>> this morning, flag are flying at half staff outside the 22nd district in north philadelphia. >> live at the scene with a look at how officer robert wilson is being remembered this morning. you might need few extra minutes to warm up the car this morning threatening record cold, frigid temperatures and ♪ forced hundreds of schools to cancel classes today. we'll check traffic and weather together on the 3's. coming up in just a bit. >> first though, philadelphia police officers are preparing to burr a fallen hero among their own ranks. >> officer robert wilson died in shoot-out at north philadelphia video game store. this morning two men are in custody. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us from second 22nd and lehigh with more. >> such a tragedy. it will be real hard today for the entire city of philadelphia and a family of this slain supplies officerment as you can see this scene remains off limits

today. officer robert wilson iii here at this store in north philadelphia buying a game for his son when he was gunned down. police say shots while trying to stop two people bursting into the store with the intent of robbing the place. the scene remains under investigation this morning. meantime, police have execute add warrant and recovered evidence from this house on the 1200 block of hollywood street. we're told this activity is related to the case. police also recovered an ak47 from the property. now, officer wilson was 30 years old and eight year veteran of the police force. he went into the game stop, at 22nd and lehigh, just after 4:30, thursday afternoon. >> he was in line and buying a game for his son who did well in school. two people came in, announced it was a robbery the operation err end gained, gunfire from both side. the officer shot nine times kept firing, until one bullet hit him in the head. now wilson's partner was actually outside, in the car

and responded upon hearing the shots. one of the suspect was shot in the leg and taken to einstein. the other suspect tried to blends in with the crowd. but was apprehended, as well. >> senseless levels, un except until this great city. our officers are valiant. our officers are strong. >> the last officer to die in the line every duty also from the 22nd district officer moses walker shot to death august 18th, 2012, after his shift, during attempted robbery in north philadelphia. and later today, a judge is scheduled to sentence officer walker's convicted killer, ralph yell jones, to life in prison. back on scene here in north philadelphia outside of the game stop, of course, this is still under investigation police not releasing the

identity of the two suspect now in custody this morning but they say they're known to police, one of the suspect had five priors, the other has at least one prior. and one of the suspect was on probation at the time of the shooting. we will continue to follow the story for now live in north if jan carabeo cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> jan thank you. first snow may be gone, but plenty of ice left behind. you don't want to let those treated surfaces fool you either, because it could still be very slick out there. yesterday. some 400 trucks out are out there, some 200 still on duty salt g and plowing, as women. we also saw the shovels were out, too. folks out there shoveling sidewalks, as they should by law, to keep them clear for you, this morning now no matter how clear it seems penndot said to take your time out there on the roads this morning. have to be careful exercise extreme caution and make sure they're going slow enough so won't hit icy patches. check for black ice. >> first thing, knock off this ice and snow off of your car the more do you it, the more comes off. you don't want that flying off on the roads either. and again, there is black ice out here, all kind of unseen hazards, that you don't want to meet until you hit them. so be careful. and also, watch your surroundings. live in east falls justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness

news". >> watch the roadways, katie out there with the freezing temperatures, good morning. >> absolutely. we look out here on storm scan3, what you find is nothing going on, which, you know really good news. mean we're in for quiet weather, as the day goes on, as the next couple of days go on. >> under nice clear skies, temperatures had chance to drop off more readily. here's where we stand right now. at 13 degrees at philadelphia international airport. we would need to lose three more degrees to tie the record low. so we'll see how we do. still some time before the sun comes up. 5 degrees, that's new record in allentown, braking the previous one set in 1960, at seven. at 11 degrees in will mink, did dip to ten briefly in wilmington, so do actually have tide record, there as well. still a chill, oh, ya. i mean, the high hit 26 degrees, do the math.

authorities say the snowy runway had been plowed minutes before the plane touched down, and two other pilot reported good breaking conditions. the plane came down, and it slid, and then it took a spin to the left. and we look out the window, and we could see the wing was hitting a fence. >> twenty-four people suffered non-life threatening injuries. the ntsb says it will send an investigator to retrieve the plane's black boxes. erika? >> ukee, thank you. testimony takes a break this morning, in the trial of boston marathon bomber, tsarnaev dzhokhar. however, yesterday it was extremely emotional. jeff, who lost his legs in the explosion, told the court that he thought he was going to die. he also says he bumped into tamerlan dzhokhar, saw one the back packs just before the blast. tsarnaev's lawyers admit he is guilty but they're trying to prove he was influenced by his older brother. police need help finding a missing teenager in delaware county. take a look here, we have a

>> two suspect in custody of the shooting dealt of robert wilson. officer wilson was killed, trying to stop a robbery in north philadelphia yesterday. officer wilson is a father of two, and a eight year veteran of the police force. breaking news, church fire in talcony that fire broke out inside of the holy innocence episcopal church on torresdale avenue around 1:15 this morning there were no injuries. >> and 72 year old actor harrison ford recovering from serious injuries after he crash landed those world war world war type air plan in santa monica california golf course. doctors playing golf pulled him from the wreckage and gave him initial treatment. pennsylvania father seeks revenge on his teen daughter's accused rapist and it is all caught on camera.

right now cold, guys, so much snow on the gown, definitely going to lead to slow travel. road crews are doing their best to get it all cleaned up. it will take some time. big old mess out there. with temperatures as such, they're not going to have a chance to melt it away here, so keep that in mind, the next few days are actually the next seven days, every single passing day gets milder and milder and milder. the first day that's actually flirting with seasonable, though, not until tuesday. quite the hole to dig out f not huge warming trend. it is easing up with time. but this is going to help a lot of the snow melt away. and then by next mid week, we are hitting the 50's for a change. >> we do want to check in with meteorologist, carol erickson, out in the cbs-3 mobile weather lab in salem county this morning. carol, i know you said the crews have done stand out job here this morning. >> i wish i had enough gold stars, just about everybody with a snow plow in front of

their vehicle deserves one, doing pretty well, on route 40. that doesn't mean that there are not areas a lot still snow covered, get any drift that's already where you are going to be finding through open field things drift over, and then, with these road surfaces, well below freezing, in fact, in the mobile weather lab right now, we've seen temperatures between nine to 12 degrees, which turns currently anything that blows over, will start to freeze. video, route 55, through section of clayton and now some of route 55, look great. but some did not. perk it up un your times, feel how rough it was snow plows crews, et cetera, out there. they were working on. that will so that was some good work on their part and that's really what what is going on today. they are continuing to clean all of that up. >> we saw a guy stop, getting

snowball what, snowball, right in our faces in, no he took that snowball and cleaned off his own windshield, because the wiper fluid levels had froze never his car. salt, everything else, come up on to the windshield, and he ended up using a snowball that he found on the side of the road and made hand made it and cleaned off his windshield which is certainly very good advice, if you find yourself in a similar situation. this morning, so much is icy and just frozen solid, a better day on the horizon however. i can feel it. light snow could you blow right off. stuff you had to work at. make sure to give yourself more time this morning if you are head today work. them when you get there let's take a look, looking at 95, around the commodore barry

bridge if you are traveling in delaware county headed into delaware for the south but if you are traveling in this area, you will notice that it is really nice, delaware, did fantastic job. as well as all of the department of transportation as carol was saying, katie was saying clearing thinks out of the way. really roads are very quiet. they look great in and around this area. now, we switch gears for a second, take you to ever 422 around 23. a little snowier, i would say. notice traveling in either direction, no signs every rush hour still able to access the roadway, it is clear, if you will, but it is sort of frosted over, so just be careful of any black ice, and just take it easy, i would say, under 45 miles per hour, probably and good idea. we do have overturned vehicle in the northbound side of the new jersey turnpike right before burlington mt. holly. one lane block careful of. that will check for mass transit delays and detoursment don't for when on the road get update information about traffic backups with the new cbs traffic app. download the app now on itunes or even google play. err dismay. >> thank you. the final three transplants in

what's being called a kidney swap is taking place today in san francisco. six patients donate ago kidney, six patients receiving one. >> in the satellite center more with what a kidney swap; and who started it, nicole? >> good idea, morning guys. they call them kidney swaps. basically series every inter linked operations where six patients are getting kidney transplants from a san francisco hospital. all started when this woman who start that chain of donations, thanks to computer program, that matches dough ores -- donors to recipient. people in this chain aren't compatible with relatives or friends with whom they are too long give kidneys. so they instead donate to a patient who also has a family or friend unable to donate due to compatibility issues. >> this kind of pairing then goes down the line, four more times, until all six kidney patients get transplants. now whose son died of cancer 13 years ago whose husband passed away from cancer, little more than year ago
