late. so maybe curl back underneath those blanket hit snooze. there are dozen of other closings and delays for you at the bottom of your screen and at cbsphilly.com. we will be dealing with the snow for a little while still. storm scan3 here, showing the system blanketing our area. >> good morning everyone, i'm lucky, i got the vong straw this morning i'm coasting in the studio, ukee, you got the short part on the skydeck. >> how did that happen? who do i have to talk to? >> not me. >> i saw those young people running up the stems of the art museum not too long ago before we ended our last show. and that looked kinds of fun. juan dollars to come checks things out family, you have to slow your roll. the snow continuing to come down here on the skydeck on railing i see about two 3 inches, out here, already and here on the platform t looks about the same. maybe even a little bit more. so, i know when i drove in today, on the drive that usually takes about 25 minute or so, it took me close to an hour to get in. so, it is definitely coming down around the region. but i understanded, katie, it
6:01 am
is supposed to move out or start to move out around 10:00 or so. is that correct? >> that's about right. depending where you are you might see it, little sooner, little later just as we watch the back edge of the system move in from west to east. so, yes. i would say the west most counties pocono region, lehigh lehigh val, further north and west, the later the snow will be but also, you're going to end up seeing it end lit more quickly here in the locations glancing blow by comparison what we will find through the southeastern tear of the region. talk about what's going on out there. let's get you first and for most out to storm scan3 continues to bring in the heaviest snowfall right now through new jersey, sussex county, delaware, we've been picking up pretty good snow. yes, there is no back edge to it, but we've been seeing it snow now for awhile, at pretty decent moderate clip. these allowed us to accumulate quickly. more than anything just the very light fluffy variety of snow. this is the snow we've seen
6:02 am
thus far in bryn mawr, already over 5 inches, wood side pick up four and a half, 4 inches even in merchantville riverside, three and a half. the list goes on, williamstown, 3 inches even. again, these are so far for our totals. on the roads this morning well, you have have red yellow and green light. real at this only get better with time. so the next few hours are critical. that you have to just slow it down out there. and ukee made real good point. you need to allow the time. you are going need it here with the steady snow still falling down. it will be slick. you're still going to be dealing here with some very slow travel with the snow still coming downment quick check on the temperatures, it is definitely coal enough for it to be strictly snow everywhere. but, depending on location, that's really the thing. depending where you are, you will seymour or less, and we will talk more about how much we have seen, how much more we expect, as we progress through the show. but dow want to send it out to meteorologist, justin dray brick live in the mobile weather lab with a check on how things are looking at any given moment. how is it looking rightful, justin? >> reporter: good morning,
6:03 am
actually middletown delaware right now where i would say good solid 3 inches of snow is on the gown, now the good news is it looks like steady snow has come to end. just few flurries, back edge of the steady snow has moved through middletown, delaware, so we should see improving conditions through the next few hours. but you can see still snow covered roads. this is route 299 heading toward middletown delaware, traffic starting to pick up in intensity, but still pack down coating to an inch of snow on the road. use your best judgement, temperature right now 16 degrees, so this is not going to melt any time soon. that's why it has a problem with the plows to keep up with it because the temperatures are so cold, snow just accumulates so quick. but at least the snow has ended. that's the latest here in middletown delaware, we send it back to the studio with jessica. >> thanks, justin, good morning. yep, definitely the words of the day here, slow down. slow down. slow down. leave enough space in the car in front of you we heard ukee say i will earlier takes 20 minute trip, year they are
6:04 am
morning, takes about an hour speeds are definitely low. pretty much all across the board, all over the bridges as well, down to 25 miles per hour but first we start things off on the blue route right around conshohocken, a loft accidents this isn't rare site for so far this morning. and the northbound lanes, you can see tractor-trailer, on the right hand shoulder there some crews on the scene trying to help him get out of the way, as everybody merges single file and very, very slowly crawls down the northbound lanes of the blue route. not doing too much better on the southbound lanes of the blue route as well different accidents popping up all over there too. on the 42 freeway in new jersey see little volume actually a lot more cars than i actually thought would start to pop up headed toward the center city area or the area bridges. southbound lanes real now problems. but we do have accident out in new jersey on 295 southbound approaching warwick road. ukee, back over to you. >> thanks so much. making sure roadways are safe for travel is the reason why new jersey officials have delayed opening state office this is morning, until 11:00 a.m. >> essential employees should still report on time though. our team three coverage
6:05 am
continues right now with "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo, she is out in clementon, camden county, good morning, jan. >> reporter: erika ukee, good morning, the snow continues to fall plow trucks continue to be on the road. and as if on cue clementon plow trucks now just fuel up, got cup of coffee maybe and headed back out on the road. that's good news in these parts coming from fill toy south jersey not very pretty you guys a loft cars had their blinkers ongoing very slow. we did see new jersey, dot plow trucks on the roads they're trying to get the street cleared off. with the snow still falling it just accumulate once again, so people have to take it very slow until all of the snow can get off street. some people though are calling it a day already. i caught up with one man who left his house drove for a mile, and encountered these types of conditions, and said: you know what? i'm calling it a snow day. take a listen. >> reporter: i came out of my street. i see the snowplows hitting the side street, pretty heavy still. i think i will ' turn around,
6:06 am
head on back. >> snow day. >> yep, snow day. >> and maybe if the kid has a snow day they'll be encountering in a, as well, light snuff i snow, 3 inches and growing in clementon maybe up to 4 inches. the snow is still falling. definitely if you do have to go to work, build in extra time because it is very slive are you out there. reporting enough clementon jan carabeo, "eyewitness news". >> okay, jan thank up. >> snow day. >> you know what, that might be "cw philly" snow angel term. we'll have to see. >> we have to see on the "cw". >> thanks, jan. talk to you later. >> oh, those plows you saw them in jan's life shot, driving through the philadelphia manayunk neighborhood too. >> are they keeping up with the snow in here's "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch checking out the roads for you. justin, good morning. >> reporter: ukee, erika, good morning, main street looking so much better now. but look at how the difference is between the street, the plowed street, and the snow here. that's really high angle of snow right there. if you look over here at the side street here, it is getting there in terms of being clear with more drivers
6:07 am
out on the roads the snow is breaking down, making it more clear for drivers. but to show you how the snow appears to slack up here, still falling very steady, we watched the guys just completely shovel this sidewalk off here. about a half hour ago the snow's already coming back down. so we have very steady snowfall falling in manayunk, drivers and walkers be aware out here. you want to be safe. this stuff is powdery and loose and very, very easy to lose your bearings perhaps fall or be in a car accident. we spoke to a guy here earlier who drove into one of the hills through manayunk, he said it was quite dangerousment take a listen. >> reporter: -- >> take it slow, try not to lay on the brake too hard or else you are losing control. >> we've seen that over and over this morning not only the shoveling, but drivers over estimating how clear these roads can be out here. we saw quite a few drivers swerve and slip on the sidewalks, be very, very safe making your way around this
6:08 am
morning, especially here on the hills of manayunk. live here in manayunk, justin fin. cbs-3, "eyewitness news". justin, thank you. now that snow is also starting to affect travel in the skies too, if you are flying out today, listen up, philadelphia international airport reporting 126 flight concellations, and 11 flight delays just this morning. so you want to be sure to check your flight status before headed out if you plan on flying out of philadelphia today. as i always say, better to check from home than wait at the airport. when away from your tv keep your eye on the storm with the cbs weather app. follow live radar get the updated forecast, download the app on itunes, and google play. our team coverage of the winter storm continues all morning long for you. >> the mobile weather lab is hitting the road as well to check out the conditions across the areament please make sure once again to allow plenty of extra time if you had to head out today. there are speed restriction on the highways and bridges. so you know how we roll. slow your roll. we'll be right back.

6:12 am
>> mike denardo from sister station "kyw news radio 1060" has been cruising around all morning long checking in with us. mike, where are you no now. >> berlin, point in every storm where the road crews are able to get the upper hand transition, on the road surface, from slippery, and snow covered, to slushy, where cars can make it through. well that transition hasn't happened yet. the roads are still snow covered. and they're slippery. it is a powdery very dry powdery snow, that's easy to brush off your car. but because it is so cold, it is also making the road surface very slippery. if you go faster, than 25, 30 miles an hour, and you try to stop or make a turn, you are going to feel the back of your vehicle fishtail. then that is couple of time, so taking it easy, doing about 30 35 miles an hour tops, this morning because it is not safe to go any faster than that. >> mike,, judging from your
6:13 am
shot i'm starting to see some of the dividing lines a little better. how much has that improved? >> little bit. yes, these are the first white markings that have seen on the road all morning we're here, in berlin, and just saw a plow train come through here. but for the most part, the roads are still snow covered. and you are not going to be able to see those markings, and every driver for him or her sever out here. >> got that right. >> are you seeing many drivers on the road in the last hour say? >> here in berlin, it is not too bad. it is not that congested but certainly, on route 42, 295 yes, you have the plow trucks and a lot of drivers on the road. that's where we saw things moving very slowly. >> mike, we and everyone at home appreciate the update. thank you my friend, we will get back to you. >> type do it, man. >> talk to you soon. >> needless to same, very busy morning in the weather center oh yes. >> absolutely. yes, so, with what's happening
6:14 am
out there right now, i have to show this shot. i know you're not going to see very much, but that's kind of the point. outside palmyra cove nature park in the distance usually see the center city skyline. you can tell there is precipitation falling from the sky. it is snow. certainly, cold enough for that but light wind at least snow is wind driven snow but really is reducing your visibility, at least further away across the delaware, and that said, still finding some pretty decent snow coming down here. we've done very well, essentially through the north and western suburbs outside of philadelphia, four, 5 inches in the spots totals continue to come in. there is back edge to this, that's the good news, so as the morning progresses this will all start winding down. we are still going to stand good chance to pick up six to 9 inches through this dark blue corridor here, the southeast most counties, in our area. but four to 6 inches, definately going to happen for philadelphia county, delaware county, at least lower bucks and eastern chester and montgomery counties. but the further northwest you go totals get reduced a you didn't have as much snow, b didn't snow long enough for to you pick up much more than.
6:15 am
that will all gone again later this morning went winter weather advisory all go out of effect and we'll have clean to up do. then look ahead to wednesday few flurries, snow showers but i don't expect it to accumulate. then just stuck in the freeze again for thursday and friday. jess, over to you. >> thank you katie. yes, having pretty serious situation out on the blue route a loft incidents really across the board. definitely weather-related than is what we are dealing with through the predominant part of the morning. see one lane on the blue route right around conshohocken, northbound lanes due to tractor trail their actually lost control. another vehicle seems to be involved, police activity on the scene, they have set up some road flares, see single file lanes getting by, some cars keeping proper distance, but some you can see speeding up. we want you to keep the distance between you and the car in front you. that will keep you safe. ninety-five around cottman avenue, you can see the southbound lanes here really starting to jam up. pretty early headed toward the center city area, snow covered roadways there as women, so take your time out there.
6:16 am
back over to you. >> thanks so much. you can count on cbs-3 to key you up to date on the winter storm. >> seems making up for lost time, snow coming down four hours, shows no time of stopping any time soon. at least follow in the the morning commute is over. if you need to go out today allow yourself extra time, if you can hey work from home, maybe take a snow day. we'll be right back.

>> getting a lot of wintery pictures from your neighborhood. post withing hashtag cbs-3 snow. asking to you keep those pictures coming. sends them to us on facebook, twitter, instagram, once again, hashtag cbs-3 snow. >> well, drivers should give them themselves extra time before hitting the roads snowy commute plus ice from the cold weather yesterday underneath all of that. >> that's right watch is it 15 now? like three yesterday at this time. yes, justin drabick out in the emments in the mobile weather lab keeping close eye on the weather conditions, jd, good morning, man. >> reporter: good morning, guys. actually middletown, delaware, where it is 13 degrees, better news here, though. we will see improving conditions but this is what the neighborhoods are looking like, we were showing you the main roads heading down here, 95 495 route one they were snow covered. and i would say good solid three to 4 inches of snow that has fallen here in milled town delaware. now the plow has come through earlier. but it certainly got covered again. so neighborhoods slow go, you can see some of the cars, kind
6:20 am
of plowed in little bit. so you'll do some shoveling. good news, is, the night fluffy powdery snow, so easy to brush off your car maybe just sweep it off. so we don't have to deal with the heart attack snow. that's a good thing. again, key thing this morning temperatures just so cold that the snow is able to quickly accumulate. so the plows they've been on out full force trying to keep the roads clear but just couldn't keep up with it, as the snow quickly accumulated. but now as the snow has ended looks like we should see improving conditions. how much, though use caution and if you can, you know, delay your commute by little bit. you can see the guy right here actually shoveling his driveway right now. so that's a good thing right now. the snow has come to an end. so probably has job with the light fluffy snow. key word, extra caution delay your commute if you k that's the lateness middletown delaware. back to you in the studio. >> you got t neighborhoods side streets yes probably getting a lot right now. >> and tough to keep one it, it keeps coming down. >> but as jd said, slowing
6:21 am
almost stopping down there in delaware. several school closings and delays, you can find all of that information at the bottom of your screen, of course at cbsphilly.com. >> at the break economicking in with katie updating the forecast all morning long for you. and jessica last a check on those roads. we do traffic and weather together on the 3's. we'll be right back.

dave: the effect that standardized testing is having on our students is already coming through, it's already showing, and they haven't even taken the test yet. my first-grader came home the other day and cried, because he couldn't - he didn't feel like going to karate practice. after he was done with his work, he said, "mom, i'm just tired," and started to cry. in first grade. what are we doing? what are we doing to our kids?
6:23 am
>> let's check our traffic and weather together. here's kate which your forecast. >> yes, guys, going to continue to deal with the snow as you've been saying for the next couple of hours even as we just heard from justin dray brick, some spots where we are beginning to see it actually wind down. so that's good news. we can take you on out there. show you couple of current
6:24 am
totals. these will likely change little bit here. ocean view, florence township, royersford, toms river couple of inches on the ground to shovel away leer of the light fluffy powdery variety. notice little bit of back edge to this, already starting to move in, across our west most suburbs central delaware maybe lingering flurries, snow shower in those locations, but the moderate to steady snow is basically going to be winding down for us so, say in the next half hour or so, but again from west to east. so might be with you a little longer the further east you reside. but the snow will continue to taper off. no later than lunchtime if he absolute latest. this is completely done for everyone, but probably no later than say 9:00 or 10:00 are we pretty much done with. >> this see how the radar pans out. we think it is moving along at pretty decent clip here, not before it leaves a mess to clean up though. 28 degrees the expected hi, skies begin it gradually clear this afternoon by tomorrow fresh burst of arctic cold comes in, we hit 30, before that but there will be some late day flurries, or snow
6:25 am
showers, that do come in with that. don't worry about accumulation. more than anything, that arctic front will be responsible for our next nose dive on the thermometer jess? >> thanks, katie definitely if you can leave little later get to work little later and delay your day just little bit, that would definitely be in your best interest to miss part of this storm and part of the accident, really starting to occur all over the place you can see tractor-trailer on the scene here, another vehicle involved in this accident with police activity on the scene taking out almost the entire right-hand side of the blue route only one lane getting by. only good thing we have going for us here, that there is not much in the way of volume trying to get past the scene. but volume that's coming through, coming very slowly, nice and far apart and in single file. over on 95 right around the walt whitman bridge, we have disable vehicle seeing a loft disabling vehicles pop up, people swerving little bit of out of control. some cars facing in the opposite direction. these are the southbound lanes on 95, you can see definite slow going people with their hazards, flashers as well. definitely good thing if you
6:26 am
are feeling little nervous okay to pull over as well. over on the roosevelt boulevard, accident, on the southbound lanes, right around pratt street taking out the inner drive. skooch on over to the outer drive to get on by. erika, back to you. >> coming up in the next half hour of "eyewitness news" live team three coverage of the snowstorm continues jan? >> erika, 3 inches and counting here in clementon. camden county, new jersey, this morning i'm jan carabeo coming up take a look at the road conditions, as well. justin? >> reporter: roads can be tricky a -- tricky and treacherous, we'll show you how they are digging out live. >> as the snow covers the grounds, we have you covered as you head out the door. katie has your forecast. jessica is looking at the roads. we have some messy spots right there as you can see. we will de traffic and weather together we'll do it together, back at the bottom of the hour. see

>> good morning, if you are just waking up the tri-state area is blanket in the white. this is live picture for you right now from south jersey, expect steady snow to fall during the morning commute. just horrible timing. oh the philadelphia now with the the snow is covering slick roadways sidewalks, already icy from the cold weather, in the last couple of days, remember how cold it was yesterday morning. now, today all philadelphia public and archdioces schools are opening two hours late. so not completely off the hook, but do get to sleep n
6:30 am
dozens of other closings and delays, and we have those for you at the bottom of your screen. and, storm scan3 showing that system right over our area, right now. now, the snow not expected to clear out for a little bit longer, and what's so funny about the storm it seems like the people that normally don't get the snow are getting the snow. in the poconos exactly. >> yes. not a total but probably 3 inches max out of this, very minor event for them by comparison what we found through southern new jersey what we are still finding it there. i've been calling it an upside down cake. we are on the bottom with the pineapple and chair, where it is going for you no. >> now we're hungry. >> sore bye that. >> back to the snow. >> yep, we do want to time everything out for you. you will notice that there is a nice discontinuing back edge to this. so, it is going to be a matter of i would say few hours until we're totally done with it. but yes, you can see that progression. that fizz link away over the last couple of hours and we zero in on this. yes, still seeing some pretty moderate snow, at least northeast bound on 95, jersey turnpike headed up toward the
6:31 am
new york area. but there is the back edge, and starting to hear reports from some of the field crews namely justin drabick, just down in delaware, saying, things are done for him. he's seen the snow finally wrap up. so if it hasn't already done so for you we are still going to find the steadiest snow and the heaviest continue from now for another half hour and that will generally be when the worse is taking place with continued snowfall. but it will be tapering. and then i would say probably no later than the tail end of the typical morning rush. basically done with t so the road crews can get out there get ahead of this as much as they possibly consideration clear everything out so that the p.m. rush, i guarantee is going to be better than with a we're finding out there now. winter alerts continue in effect in fact winter storm warnings have actually been expanded now to include eastern chester montgomery as well as lower bucks and philadelphia and delco counties but they will expire at 10:00 a.m. so that's actually little sooner than they originally had been posted for because again, there is back edge to this already visible on the radar. as we go throughout the day today no better than the upper 20s, low three's for
6:32 am
philadelphia, down the shore again, the further east you are, down toward the shore see the snow wind down, the latest but as go up to the poconos, erika said it, you get kind of gipped this time around. yes, early flurries out there and for maybe some of you still finding just little bit of light snow continuing to fall and ac ate late. overall you are the ones that end up with the least of the worries out of this fick system. we do want to get check on how things are looking out there right now. we send things taught meteorologist, justin drabick live once again in the cbs-3 mobile weather lab good morning, justin. >> reporter: good morning, katie, that's right on route one south again headed toward smyrna, delaware. and i am proving conditions here. now the steady snow has come to answerment looks like that back edge has moved through southern new castle county, and latest update from del dot says the major roads are passable. you can see that, it is mostly better, you can see actually see little blacktop now showing up. now as the snow has ended road crews are able to get on top of this little bit more. we don't have to deal with the
6:33 am
snow quickly accumulating back on because it has ended. side roads different story. it will take some time. good solid three 4 inches of snow on many of the side roads, and the grassy areas around . >> and, thank you justin, little bit after 6:30. we're outside actually on the blue route where we're dealing with quite a bick bag up from earlier accident here, where you can see, they have police activity on the scene ready to clean that up. you can see cars actually completely stopped and single file lane, right behind the scene, tractor-trailer on the scene, there is definitely some crews there, you can see police activity, another car involved. and that is becoming pretty serious situation the only good thing we can possibly pull from this, northbound lanes of the blue route is that there is not as many cars
6:34 am
trying to get to where they need to go. so far this morning but otherwise we see major delays there. also major delays out on 95, you can see some slow going disable vehicles over to the shoulder. ninety-five, southbound, northbound lanes still moving along, but slowly, as well. just because of these snow covered roads and slippery conditions. we also are dealing with lower speeds here on all of the area bridges, betsy walt, ben commodore barry all down to 25 miles per hour, and l del memorial bridge lower and reduced speeds there as well. as for mass transit, these are all of the detours for the septa bus so that's dealing with a loft things right there. the bus 35, is currently suspended, no problems for new jersey transit all running on time, on or close to schedule, the patco speed line running on a snow schedule. ukee back to you. >> jess, thank you. we have information in. >> philadelphia public schools just learned are closed today we first heard two hour delay now philadelphia public schools are just closed for the day. >> and no word yet on archdioces schools but as soon as that comes in, stay tuned, we'll definitely let
6:35 am
you know. philadelphia public schools closed today. time is 6:34, if you are non-essential employee for the state of new jersey you can sleep in a bit this morning. >> that's because governor christie delayed opening state offices until 11:00 a.m. essential work verse report on time 11 room hopefully get the roads cleared out in time. more with team three coverage, jan carabeo joins us from clementon, camden county, any improvement on that area? >> erika ukee, good morning slight improvement. not snowing quite as hard as it once was but roads though, don't look like they're improving at all. here to talk a little bit about the morning commute, my friends, erik johnson he said hello to me. i said, you know, you say hello to the reporters on tv you'll be on live tv. how are you doing this morning? >> doing fine. >> how do the roads lock? >> little trouble at this moment. little salt on the road, but not as much, we need more salt on the road right now. >> we did see group of plow trucks come through about half hour ago or so. but obviously with the snow still falling, still pretty
6:36 am
tough watch was it like driving steering wise? >> turn the corners, still casino of in a zig-zag mode. but other than that, still tough out here right now. >> so if you didn't have to drive, obviously you're going to work, would you rec other people come in delay it a little bit so the trucks get back out here? what would you recommend? >> i recommend delays right now. >> do you like the snow? >> i love the snow. >> do you? >> i love the snow. i wish i could go play in it but unfortunately i have to go to work. >> what about the cold we had yesterday? 10 degrees warmer today. it feels splendid out here to me. >> actually the difference between yesterday and today today is summertime compared to yesterday. >> i would have to agree with that. eric, thank you for being on our show, get to work safely, please. >> and you can just see the accumulations we're talking about here in clementon this morning. we got about 3 inches, 4 inches, i casino of like smashed down this area, but, definitely a lot of accumulations here, the roads accumulations, as well as the snow plows. try to move through and get them cleared up for the morning commute. reporting live in clementon
6:37 am
jan carabeo cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> i'm eric, today's summertime, yes indeed. thanks so much. >> well, on snow days like this manayunk's hilly terrain just such a challenge for drivers. >> yes, and that's where our storm coverage continues now, with "eyewitness news" reporter justin fin: justin, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, just spoke to local earlier. he said the hills are still pretty treacherous up there go, slow on that, not hit your brake too hard, so as not to lose control. but here on the gown, main streets here, looking so much better than it was earlier, as you can see cars are going up and down main street here, we can see the blacktop out here, it is looking much clearer than it was before. side streets over here, though, they are not quite as clear, though, that is still a work in progress, this morning. when the plows do go by, they're not dropping salt. this appears to be just to be a plow job this morning because the snow is so fluffy, soft not very icy underneath. sidewalks here in manayunk,
6:38 am
