lk interesting your car to your work. now, because of this extreme cold, all public schools in delaware are closed today. there are also dozens of school closings and delays, at the bottom of your screen. >> we have team coverage of the bitter blast let's start with katie outside on the skydeck, and she can tell you first-hand how cold it is. >> well, it is not good, i can tell that you, it does in the feel good out here at all to be out here even for couple every minutes, not going to be pregnant. any time the winds blows it, will make it feel that much more harsh and that breeze is certainly evident, luckily at least, where i am standing right now although every time i say that it usually starts to pick up. went isn't terrible right now, but i want to show you what things are locking like out on storm scan3 pretty calm overall, say for the winds which again is making it feel awfully vicious outside. but at least the skies are clear, so you don't have to worry about precipitation on day like this. but, as we head into tomorrow, that's going to change. we do have high pressure on our side to keep us in that sunshine, as the day progresses, but the sun not going to help very much.

here we stand we're in at one below zero your actual air temperatures right now mount pocono, nine below zero, 2 degrees in trenton, two in atlantic city, three in wilmington. you get the idea. it is bad enough that these temperatures are where they are right now. made even worse by the fact, that we do have the winds to contend with. now, windchill advisories, remain in effect, folks until 11:00 this morning region-wide. the only reason you're not finding them in effect across the poconos because they're actually windchill warnings for you up that way. but we expect these windchill values to remain anywhere between, say, ten and 25 below zero here, through the course of the morning. so, that is dangerous cold to be out in, folks. and i really, really feel for the folks that have to work outside, perhaps the crossing guard, that kinds of thing for the kids that are headed to school. but, keep in mind, that you will need sunglasses, too, it is a bright and sunny day that's what we're looking ahead to here. 8 degrees, the expected high in the poconos up to 16 degrees both down the shore and philadelphia. now, once we head into the

weekends, new storm brewing so we will have more details on that as the show progresses, but for now got to send it into vet tore y because i'm freezing and i need to step inside. >> common, in katie. you know you were describing -- when she was describe wag to wear basically, we need a snow suit that sips all the way up to the face with eye holes and sunglasses, that sounds like the type of temperatures and how we need to prepare ourselves for today. on the roads well, you're going to want to definitely head out of the house a little earlier to heat up the car. check your fluids. we see disable vehicles all the time. in extreme cold, and extreme heat, and do you want to make sure you're doing whatever you can to prevent that from happening. now, in regard to the rush hour we're not seeing anything just yet. so, very pleasant, volume-wise, 5:02 this morning, not seeing any delays on 95. this shot around cottman avenue. really doesn't matter where you're traveling on 95 entirely really, maybe you're headed out of new jersey, maybe headed down toward delaware, no problems, area bridges looking great. if you are traveling amtrak, running on modified schedule because it is still so cold,

erika? >> all right vittoria, thank you. >> this dangerously cold weather has also turned deadly. it is being blamed for eight deaths, in the last few weeks. five people have died in montgomery county, two in lehigh county, and berks county is reporting one death. all of the victims were older than 60 years. delaware chester, bucks county, not reporting any cold-related deaths this year so far. our team coverage takes us right now across the bridge over to blackwood, camden county, new jersey, that's where we find "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo with how people are handling this extreme cold. jan, you have how many layers on? >> reporter: three pants three shirts, hat scarf gloves, if i could wear a ski mask erika i would do that, too, but not too tv friendly out here. everyone in this area is moving quickly they're running to and from their cars getting coffee, trying their best to stay warm. you have to prepare today, if you don't you're going to be in some serious trouble. these are serious temperatures here in blackwood, new jersey.

it is 3 degrees and the winds blowing at us, so feels even colder than. that will you know what? this cold weather even means big business for some people. they've been very busy, fixing broken pipes and heaters we caught up with one company that's been on, that's been going non-stop, trying to get people, trying to keep people safe, to stay warm, rather, delivering that precious home heating oil. now, to get the most bang for your buck, they suggest setting your thermostat to 68 degrees, and putting on auto so, you know, your heater won't run all day when you leave the house. also busy, call centers like philly 311. operators are dealing with a lot of people concerned about not having heat, as the mercury continues to drop. these are all issues folks here in south jersey can't wait to be rid of as they stop here for cup of coffee, looking for anyway to stay warm. take a listen. >> my car got heated seats i'm good. this cold air. >> just got one layer on, i'm getting out of the car and into work.

"eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is near the scene to tell you all about it. justin? >> reporter: ukee, good morning. yes, it happened about 12:30 this morning as you can see behind me here. police are hold that scene see that cop car in the street on silver, and to the left that far car the mercedes where the shooting took place this morning police are --

police are slim at this time but they know they are looking for killer semiautomatic weapon. in the dark of night and frigid cold, a man left for dead. about 12:30 a.m., witnesses heard gunfire, and dialed 911. police say the victim is 39 years old and was shot at close range inside of this mercedes park near 27th and silver streets. >> he was suffering from gunshot wounds to the face, and head. based on crime scene evidence we know that seven shots were fired through the driver door window found seven bullet holes. >> next, declared the man dead at the scene. meantime investigators combed the crime scene for clues. some evidence that may lead them to this man's killer. >> the 39 year old victim is the registered owner of this 2010 mercedes benz. right now we do not have a motive for the shooting. >> reporter: looking again at

the scene, live this morning again, no motive known yet for this shooting. police are talking to witnesses, and they appear to know who the victim s they are just not giving out his name at this time. we are live in north philadelphia, justin finch cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> justin, thank you for. that will developing right now, philadelphia police hope surveillance video will help them track down the person who shot and killed the limousine driver. police believe two men gunned them down at the corner of mascher and tabor road in olney. it happened around 9:00 last night. investigators are looking at robbery as a possible motive. >> new this morning philadelphia police say a man doing drugging accidentally set himself on fire inside a rowhouse in kensington. that fire happened around midnight on the 3100 block of reach street. the man suffered burns to two thirds every his body. we're told he's in critical condition. >> a plea from police and victims families today to help solve a series of murders in new castle county. one of them happened on

monday. jamar killgo was shot while reporting music. police are also investigating murders at the woodland park arts and the brookside community center. police in chester country looking for this man, he is accused of robbing a 17 year old boy who was change ago flat tire in new garden township. the attack happened monday night and the boy was barely conscious after the attack. the robber stole some money and credit cards as well. right now it is 5:08. and a philly former great shares big news about his health this morning. also: >> you all happy that my wife looks like an animal, and my son, there is the animal. >> a very angry husband lashes out after police arrest a teenager wanted for a road rage murder. now the victim's husband reveals a new twist in the case. nicole? >> and ukee, super bug outbreak at ucla surfaces right here in philadelphia. coming up the details of a recent outbreak that far same deadly bacteria. >> also, get ready to freeze

>> two car cab crash has sent two to the hospital. live look at the scene on the corner of 63rd and chestnut. crash happened shortly before 3:30 this morning. they must have been going at a very high rate of speed. police say the 50 year old cab driver was trapped in his car for about 20 minutes before rescuers were able to cut him out of the vehicle. his arms, we're told, are fractured, but is in stable condition this morning. the driver of the second vehicle has minor injuries, from the airbags. no word on what led to that crash. 5:11 right now. as health experts in california continue to probe a super bug outbreak at ucla, "eyewitness news" uncovering details about recent outbreak

of the same deadly bacteria right here in philadelphia. "eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer joins us now with the latest on this health watch investigation. good morning. >> good morning to you, err day. yes, eight people were infected and two with underlying conditions, actually died. so, as you can imagine healthcare professionals extremely concerned about the super bug outbreak, otherwise known as cre. now, the same deadly infection as you mentioned, now being investigated at ucla. so what exactly is causing it? well, according to experts we spoke to, a certain kind of endoscope used to diagnosis and treat blockages of pancreatic and bile ducts, apparently it has a moveable mechanism called a forceps elevator which allows doctors to manipulate tiny instruments, that can't be cleaned. well, the endoscope hasn't been taken off the market, and here in philadelphia, the health department is refusing to name the local hospital where it is presumed that instrument was repeatedly used. now, we spoke to an infectious disease consultant who says the situation is

unprecedented. >> never before has a re-usable instrument like this in a setting ever been linked across the country to so many outbreaks, so many injured patients, and so many deaths. >> now in los angeles, 179 patients have been notified. they may have been expose today that super bug. here in philadelphia, where there have been more confirmed cases, there is absolute silence. cbs-3 has repeatedly asked the philadelphia department of health for more information. they have not responded. erika? >> nicole, thank you. >> right now 5:13. we want to get right to katie. these are some dangerously coal temperatures we're talking about. >> they certainly, are yes. this will be one of those mornings really just the day in general that you real dow need to pay attention to how adequately prepared you are when you walk out the door, okay? so make sure that everything is covered as best as it can be. even if you're just going to be taking really short walk from your car over to the office door, as you walk in this morning. that is enough that you will notice the difference, and i can absolutely a test to that, having been out on the skydeck for what was it three minutes

an accident, closing the white horse pike westbound at crosskeys road. your best alternate 73 and be mindful that far amtrak running on modified schedule. erika? >> thank you vittoria. updating breaking news this morning, one man was shot to death inside a 2010 mercedes near 27th and silver streets? north philadelphia. so far there is no word on the motive. police say at least seven shots were fired. >> also, this morning limousine driver crashed into a pole near mascher and take err in olney. and investigators say he was likely shot and killed before the crash. police are searching for two suspect. and, one man is in critical condition after a fire in this row home on the 3100 block of reach street in kensington. the victim has burns over 65% of his body. >> your time is 5:16. and a big pay raise for hundreds of thousands of workers who is get that raise and also, how much more money they'll make. >> sixers shocker. the team trades two of its promising young stars even surprising some of their

half million wal-mart workers are about to get a pay raise. starting in april, the retailer will pay new entry level workers at least $9 an hour. that's almost $2 more than the federal minimum wage. current workers will earn at least $10 an hour. wal-mart says it is trying to recruit and keep better workers. >> 5:19. time to check your philadelphia job market report. here's cbs news business analyst, jill schlessinger. >> if you are thinking about whether or not to continue your education beyond an undergrad agree, consider this. the national unemployment rate, 5.6% through the ends of 2014. but those who completed bachelor's degree, or higher, were in better shape, with a unemployment rate of just 2.9%.
