darkened stretch along the the track, reginald green was about to allegedly attack and sexually assault a woman he had just met outside of the station, and who had agreed to accompany him, into the isolated area. >> not a spontaneous attack, this was not precipitated after some period of time that the two individuals were together. >> reporter: police say after green and the 27 year-old victim had spent half an hour together she entered an elevate the or with him to the platform level. then slipped away with him into the darkness, where a short time later she was viciously attacked. >> she suffered some pretty severe injuries to her face, to her eye, to her mouth, and other bodily injuries. the individual, the offender, attempted to sexually assault our victim. >> reporter: police say the the area where the attack occurred is off the far end of the platform here at the jefferson station, away from where any riders or anyone

else in the station might be. police declined to say what green, whom sources say made a full confession to the crime and his alleged victim, were planning to do inside of the tunnel. but, police say septa cameras captured the suspect on video and septa officers quickly recognized him, as a suspect that they had stopped or cited 28 times over the past five years. >> he has got 11 prior arrests including an indecent assault, at least one indecent assault. >> reporter: police say they have now taken green's dna to determine if he was involved in other assaults. at jefferson station walt hunter for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". septa meanwhile has increased the number of officers it has patrolling the transit system. well, pennsylvania governor tom wolf was in our area today promoting his plan for a new tax on natural gas companies that he would use to help fund education. governor tour caln elementary from thorndale chester county as a kick off to his schools that teach tour, where he outline his plan. the governor is proposing a 5 percent severance tax on natural gas drilling companies, which he says could lead to as much as $1 billion each year in revenues for the state and specifically the school system. well, after he made that announcement to day governor wolf sat down with "eyewitness news". he joined me for an exclusive one on one to cover a range

of topics, first up here commonwealth's $2.3 billion budget gap and how it effects the governor's promise to revive public schools. do the realities of what you found in harrisburg make it less likely that money is going to flow as quickly or as freely to schools as you may have hoped as a candidate. >> well, no, it is a false economy to decide we're not going to invest in something that could produce real return for us. and the reverse is also true. if we don't invest adequately in education we will have a economy that continues to decline. >> so you don't feel you have to prioritized deficit reduction over education spending. >> i have to do both. neither one is elect i have, i have to deal with the deficit. i have to deal with education funding. >> reporter: the governor believes today's proposal of a 5 percent severance tax on natural gas drilling will will go a long way toward meeting the the needs of public

schools generating as much as a billion dollars a year. he a says he know it will be a challenge to pass legislature but the current political climate demand it. >> i believe people believe we're in a crisis. we have a big structural budget deficit over $2 billion. we are under inn resting in public goods like transportation, education. that is just not going to work for a long time. we may be republicans democrats, senators representatives and governor but we are all pennsylvanians and that one thing we share in common i think will make us do things differently in this session then we have otherwise done. >> how soon districts like the district in philadelphia expect some of these promises that were made during the campaign to starting realized, things like smaller class size. >> keep in mind i was elect governor, not dictator. we will all put together something that end up a as ultimate budget i hope by june 30th and i will reveal the answer to that question

three people. tonight we are hearing from the family of the suspects. forty-six year-old craig hicks appeared in court today. he is accused of three counts of first degree murder for the the shooting deaths of three muslim students at a condo near unc chapel hill. police say that hicks gunned down a husband and wife and the woman's sister. hicks ex-wife says that he was not motivated by race. >> i cannot say it was my belief that this incident has nothing to do... but in fact was related to the long standing dispute that my husband had with the neighbors. >> this is new video of one of the murdered students, he created this video to help raise money for syrian refugees who need dental care. philadelphia police are looking for, two suspects in the robbery and shooting in olney. police say two men pulled handguns on a man near second street and ol will any avenue last friday. when the man ran the suspects

shot him in the back. if you have any information on them, please cat the police. well future of atlantic city's former revel casino is uncertain once again. deal to buy revel fell a court in federal bankruptcy court today. reporter david madden from our sister station kyw news radio had has more from camden. >> reporter: florida developer glenn straub wanted more time about a month to see how appeals filed by revel's power provider and operators of the hq nightclub played out. revel's attorney maintained he has zero confidence that straub will close on the deal in the short term. >> there was no additional time to close. they had to close by monday. they had every opportunity to do so. they didn't. >> reporter: all of the other parties sided with revel, bankruptcy judge gloria burns asked straub point blank if he would close in a day or two. he said no. the judge ruled against an extension. >> the case law is that unless these words are in the contract there is no urgency in closing.
