deliberately flew the jet in the mountain side as passengers screamed in terror. >> unaudible. >> reporter: authorities say cockpit voice recorder reveals a german co pilot andrea is lubitz locked the captain out after he stepped out. lubitz then manually set the plane on a dissent as the captain pounded on the arm or door. >> no words during the the ten last minute. >> reporter: the 28 year old is from the the germantown ofmontbauer, people who knew him said he appeared normal and happy to be working with germanwings airlines. investigators don't believe lubitz was a terrorist. they are focusing on his personal and professional life to figure out what motivated him. cbs news has learned that lubitz train at an air zone flight school in 2010 and had a u.s. pilots license. lubitz family traveled here to france to visit the the crash site, they are being kept

others were hurt when a tornado sliced through a mobile home park near tulsa yesterday. that storm also severely damaged this gymnastics studio in sand springs, it had dozens of children inside. >> they were the best state in the nation when it comes to handling a tragedy or some type of natural difficult aster. we have a good plan, we have good people and that is why we're known for oklahoma standard. >> reporter: tonight, 25 counties are under a state of emergency as officials continue to assess all of that damage. the system that brought tornadoes to oklahoma is the same system that is now bringing rain to our area. some parts of the region might even see a thunderstorm. for more on that we will go to meteorologist kathy orr live on the cbs-3 sky deck, kathy. >> the good news jessica is that we're not expecting severe weather as that system has really diminished in intensity and strength as it moves across the midwest last night and toward delaware valley. right now we have a few breaks in the clouds and that will help fuel up those showers and storms for this evening. temperatures have listen well

these disturbing allegations matt. >> reporter: chris, as you mentioned 26 year-old ashley reichill, remains in jail after failing to post bail. she is facing charges ranging from per jury to child abuse. it was july of last year investigators say that ashley richard, beat her 11 month-old daughter criminal complaint list the injuries including a broken side bone, two skull fractures, broken jaw, multiple burns and among others. there were clear signs of abuse and pinned them all squarely on the 26 year-old mother of two. >> i have never seen anything like that, you know, personally but when you read bit, it is horrific. >> reporter: police conduct an investigation for months, bringing a case before a grand jury for review. investigators say she tried to pin opinion the crimes on others and lied to investigators several times throughout the the process. she was arrested earlier this week. >> i didn't think that she would be capable of hurting

her kid. >> reporter: in addition to the police they say she lied about having ovarian cancer, shaving her own head and eyebrows as part of the plan. officials say she did this on gain sympathy and avoid prosecution. she also claims cancer treatments caused her to miss several appointments with her parole officer. jessica coverly considered her a friend and thought that the cancer was real, until we told her what the police suspect. >> unbelievable. wow, she pulled one over my head. i really thought she was telling the the truth. >> reporter: officials also tell us that there will be custody hearings soon to determine where the two children involved in this case will go in the future. we're live from bristol township matt rivers for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> all right, had matt. breaking news now septa decides not to appeal a court ruling on anti muslim advertising. you could be seeing those ads on the sides of buses rolling around town. headquarters with new information, todd. >> reporter: jessica those controversial ads will begin appearing on septa buses on april 1st. there will be 84 septa buses and the ads will run for four weeks. >> anti islamic ads are coming to septa today the transit authority said it would not appeal a federal court ruling that a new hampshire based non-profit called american freedom defense initiative has a first amendment right to run bus ads linking muslims to hitler. the ads include images of hitler and a read islamic/jew hatred it is in the quran. at a special septa board meeting this afternoon members of the religious leaders council of greater philadelphia commended septa for its efforts to try to prevent the ad. >> while we affirm the constitutional protection of free speech, had that does not diminish our condemnation of irresponsible speech. the language used in these proposed advertisements is

to the ground in the 400 block of fairmount avenue last friday. suspects left in the red pickup truck with wood panels one of the suspects was caught on video inside a convenient store and if you have any information, call police. teenager is fighting for his life tonight after he was shot in the head outside of a corner store in kensington. the gun fire erupted around 11:00 o'clock this morning along the 2,000 block of east cambria street. there is no record on an arrest or why that 17 year-old was targeted. a philadelphia just has postponed sentencing for cristina regusters. in january of 203 regusters kidnaped a five-year old girl from a west philadelphia kindergarten classroom, sexually assaulted that girl and left her alone in an darby playground. lawyers for regusters say they are awaiting psychological reports. prosecutors are seeking a life sentence. well, there is new information today in that penn

we continue to follow breaking news, 13 people have been injured, four of them critically in an explosion and building collapse in manhattan's east village. you can see there fire fighters pouring water into the building after a huge fire broke out. the fire department in new york says that people are being evaluated from all around the surrounding area our sister station cbs two in new york say witnesses smelled gas and there are reports work was being done in the basement of the building before the explosion. we will continue to follow this story and bring you any

we continue to follow breaking news. emergency responders are on the scene of the fire and building collapse on the new york city's east side the east village. the explosion and collapse happened just after 3:00 this afternoon. we know fire quickly escalate todd seven alarms within an hour witnesses told our affiliate w cbs there was an a odor of gas in the area after the explosion. there are 13 people confirmed injured, four of them in critical condition. take a look at these pictures coming from the scene of the fire. you can see smoke in the area. take a look at a second photo you can see from the ground level the smoke and flames pouring out of that building and how intense that fire is. this third photo from just down the the street shows just how extreme this fire was, 13 injured, three of them critically in manhattan's east village after that explosion and building collapse. our sister station w cbs

he was left in the u.s. in october of 2014 on a crew visa. such incredibly shocking details that has left us wand fairing something like this could ever happen in this country. you know jim donovan he was a flight attendant for a major airline for eight years. we come to him with aviation questions. walk us through a process. what happens when a pilot need to leave perhaps to go to the bathroom. >> there are rules that vary depending on when are a u.s. carrier or international carrier but here for the the the the most part the the you had carrier what would happies pilot would call back to the flight attendant. he would say i need to use the rest room. two flight attendants would come up to the front of the plane, one would take the dinner cart and block the area while the other knocks on the cockpit door. pilot sees the flight attendant open up, pilot comes out, flies attendant goes in shuts the door behind him or her, so you still have two people in the cockpit. one blocking the area and

pilot would use the rest room. once the pilot was finish comes out, knocks on the door flight attendant sees pilot works open up the door, flight attendant goes out pilot goes in, door again lock. >> no one is ever alone in the cockpit. >> in the you had there may be one pilot but always a flied a tenth ant two people at all times to prevent all of a sudden a medical issue with the remaining pilot. >> this is a post 9/11 thing too. >> exactly. >> what happens in this situation we have a pilot who was locked out and trying to get back in? is there anyway to override controls in the cockpit to get that door to open. >> reporter: these doors have been designed post 9/11 to withstand gunfire grenades. what happened is years ago we had keys to get in the cockpit. these days everything is compute another ised keyboard. so if there was only one pilot in the seat at the time in the cockpit, normally the other pilot would punch in the numbers, anywhere from two to seven and allow the the door to unlock and pilot would go in there. in this case there is also a

"eyewitness news" new jersey reporter cleve bryan tells us tens of thousands of student have already refused to take that test. >> being punished for refusing the test. >> reporter: kathleen is one of many parent in her school district who refused to let her child take readiness for college and careers test known as park. >> started out with ten kid in the classroom. by the time the end of this last round of testing ended there was five classrooms full

of 25 kid. >> reporter: what do they do while the test is going on. >> not doing anything my son watched u tube video for three hours. >> reporter: even though the parc test is mandatory according to the new jersey's teachers union more than 45,000 students refused to take it. >> is what happening with the parc test is unhealth toy our see site. parents have suspicion about the test in general, how it is administered, amount of class time utilized, what are the results being used for. >> reporter: new jersey's assembly considered a bill giving parents the right to opt out of the the parc and requiring schools to provide meaningful alternative during the the test times. it passed unanimously though with a concern. >> people in new jersey should have the option but i don't want anyone to interpret this vote or at least my vote as encouraging people to opt out. >> reporter: one bill sponsor stopped the claims that low participation in the parc will jeopardize federal school funding. >> it hasn't had happened in any other state. when all else fails they will use that one. >> reporter: supporters say

police are on the scene of what could be an abduction in philadelphia's fairmount neighborhood. well, good evening i'm chris may. >> aim jessica dean. we will go live to diana rocco gathering breaking details from the scene on sedgley drive, diana a? >> reporter: chris and yes sir contact police investigation is well underway here, you can see crime tape is up and cruiser marks the spot on the 3200 block of sedgley drive, where just before 3:00 o'clock police got a call from the witness who saw a woman being forced in to the trunk of a car by a man wearing a white t-shirt and a white hat. that carries described as a dark blue pontiac grabbed prewith a partial plate j-t. it was last seen heading westbound on girard avenue towards kelly drive. now at this hour we do know that police are looking for surveillance video in the area, that might give them a better look at this car and possibly even the driver. again, a witness reports
