tore here to buy his son a video game, he had been doing well, in school and monies his ninth birthday and officer wilson, never walk out. brothers 30 year-old carlton hipps and ramone williams have been arrested and charged with killing 30 year-old philadelphia police officer robert wilson. more than 50 bullets were exchange thursday at this game stop at between the second and lehigh. surveillance video inside recorded the fierce gun battle as customers and employees ran for cover. >> they were both firing at him. he was taking round. he was a actually being hit during the exchange of gunfire but he continued to fight, continued to shoot until the fatal wound was fired and it brought him down. >> reporter: hipps was shot in the leg during second round of gunfire with officer wilson's partner, officer wilson's handcuffs placed on him friday securing him to his hospital bed. wilson's mark patrol car with his partner sitting inside was park outside game stop just before 5:00 thursday night. wilson was inside in line

wait to go buy a video game. police say williams had confessed to the shooting saying he thought the the video game store would be a soft target. >> he did not see the the police car outside and when he walk into the store, he didn't see the the police officer until they announced the robbery and then the police officer turn and gunfight was on. >> reporter: flag outside between the second police district where officer wilson work was at half staff and black bunting draped the building. >> i have seen a lot have heroic actions on part of the police officers over the years. i have not seen any that rosa above what i saw on that video. >> reporter: officer wilson is being credited tonight with saving the lives of the nine customers, employees inside here at the time. officer wilson leaves behind two children a one year-old and a eight year-old. a as for suspects those brothers they both have criminal histories. reporting live tonight from north philadelphia todd quinones for cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

also david. >> reporter: i just got an e-mail from the senator's office and they say he will speak to the media at 7:00 o'clock tonight in newark. source with the department obvious advertise is telling cbs news attorney jenner i can holder has signed off on the corruption charges against the senior senator from new jersey and those charges will be filed in the next few weeks. allegations have followed menendez for two years that deal with the senator's relationship with an eye doctor in south florida, named salmon melge n, investigators, questioned several trips to his private plane in 2010. the senator reimbursed for melge n because under federal law it could be considered a gift. there are questions about whether menendez put pressure on the center for medicare and medicaid services to change reimbursement rules. fbi agents raided his office two years ago and he was a accused of over billing medicare by over nine million-dollar, and i reached out to senator menendez's office and spokeswoman said in the statement, i'll read tonight part as we have said

"eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson is live on city avenue with the very latest on the the the chin up effort hi steve. >> reporter: natasha, let me throw a number at you, 8,316 is number of potholes that the philadelphia a streets department says that they have filled since january 1st of this year. the just take a look at city avenue. this is a mind field out here. that number does not account for recent spat of recent storms that we have had and it will not being for all of the thawing that will happen when temperature heat up but we spoke to drivers who are dealing with this right now. >> it is bone jarring. >> your stomach goes up in your throat. >> feels like your car is getting ready to collapse. >> reporter: so many descriptions for one sickening feeling. >> boom, boom, over and over again. >> reporter: they are talking about this. the city avenue, haverford, looks like the aftermath of repeated mortar strikes. these road are so banged up

i'm chris may with some of the top stories for you today. two brothers are charge with first degree murder in the shooting death of philadelphia police officer robert wilson, the third. police say officer wilson was heroic until the very end exchanging gunfire with those suspects inside a game stop store. we will have more on officer wilson's life and the suspects in just a few minutes. new jersey senator robert menendez will speak with reporters at 7:00 o'clock tonight following reports that the justice department is proceeding with plans to bring

criminal corruption charges against the democrat. menendez is accused of doing political favors for a friend and donor in exchange for his political support. we are digging out from another winter storm, city avenue looked banged up with potholes all along the roadway. hopefully they we have seen the last of the snow for this year. kate? well, chris, we cannot prom that is because we have seen snow in late march and in april in philadelphia but certainly the last snow in the extended forecast we are till dealing with frigid air for are friday night. the clocks go forward and as we set those clocks forward the temperature will move forward as well. we will talk 50's, in the seven day forecast, that sound nice natasha. >> that does sound great thanks very much. today we are learning more about the suspects charge in the killing of the philadelphia police officer robert wilson, the third. investigative reporter charlotte wilson uncovered court documents and spoke to the man who used to rent a home to one of the men under

arrest. >> reporter: cowards, pure evil, and scum just a few of the word philadelphia officials have used to describe 24 year old ramone williams and 29 year-old carlton hipps, who both could face the the death penalty. the two brothers lived together here on the 1200 block of north hollywood street in brewerytown. police executed a search warrant of the home and recovered an ak-47. today in one answered at the home and neighbor passing by told us this. >> unaudible. >> reporter: williams used to live at this north philadelphia apartment. i team tracked down the former land lor this boy ramone williams his mother rented an apartment off of me before. we didn't have any problems. he was gone mess of the time. he had a fast carry know that. all dolled up. >> reporter: this isn't the first time the two brothers run into trouble with the law. >> ramone williams has two arrests, carlton hipps has six arrests, and he got out of

prison in i believe it was 2009. >> reporter: iteam found williams arrest record including retail theft. hipps have multiple convictions, he pled guilty to robbery and firearms charges following 2004 incident and was sentenced to ten years but hipps only served a minimum five before being released on parole in 2009. state probation and parole board document on tane by iteam shows hipps received a positive recommendation from the department of corrections. the board determined he was not a risk to the community and demonstrated motivation for success. as of yet hipps was still on county probation he met with his probation officer on tuesday, who noted no problems. under county pro business hipps was prohibited from possessing any firearms. police say at least 50 shots were fired yesterday and williams has confessed to police semiautomatic guns they used were purchased on the street. now police are investigate hog may have illegally supplied those guns to the brothers and that person could face

repair broken bones he suffered in the plane crash in california yesterday. cbs news correspondent susan marquez has more. >> reporter: crews partially disassembled and took away vintage single engine plane that harrison ford crash landedded on a gulf course thursday afternoon. the seven two-year old actor made a distress call shortly after taking off by nearby santa barbara airport. >> engine failure need to return. >> he even landed on the court. >> reporter: golfers and bystanders rush to pull ford from the plane. spinal surgeon was one of the first to reach him. >> as you can imagine he was monkey little bit where am i saying thing of that nature but he was alert. >> reporter: investigators with the national transportation safety board will get a closer look at a airplane hanger where it will be stored. >> the the engine will be examined, the wreckage of the aircraft will be examine. >> reporter: ford managed to avoid homes in the area on the way down but did clip a tree.

cbs news aviation consultant sully sullenberger has flown with ford in the past. >> i'm sure he has flown out of that airport many times and he knows where the open areas air and it was a gulf course. he would have had that already in mind. >> reporter: emergency crews carried ford off the course and rush him to the nearby hospital. a few hours later his son tweeted daddies okay battered but okay. susan marquez for cbs news venice, california. this is not first time harrison ford has been involved in the air crash, back in 1999 he crash his bell 206 helicopter in california but he was in the hurt. a car loses control and hits a woman and all of it is captured on camera. this happened in road island. watch as the the car comes down an icy hill hitting a park car and then an 18 year-old woman. woman was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released. >> there is a blind spot coming over that hill you cannot see this over here.

yesterday's snowfall help get above average on the year. snowfall year to date 23 inches. this is normal 19.9 so we have had an above normal winter. and, through this date last year we had 62.9 inches of snow. we ended up with 68 inches of snow. we are doing better then we did last year but still an above average winter despite late on set of the heavy snow. let check with our weather watchers because they provided so many updates throughout the course of the storm and now reporting cold temperatures. 26 degrees. this is phil chatlane in philadelphia 26. he sent us a lovely picture of the wind mere art new people in chestnut hill. such a beautiful sight. the snow blanketing the branches against the the blue skies today. want to show you another couple pictures because we have had great ones. look at the ice that form. look at this from lynn springer never seen so many ice sickles. i notice that had as well.

now we are talk about improving weather throughout the weekend and into next week. temperatures still very cold. twenty-six at the the airport. twenty-two in allentown. that is 20 degrees below average. watch as it lifts through weekend and into next week mild air begins to invade and temperatures start to climb. we will jump from the 20's today, 30's tomorrow to 40's on sunday. stays there through tuesday and we will promise 50's are on the way. they will get here eventually. overnight tonight mainly clear very cold down to 13 degrees. that will be last of the teens for a while. tomorrow we are up to 38, not as harsh, mostly sunny and pretty beautiful saturday. set these clocks forward before you you go to bed saturday night. feels like you will lose an hour but sunday will feel like a nice long day. sun does not the set until 7:00. nice mild take to get outside a lieutenant of snow melt happening this weekend. monday lots of sunshine at 46 degrees. as we head into next week there is a a system tuesday coming by that could bring showers to our southern zones, that moves out and in its wake
