4:32 am
volume. look at 95 right around cottman it is wet, slick and i would caution you to abide by speed sensors. which go lower than 50. speed sensors all over are still looking great. we have a case of flooding traveling in the too far from conshohocken closing front between balligomingo road and fey yet. many septa buses are detours. the patco running modified schedule, same thing with amtrak and new jersey transit is cross honoring. we have just got this in and heard that the philadelphia archdiocesean schools are close today n word on philadelphia public schools, as of right now they are still opened but archdiocesean schools are closed. 4:30. hopefully parents have time to rally the kid and figure out what to do. >> public schools, public schools have just closed as well so there you go. spread the war philadelphia public schools and archdiocesean schools closed in anticipation of our snowstorm that we are covering right now. our coverage continues in bucks county.
4:33 am
>> our jan carabao joins us from doylestown where it is falling but it doesn't seem to be sticking behind you rode seem slick. >> reporter: those closings coming in now because the snow is picking up. we are coming to you live from downtown doylestown where the changeover from rain to snow happened right around 4:00 this morning. that is interest section of main and state streets. you can see the the snow falling steadily, the intersection still looking good but this will deteriorate overtime penndot crew where is busy filling up the the trucks were salt. so far penndot has used 149,000 tons of the stuff second highest amount all time just behind last winter. crews began salting the road when it started to snow. since it was raining crews didn't pretreat the roads with brine because it would have washed away. they didn't want to put down salt for the same reason. we have seen salt trucks working, crews out and about. once there is an inch of snow
4:34 am
then officials say the plows will put their blades down. back out here live still quiet in downtown doylestown a very scenic scene, picturesque with the snow falling, roads in good shape around here but as this snow continues to fall we expect these road to get worse. be careful this morning. reporting live from doylestown, jane carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". time, location and conditions, and folks are writing in giving me the time and what is going on. >> yes. >> nicole says just rain in overbrook park. everything will be changing over very shortly. our team coverage continues from cumberland county. >> nicole brewer joins us from bridgeton, new jersey with the latest on the conditions there looking pretty bright still good morning. >> reporter: change over has not the hit south jersey just yet. right new we are dealing with a light rain a mist at this hour. i will tell you in the last half an hour since we have
4:35 am
been outside i can tell that the air is getting colder. so that may signal change over is coming soon. we're here off of route 77 where it intersects with route 56, a few cars out and about at this hour getting by without the any problem but of course, expectation is that this light rain will turn to heavy snow and fall again heavily at times throughout this morning and afternoon. a state of emergency has been declared here in the state of new jersey which means governor authority state officials to prepare, respond and eventually recover from this storm. state's mergecy management will coordinate with county and municipal operations and governmental agencies to get through this thing which will create hazardous travel conditions and cause power outages. is there potential when talking about this kind of weather. as a result of this information all non-essential state employees will have an 11:00 a.m. delay so offices will be opening up later.
4:36 am
if you live here in new jersey governor christie just encourages you to take it the slow, use caution out and about on the roadways and stay off the road if at all possible. give those crews plenty of room to do their jobs and give yourself plenty of room and cars as well just keep distance between you and other vehicles. that is latees from bridgeton cumberland county just a light rain expect to turn to heavy snow now back to you in the studio. >> nicole talk about an 11:00 a.m. delay. we have hundreds of school closings and delays this morning, including philadelphia public and archdiocesean schools. we have got word they are closed, so once again young folks hit the snooze button and enjoy sleep or stay tuned to "eyewitness news" this morning. >> i think i necessity which one they will choose between. we want to see your snow photos and videos. ukee is doing tlc, this morning. >> time, location and

"eyewitness news" reporter justin finch over at broad and jefferson justin. >> reporter: we are at 1501 north broad street, the unite bank of philadelphia a we are told that the cadillac white escalade was going north on broad and struck a dodge charger in that area and careened right in the front doors and window of this bank here. as you you can see preparations are underway to get that escalade out of here and into police custody. there were at least three people inside, that suv and all three running from the scene. no injuries to report here because the guys got away and person, the charger did in the
4:38 am
report any injuries. let's show you video of the scene moments after it happened here just after 2:00 this morning. you will see orange charger had front end damage and brought away sometime ago. inside the bank a lot of damage to tell but here. there is damage to the ceiling, doors atm is pushed well in the bank. had anyone been inside there would be injuries to report this morning. luckily there was no one inside at the time of the crash. let me take you back out live to the scene here and show you what is going on inside preparations are underway to get this suv out and into evident. we can see the license plate jmc-6987, a pennsylvania plate, no idea how this car got here was it stolen or anything else. we don't know that at this time. police are investigating the crash as well as trying to figure out who those people were inside. united bank is a local bank, three other branches including
4:39 am
this one here, this bank will likely be closed for some time. we are live from north philadelphia justin finch for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". still ahead this morning on "eyewitness news" we are tracking latest on that snowstorm hitting our area. lets look live at the road from the mobile weather lab. here's a live look at storm scan 3a long way to go before the snow moves out. we have tanya saying still raining in west philadelphia and in the looking forward to the snow. we have you covered, tanya, delaware valley katie has time line when we come back on the other sid
4:40 am
4:41 am
good morning. glad you are with us. the here's a live look the at these roads. they are expect to be treacherous for drivers and everyone is advised to stay off the road if you can but if you need to go out, as we say, slow your roll. our carol erickson is checking out conditions in the
4:42 am
cbs-3 mobil three weather lab and she will give us a a close look. how does light. >> reporter: so far, so good as they say but we know that is definitely changing. we will have to continue to monitor this situation. right now it is just rain. that is good. as we can keep more rain and less snow then we kept cut down on the totals but air temperatures are also coming down and we are seeing that decline especially through lehigh valley and points north of that we are right around freezing mark in a lot of locations, poconos dropping below freezing mark. up in quakertown we are right at 32 degrees. doylestown 32. all these temperatures are coming down and that will signal change over to the snow we are expecting from four to 8 inches a across the area. plenty of moisture associated with this one. temperatures yesterday and rain yesterday got rid of the a lot of the problem that we had been accumulating over
4:43 am
this winter. a a lot of that snow and ice has started to melt, only to find it refreezing as we go through the rest of today, and tonight, and then by tomorrow it will be so cold around here that anything that falls today that gets a chance to melt during some sunlight tomorrow will absolutely be frozen solid by the time we get into friday night because these temperatures will continue to plumet. it is wet out here but it is just wet with rain. we are finding ourselves moving to the north/northeast extension and we will be heading in that direction. that is where we will meet up with the snow and transitions around again and coming back and following this snow as it comes into new jersey and rest of pennsylvania, so today is changeable weather conditions at this point, this minute is not that bad out there in our area but farther north you go the worst it gets. the let's head in the studio with katie, you are doing a
4:44 am
terrific job katie. >> as are you my friend but as we go throughout the the day as you said it, further north west that is where worst conditions are but this is going to be a system that brings in the cold air. it bleed in across the delaware valley. everyone gets in on below freezing temperatures so everyone gets in on snow eventually. it is in the here yet. i took a quick peak on the sky deck it doesn't appear, even though it does on radar as snow flakes have gotten underway just yet but it is a matter of time. there is a few breaks in the pattern so you might have a little lull here and there across southern new jersey. don't let it fool you, lets show you the big picture. this thing is strung out. the it is all the way from the gulf of maine straight back to the gulf of mexico. thousands of miles covered with this storm and millions of people affect but i have to show you the good news. look at the west in the distance nothing which means high pressure will bill in and
4:45 am
that means we will have sunshine and quieter weather that takes grip for a nice long stretch of time. here's that eyewitness weather snow fall map of the general four to 8 inches is still the spectation for southern two-thirds's but we are highlighting a particular zone for sweet spot here. just from i-95 south east through northern kent county and across the bay in cumberland atlantic county and tip of cape may. you could have a higher end of that range up to 8 inches. the lets get through future weather. very obvious rain/snow line setting up here and it will gradually drop south with time here. we may see a change over. frankly further south you are the the later that will happen and bet are off that will be. we are jumping to one two three, four 56:00 p.m. and is there still snow on future weather. it will be an all day event. later tonight we will have clean up to do i but we expect
4:46 am
those temperatures will bottom out as a result. these are record to beat but we have a feeling you will come close in spots. we will jump to your seven day forecast because we have to show you good weather news. still very cold tomorrow but sunnies back and we will only see an increase on that day time high from here. vittoria back over to you. thanks katie. traveling out and about it is wet all over the place. it is wet slippery. it is than a interesting shot here at trooper and audubon. when we first opened up at 4:00 this morning we could see a really heavy shot of snow in this area. it looks like it tapered off but traveling in and around this trooper and audubon it will be slick and you will fine slush on the ground. lets move to i-95 around philadelphia international the airport. i saw erika tweeted over 400 flights have been already canceled at philadelphia international. you will want to check your a airline status this morning and i would say throughout
4:47 am
the day as things can change. the road in particular we are in the dealing with the problem. it may be just slippery but volleys in the a problem right now. so, all and all it is not awful. as we look at septa many buses on detour. route 102 trolley shuttle will busing, high water patco speed line modified, amtrak modifying, new jersey is cross honoring. keep it here, we have an eye on what could be the biggest storm of the the season. lets look live at ben franklin bridge. look at the the benny. snow is here it is coming, how much is expect to fall and when we can see it moving out. >> but first here's what is coming tonight on cbs-3. blank planning

4:54 am
we have an eye on the storm moving in the area. but this could be the worst snowstorm of the the season. it deponed whether it is rain or snow. >> absolutely, would i say if you are looking for window of better travel opportunity it is right now really. if you want to get a jump start head out the door right now in a lot of spots you still got just a rain storm right now. with that said as things continue to progressively get colder that cold air bleeds in our region everything will turn over to snow for everyone. i want to show you first and foremost on the view from rehoboth, thinks all rain on the boardwalk still. we have some ice on the edge of the board but generally speaking it was 50 warm for anything to have sincized over but we are starting off with just wet road for now. couple of sky opportunities from our eyewitness weather watcher network. we will keep them coming. we will have more updates then we do throughout the morning. we appreciate the early

morning risers. john has got a freezing rain here some sleet and gary, warminster has straight up snow. the just included for ed in chesterfield. we have a lull in the action. barbara is finding a mix. you can understand why. there is a lull that just rolled through atlantic county off to the northwest snow is taking over the majority of the map right now, and as we go throughout the course of the morning and afternoon we will see it all turn over to snow, still expecting a general four to 8 inches to fall in the southern two-thirds's of our area vittoria. >> thanks, katie, good morning everyone. just now from the traffic center i have to shout out to tim, letting us know that 70 flights have been canceled at philadelphia a international airport. seventy flights have been canceled at the airport. call ahead. that is for today. as we look at road conditions you will notice traveling on the roosevelt boulevard around fox street is not awful at all.
4:56 am
