♪ we begin night with eye on the storm coverage. winter returns and it brings with it messy mix that could cause a rough monday for some of us. temperatures will fall throughout this night and freezing is going to be a real concern. good evening thanks for staying up with us. i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. let's get right over to meteorologist kathy orr in the weather center tracking the timing on this storm. kathy.

>> timing will be everything as far as the temperatures are concerned. and the time of precipitation right now before that precipitation falls we have another issue it is the fog and as we look out our weather window typically we see the beautiful skyline of philadelphia. not tonight. visibility is down and poconos only three terms of a mile. in philadelphia it is down eight tenches of a mile the same in atlantic city. trenton 1 mile visibility and as we take a closer look in our suburbs northeast philadelphia and quakertown down to half mile visibility. along 95 through northeast philadelphia you are going to be seeing reduced visibility as well. now, on storm scan3 we're seeing in rain filling in our radar for philadelphia we'll start off as rain as we take closer look in the poconos seeing freezing rain and some sleet and as that colder air moves towards the south, we will see a change over from light rain to freezing rain lehigh valley and northern and western suburbs even possibly philadelphia by tomorrow morning's commute. still 37 in the city. 35 in allentown. but below freezing in the poconos.

winter wet advisory in effect for most of the region until 6:00 a.m. tuesday. the reason why we will see this precipitation lingering into tomorrow afternoon and even tomorrow night. so rain will change over to freezing rain especially north and west during the morning hours. and then light rain freezing rain and even sleet to the north and west with light snow north and west for philadelphia, we'll see freezing rain later in the day and by the time this all ends tomorrow night rain to light snow and a mix much that's how it will end. the best chance of seeing any icing will be not north and west of philadelphia through the lehigh valley and the poconos. coating to an inch of snow to the north and west of the city. more accumulation into the poconos as you head toward the north and the east. coming up we'll talk about our next snow chance more arctic air and justin is in with the probable of any big snow for the rest of the winter. the atmosphere is changing. he'll have update. chris, we'll zen it back to you. >> kathy thank you. >> stay one step ahead of the forecast it with the cbs philly weather app. you can track live ray dan and

police say jenner was driving the third car a cadillac escalade suv. investigators say the driver of a toyota prius stopped suddenly. then a white lexus slammed on the brakes and jenn are in's vehicle hit the lexus. >> bruce jenner's car when it struck the lexus the lexus went into oncoming traffic which struck the southbound h2 hummer and the driver of the white lexus was pronounced dead at the scene. >> reporter: jen they are publicist says the celebrity wasn't injured. the part of the malibu highway where the crash occurred is narrow and twisting. and authorities say even though there is a possibility paparazzi may have been following jenner, they don't believe that factor contributed to the crash. sources say a vehicular manslaughter investigation will focus on everyone involved in that crash. not just the olympic gold medal winner. jenner has made headlines because of rumors he's considering a gender transition. he's currently a co-star on the reality series keeping up witness kardashians.

>> according to authorities jenner cooperated with investigators on the scene and pass add field sobriety test. news tonight a woman has come forward claiming that bill cosby made unwanted advances but she says she refused them. helen gum pell claims she was in the comedian dressing room on the set of the cosby show when he handed her drink stood in front of her and made lewd gestures. cosby canceled shows at a boston theater not far where a sunday press conference was held. he said it was the weather that kept him from performing. well more than a week after the daughter of the late whitney houston was found unresponsive in her bathtub bobbi kristina brown remains hospitalized. details on her condition are scarce. but in a major development the celebrity website tmz is reporting authorities launched a criminal investigation into this case. cn inform reports that investigators are focusing on brown's boyfriend nick gordon and that brown had injuries that need explanation. saturday mark the three-year

anniversary of whitney houston's death. she, too, was found in bathtub on the eve of the grammys. social media posts become motivation for a crime according to philadelphia police. armed men broke into a home early today in the northeast demanding items featured on the victim instagram and facebook page. the victim posted photos of rolex and other injuries and a note tow of himself with hundreds of dollars in cash. three masked men kicked in the door and demanded specific items. then they jumped out of a second story window before police arrived. >> we her the glass all fall, and then you heard them scream screaming get out of the house x run! >> definitely somebody affiliated with them. they had to be. >> they know where they live. you're telling them what you have. it's like inviting them in. >> anyone with information about the suspects is urged to contact police. tonight powerball mania is gripping the nation with no winner last night and the jackpot now at $450 million and

tests have come back and they are negative. the health department says there's no public threat but still they you were parents to have their children vaccinated. a spirited debate in lower merion today. some residents demanding answers after two groups of black men were stopped and questioned by police while shoveling snow in the community. those incidents drew a lot of criticism on social media some claiming they were cases of racial profiling. township officials held a public meeting to discuss race and police relations and it didn't take long for things to get heated. >> i have a problem if my children are being stopped by the police and we live here. >> we reviewed our statistics on this particular issue of solicit soliciting. nine out of 10 calls come from our residents. people sitting in this room. >> reporter: because the men did not obtain the proper permits the officers have been cleared of wrongdoing. >> if you're up this late you've been watching the grammys watch did you think of the show. i loved it a lot of fun

in weather tonight we have areas of fog before that precipitation moves in. usually we can see center city philadelphia but not tonight. the view from campbell's field obscured with poor visibility and that is really the rule throughout philadelphia and its suburbs. to the north we have some icy concerns. our "eyewitness weather" watchers are saying temperatures are falling quickly especially to the north. look at the south, though, through south jersey, some temperatures still in the upper 30s and 40s at this late hour. david is reporting in light wind out of the northwest at 2 miles an hour in clementon. temperature of 42 degrees. but it's much different as you work your way to the north and west. chuck is saying in perkasie the temperature 32 degrees. that's just about it right now it's cloudy but we are seeing some changes in the weather and one of the changes that we are seeing are conditions that are getting rapidly more moist. you can see right here on storm scan3. precipitation moving in from the

west and as you move toward the north, we are seeing some icing in the poconos and that will work its way south over the next couple of hours with colder temperatures. take a look right now. this is what we expect overnight. the showers will be arriving freezing rain changing over to snow north and west. there are some icing concerns there. a coating to an inch of snow in our suburbs. toward the lehigh valley up to a tenth of an inch of ice and icy commute especially in our suburbs you can see that precipitation tapers monday evening. so our advisories go until tuesday morning. even in philadelphia could be seeing the precipitation ending as an icy mix. ice and snow in the poconos. rain changing to freezing rain and snow even in philadelphia could end as a little wet snow. and mainly rain through south jersey and delaware. we're talking about a big change that will be coming after this. in the wake of our storm system, we'll be seeing some colder air slowly work its way in for tuesday and for wednesday. after that, we will watch an area of low pressure really send temperatures crashing.

you can see a huge dip in the jet stream late thursday with another shot of arctic air moving our way. but this doesn't necessarily mean a big snow this winter. in fact one of the things we look at nao and they say no to big snow. here's justin with more and that that. thanks a lot kathy. to get a good snowstorm here in philadelphia, a lot of ingredients have to come together, and we just haven't seen that so far this winter. one of the factors we look at is the north atlantic oscillation which is currently in its positive phase and it's been like this all winter long basically it's just an air pressure pattern in the atmosphere typically you have an air of hoe pressure off the east coast, low pressure over the grade lakes. with the high pressure in this area, it doesn't act as a blocking high pressure. it doesn't lock in the cold air. it doesn't slow storm systems down everything is fast moving and very progressive you have your storms which are basically tracking in from the west they're faster weaker less moisture and the cold air is farther to the north. that's why new england has been getting hit hard with these

snowstorms over the past few week. so so far this winter in the positive nao phase we've been dealing with no blocking high pressure systems. so fast moving systems the lack of cold air just doesn't last long here in the middle atlantic quickly moves out every time a storm system comes in, and certainly we've been seeing storms develop late off the coast so they miss up and impact new england and the forecast for the inform ao it looks like it stays positive through the rest of february. meaning a less chance for big storm. but it will get cold and for more on that forecast we'll zen it back to kathy. >> thank you very much, justin. overnight, foggy once the showers move in the fog will dissipate. the low testimony cher 36 in the city. colder air filters in during the day tomorrow. we'll see some light rain change to freezing rain north and west during the morning commute. even philadelphia could see some patchy freezing rain. and then the precipitation ends late tomorrow night and most locations should see either a little icy mix or snow at the end. tuesday doesn't go that low. but the temperature only 38.
