter: eventually a after what she estimates was about 20 minutes 29 young men

lynn bellford is accused of taking more than $7,000 from her daughter's girl scout troop. investigators say bellford also used the debit card for her son, cub scout pack to buy make up and other expensive items for herself. >> we worked really, really hard for the money. >> we had in money for any of the programs for the kids and really that was what bothered us the most is it wasn't money that parents had donated but it was money that the kid had gone out and earned. >> bellford is charged with multiple counts of theft, receiving stolen property and other related charges. a jury will hear opening statement in the murder trial of patriots tightened, aaron hernandez today. the now 25 years oldies accused of killing football player odin lloyd in 2013. hernandez and two accomplices have pleaded in the guilty in the slaying. ernest wallace and carlos ortiz will be tried separate thely. it is super bowl weekend and there are all sorts of distractions, first tea flight
