this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and a live look at storm scan3 here. tracking our next winter storm. set to arrive tonight and could make for slick conditions on the roads tonight and tomorrow. >> today is sunday, february 1st, good morning to you, thanks so much for joining us, i'm nicole brewer at 6:00 on the dot. let's check in with carol for more on the superbowl sunday forecast. how is it looking carol? >> already better than it was yesterday morning at this time. temperature wise we had 15 degrees, yesterday morning windchills below zero, today not as bad. temperature wise, but we start to bring in precipitation especially much later on today. i think you have most of the day to do whatever you can. then we await our next little weather system coming in here. up in the poconos right now

so much warmer there up in broad heads ville, you can see, the snow that remains on the ground and why not at 20 degrees. storm scan3, you can also see the precipitation pressing in from the west. we are going to be finding it as we move through this evening, overnight and tomorrow, as well. it comes in a variety of wintery forms. however, we get anything from snow to sleet to freezing rain to regular rain, depending where you are in the area. temperatures right now 26 in philadelphia, 25 trenton 20 degrees in wilmington, 19 in the poconos, 21 in wildwood. and we should be getting above the freezing mark as we move through the afternoon which would be nice for a change. high temperatures today get to go about 35 degrees. and it won't be as windy as it was yesterday. in some spots later on this afternoon, i put that at 3:00 but could be much later than, that but just that some snow specially to the west could begin at that point. warnings advisories out the lesser category, the advisory, that's for philadelphia, you can see that in the purple, for the winter storm warning

where you are likely to be finding more in the way of some snow, maybe three-6 inches up through the area shaded in pink, that and a trace of some ice up there as women, that's the area you will also want to pay particular attention to as we go through this system right through tomorrow. so we'll time it all out time line so all of the computer models that compare everything, and that's going to be coming one eyewitness weather forecast, nick snow. >> carol, thank you. new this morning, crews are on the scene after water main break in philadelphia's kensington neighborhood. that break happened before 2:00 a.m. at the intersection of girard and montgomery avenue. traffic able to get by, but proceed with caution. concerns of icing in these frigid temperatures. of course those same frigid temperatures also caused water main break in center city. crews are on the scene repairing the brake located at tenth and filbert street. commuters might want to avoid this area until repairs are made. and, an investigation is underway after two people are found dead in burlington county. their bodies were found inside

a home on the 200 block of washington street in mt. holly. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers has the latest on the investigation. cops returned the house jeff before 9:00 a.m. neighbors said, 911 call leading them to the discovery of two bodies, inside the home. >> shock was the word, like what's going on? because you don't expect things like that in this neighborhood. >> it is a very quiet neighborhood, kids out playing, they come running cops everywhere. so, you know, we all come to see what's going on. >> neighbors watch as police conducted their investigation the bodies brought out of the home in mid afternoon. dan eat a's daughter lives in the same area. watching police take two people out of the home moments after the bod wrist found, one a woman led to patrol car the other? >> and they brought the young man out he had on boxer shorts, and he was full of blood. and that was it. they put him in the ambulance with handcuffs. >> mound holly police and the burlington county prosecutor's

offers would not comment on the case, unwilling to collar if i if the investigation was being treated as homicide. neighbors seem convinced it was. >> it is surprising, very much soap very disturbing, too. >> one thing police have told us so far is that they do not believe anyone in this area has anything to fear, which means, in all likelihood, that they do not have a suspect on the loose. we're in mt. holly matt rivers cbs-3, "eyewitness news". friends and family are mourning the loss after bensalem police officer. detective kevin cornish collapsed during 5k in philadelphia saturday morning. officers did cpr on him until emergency crews returned him to area torresdale hospital. cornish did not survive. philadelphia application are investigating the sudden death of a dui suspect who died while in police custody. officers arrested the 29 year old around 4:00 friday afternoon, brought him to police headquarters. investigators say he was found unconscious in his cell at 10:15 at night.

suspect's cause every death is under investigation. islamic state militants have released another video claiming they killed a hostage. >> this time, the victim was japanese journalist ken gin goto, who they have been debate to go save. omar villafranca has more. >> japanese -- >> isis released this video claim to go show the beheading of japanese journalist kenji goto in it the masterman with the british accent stood beside goto holding the knife. the millitant delivers a message in english to the japanese government, saying goto, being executed because of japan's support for the war against isis. japanese prime minister expressed outrage over the killing. he told reporters i feel indignation over this immoral and haneous act of terrorism. he also vowed japan will continue to provide humanitarian aid to countries fighting the terrorism. the japanese had been working with jordan to try to win goto's freedom n this video i

>> seattle hoping for back-to-back championships. new england was the last team to repeat. with superbowl wins in 2004 and 2005. in glendale, arizona terry okita, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". all right, it is 11:00, let's check in on the forecast carol. assume err bowl sunday a lot of people have plans. what do you think? >> yes, they do, and at the tail ends of these plans that's when they need to be more careful on the roads than going to the parties. because i think we'll probably be dry for much of the daylight hour. but as we get later on this evening, that's when we start to see the wet weather coming in here. we have a nice looking start to the day. it is not as cold as it was yesterday. this time of the year, it is very easy to please us, so it doesn't have to be below freezing and we're happy. ben franklin bridge looks great, 26 degrees out in philadelphia right now, at the airport, 25 trenton 20 degrees in wilmington. if you were up yesterday morning, you know how much warm they are is. and specially warmer because we don't have the winds yesterday, we had windchill of minus two three so actually,

these temperatures were some 28 degrees colder yesterday morning in philadelphia, than they are right now. it is still cold out there. but it is not as cold. everything's an agree this time of the year. storm scan3 we see the clouds starting to move in, this precipitation probably not hitting the ground, but you get the idea. that there is a system out there to the west, in the ohio valley, and it will be coming in here. we do have already in place the winter weather advisory, and that is through areas through philadelphia, wilmington lancaster and then winter storm warning to the north of that for the more significant precipitation coming up there. but in either case, you may be finding slick travel out there. just be careful. only places out of it, cape may county through sell tran and southern delaware. future weather look at 4:00 this afternoon. through the philadelphia area, points south everything looks fine. computer models say up around the pocono may be finding couple of spots of some snow starting early there. but really we get going as we get later on tonight than is

a look at 1:00 a.m. and you can see some snow through the poconos, allentown reading philadelphia, are you looking at a mix maybe we, are and then to the south of that, possibility of some rain. but could also be some freezing rain as these temperatures drop down which you know is just regular rain coming down. then it freeze on surface that's already frozen, and we know how colds it has been around here. by 2:00 a.m. looking at according to this model subject to change and they've been changing like crazy that we do have rain through philadelphia, that freezing line is just to the north of us. then we go to about 5:00 in the morning and we see some rain through philadelphia, freezing line approaching, the poconos, and then by the time we hit 8:00 a.m. this computer model says we get rain but again could that shall some freezing rain? are these temperatures low enough in areas that you can be fined ago problem with that? we just have to watch out for it. by noon, we get rain, and looks like these temperatures start to drop in the afternoon, and as that happens we get that wrap-around effect specially to the north and to the east of philadelphia, and

allentown, and the poconos and that's where you could be finding some of the wet weather then again. then it is gone, tuesday looks to be a dry day so let's do the ice amounts it, .7 of an inch anything over a trace, anything, as we know, is a problem. so allentown and reading and the poconos and lancaster, careful out there. but it is not totally out of the question that we could be finding some slick travel around the philadelphia area as well. mainly snow to the north snow-rain-ice through the philadelphia area, and then mainly rain to the south. but again some of these forecasts are calling for a bit of freezing rain even in some of the shore spots. amounts, coats to go ann through philadelphia, one to threonines our immediate northwestern suburbs allentown, reading maybe finding three to 6 inches of this, and then six to 10 inches of snow through the poconos. so, the amounts are not extreme, and our computer models say 1.2 inches, that's the most that any of them are coming up with, and that's the

euro. so doesn't look like a snow event. it looks really more like just watch out for your travel event. thirty-five in philadelphia, shore 38, and the poconos 28 degrees today and the weather starts to come in little later on. at 35 degrees, light winds not as bad as yesterday. but remember, the wet weather does come later everybody's got plans, and that sort every thing, so be very, very minds full that far as you go out. tonight, snow, sleet freezing rain temperatures of 30 degrees, a wet night, could be an icy night in spots so be extremely careful with changeable road conditions, as women, and bring those pets in 30 degrees and all that wet weather nobody wants to be out in that. then as we take a look at the next couple of days, we end up after monday, the temperatures drop on groundhog day boy doesn't it ever feel like groundhog day. temperatures drop in the afternoon. look at monday night's temperature, 12, tuesday dry wednesday, 42, nice little warm up, then maybe snow shower coming on thursday. i'm going to help you keep

died after a battle with the flu led to sepsis. >> anything that could possibly like, be painful or could be wrong was like wrong. >> mia's mother took her to the hospital after she had a 104 fever and became lethargic. >> she wasn't breathing on her own. her blood pressure dropped and that was when she had to be put on life support. you know she had never been that sick, so -- >> sepsis can develop when the body releases chemicals into the bloodstream to fight an infection, those chemicals can cause inflammation damaging organs immediate treatment with iv fluids and antibiotics is crucial so recognizing symptoms could be life saving. >> shortness of breath, rapid breathing, rapid heart rate, dizziness or light-headedness. >> doctors say while rare for the flu to lead to sepsis, there could be more cases this season. >> when the flu is more severe, or if it is not covered by that seasonal strain of vaccine, then a chance that that could occur

is more likely. >> mia didn't get a flu vaccine the year she got sepsis. >> and she -- had she gotten the flu shot, she maybe would not have gotten sick or had not had the kind of re that is she did. >> the family now gets vaccinated every year. doctors say while anyone can develop sepsis, the elderly and those on immune suppressing drugs like chemotherapy at the highest risk. i'm stephanie stahl, cbs 3 "eyewitness news". well, a dog is lucky to be alive after he ate a pair of women's boots. take a look. surgeons removed about 2 pounds of boot material from that dog's stomach on saturday. he underwent surgery at the veterinary specialty and emergency center in philadelphia. the four year old mixed breed's name is vince. he ate the boots yesterday afternoon. >> the situation, if they hadn't come in and had stayed in the stomach, he probably would have gotten really dehydrated electrolyte problems, gone into shock and eventually, you know, they would have brought him in. but they were very as tooth

>> bobbi christina brown remains in medically induced coma this morning. her father r&b singer bobby brown is at her bedside. found unresponsive face down in a bathtub, taken to atlanta area hospital yesterday. vanita reports. >> it was bobbi christina brown's husband and friend who found her face down in the bathtub in the morning. according to police, they immediately started cpr until brown could be transported to a nearby hospital. the incident comes one week after a tv movie which chronicled houston's tomorrow you will too us marriage to brown's father, bobby brown. >> he makes me laugh. 's family man. he lovers me. i know that. >> anthony decourtesies contributing editor at rolling stone magazine who interviewed whitney houston. >> all of these things, you know, those kind of anniversary are difficult for anyone. >> brown was the couple's only child. she was 14 when her parent divorced and 18 when whitney houston was found dead in a

>> today is sunday february 1st, thanks so much for joining us i'm nicole brewer. just about 63 let's sends it over to carol on this superbowl sunday a loft people will have plans carol. lou this weather impact them? >> i think the weather might impact you if you're out early, and careful and driving back fairly early, and many sections, you won't have a problem. but, if you're areas in the north, where you start to see precipitation, temperatures are dropping, that's when you might be finding some slick roads. let's take a look, see what we have right now. you can see we are looking in the philadelphia area just some clouds, what you are seeing offer to the west, might be actually hitting the grounds. we've got some very dry air out, there so a lot to work against. but we are going to be watching for a system coming in here, and it is a relatively significant system, in terms of the fact that it's got a lot of precipitation with it. soap, as we widen out the view, you can see it, comes in two forms. notice, the rain to the south and the snow to the north. and i think in our northern half of our viewing area, that's where you are more likely to find a winter storm.

for the rest of us, winter weather advisory, just because we need to be careful on the roads. amount will not be huge, at all, through philadelphia, and, in fact, only thinking about an inch of snow out of this through the lehigh valley, and the poconos maybe three-6 inches every snow. it is the timing, and maybe the possible change-over, with the temperatures. twenty-six right now out at the airport in philadelphia, 25 trenton, 20 degrees in wilmington, considerably warmer than it was yesterday morning, but certainly not warm. our temperatures this afternoon, will be getting to the mid 30's, maybe we get couple of degrees above. that will you could see some light snow in spots especially, to the west, earlier in the afternoon, then other spots but i think after dark is primarily when we will be finding a lot of this moving in. now, the winter storm warning the areas shade in the pink, through allentown reading and point north of that, again, for the three 6 inches every snow possible for philadelphia wilmington, lancaster, trenton you're right on the line. but maybe about an inch, as these temperatures will be warmer here, and we're

expecting to see that rain coming in. so, future weather by 4:00 this afternoon, we stopped it here, you can see maybe through allentown approaching reading, you start to see the first bits of snow, and then do we wait until later on tonight? and i will put another pause point in there, when i come back here, in about 15 minutes, so that we can see at 11:00 when people might be driving around, but just know by 1:00 a.m., we have got that freezing line maybe through the philadelphia area, with snow to the north of that. it just depends on how fast we can get some of this surface temperatures warmed up. so that we can rule out any freezing rain. but, it is a night that you do want to pay attention to your driving and your plans outside. we'll continue to follow it in detail coming up. nickatrol. >> carol, thank you. heavy smoke and flames ripped through at least one trailer and tires on route 422 in comber township. the fire broke out around noon. firefighters brought it under control just after 2:00, thankfully, there were no injuries. and an investigation is underway after two people are found dead in burlington county. their bod wrist found inside a home on the 200 block of washington street in mt. holly. crime scene unit spent hours at that scene collecting evidence, trying to figure out what happened to that mail and female victim. neighbors watched in disbelief there. >> shocked was the words what's going on, because you don't expect things like that in in that i intoed. >> they brought the young man out, he had on boxer shorts, and he was full of blood. and that was it. and they put him in the ambulance with handicuffs. >> police tell it is, they do not believe residents in the area are in any danger. that investigation continues. well, more airbag troubles in the auto industry. federal officials now say three big auto makers are

preparing to recall more than 2 million older vehicles. don champion reports now from new york. >> the new recall involves defect that could cause airbags to deploy unexpectedly causing an accident. the national highway traffic safety administration says some of the vehicles were already included in another recall. the problem appears to be a faulty crash since or that deploys the airbags. >> what we're talking about is that remedy was not fully effective. so now we have a second recall that will involve a new remedy. >> so far, there have been about 400 reports of accidental deployment. in 39 of those cases spontaneous deployments happened in vehicles that had already been fixed after the first recall. vehicles covered in the new recall include 2002 to 2003 gym liberty, 2002 to 20003 jeep cherokees 2002-2003 odyssey, and acura m.d. x. also included are all pontiac

vibe, dodge viper, toyota corolla, toyota matrix, and toyota avalon's from 2003 to 2004. while federal officials say this recall issue is separate from vehicles already being repaired over problems with t a/k/a ta corporation airbags there is an overlap of about a million vehicles. those defective airbags have been known to rupture and can spray metal fragments inside vehicles. drivers can enter their vehicles vin number at safer car ~.gov/vin to see if they're impacted by the new recall. don champion, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". well the philadelphia parking authority begins cracking down on lifts, that's a car shares service that hits the street of philadelphia. the ppa impounded two carson oregon friday night lyft similar to uber, smart phone app that allows to you finds vehicles nearby and pay for your ride. ride shares operations are not permitted in philadelphia.

fire and hazmat crews rush to the scene of train derailment in south philadelphia. eleven tanker cars caring crude oil derailed at 11th and paterson around 3:00 a.m. cars did not tip over onto their sides. no one was injured and no oil was spilled. in atlantic city the sale of the former revel casino was on hold while the company that ran its night club appeals. idea boardwalk claims night club restaurants and power plants could be wiped out if the $95.4 million sale goes through. revel has until tuesday to respond to that appeal. well, car lovers, rejoice. philadelphia auto show shifts into high gear at the pennsylvania convention center, something for everybody. we have temperatures in the 20's right now, this is considerably warmer than yesterday, and again, without the wind, we're not dealing with the sub zero windchills as we were yesterday at this point. twenty-five allentown, trenton, 17 millville, 19 wildwood, 20 degrees in atlantic city, 19 up in the poconos at this point. storm scan3, we are finding some clouds, we're finding specially where you're seeing the darker colors, you may be finding some that far snow, or at least flurry or two try to hit the grounds. the bulk of this does hold off though little later on today. we are under winter storm warnings and winter weather advisory. the advisory, the lesser category for the philadelphia area. it is all of these areas shaded in the purple from lancaster and points west of that, all the way to the shore, we can be specialty g on the orders of an inch of snow. but that snow could also include some sleet and maybe even some freezing rain, so just be careful if that hams. to the north, three to 6 inches generally what we are expecting with the winter storm warning. they won't start at 7:00. the philadelphia one in purple goes until 7:00 a.m.

tomorrow morning now. mainly snow to the north of us. well to the north. then snow, ice rain, the ice of course is what we fear, we respect snow, we fear ice i think it is probably good way to put it, and then the rain is not a picnic either. but that is through the philadelphia area and point north and also little bit to the south and east. and then as we go farther to the south, it is mainly rainout of this system. amounts, unimpressive. we're happy to say. coating to an inch, philadelphia, one to 3 inches our northern and western suburb, you go through allentown, reading maybe three to 6 inches of this snow and some sleet mixed in, maybe icing as well depending on temperatures, and some rain, and then farther north that far in the poconos six to 10 inches are possible up there. now, the ice this computer mod sell not putting any in our area. it is putting it, throw through lancaster allentown the poconos and all of the

spots inbetween. watch out for that tomorrow morning. also know that sometimes we have seen this before, where it looks like the air temperature is fine, but the grounds temperatures is still below freezing, and any rain that comes down freezes on contact. we'll have to pay particular attention later on tonight and going through the first part of the day tomorrow with any chance of some icing coming up. snowfall amounts they go by one name, the euro, gfs the rpm, but none of them pick up really much in the way of snow around philadelphia maybe 1.2 inches, the most out of the euro, timing on there is ac loot at 5:00 this afternoon, maybe little snow through allentown, a look at 10:00 o'clock tonight. so still clouds, and again time change, so keep your eye on your conditions where you are. but, by the time we hit midnight, notice we do have a freezing line through the

philadelphia area, take it easy there. should be some rain to the south. just be careful of any freezing rain, to the north it is snow. by the time we hit 2:00 a.m. we're still watching that freezing line, we're watching some of the warmer air come through philadelphia, this line gets pushed to the north as you can see as we go through the next hour or so, i just caution you that the grounds temperatures have to be above freezing there is computer model says rain, remember the temperatures, they'll be key and then this thing gets out of here and we will be left with some better weather conditions after that. so not a huge storm at all. specially through the philadelphia area. but it could be one that has some slick travel. in the 30's today but the 20's in the poconos. so not bad day today at all. you can get out do, whatever it is that you need to do. everybody's at the store buying gigantic bags of chips i think. tonight 30 degrees, inside, you and the pets, as well. remember the snow, freezing rain and the sleet depending on where you are.
