i'm anne-marie green. well, this morning angelina jolie is revealing a new chapter in her struggle to prevent cancer. in a "new york times" op-ed, the oscar-winning actress says she had her ovaries and fallapian tubes removed. two years ago she had a double mastectomy. since sheen she's promised to reveal details of any other procedures she's had. she wrote, quote, it is not possible to remove all risk, and the fact is i remain prone to cancer. she said i know my children will never have to say mom died of ovarian cancer. jolie says before that 2013 surgery, she had an 87% risk of breast cancer and a 50% risk of ovarian cancer. her mother, grandmother and aunt all died of cancer. and the university of maryland police say they have been unable to substantiate a threat made against president obama's niece. she plays on princeton's women's basketball team and there was

extra security at last night's game against maryland. susan mcginnis has details. >> the heat at the buzzer that's it. >> reporter: maryland's lady terps ended the princeton tigers' undefeated season monday as undercover security agents stood guard throughout the arena. the win is being overshadowed by a now-unsubstantiated threat against president obama's niece, leslie robinson. the freshman forward for princeton was reportedly not aware of the threat before the game, but her coach was. >> leslie's safe. no one loves her like i do. and she's an important part of our team. so keep the freaks out of the gym, how about it? >> reporter: authorities here say a woman called the school's police department saying she received a text indicating a man she knew had a gun and mentioned president obama's niece. campus police started an investigation immediately and notified the secret service. some agents were already inside the arena guarding supreme court justices sonia sotomayor and

elena kagan who were in attendance. fans who learned of the added security measures after the game were surprised. >> that's news to me. >> reporter: over the weekend president obama attended the princeton game against wisconsin-green bay. the commander in chief was not there last night. leslie robinson is the daughter of craig robinson craig is michelle obama's brother. anne-marie? >> susan mcginnis in washington thank you, susan. texas senator ted cruz travels to new york this week to raise money for his just-announced presidential campaign. as craig boswell reports, crews kicked off his campaign yesterday by appealing to conservatives and taking dead aim at president obama's health care law. >> reporter: texas senator ted cruz says conservative christians should rise up and restore the promise of america. >> that is why today i am announcing that i'm running for president of the united states. >> reporter: he made the formal announcement at liberty university, an evangelical

christian college. the 44-year-old republican laid out his vision for the next administration, calling for a flat tax securing the borders, and ending president obama's health care law. >> imagine in 2017 a new president signing legislation repealing every word of obamacare. >> reporter: senator cruz gained national attention in 2013 leading a 16-day government shutdown as he urged congress to cut off money for the health care law. cruz, a tea party favorite and now the first major candidate in the 2016 race not only criticized president obama but took aim at likely gop challengers. >> imagine repealing every word of common core. >> reporter: jeb bush is a defender of the education initiative. the former florida governor along with kentucky senator rand paul wisconsin governor scott walker, and several others are expected to join cruz in the coming months in a crowded field for the republican nomination.

craig boswell, cbs news, washington. >> and you can hear from ted cruz when he stops by studio 57 coming up on "cbs this morning." a likely democratic presidential contender, hillary clinton, paid a visit to her old boss and former rival. clinton met privately with president obama at the white house for about an hour yesterday. the white house says they discussed a variety of issues. clinton posted a message to twitter praising obamacare and taking a swipe at the republicans like ted cruz who want to get rid of it. she wrote, "16 million covered, young people preexisting conditions, women get better coverage repeal those things? embrace them." she also posted an old photo of her and the president. well penn state university has set up a task force to examine the role fraternities and sororities play on campus. it was last week a secret facebook page belonging to the penn state chapter of kappa delta row that featured foelt

toes of nude women became public. the task force will look at racial and ethnic diversity, sexual misconduct and alcohol abuse. and now to news about a police investigation of a fraternity at the university of virginia. an alleged gang rape reported by "rolling stone" magazine made national headlines. the magazine admits there were mistakes in the article. and police investigating the alleged incident say the evidence does not back up the story. wendy gillette reports. >> reporter: police investigating an alleged gang rape at a university of virginia fraternity say there's no evidence the attack described in "rolling stone" magazine actually took place. >> suffice it to say we were unable to find any basis of fact to conclude that there was even an event on september the 28th, 2012 at that particular fraternity house. >> reporter: in the explosive article last fall a student identified as jackie described being sexually assaulted by seven men at a five kappa thi

party in 2012. the allegations prompted the university to suspend all social activities at greek organizations. but investigators found numerous discrepancies in the woman's account including her friend's recollections of the incident. >> they don't recall any physical injuries. they do feel like something occurred, but they don't recall any physical injuries. and so there's some inconsistencies between what they recall and what's outlined in the article. >> reporter: jackie refused to cooperate with police after the article was printed in november. >> and that doesn't mean that something terrible did not happen to jackie. >> reporter: police say the case is suspended, not closed. wendy gillette for cbs news new york. president obama is scheduled to meet with afghanistan's new president at the white house this morning. mr. obama is expected to discuss the likelihood of slowing the pace of the u.s. troop withdrawal from afghanistan. yesterday ghani met with secretary of state john kerry. fresh violence this morning in eastern afghanistan.

gunmen opened fire on a highway. they sprayed passing vehicles including a bus with automatic weapons fire killing at least 13 people. so far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. israel's prime minister is apologizing. benjamin netanyahu says he was sorry for remarks made during last week's parliamentary election. a few hours before polls closed he said arab citizens had been voting in droves. his party met monday with members of the arab community to apologize. and the house wants president obama to send arms to ukraine. by an overwhelming vote of 348-48, monday lawmakers passed the resolution to send lethal weapons to ukraine. they would be used in the fight against russian-backed rebels in a war that began last april. coming up on the "morning news" now, deadly construction accident. a scaffolding collapse claims the lives of workers in raleigh, north carolina. and later, seaworld makes a

in north carolina a construction worker is hospitalized in serious condition today after three others were killed in a scaffold collapse. the scaffold fell off an 11-story high-rise construction project monday in raleigh. an investigation is trying to determine what caused it to collapse and crash into a parking lot. and testimony resumes today in the boston marathon bombing trial. on monday prosecutors focused on jihadi material and other evidence from the defendant's digital devices. marlee hall reports. >> reporter: jurors were shown some of the text messages dzhokhar tsarnaev sent and received three days after the deadly bombings. in one exchange he texted his friend. "you saw the news?"

then i texted "you can go to my room and take what you want." he pleaded guilty last year to obstruction of justice for removing evidence from tsarnaev's college dorm room. defense lawyers spent hours vigorously cross-examined fbi computer forensics expert kevin swindon about his testimony last week. in that testimony, swindon told jurors copies of al qaeda's-inspired magazine were on tsarnaev's computer including an article titled "make a bomb in the kitchen of your mom." two pressure cooker bombs exploded at the finish line of the boston marathon killing three and injuring 264. besides describing text messages, swindon's new testimony was about islamic chants found on tsarnaev's computer and mobile devices. but his lawyers argued those were just a small sample of hundreds of digital files that also included homework assignments and pop songs. lawyers argued other family members used the computer. swindon also testified tsarnaev's older brother

around the country. on the "cbs moneywatch," seaworld fights back. and a baseball icon changes hands. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, jill. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. seaworld is launching a new campaign. >> they live just as long as killer whales in the wild. >> reporter: the youtube ads show the seaworld animals being cared for by veterinarians. there's also a print campaign focusing on the animals' well-being. the documentary "blackfish" was critical of how seaworld kept its killer whales. revenue and attendance declined dramatically after it was released. stocks opened slightly lower. the dow lost 11 points yesterday.

the s&p edged down 3 points and the nasdaq closed 15 points lower. singer taylor swift is among those buying porn site addresses. swift bought the web domain names before they became public this summer. it is a preventative move aimed at keeping people from linking a famous name with a porn site. the names end in dotporn or dotadult including taylorswift.porn. microsoft is buying up some of the names, x and so is harvard university. the company that makes louisville slugger is selling the brand to wilson sporting goods. wilson paid $70 million. it's been a baseball institution for more than 100 years, but the owners say there's too much competition now. the bats will continue to be made in downtown louisville. anne-marie? >> that makes me just a little bit melancholy, i suppose. it's nice to have a quaint little business but there's no crying in baseball, right? jill wagner at the new york
