off course and out of the city. "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter is live in upper darby where the bus finally came to a stop, walt? >> reporter: well, just some very frightening moments here at west chester pike and new street around 2:30 this afternoon, a school bus, full of little children all at the windows screaming for help. police say the driver was lost and when he got off the the busy was disoriented they had taken him to the hospital for testing. the here's how it all went down. take a look at this map. this is where the the bus was supposed to be going police say leaving the mastery school at mann in west philadelphia and stopping at various locationness west and southwest philadelphia. but instead, for reasons still not clear the driver police say got lost and wound up in upper dash a long west chester pike. now, take a look at this stretch of highway. to this is west chester pike near new street. this is where a female motorist heard children screaming, dialed 911 and

police found the bus. the children were all safe. no injuries. but the driver was disoriented and has been rush to the hospital. not sure what his condition is. police superintendent mike chitwood and a spokesperson for the school district filled in other details on this incident. >> he appeared to be very disoriented. he had no idea where he was. he didn't know what was happening about his being. they didn't know if he was high on some type of of medication, and or alcohol. >> this is the substitute bus driver for that route. so that added to i believe the the reason why he was lost budd he clearly, according to police, was disoriented and confused. students are safe. they are back at home now. we're trying to figure out what happened to the bus driver and yes got lost. >> reporter: now both police and school district are continuing their investigation into the the driver. the is too exactly what was going on in that bus.

we contacted all city transportation, and they operate that bus under contract for the philadelphia school district. the a spokesperson there said they have been aware of the incident but beyond that they have no additional comment. live from upper darby i'm walt hunter for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you walt. ten special need students in burlington county were taken to the hospital this morning. this is after the bus they were riding in collided with two other vehicles. chopper three was on the scene along the 700 block of wood lane road. police say injuries weren't serious but as a precaution the students were taken to virtua hospital for evaluation. more than a dozen students and staff got sick today at paulsboro high school. they were overcome by fumes. paulsboro refinery which is nearby said a leak in the tank containing a like wednesday hydro carbon mixture cause that had smell. those who got sick were taken to the medical center in woodbury. we talk to the parent who got a frantic call from her

daughter. >> she said mom, emergency dismissing us and i need to you come pick me up. she called and let me know that the smell was worse then the other two days and kids are fainting in the classroom. >> reporter: students were sent home early for the the day. well, this is the aftermath of the huge apartment fire in northeast philadelphia that left many homeless and investigators now looking for a cause. crews spent the day tearing down the charred ruble of rita grace manor on academy road. the fire broke out yesterday and quickly spread leaving a hundred people homeless. now many are stepping up to help with donations and temporary assistance. >> people can come together to left people up to bring healing, to bring support to bring shelter and to bring life back to those who have have been displaced. so there is hope. >> nearby abraham lincoln high school is offering temporary shelter and lodging for those displaced. doors will be opened throughout the evening.

the deadly ewing gas explosion leads to the largest fine ever issued by the new jersey board of utility. pse&g and subcontractor henkels and mccoy must pay 1.6 million-dollar for safety violations that led to the explosion last march. investigators say workers digging at south fork development struck a gas line but never called 911 to report the leak. linda cerritelli was killed in that blast. a cold blustery day out there, certainly not feeling like spring. move in on friday regardless. take a look at what we have out there right now. we're talking about temperatures well below average, 45 in philadelphia 41 in allentown, 42 in reading. the normal high this time of the year is 53 degrees. wind gusting to 28 miles an hour in philadelphia, that is an improvement, earlier gusting to at least 33. in the poconos and in trenton gusting to 30 miles an hour. new we are looking at a clear sky so no weather issues right now but you don't to have look that far to the southwest to see clouds to the tennessee valley and mid-atlantic and also some rain through st. louis, memphis and extending down through lou san a that is our next storm system moving our way and by friday we are talking about snow most places beginning as snow abe then accumulating a after. that as far as timing is concern the snow arrives during morning. it will be wet as temperatures climb through the the 30's. slippery roads and slow travel through the midday and then late in the day we are expect ago this to change over to

police station. we will go right to "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones tracking breaking details from plymouth township tonight, todd? >> reporter: jessica, we're told that around 4:00 this afternoon a conshohocken boro police detective was actually here inside the plymouth township police department processing a prisoner when that conshohocken police detective's gun accidentally discharged shooting him one time in the leg. i'm being told that sometimes the the conshohocken boro police department uses facilitate at plymouth township police department to process prisoners. that is where that conshohocken detective was doing here around 4:00 this afternoon when his gun accidentally discharged shooting him one time in the leg. that conshohocken boro police detective was taken to the einstein medical center in montgomery with non-life threatening injuries. the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting here this afternoon still are not clear, as soon as we get more information we will pass that to you. for now we are reporting live tonight from plymouth

township, todd quinones, cbs-3 "eyewitness news" good thank you very much. today was a day to honor a very special teenager in new jersey his name is arturo mattea a. >> at the age of satisfaction has done more and overcome more then those many times his age. mattea received the the president's volunteer surface war at holy cross high school in delaware, new jersey. he survived a tumor and leg amputation but he says surviving that ordeal motivated him to lead several campaigns to bring awareness to childhood cancer. >> right now there is only 4 percent of national funding going toward childhood cancer. so it is basically the awareness too, you know, grand more wishes and stuff like that, raise more money. >> reporter: mattia become nominee for national prudential spirit award given out in washington d.c. later this year. the philadelphia police department recognized its finest members this afternoon during a merit commendation

temperature, paul is reporting in, a temperature of 42, pressure is falling, new london township and we are looking at conditions that are going to get even colder with clear skies overnight tonight, and we did have a pretty scene though, i want to show you ed reported in just a few moments ago saying a sliver of a cloud in the west but that is just bit. if you look really close you can see buds on the the trees of a sign of spring. take a look outside where we have mainly clear skies down the shore high sirus clouds in atlantic city but it will be a very pretty end to the day. same goes for tomorrow. then things begin to change as cloud roll in and precipitation. it will be cold though as wind diminish. you can see bind northwest right now and by 9:00 o'clock temperatures fall in the lower 30's. midnight we will go below freezing in philadelphia, 19 in the poconos. tomorrow morning with that northerly wind in philadelphia, 28, the same in wilmington and poconos just 16 degrees but the the wind will be light and that will make a big difference during the day tomorrow. forty's tomorrow.

feeling much more comfortable then they were today with plenty of sunshine, that high pressure slide off the coast of new england and allows our next storm to move n with cold air in place we will be seeing accumulating wet snow with temperatures in the the 30's, before that warm air moves into the region. now as far as travel is concerned for your friday the poconos mainly snow on the local routes. the police ab wear of that. to the north and west and also the lehigh valley slushy and slick travel. the city and suburbs, wet and slush which temperatures rise ago above freezing and in delaware and south jersey mainly wet with a quick hit of snow and then changing quickly over to rain t to 4 inches of snow expect friday and it will start during the morning hours, through reading and also allentown. the the poconos, four to have. you will have the bull's eye. it will be cold enough to have more of a powdery snow with temperatures in the 20's for you and higher accumulation. one to 2 inches of snow mainly accumulating on grassy surface toes start and less than a this much through south jersey and delaware where we do anticipate the the rain to take over fairly quickly.
