deliberately flew the jet in the mountain side as passengers screamed in terror. >> unaudible. >> reporter: authorities say cockpit voice recorder reveals a german co pilot andrea is lubitz locked the captain out after he stepped out. lubitz then manually set the plane on a dissent as the captain pounded on the arm or door. >> no words during the the ten last minute. >> reporter: the 28 year old is from the the germantown ofmontbauer, people who knew him said he appeared normal and happy to be working with germanwings airlines. investigators don't believe lubitz was a terrorist. they are focusing on his personal and professional life to figure out what motivated him. cbs news has learned that lubitz train at an air zone flight school in 2010 and had a u.s. pilots license. lubitz family traveled here to france to visit the the crash site, they are being kept

these disturbing allegations matt. >> reporter: chris, as you mentioned 26 year-old ashley reichill, remains in jail after failing to post bail. she is facing charges ranging from per jury to child abuse. it was july of last year investigators say that ashley richard, beat her 11 month-old daughter criminal complaint list the injuries including a broken side bone, two skull fractures, broken jaw, multiple burns and among others. there were clear signs of abuse and pinned them all squarely on the 26 year-old mother of two. >> i have never seen anything like that, you know, personally but when you read bit, it is horrific. >> reporter: police conduct an investigation for months, bringing a case before a grand jury for review. investigators say she tried to pin opinion the crimes on others and lied to investigators several times throughout the the process. she was arrested earlier this week. >> i didn't think that she would be capable of hurting

he was left in the u.s. in october of 2014 on a crew visa. such incredibly shocking details that has left us wand fairing something like this could ever happen in this country. you know jim donovan he was a flight attendant for a major airline for eight years. we come to him with aviation questions. walk us through a process. what happens when a pilot need to leave perhaps to go to the bathroom. >> there are rules that vary depending on when are a u.s. carrier or international carrier but here for the the the the most part the the you had carrier what would happies pilot would call back to the flight attendant. he would say i need to use the rest room. two flight attendants would come up to the front of the plane, one would take the dinner cart and block the area while the other knocks on the cockpit door. pilot sees the flight attendant open up, pilot comes out, flies attendant goes in shuts the door behind him or her, so you still have two people in the cockpit. one blocking the area and

pilot would use the rest room. once the pilot was finish comes out, knocks on the door flight attendant sees pilot works open up the door, flight attendant goes out pilot goes in, door again lock. >> no one is ever alone in the cockpit. >> in the you had there may be one pilot but always a flied a tenth ant two people at all times to prevent all of a sudden a medical issue with the remaining pilot. >> this is a post 9/11 thing too. >> exactly. >> what happens in this situation we have a pilot who was locked out and trying to get back in? is there anyway to override controls in the cockpit to get that door to open. >> reporter: these doors have been designed post 9/11 to withstand gunfire grenades. what happened is years ago we had keys to get in the cockpit. these days everything is compute another ised keyboard. so if there was only one pilot in the seat at the time in the cockpit, normally the other pilot would punch in the numbers, anywhere from two to seven and allow the the door to unlock and pilot would go in there. in this case there is also a
