. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> if you somebody have to be outside today please layer up. waking up to near record lows and dangerous cold. it is friday, february 20th good morning i'm ukee washington. >> i'm erika von tiehl. all delaware public schools are closed today. there are even more closings for you at the bottom of our screen. you can check your child's school at cbsphilly.com. >> we have team three coverage of this dangerous cold, january car bay know south jersey where people are braving the bitter blast. katie, you start us off, good morning. >> good morning, guys, this will ends up being one of the coldest days we've had not just in a long time but certainly we may have ever seen. so it will be one of those really really just type of

day that can actually be dangerous to be out in. it is understandable that some of the schools are already closing down because of the cold. but, that said, at least skies are quiet, don't have to worry about any stormy weather for now, moving forward, that's also going to be changing. so let's talk about it, let's get you on out there. storm scan3, all clear for now, seeing the tri-state sweep being made. just couple of clear skies for you at this point. as we move forward in this forecast, generally going to find plenty of sunshine, but wind that starts to kick in, already out there in fact, that has allowed windchill advisories to remain in effect through the overnight really until 11:00 a.m. region wide. windchill warnings posted the only reason you don't have any colors over the counties, up in the poconos but those are warnings up there advisories for everyone else, windchill values bottoming out ten to 20 below zero. very cold air combined with winds, that's already cranking as high as 15 to close to 20 miles per hour sustained out of the northwest. so that is just a bad

combination. these are the records that we have to beat in order to actually at least tie records. but, here's where we stand two below zero what we would have to hit in allentown, zero atlantic city, philadelphia, one, have to hit five in wilmington, seven in trenton. how are we doing right now? pretty darn close already folks. zero already in allentown reading, and lancaster, up in mount pocono, your actual air temperatures, not feels like values, nine below you're currently at three wilmington, millville, atlantic city. coming awfully close some time before the sun comes up. looking forward in the forecast, 16 the best you can hope for on the thermometer in philly, do if the go by the numbers, my friends again, do you have factor in the wind, which will continue to blow for us here, throughout the course of the day. and we're shooting for high of 8 degrees, in the poconos. guys over to you. >> katie, thank you. the cold is more than just dangerous it, can be deadly there. have been eight deaths reported in the area over the past few weeks. five in montgomery county two,

in lehigh county, one in berks county officials say it is important, very important to check on those most vulnerable during extreme cold weather like. >> this our team three coverage continues with "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo. >> she joins us in blackwood camden count which more on how people are coping during the bitter blast. good morning. >> reporter: erika, ukee good morning, all gritting our teeth and trying to ride the winter weather out. i think three shirts, three pants, coat, not enough here this morning in blackwood, new jersey hovering around 3 degrees. you can see the winds blowing my hair around, blowing the tree around mind me, it feels a whole lot colder. it is serious cold you need to prepare for. >> this frigid weather keeping workers busy fixing broken pipes, heaters, we caught up with one company that's been on the go non-stop, trying to keep people warm, delivering the precious home heating oil. to get the most bang for your buck. they suggest setting your

therm storm at 68 degrees, putting on auto so heater won't run all day when you lever the house. common sense. also busy, call centers like philly, 311. operators are dealing with a lot of people concerned about not having heat as the mercury continues to drop. those centers are doing their best to help get people out of the cold. take a listen. >> what we do is say, you know, get to safe place, if you have a neighbor, family or a shelter that you can get to that actually has heat and warmth, to get there because with these record breaking cold temperatures, we don't want anybody out there who is, you know, in a cold house on top of already frigid temperatures. >> and it is frigid out here this morning. i think the winds is blowing tears from my eyes. i am really cold, but i'm not crying guys, just use common sense. layer up headed out the door. really just limit your time outdoors if you have to be outside today. reporting live in blackwood new jersey, jan carabeo

however, if you are traveling in delaware county, right really at the delaware state line, 202, southbound, closed, as a result after accident, between baltimore pike and marshall road. best alternate is route 100 that's creek road. traveling amtrak, they're running on modified schedule because of the freezing temperatures. erika? >> vittoria, thank you. we have breaking news right now from north philadelphia. a man has been found shot to death in his mercedes at 27th and filbert. police say he was shot several times. a "eyewitness news" crew is gathering more information at the scene live report for you coming up at 5:00. >> a fire in philadelphia's kensington neighborhood has critically burned a man police say the man accidentally set himself on fire while doing drugs on the 3100 block of reed street. firefighters got the call around midnight, that fire was under control in about 15 minute. well, developing right now, philadelphia police are looking for two suspect in the murder of a limousine driver in olney. the driver was found shot to

death at the corner of mascher and tabor road around 9:00 last night. the limousine then hit a telephone pole, investigators found four bullet holes in the passenger window. police have not ruled out robbery as the motive. police also say the limousine driver worked for a company on rising sun avenue. >> now, this is the second limousine driver killed in philadelphia this year, mikael ramirez of of the la premiere company shot and killed during cobbs creek robbery january 3rd. authorities have charged alonzo dilliguard for the murder. >> also, "eyewitness news" uncovered new details of recent super bug outbreak at philadelphia hospital. it is similar to the one that would just service ucla medical center in california. according to documents obtained by "eyewitness news" eight patients at the unnamed facility were infected with the deadly cre bacteria last year. two people with underlying conditions died. that outbreak is linked to ercp endoscopes used for

procedures on the pancreas and liver. that same instrument has been blamed for the infections at ucla. the health department will not say which philly hospital had the outbreak. >> no one is telling us anything. we're not able to compare the quality, and as a result, hospitals can cut corners not necessarily consciously, but they can cut corners because they know they may not be held accountable. >> laurence says that even if an endoscope is properly clean after a procedure it can still harbor and transmit the super bug. the pennsylvania state health department says it does not track the casino of infections linked to the outbreak. the hospitals do not have to reveal that information. >> well, new castle county police and victims families will be asking for the public's help to solve a series of murders today the latest happened monday at the rosehill community center in new castle. killgo shot while recording music, other shootings happened at the brookside community center and the

woodland park amounts. >> also happening today, thon weekend begins at penn state 46-hour dance party that raises money to fight pediatric cancer. always a great event t kicks off tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the bryce jordan center. it probably relatively speaking used to it. but for anybody that is headed out extra heavy layers, i don't care if you're running from the car to the offers. this will be one of those mornings where again ukee said it, dangerously cold outside. and, you know, i always say i put my serious face on whether we are talking about this kind of thing i want you to take care of yourself, be sure that you're bundled up adequately. show you what's happening not heck of a lot. that's part of the problem. get the nice clear skies and that only allows the thermometer to drop that much more readily through the early morning hours. so, even though you have got clear sky we lend up with full sunshine here today it, will regardless, be absolutely frigid. now, you have heard the rumors about the upcoming weekend storm, they are true, still not looking like heck of a lot to track at this hour on storm scan at the wider zoom, certainly not. area of low pressure that develops across the mississippi valley will join up with colder air, those two pieces come together to create the next storm system, which does look more than anything

like it is going to have just ton of moisture with it, so, as it moves in, it is mainly, i would say tomorrow afternoon, we see some snow moving in, generally from west to east. and then we'll probably even pick up an inch, maybe up to 3 inches of snow, before the warm air surges in, and allows that freeze to completely turn over to rain. that also goes for the poconos, so while you may see accumulating snow, a lot of it will get washed away through the overnight hours of saturday, into sunday. now, here are your current feels like values. this is how it feels outside folks. these are the numbers to go by. fourteen below in both philly and trenton, 32 below in mount pocono yes dangerous is the word for this kind of cold. technically we'll hit 16 degrees today. you can't go by that. factor in the winds at all times. we'll see windchill advisories expire at 11:00 a.m. this morning, thankfully the wind eases up, still cold tonight. easing up even more so through sunday, 45 balmy degrees by comparison on sunday, we'll still have some rain to deal with, then things are clearing out, i would say no later

we'll know more sometime later today. >> the flyers inducted eric dejardin into the team hall of fame before last night's game with the sabres. them the game would go to a shoot-out. the flyers struggle in the shoot-out, brian flynn got the game winner, and buffalo wins it three to two. fly guys get a point but they're still six behind pit burying for the last playoff spot in the eastern conference. well phillies pitchers and calf ers have their first workouts under their belts. pitcher cliff lee is in camp consulting a magic eight ball when asked if he want to be traded. >> i don't know if i want to answer that. >> if you could tell me right now, ya, you have an opportunity to play on the world series championship team i absolutely i want to do that. >> well, right now he's with us ace cole hamels mass made it clear he want out. a lot of players in cam already. the entire team due in clearwater by tuesday. and once again, at the game

>> reporter: yes apple is reportedly going from iphones and ipads to electric cars. the tech giant has secretly been working on a car and according to bloomberg the goal is to start production by 2020. so that would mean apple would compete directly with tesl a and automakers planning to release an electric car in 2017 that can go more than 200 miles on single charge, and those cars would cost under $40,000. wondering if it would be called the i car. >> no kidding probably. >> interesting stuff. >> how about that? >> wow, thinking big. jill apple is not the only company branching out. youtube's new product? >> well, on monday, youtube will be rolling out new kid-friendly app that will have lots of parental controls, that not only will be able to limit what kids watch, but also, how much time they can spends watching. the apple reportedly includes original episodes of shows like thomas the tank, and sesame street. we will know more on monday,
