5:00 am
on all of the majors, even take a look at the area bridges. >> this shot here the ben franklin bridge, pretty nice outside. doesn't matter where you're traveling on the majors, because things are so quiet. how much, off of the majors, specifically, if you are traveling in northeast philadelphia, at least not too far away on harbison, dealing with pretty serious incident, we were talking about it off the top, that vehicle, gone into firehouse. more details on that in just a bit. ukee? >> vittoria, thank you. back to the breaking news in northeast philadelphia, there is a huge mess left behind after a car crashed right into a firehouse. >> it is engine company 52, medic 32, at van kirk and harbison. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us right near the scene. justin, good morning. >> reporter: erika ukee, good morning, right now the clean up now underway. take a look behind me. you will see to my left here, that's the unit that was badly crashed into just hours ago and to my right is the replacement. these are brought in when these units here, can no longer be used so here's what happened. just before 2:00 a.m. this morning, the chief here tells me a car, an acura tl, on
5:01 am
harbison somehow hopped the curb, lost control and crashed into this garage, which was closed at the time. we had video that far car to show you now in pretty bad shape. there was only one person in that car just the driver, he was able to self-extricate himself. that is, he was able to climb from the front seat, driver seat, through the back, out the back door, to be assisted by the firefighters who were working here of course they heard the crash, and sprung right into action. this guy crashed right into not only this medic unit here, but also, oxygen tanks. had to drop special material to stop the potential explosion or worse at the fire station, that man is now at the hospital. and back out live this morning, they are repairing the garage here at 52, trying to get things operating as normally as possible, this morning, but this is a big scar for the crew here this morning, and luckily that driver they say appears to be okay. as for what caused the crash they can't see at this time. i did ask perhaps if he was
5:02 am
impaired or any other thing but they say at this time they want to make sure he's okay. they have no idea how he lost control of the car and caused this crash behind us. live in northeast philadelphia i'm justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> justin, thank you. a woman attacked in philadelphia, in the middle of the afternoon and only "eyewitness news" cameras were there when police arrived to help her. we have some exclusive video here, and we're concealing that victim's identity. police say she was maced and then robbed of her smart phone. this happened at 18th and north street in spring garden yesterday. that robbery and assault is the most recent of six in the spring garden neighborhood this month all believed to be linked. >> safe neighborhood, i mean, we all -- i feel very safe walking around here most of the time. so i think it is unusual. >> now, this video released by police shows four teenagers wanted for questioning in a beating and robbery in the same area on february 20th. police say they may be connected to yesterday's
5:03 am
incident. coming up on 5:03, it is finally friday katie. how is it looking this morning? >> definitely cold outside erika. we have that going for us again. i mean, that's really what this month of february has been known for. and it will go into the record books, as one of the coldest we've ever seen since records began. however, we're also got little hint of activity, little blush on the radar for you here on storm scan3, you can see how things have sort of blossomed right on the tail ends. see how it all turns green? i have a feeling that that's just a busted up frame. it is too cold for us to be seeing any rain right now. when we take a look at area temperatures, you will understand, it is very chilly outside. not terribly windy, but look this is the 24 hour difference from yesterday. 22 degrees colder in wildwood. katie understanded why. really because we had a storm coming in yesterday so all of the clouds had taken over the skyline, and that meant that we had essentially blanket overhead to keep us from dropping out or bottoming out too much. but now, we have generally clear sky all things considered, and that has allowed us to get back to the teens, the 20's, even single
5:04 am
digits depending on location. notice the winds direction. that's why you're seeing flurries out, there folks. don't worry about it being a sign of anything big tow come here today. generally once those flurries wrap up, as they will, through the course of the afternoon here, we can expect to see some sunshine, 30 degrees, as we look ahead to the afternoon, so, it is a chilly day for our area for sure. temperatures at best, again upper 20's, flirting with 30, that will be about the best we can hope for. vittoria? >> are we done yet? are we done yet with this snow? >> no. >> okay, i'll take it, i guess. that's our only choice. good morning everyone, traveling right now, we're not dealing with any major problems. i am catching flurries in some of the camera shots. this one not in particularly, this is the 42 freeway, if you are traveling in either direction of the 42, going to and from 295 the atlantic city expressway, 55 even, it is really fantastic. not seeing that northbound build up of delay just yet. oh, i did see a flurry. did anyone else she? tweet me if you saw t you saw too? okay, so we are seeing some
5:05 am
flurries in the shot here, not causing low visibility, still moving very well on the majors as a whole. we're taking you now to pretty active scene, if you are traveling in northeast philadelphia, you can definitely see the flurries in this. who let me step out of the way to give you better idea what you are looking at here, so as you are noticing, justin finch did great job liver on the scene of this breaking news story of the vehicle that's gone into the firehouse so if you are traveling at harbison and van kirk, expect to see some of this activity. let's head back toutiesting. >> torrey, thank you. we are learning more about the manna cools nadal the plot to join the terror group isis. >> close ties to philadelphia and delaware. 5:07 am
>> i shopped at the mall a l you walk by his stand every day. he fixes phones, he offered to fix my phone one time, and just knowing that it could be anybody, you know, it could just be something in -- somebody in your neighborhood just offering to be a friends. >> according to court documents, habibo also operated kiosk in philadelphia, however, authorities have not yet detailed which mall. reporting live in the sat center, jan carabeo cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> all right jan thank you. the department of homeland security won't shutdown at least for three weeks. house republicans have agreed short-term funding for the department while leaving in place the obama administration's immigration policy which they have vowed to repeal. the department of homeland security was slated to run out of money tonight. ukee? >> administrators at main line high school take swift action after finding racist graffiti scrawled on bathroom wall. the shocking discovery was made wednesday at radnor high school, delaware county. now, yesterday administrators address the student both nay general assembly. the school says it has also

5:10 am
largest, indoor flower show, in the country. this morning as you mentioned, getting sneak peak before it opens to the public tomorrow and runs through march 8th. really really exciting theme this year, as you mentioned at the movies, in fact, this display to my right here is based on fan asia, told mercer county college student came up with the theme then put it into place here at the flower show. this is just one corner of a really massive exhibit that's set to draw about quarter million visitors to the pennsylvania convention center. so huge, huge economic impact for our city i believe $61 million in terms of its economic footprint. we know that it takes $6 million to put on this show every year. and they net profit about $1 million for the pennsylvania horticultural society. so, a huge effort out here this morning. very very excite to go see flowers, in bloom. i know that you feel the same as i do, that we can't wait for spring, the countdown is on, and it certainly is feeling a little bit closer this morning. we send it back to you in the

lungs and become an even bigger problem. so he talked to me about xarelto®. >>xarelto® is the first oral prescription blood thinner proven to treat and help prevent dvt and pe that doesn't require regular blood monitoring or changes to your diet. for a prior dvt i took warfarin, which required routine blood testing and dietary restrictions. not this time. while i was taking xarelto®, i still had to stop racing, but i didn't have to deal with that blood monitoring routine. >>don't stop taking xarelto®, rivaroxaban, unless your doctor tells you to. while taking xarelto®, you may bruise more easily and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. xarelto® may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. xarelto® can cause serious bleeding, and in rare cases, may be fatal. get help right away if you develop unexpected bleeding, unusual bruising, or tingling. if you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto®, watch for back pain or any nerve or muscle related signs or symptoms. do not take xarelto® if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. tell your doctor before all planned medical or dental procedures.
5:30 am
before starting xarelto® tell your doctor about any conditions such as kidney, liver, or bleeding problems. xarelto® is proven to reduce the risk of dvt and pe, with no regular blood monitoring and no known dietary restrictions. treatment with xarelto® was the right move for me. ask your doctor about xarelto® today.
