5:13 am
so, you always need to slow it down whenever you have got wet weather on the horizon here, we certainly still do, there is at least little bit of a lull, that's trying to form in the back edge here, but there is still a loft moisture to work w we may not necessarily see this whole thing shift through, and the lull comes with it, you can even see how some additional rounds of moisture and precipitation have been picking up over northeastern maryland. now you have seen snow, you have seen rain, you have seen everything inbetween here, in a place we have snow accumulation out in our live neighborhood network outside whitfield elementary school. we have 7 inches of snow on the ground up in bathhpa versus maybe little slush or not much of anything other than ponding. the further south you are. so it is location, location, location on this one. and very, variable visibility, to go along with it, here, perfect visibility in wildwood at this observation site versus below a mile up in the poconos, will be one of those split different forecasts where you might see something
5:14 am
totally different than your neighbor couple of communities away. 42 degrees meanwhile where we eventually hit our daytime high. and it is groundhog day. meanwhile, later tonight temperatures come crashing down, so if there is any left over moisture, you got to worry about it potentially refreezing. that's something else for tomorrow morning's driver. carol erickson in the mobile weather lab, right now we find her in chester county. good morning carol. >> yes, we are on 422 north coventry township. headed along the roads are little worse out here, little bit more slipping, because the temperatures are getting closer and closer to the freezing mark. but still generally compared to what we could be finding it is not the same problem that we saw or could be finding. reason i mention later on, because a lot colder air is going to be coming in here. and as it does so, this afternoon, and this evening weaver concerns about the flash freeze, very strong winds bringing some colder air little later this afternoon
5:15 am
if those winds don't dry these roads out anything that's left behind can just instantly freeze we've seen this kind of problem before. so just watch it. >> not just the morning commute which might be little bit easier in some spots especially, say south of reading or maybe even reading south gone up to 35 degrees, but allen to ill is it still looking at temperatures right at the freezing mark, last observation out of the at the air in recording was for freezing rain. the farther north go the more you can want to pay attention to how the roads are in any case hydroplaning is very possible with the standing watt their we're seeing out here. justin how are the roads now any improvement? >> pack your patience,
5:16 am
accident 309 northbound past norristown road. you can see police activity there, cars slowing down little bit of gaper delay there, but looks like you may have taken the turn a little too fast, as a lot of slushy conditions still out on the roads, so just keep that in mind. take it slow. pockets of heavy rain moving through the regionment look at the ben franklin bridge visibility very low can barely see the bridge right now. that's some of the mild air trying to move in on top of the colder surface causing some of the fog. >> betsy ross, 35 on the walt whitman bridge. not just the bridges, a.c. expressway has restriction 95, 495, delaware. it is a mt. laurel would go. there is transformer fire between church street, saint david drive and academy road alternates. you got couple of those, 73 or union mill road. mass transit looks good. no delays at the airport so far. we send it back over to ukee. >> jd as you know we aren't

5:23 am
now, here's the thing. i still want you to expect that it could be slick out there. even if you are seeing it turn over to rain, expect that you might still have a cold enough grounds, that it does, you know produce maybe some freezing on contact or something like, that so with that you've got reduced visibility, generally speaking, unless you're up in the lehigh valley pocono region, seeing any of the snow or sleet turning over to just rain, in with time, if it hasn't already. but it will slow you down. doesn't really matter what you find out there. and then, later tonight as skies clear we will see the temperatures just come crashing down as we start off the morning, tomorrow morning you're only in the mid teens. that does mean that anything will easily re-freeze if it is left over, you know, with a ponding situation, or any kind of lingering moisture at all. just sunshine tomorrow, i think we will be in similar situation, where you might have to take it slow. justin over to you. >> and good morning, katie. good morning everyone, key words here is slow this morning, a lot of accident activity just to the north of the city where we have the icy
5:24 am
conditions, a lot of slush on the area roadways. so, keep that in mind. when traveling especially around turns. an accident here, 309 northbound, past norristown road looks like the crew is on the scene right now hopefully they clear this up soon. again, it is the curve right there, so probably spun out little bit into the left lane. ben franklin bridge visibility down, with that fog developing, as we are looking going inbound into the sit traffic picking up little bit. speed restrictions, on all area bridges and many of the major highways, 25-mile per hour restrict sons on the ben franklin bring and betsy ross, 35 on the walt whitman bridge. do have transformer fire, in mt. laurel. this is church street between saint david drive academy road, couple accidents route 73 or union mill road to get you around that. up on the northeast extension tractor-trailer, right between the quakertown and lehigh valley interchange. back to you.
5:25 am

5:30 am
got to just expect that it could, at least be slick. you know, you always want to go into a situation like this, better safer than sorry. you snow but you can see within the last three hour loop of storm scan, how the rain-snow line has really lifted to the north here. so, for the most part, a loft just already seen it turn over to just straight up rain, the problem is, if the grounds is still cold enough as it very well may be for the next few hours, you may still have a freezing rain situation on your hands and possibly, even little bit of sleet mixing in. radar, it is a good guide, but not always exactly what you're finding out there so here's a look at the winter weather alerts. winner storm warnings until at least the early afternoon and all of the hot pink shaded count ills, so basically the northern portion of our area, and then, winter weather advisories notice philadelphia county has now since been taken out of it, that one was allowed to expire at 5:00 a.m. so with time, we will see all of the advisories and warnings just gradually expire, from south to north as milder air takes over. and look at the spread. you have got 20's,
