justin? >> reporter: in a ought a ohio. >> we are having technical difficulties with justin's audio. quite a scene in, montgomery county. i do believe we have jan carabao standing by right now. >> good morning. >> reporter: erika and ukee, good morning. we're having some technical difficulties out here but if you can hear me, again we have gotten confirmed that there is one fatality involved in this overnight fire, three or people taken to the hospital just for minor injuries and that includes a fire fighter. fire fighters have a lot of work to do on the scene this morning and they have a lot of work to do. dozens of fire fighters remain on the scene now. we're toll that the fire is under control but fire is not out on the back side of the building. it is hard to see from our vantage point but fire fighters are working to put out hot spots. i see that throwing water on

to the building as we speak but if you take a look at the fire you can see how big and intense it was early in the morning. the this is around 1:00 when fire call came in on the 600 block of sweet street here in norristown. this apartment building is call the norris. it has 30 units inside. fire units a had to work to get everybody out they went through this building meticulously to do that but one person was found unresponsive, taken out of the building treated by e ms on the scene. but later died at the hospital. that person has in the been identified this morning. but this fire grew very fast and fire crew as arrived they saw heavy smoke and heavy fire. they quickly extended this to a four a alarm fire and again multiple rescues had to take place. we will look at the video you can see traumatic rescues that unfolded in front of the eye. one man was waving from the higher floors asking to be rescued. another woman on the fourth story balcony so the fire

chief tells us this could have been even worse scenario, however again one person has died, a lot of people's vac waited not only at this residents but at a their by neighboring residents as well, lets take a listen. >> this fire as i mentioned, there was smoke. we had multiple reports of people trapped on all floor levels. there were rescues done by inside the building outside the main area tea advises, crews had their handful when they first got the here. >> you don't necessity where to start, they tell you you get out of your house. they told me to grab something i grabbed my purse and my medication, that is it. i didn't know what to do. >> reporter: fire crews are working to extinguish the fire the once that is out the cause will begin. the fire crews believe it started in the basement and probably spread through the entire building by the trash or garbage shoot. that is still under investigation.

they do know it was through the entire apartment building sends dozens of residents in the street. a lot of them are being held by red cross this morning. as soon as we get more information about the person who died we will have that to you. we are live, from norristown jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". people are now getting help from the red cross. >> lets get back to justin finch at norristown high school providing shelter for those folks good morning. >> good morning. we have new numbers now from the red cross. they are telling us they are sheltering about 21 people three less than when we last saw you here. they could see that number grow and shrink as more people arrive to find they do need assistance. a shelter is being set up here at norristown high school. you can see their trailer set up in front of the gym where folks are sheltered inside. lets take you to video from hours ago those people rescued by fire fighters from their burning building, several daring rescue attempts were

made and unsuccessful. we know it was a fatal fire this morning. those evacuees, were busted and brought here to norristown high school and continued help. red cross, tell us to survive that fire, they are here, and they now face more challenging. lets listen. >> your first reaction is, thank goodness i'm safe as we start to think about things. it can than very hard. we have special experts who volunteer for us. that we use, we use psychologist psychologists, we have rabbis, priests, imams all kind of people. >> there is a need for all of those people, looking at additional video of that rescue effort this morning. people being pulled from that burning building just a few hours ago. what is going on inside right now is not just people in blankets and cots but they are having their needs assessed

you can see rescuers here surrounding the aircraft in taipei's river. fire officials said the that the 30 missing are eat are in the fuselage or already been pulled down river. as you mentioned this was an incredible crash. all caught on dash cam video. take a look at that aircraft flying on its side help one wing graces an overpass and hits a taxi. all before plunging in the river. that taxi driver was injured but amazingly managed to survive. as for passengers, 15 of the 58 people on board are dead and that number could increase as this search effort continues. at this point no official cause has been released but black boxes have been recover but that should help answer some question. and, coming in from just above that scene. this is airlines second atr72 to crash in the here. another crash last july killing 48 people. we will stay on top of this

good morning, we want to update breaking news. one person is dead after a fire rips through a norristown apartment building overnight. >> red cross ace cyst continuing dozens of resident left homeless. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao is on the the scene jan? a lot of solid fire fighter work on display today fire chief says it is even more fatality as a result of this huge overnight fire, however one person has died, three other people including a fire fighter had to be taken to the

hospital with minor injuries, this morning and you can see here on the scene dozens of fire fighters remain, to keep an eye out for hot spots that makes for this fire and it is under control. take a look at what the fire looked like earlier this morning as crew is a arrived on the scene right around 1:00 o'clock. this is 600 block of swede street. fire crew as arrived to heavy smoke and flames that were visible this apartment building called the norris is nearly 30 units. crews started the evacuation. dozens of people needed to be rescued as we take a look at this video we were able to capture dramatic rescues this morning. one man was waving his arms from his apartment window and taken down by ladder. another woman was waiting on fourth floor balcony, and frightening morning for everyone involved here, not only in this apartment building but neighboring apartment buildings as well had that had to be evacuated

cross expects that we may have to shelter or assist many here in the coming hours and days here. we are looking now, at where they are set up in the gym right outside that red cross trailer. there are goods in that trailer now going in the gym and assist those in need. we know that breakfast is now being served for those families. they are also trauma volunteers inside to help them process what they went through this morning. we are live at norristown high school i'm justin finch cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> so good to see judge hughes and crew on the scene. 6:33. here's traffic and weather together. here's katie. >> good morning everyone. we are seeing a little flurry this morning but this is a quiet day, a day we will rebound. it is february after all and it will be a lot like that in comparison to yesterday. looking at last couple days here you can see a few flurries have rolled through. we did hear from one of our eyewitness weather watchers up dark and earl any new castle county and, that flew in that

area at this point, it is not much left. so you might still find that lingering snow flake here and there but it comes courtesy of that disturbance off to the north. we are not seeing a major source of a problem. as we look to our forecast here we are looking at light snowfall by tomorrow, generally speaking we're talking about a modest coat to go an inch out of that. timing is less than ideal. snow may be falling about this same time tomorrow. for morning commute, it the may be more of a nuisance to get to and, meanwhile your current temperatures we're in the teens and lower 20's in other locations but that does set us up to rebound more readily here. expect some sun along the the way across the board and that lingering temperatures in the poconos, chilliest up in the mountains, and then where it should be in both philadelphia and all of the areas. and, vittoria. >> i could say the same thing traffic wise right now, katie in and out of the area and in between, in and out of the neighborhood it is starting to pick up that rush hour traffic.

lets give you a better idea. traveling on i-95 specifically in the south bun direction out of the northeast down through the vine street expressway you are slam. speed sensors are dropping down in the 20's and teens and through construction zones at cottman and girard. those are slow spots. this shot is right around allegheny. approaching area have the vine street expressway you will hit that rush hour. traveling on the roosevelt boulevard same story, we are seeing that big pocket of traffic build on the schuylkill westbound a approaching city out through to gladwynn and because of that pocket it is affecting southbound boulevard back toward kelly drive. it will be a problem as well. west eighth street is closed in the land dale area as a result of the water main break. if you are traveling in and around that stretch, seventh or kennel worth avenue would be your best bet. we have an accident on the pennsylvania turnpike eastbound at bensalem, that is blocking the the the left-hand lane. you will notice it is causing a delay beside it. traveling in the the norristown area be mindful of that fire location and it is affect something buses.

thursday morning. zach marino shows our diana rocco where this bullet entered, ricocheted off a closet door and landed the floor. at first zach says noise woke him up but then he just went back to sleep. he a had this message for the shooter. >> they almost murdered a kid, almost murdered a child because of the recklessness. >> investigating incident radnor police discovered this street sign. it is outside family's home with two bullet holes in it. they are asking if anyone heard or saw something that night to give them a call. philadelphia police need public's help to catch a man who used a fake grenade to rob a bank. you can see it in his right-hand in these surveillance pictures. police say he threaten the teller yesterday at susquehanna bank on walnut street near rittenhouse square in center city. officers found the grenade about a mile away and after bomb squad check it out they

realized it was fake. and take a close look at this man on a pay phone, wanted for calling in a bomb threat to the montgomery county courthouse in norristown last week. police said he made the call from 7-eleven on main street in west norriton. the courthouse was evacuated to are about two hours but there were no explosives, erika. ukee, the national debate over whether measles vaccine should be required or optional is spreading just about as fast as the out break. there are now at least 131 cases in 14 states that including pennsylvania, new jersey, and delaware. yesterday, lawmakers grilled cdc official about measles and vaccinations during a house hearing. they testified that the measles vaccine is safe, it saves lives and children should be vaccinated. the cdc also confirmed that the measles out break originated at disney land in california. you can learn more about the measles vaccinations and latest on the the out break at our web site at cbs philly.com ukee. well, philadelphia may be ready to make mandatory paid
