brown. we're talking about the warmth before the storm. meteorologist justin drabick is tracking this for us from the cbs3 weather center and he joins us now with his first forecast. hey, justin. >> good evening, natasha. temperatures a few degrees above average in many spots across the delaware valley. check out dover delaware, the high today 49 degrees so we're getting close to that 50-degree mark. chilly up in mount pocono at 33 but we can't complain about mid 40's across most locations today. here's where we are right now. still not bad outside. 42 degrees in philadelphia, 37 millville and atlantic city, 30 in mount pocono. we have some clouds over the region. those clouds will help keep our temperatures up a little bit tonight so certainly not as cold as it's been. mid 30's quakertown and doylestown this evening. here we go. storm scan3 part to mostly cloudy skies tonight. you can see snow breaking out across the southern tier of new york state. that's the cold front that we'll wait to sag southward. that's our next storm and it's going to bring some wintry precipitation to parts of the area especially lehigh valley and the poconos later sunday night into monday.

so a winter storm watch will go into effect late sunday evening through monday night for carbon and monroe county. these locations best slot to see a mix of snow, sleet freezing rain with a light to moderate snow accumulation depending on how cold the temperatures get. even wintry weather is expected south of the mountains. tomorrow no threat of any wintry precipitation. 48 degrees for a high for philadelphia at the shore, mid 40's we'll see some rain arriving late in the day for the poconos before we see the changeover. now coming up in that full forecast we'll talk about the milder temperatures tomorrow then monday's storm who sees snow, ice and how much and when. that's all coming up in a few more minutes. natasha. >> thank you so much, justin. stay one step ahead of the weekend forecast with our cbsphilly weather app. you can track live radar and a lot more its all free for you. it's available now on google play and itunes. developing now the fate of american humanitarian worker kayla mueller is still unknown. isis claims mueller was killed in the jordanian air strike in syria but the u.s. says there

is no evidence to support that claim. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette has more. >> reporter: friends and family of 26-year-old kayla mueller still don't know if she's alive. isis claims a jordanian air strike hit this building and the aid worker from arizona is buried beneath. jordan has launched a number of airstrikes against isis in its strong hold of raca after the group released a video sh showed militants burning to death a captured jordanian pilot but isis offered no further proof mueller is dead and also said no militants were killed in the bombing. jordan says the claim is proper began today. the u.s. defense department said saturday that the target was a known weapons storage compound and there's no indication hostages were held there. mueller is the only known american hostage still being held by isis. >> i am in solidarity with the syrian people. >> reporter: she came to syria to help in the

humanitarian crisis and was taken hostage in 2013. >> one of those folks that looks for the good in everything. >> reporter: mueller's parents say they're hopeful she's still alive. meanwhile the attacks against isis continued. coalition aircraft conducted 11 airstrikes in syria and 15 in iraq friday and saturday. wendy gillette for cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> the investigation continues into the cause of a fast moving fire in philadelphia's frankford neighborhood. chopper three was overhead as flames ripped through a one-story building on the 1600 block of foulkrod street friday night. investigators say the building was not occupied at the time and there were no injuries. also authorities charge a driver with d. i in connection with a crash on the roosevelt boulevard. at least three cars collided near fox street in nicetown just before 3 o'clock this morning. philadelphia police tell "eyewitness news" the driver who was charged with dui also suffered a broken leg in this

crash. and another candidate joins the democratic race for mayor of philadelphia. doug oliver announced his candidacy in germantown today. >> to make all the difference in the world so when i look at the city of philadelphia i think it's time for a fresh set of eyes. a different point of view. if we as a city want something other than what we've already gotten then we need to do something other than what we've always done. >> reporter: oliver is a former aide to mayor michael nutter. oliver will be running against former city councilman jim kenny, former d.a. lynn abraham, state senator anthony hardy williams and former judge nelson diaz in the may 19th democratic primary. delaware has a new class of heroes ready to help to keep our community safe. today 19 new recruits officially graduated to -- the 38th fire academy. some of the department's top brass were also there to say a few words and to thank them

for their service. and some special recognition for hundreds of local scouts. the archdiocese of philadelphia held the annual scout mass this morning for those who have earned their religious emblem over the past year. bishop michael fitzgerald was the principal celebrant and homilist for the mass. afterwards a ceremony was held presenting each with their new medals. happening right now, just one win away, so very close. philadelphia university's legendary coach herb mcgee is getting another chance at career win number 1,000. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is in east falls tonight with some exciting details. matt. >> reporter: natasha, i have good news to report to you. coach herb mcgee just won his 1,000th game as head coach here at philadelphia university. the game went final within the last 20 minutes or so, final score rams 80 over the team from post university with 60. we have some video to show

from you inside that gym and as you might imagine it was a rocking place to be. the rams took on the team as we mentioned from post university in what can truly be described as an historic game for coach herb mcgee after only what can be described as a legendary career. it began as a player back at the school in the early 60's and then in 1967 mcgee became the head coach here and has never looked back. along the way mcgee has become a legend wrapping up 31 20 plus wins and by winning 80 straight home games between 1990 and 1995. he's even helped numerous nba stars improve their jump shots over the years enough so to earn him the nickname the shot doc and back here live outside of the jim, it is quiet out here but certainly it was a fun place to be as you can hear that gentleman right to my right. the students even rushed the court at the end there. the coach actually was inducted into the naismith

become hall of fame in 2011. now another mark of a fantastic career. for now we're live outside philadelphia university, matt rivers, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> congratulations are in order. thank you so much matt. we appreciate that. you know, it was certainly a well deserved surprise at least for one local high school basketball player. today becca brown, a junior at kingsway regional high school got the chance to start for her varsity team in its annual coaches versus. she's won her battle to get back on the court. >> the whole experience taught me to like not take anything for granted and just be thankful for those that you have. it feels great just to know that i -- they were the ones that helped me and that we're playing for the people who can't. that's what this game is for. >> after months of radiation treatments she was officially cancer free.

last saturday brown was found unresponsive in a tub in her home. los angeles county sheriff's office says former olympian bruce jenner was in one of the cars involvedly in a three vehicle crash that left one person dead. jenner was not hurt. the crash happened on the pacific coast highway in malibu. another powerball rollover has a lot of people here in the delaware valley dreaming of hitting it big. the jackpot is now up to $380 million for tonight's drawing. that's the highest it's been in more than a year. people have been flocking to stores all over the place to buy their tickets. the odds of matching all six numbers in the multi state lottery are about one in a hundred 75 million. now we will have the winning powerball numbers for you tonight on "eyewitness news" at 11:00 so stay tuned and have your tickets handy. a lost excitement leading up to their grammys tomorrow night and with this year's list of nominees it's sure to be a night music fans will not soon forget. cbs news correspondent susan marquez gives us the closer

temperatures we had today reportd from our weather watchers. hal in collingswood new jersey coming in at 45 degrees, john in glasgow delaware 47. out in lawrenceville new jersey peter checked in with 46 degrees today. jason in middletown delaware coming in at 49 degrees. in philadelphia 49 degrees temperature. james in ocean city at 48 degrees and aj in moorestown 45. now, we are talking about our next storm system coming in sunday night into monday. that's going to meet up with some cold air with some wintry weather returning. it's looking like winter up in there poconos right now. some decent conditions. live look at big boulder rider now. temperatures not too cold, not a bad night for some skiing and riding. looks like we'll see some fresh snow coming up from our next storm system. but compare the temperatures to this time yesterday we're about six to 14 degrees warmer so that's that warmer air that has moved in this weekend. it's to set nell for another 24 hours and we'll see the change again.

from the current temperature in philadelphia, 39 in reading but just to the north there's that arctic air trying to push southward, 27 in albany, 34 in scranton. there's a cold front up here an arctic cold front that's going to slowly sag southward and bring some moisture in here later sunday night into monday. there it is. still hanging outer across new york state tonight so we're going to keep it dry with just a few clouds all the snow remains confined over new york state. parter to mostly cloudy skies for the delaware valley. later tomorrow night the front will start to sag southward and we'll get some precipitation in here. so, here's the setup. again tomorrow mainly dry just some clouds, another mild day, highs in the mid to maybe even upper 40's. the front will come southward later sunday night into monday. we'll see a mixture of some rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow basically from the lehigh valley to the poconos for philadelphia, mainly rain but it is possible that it does end as a little bit of light snow coming in later on monday as the storm moves off shore. again, this whole storm system will bring light precipitation to the region but still north of the city there could be some icy spots. so, let's break it down for

you. late sunday night rain showers arrive from north to south. and then on monday mainly rain for the city but you go north and west to the lehigh valley poconos, you'll see a mixture of freezing rain and some sleet and then that moisture could end as a little bit of slight snow later on monday afternoon into monday evening. not expecting any accumulation here for the city. could be a coating or so up into the lehigh valley with a few inches in the poconos. so here's what's happening. let's time it out. sunday afternoon just clouds, it's dry another mild day. here we go 10 o'clock sunday night. notice some pink showing up in the poconos. that could be a mixture of some sleet, freezing rain and then rain as that moves southward. again not a lot of coverage with this precipitation. it's going to be light. off and on showers at times. monday morning there could be some icy spots, lehigh valley poconos. there you go later in the day there could be a brief changeover to some light snow before the storm is gone later monday evening. so let's talk about that ice potential. again north and west of the city could be a couple hundredths of an inch of ice. there could be slick spots for

both the morning and evening commute north and west of the city on monday but overnight partly cloudy, not as cold, we drop to about freezing for center city. tomorrow another mild day mostly cloudy, 48 degrees for the high temperature. and here we go with the extended forecast that rain comes in here on monday. could see a light wintry mix to the north. high temperature near 40 degrees. then we cool it back down again for the end of the week. 38 on tuesday, clearing skies it's windy. wednesday 40. could be a few flurries thursday with highs in the upper 30's. then look at that shot of arctic air by the end of the week. friday saturday 20's for the high temperature. it will be windy. at least it will be sunny but it's cold. >> oh, boy. >> all over the place with this. >> at least it will be a little bit of a break. >> enjoy it for another day. >> thank you justin. appreciate. that lesley. >> we told you earlier in the newscast philadelphia university's herb mcgee making history today joining the 1,000 win club. this game a convincing win for the rams they defeated post 80 to 60. the hall of famer has has been head coach at philadelphia
