tonight we have our eye on the storm. light snow started to fall in norristown montgomery county and also take a look at the scene in center city philadelphia. "eyewitness news" along the schuylkill expressway where wintry weather has already arrived. the heaviest precipitation is still on its way. a live look also at storm scan3 this hour. it shows the system is now covering the delaware valley. the region is expected to see it all a mix of snow, sleet and rain. good evening everyone. i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us tonight. the worst of the storm is expected overnight and that is causing some concern about your morning commute. we have time team three coverage. our latest winter storm. matt rivers is tracking road conditions and meteorologist justin drabick and kate bilo are watching this system very closely. we'll start tonight with kate. she's life in west chester with the cbs3 mobile weather lab where i can see the snow falling around you kate. >> reporter: absolutely, natasha. it really didn't take long for the snow to start piling up here in west chester. it started just about an hour

ago. you can hear the clock tower chiming behind me coming down steadily but i want to show you the good news. the roads right now a lot of people coming home from their big game parties or from the bar bars and pubs around here. you can see the roads are just wet. temperatures just slightly above freezing now. notice how the cars are covered. here witness cbs3 mobile weather lab it's just above freezing the temperature an hour ago about 34.6 a significant drop in temperature as the snow has come in. if you follow me over here to the sidewalk this was completely cleared about 10:00 o'clock. now as you can see we've got a fresh coating of snow and that light fluffy snow coming down right now and it's coming down at a pretty good clip in west chester will eventually change over to rain but not before accumulating perhaps an inch or 2-inches perhaps some freezing rain on top of that and then changing over to all rain overnight. take look the storm scan3. ing see it's snowing just about everywhere. we have a steady band right around philadelphia. and into new jersey as well but light snow actually encountered

dry air took awhile for it to start falling now the atmosphere is saturated this snow is falling at a pretty good clip. what to expect through the rest of the overnight hours we expect still that light snow and rape to start. but it's starting to intensify and during the overnight that's when the instead yesterday snow will fall mainly to the north still concerned about the threat for significant icing in our far north and west suburbs and mainly rain to the south. that will eventually taper off the rain and freezing rain early tomorrow morning. so back here live you can see the steady clip this snow is falling at. we're on market street here in west chester and it is coming down pretty heavily. the roads have really cleared out just in the past half hour or so i think everyone trying to get home, beat the bad weather because it's really gone down here rapidly and will continue to do so through the rest of the overnight hours. now, justin will have more on watches, warnings and advisories for the entire area for now reporting live in west chester meteorologist kate bilo cbs3 "eyewitness news". thanks a lot kate. good news the roads are mainly just wet. watch out for sidewalks and obviously the bridges and

overpasses but winter storm warnings in effect for the counties in pink that's northern bucks, montgomery county, up through lehigh valley and poconos and winter weather advice of course for the city and surrounding suburbs. areas under the warning that's the best chance to see icy accumulations and the highest snowfall amounts with this system through the overnight start to get that change over but pockets of heavier snow breaking out wilmington philadelphia now under 2-mile visible. so keep that in mind when traveling overnight into tomorrow morning. temperature right now 33 degrees officially at the airport. we are sitting at freezing in allentown and reading. suburbs kind of the same story. hovering right around that freezing mark and temperatures may drop another degree or two as that steady snow continues to develop. again mainly snow and ice for the poconos. we'll see the most snow up in that region you get to the lehigh valley down through the city a mixture of snow, ice changing over to plain rain and south jersey and delaware mainly rain from this even. let's break it down through the overnight snow changing to rain but we have to watch the northwest suburbs some of this

cold air may stick around longer there could be a prolonged period of freezing rain. far northwest suburbs one to 3-inches of snow. lehigh valley three to six and a couple of tenths of inch of ice accumulation in the northern suburbs. coming up in the full forecast we'll break down how much snow we'll see and ice amounts. temperatures stay cold over the neck seven days. natasha. >> justin thank you very much. as snow and freezing rain move into the area tomorrow morning's commute looks like it could get pretty messy. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is at 30th street station. he's got the very latest where snow is already falling here in the city matt. >> reporter: natasha it started i would say within the last half an hour or so the highways here at 30th street station are for the most part still okay give it a couple of hours more of this kind of stuff, however and commuters might not have pleasant of a monday morning commute. with that said penndot says they're ready. >> it's only going to be little snow if any but it doesn't take much to cause a headache during

a monday morning commute. i mean the day after your super bowl party isn't usually fun to begin with from one driver to another -- >> give good distance for the people that's in front of you and leave enough time you won't have to rush. >> reporter: good folks over at penndot say they'll try their best to make sure the drive is as smooth as possible. they zen out over 300 trucks sunday night. a few we spotted along the schuylkill expressway waiting for the worst to start. officials say they've been prepping for this one for few days. >> in advance of the oncoming storm penndot retreated local access highways on thursday. in addition crews were able to spread salt on thursday and friday while snow squalls were messing through the region. so the highways have been well treated in advance of this stop. >> reporter: if the salt and the snow do get to be too much, these are the guys you'll like vol to call. amelio and jordan at bala motor sports together. >> this is your busy season. >> it's busy season. when everybody break down. >> reporter: the pair expected to work all night and into

starts at 4:00 a.m. also tonight, we are tracking a developing story. police sources tell "eyewitness news" an arrest has been made in the bus stop murder of a woman in north philadelphia. surveillance video captured the january 13th crime. kim jones was shot once in the back of the head while waiting ton a septa bus at 12th and jefferson. sources tell us the suspect was run one of her workers at turning points for children. charges have been filed against the suspect. >> police in mt. holly new jersey charged dennis pozniak with the murder of his girlfriend and her father in the home they shared. 24-year-old nicole wilson and 52 brian wilson were murdered sometime friday into saturday. the medical examiner ruled they were bludgeoned to death. pose pee yack were found with several cuts that were self inflicted he's awaiting a psychiatric evaluation and being

held oh and a million dollars bail. now a three alarm fire in gloucester county sends four people to the hospital and damages up to 10 apartments. this fire happened at the chestnut lane apartments in deptford. five people were injured. all with minor injuries. the red cross is provideing emergency assistance to 27 people from 11 different families including six children. the landlord of complex is providing off site housing for all of those who have now been displaced. one woman is dead after an early morning accident on the roosevelt boulevard. the one-car crash happened in the area of adam avenue in law crest. the woman was driving at a high rate of speed according to police. lost control and then struck a pole and a tree. she was pronounced dead at the scene. the search meantime continues for a prisoner who escaped from a correct al facility in berks counsel too. pennsylvania state police say john givens pulled the fire alarm inside building 30 of the

warp warnersville community correction center and made a run for it. bellefont man was last seen getting into a red car after midnight. he had originally been arrested for driving unthe influence. measles spreading all across the nation and now comes word of a case in delaware. new castle county delaware dealing with its first confirm case of measles in three years. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson tells us what health officials are are saying now. >> this is one of the most contagious infections. >> reporter: add one more voice to a growing list of health professionals including officials from the centers for disease control with a warning. there is a measles outbreak. it is expand at an alarming rate and entirely preventible. >> if you're not vaccinated and near somebody who's contagious you have a 90% chance of becoming infected. >> reporter: delaware pub look health director dr. carol is following developments nationwide. the c d.c. is now reporting more than one hadn't dread cases of measles across 14 states

stemming from an outbreak traced to disney land in california. since then, more isolateed incidents in the northeast. infected college student boarded an amtrak train in new york. delaware woman comes back to new castle county with the infection from traveling abroad. >> it happens because there are more unvaccinateed individuals in our than a decade ago. >> the doctor says anti vaccination movement started over the last 15 years. >> the segment of the population that really felt that the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine was causing an increase in autism. >> we had more science now than ever before to help us say there just is no connection. >> reporter: in most of the current measles cases the infected were not vaccinated. >> back now in pennsylvania where the risk is among the greatest. according to the cdc the number of kindergarten aged children who last year failed to get a measles vaccine was nearly 15%.

back now on "eyewitness news", a live look from the cbs3 mobile weather lab. as you can see light snow is steadily falling in west chester right now. we do have live team weather coverage with meteorologist justin drabick and kate bilo. they'll have more on what you can expect when you wake up in the morning in just about two minutes. also this same storm system that we're dealing with now blanketed the midwest with as much as a foot of snow. more than 1600 nights have been cancel out of chicago airports. the weather also led to power outages affecting thousands of customers. and blowing drifting snow also making for treacherous travel. in eastern nebraska several sections of interstate 80 have already been shut down. now the daughter of late singer whitney houston remains in a georgia home to need.

bobby christina brown is in a medley induced coma. the 21-year-old was discovered by her husband in their roswell mommy o brown was face down in bathtub and unresponsive. police searched her home and found no signs of a struggle no sign of drugs. whitney houston died three years ago. she was also found in a bathtub on the eve of the grammys in los angeles. bobby christina's father bobby brown released a statement earlier saying "please allow for my family to deal with this matter and give my daughter the love and support she needs at this time". with no cowboys to cheer on governor christie takes in football of another sort during a visit to the united kingdom the governor tweeted this photo after leaving the match between arsenal and aston villa writing arsenal won, great game. quite the experience being here. he met up with some americans later and tweeted watching super bowl 49 at the pub in london with a few rutgers u he can

change students. a church in port richmond celebrating the arrival of a relic from a popular pope turned saint. archbishop cha pew celebrated mass at saint addle man. a vial of blood from pope saint john pope the second was play on the altar. the parish parish feels a special connect to the sane. he visited that in 1976 right before he became pope. snow sleet and rain it's all expected to be falling throughout the night all across the region. we have team three eye on the storm coverage for you tonight. meteorologist kate bilo and justin drabick tracking the latest conditions for us. we'll start with kate. she's life with the cbs3 mobile weather lab in west chester where the flakes are certainly falling and have been for sometime now. right, kate? >> reporter: they really have, natasha. for the past hour the snow has been coming down very steadily.

it took while for it to tart falling, but once it did, it really picked up in intent is the quickly you can see still falling heavily at the mommy and it's already coated the ground pretty well here. we're right here on mark street and you can see a lot of snow and now it's starting to get that little bit more avenue wet consistency good snowball making snow here in west chester. we met a few kids. they're hoping for a snow day. it looks like this will change to rain much this is not our storm. a bigger storm for areas to the north. with this snow on the ground the sidewalks are slippery we saw businesses out here salting and getting things ready for the overnight hours and the early morning even though we do expect that change to rain. take look at storm scan3. eye you can see what we'ring looing at right now. steady snow falling over portions of south jersey even pulling down some colder air and that is bringing the snow in changing it from rain to snow and then eventually back to rain rain. snow falling of course here in the western suburbs. whenwe do have snow amounts to tell you about already and these are going to be in the next couple of hours.

>> overnight steady snow for the poconos all night long that's the area will see the heaviest accumulations. far northwest in the lehigh valley snow and threat for significant icing and that certainly could lead to very slick travel overnight and into tomorrow morning. the city and suburbs snow changing to brief period of freezing rain perhaps then to rain. delaware and south jersey this is mainly rain again starting in some spots as a brief period of snow. back here live we're in west chester with the cbs3 mobile weather lab, and the roads are getting a little bit slippery, mainly the main roads at least are still wet. but we're starting to see that little light glaze of snow so you definitely want to take it slow if you're out on the roads and temperatures are steadily plumetting we're down to 31.8 in west chester right now. certainly cold enough for snow. and certainly cold enough for some ice. we've got problems all across the region and, of course, we like to check when our "eyewitness weather" watchers and see what they're seeing. hi justin.

>> nice report there. weather watchers are reporting to moderate snow over much of the delaware valley right now and again their temperatures are at or just slightly above freezing reporting a dusting on the cars, the driveways and the streets just wet at this point. but that could change. over the next few hours but some of the temperatures right now in norwood, pennsylvania, 33 degrees by sean. kevin wilson in havertown sitting at freezing right now. generally right around freezing in williams williamstown by peter. 32 in reading that is hour. buena vista new jersey also at freeing you get the picture hovering around 32 degrees. we may drop another degree or two and we do have a few areas picking up snow already up in sailorsville keith checks in with an inch and a half so far out in burnville. 1 inch officially by lieutenant alan matthews. gilbertsville a quarter of an inch. one hundredths of an inch in norwood, pennsylvania. take you outside. looking at the ben franklin bridge. visible has dropped the snow is starting to pick up. so just keep that naped through

the overnight hours. slow travel for the early morning commute. difference in temperature compared to this too many yesterday. so we're starting to get rid of some of that arctic air. where 11 to 16 degrees warmer than 24 hour ago. still arctic air is stubborn. it lingers around north of the city so extended period of snow and certainly poe then shall for freezing rain in the northwest suburbs up through the lehigh valley early tomorrow morning. heavy snow will start to pick up through the overnight hours watch that rain starting to move in from the south. i don't think it gets this far north this early in the morning. this is 6:00 a.m. northern bucks montgomery, county and lehigh valley still has a shot to see freezing rain at this point for the start of the morning drive. eventually you'll see that change over to plain rain by early afternoon most of the storm is gone. it's mainly just the first half of the day tomorrow and then into monday night we start to clear the skies out and then tuesday fresh arctic air mass returns the delaware rally. the morning commute around philadelphia areas of heavy rain.

even they we won't be seeing snow it will impact the travel. watch out the freezing rain potential to the north and west suburbs. slick travel reduced visible early tomorrow morning. how much snow are we talking about? areas in gray here philadelphia, wilmington up to trenton, maybe around a coating or so. get to the lie blue areas northern chester bucks montgomery county one to 3-inches. lehigh valley northern berks county 323 to six the poconos see decent amount of snow. six to 10-inches good news for the skiers and riders. ice accumulation, yes, there is potential there in the areas here in blue i mentioned the northern suburbs up through the lehigh valley and poke nos maybe couple of hundredths of an inch maybe .2 of an inch of ice accumulation depending how long the cold air remains in place. right now temperatures at or slightly below freezing. but they'll slowly climb above freezing through the overnight hours and tomorrow morning. we'll start to see improving conditions through the morning hours. but then don't get used it to. look at this surge of colder air. monday night temperatures in the teens and 20s. that's not even factoring in the wind. overnight snow freezing rain and rain.

welcome back. volunteers got together at a local high school to raise money for those in need. "eyewitness news" cameras were there this morning at clear view regional hoy school in mullica hill for the fun riser hoagies for hope. more than 200 people gathered and made 2-foot hoagies to sell for the super bowl with all the proceeds going to local families families. volunteers made a total of 1200 hoagies. nice job. justin is back with the last check on your
