. you live report straight ahead. pope francis leads sunday mass as start of the most holy week of the christian calendar. good morning, it is sunday march 29th i'm todd quinones in for nicole brewer. we have had a first full week of spring and these cold temperatures are putting up a fight. here's meteorologist carol erickson with eyewitness weather. it just went go away. >> no, we are so sick of jackets and gloves scarves it is practically april but we have another warning of that but i think you'll like the temperatures on the seven day forecast better than what we have been dealing with. we have beautiful looking conditions, this morning. center city philadelphia the city silhouetted against that blue sky. then in the poconos i saw them grooming that trail and see that vehicle go up and down the slopes. perfect looking day for that with the sun out and temperatures coal. snow isn't going anywhere in the poconos. ardmore 23 degrees and in the a bit of snow in sight on the ground, which is lovely. we have storm scan three

showing nothing falling, either, we have a few cloud that are leaving and it will be a bright beautiful day to day. twenty-eight out at the airport in philadelphia. we have pick up a degree, 25 in trenton. 27 degrees in wilmington. it is still just 16 in the poconos but with the wind it feels generally like 17 degrees straight down from allentown to philadelphia right to millville and over to dover. cold morning out there, we do start to see these temperatures climb though and by 9:00 a.m. we should be around 28 degrees, that is not hard there. by noon though 37 degrees and we will close out the the day with temperatures in the mid to upper 40's. we will show you future weather. looking for sunshine all day licensing right through 4:00. a few clouds late tonight and then what is this? by early monday morning there could be a brief rain or snow shower, moving into the area. it doesn't look like a big deal at all, should be gone by 10:00 o'clock tomorrow morning but something to watch. just because it is a nuisance

and these temperatures may be colder, so we will continue to time line that and talk about what is coming up the rest of the week todd. >> carol, thank you. police are searching for a suspect in the north philadelphia home invasion the 25 year old home owner was stabbed and robbed during the home invasion and in stable condition this morning at temple university hospital there is no word on what was stolen from that home. also new a man is being treated for smoke inhalation after a house fire not far from lasalle university. the the "eyewitness news" on the to hundred block of east ashmed street fire under control in a half april hour but investigators are still looking for the the cause. it took fire fighters a an hour to get this upper hand on this fire, in a bakery, near between the second and cambria streets in north philadelphia. there were apartments above and next door to the business, but residents were able to get out safely. the cause of that fire is under investigation. a developing story this

morning, a darby boro police officer is dead this morning after a shooting at his home. cherry greg from our sister station kyw news radio is live at darby boro police station in delaware county with the very latest developments, cherry. >> reporter: good morning, todd. police say the 26 year-old officer was shot once in the chest while off-duty inside of his delaware county home, authorities immediately launched an investigation and they are expect to file homicide charges later today. police say it happened just after 4:30 p.m. at this home in the 600 block of magnolia drive, officers responded to a report of the shots fired arrived on the scene and found a four year veteran officer in an upstairs bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the chest. the the officer was taken to presbyterian hospital where he died. the the part-time officer was also a yeadon fire fighter and will be missed. >> he was a shining star in

the department. he was an even tempered nice guy, anybody that met him, they always had a good word for him. he knew how to talk to people. >> reporter: police say it was like losing a member of the family, and that veteran officer had a bright future on the force. police say a woman was also in the home when they arrived and that home had previously had domestic disputes reports filed from that location. no word yet on the name of the officer, as the authorities notify his family member of his death. in darby, cherry greg for kyw news radio for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> cherry, thank you. a philadelphia police officer faces drunk driving and assault charges after an altercation with the supervisor. officer darryl cathey is accused of pulling up to the 12th district yesterday morning behind the wheel of the patrol car with three flat

tires. investigators say a supervisor who came outside smelled alcohol on cathey's breath. cathey is now accused of assault ago this superior when he tried to take him into custody. the the the six year veteran is suspended with intent to dismiss. septa a's manayunk norristown regional will rail line is shut down until further notice after a warehouse fire. explosion at a morgan town manufacturing plant. the deadly explosion took place at timet plant on homelock road. issuing ises of the blast remain unclear, osha and state police are investigating the accident. philadelphia police have released the name of the teenager accused in the stabbing death of his own mother. police say 19 year-old zachary pritchit critically injured his grandmother in a house on the 2800 block of reynold street in brideberg. pritchit told them friday morning that the stabbings were as a result of the home invation and he now faces murder, aggravated assault and other charges. crews are searching crash site in the french alps for remains of the victims of the germanwings flight disaster. they are also looking for plane's flight data recorder at the same time we are now learning more about the co pilot whom investigators say intentionally crashed that jet. cbs news correspondent chris van cleve has latest from

germany. >> reporter: woman claiming to be a flight attendant and former girl friend of andreas lubitz told a german paper lubitz said that he would do something and that everyone will necessity my name. up investigators believe lubitz intentionally crashed flight 9525, killing himself, and all 149 other people on board, after locking the plane's captain out of the cockpit. german prosecutors say is there evidence he had a medical condition and treatment including a shred doctor's note excusing him from working the day of the crash. now media reports say he sought treatment for a problem with his vision. police remain outside run its family home in germany where residents are trying to make sense of the tragedy. >> this neighbor says he is shock, adding it will take time for people here to process what happened. investigators here in germany met with the french counterparts saturday to discuss what they have discovered so far including evidence gathered a at the

it is march 29th i'm todd quinones here's meteorologist, with a look at eyewitness weather. carol, cold outside. it shows there but it is still, you know, it is still cold. >> i mean, come on, this is ridiculous. everyone is complaining about how cold it is, to no effect but maybe it is working. we do get warmer. it is the complaints that might be to go it. we have blue skies. 28 degrees in center city philadelphia it looks nice at the shore. you can see people outside on the boardwalk in ocean city and they are walking stralling along so they are not ducking for cover or running along saying it is ridiculously cold so they are enjoying themselves this morning. we have a cold morning in

reading but nice, dry and not a bit of snow on the ground to be seen and that is a nice start as we close out last weekend in march. storm scan three nothing going on. we have not even cloud, which is really nice but by the time we get to this after afternoon we will still hang on to the unshine and these temperatures that you see right now in the the 20's will be warming up and will be into the the 40's. 28 degrees the temperature in philadelphia right now. factor in the wind and it is colder. it feels like the teens every place, and it feels like 2 degrees up in the poconos. now the warm up will start. it is in the a huge warm up today certainly and we're well we low where we should be. we should be in the upper 50's. we will stop in the mid to upper 40 a's today. it will be sunny with a slight pleas not as windy as yesterday work that said it will knock the feel of these temperatures down a little bit. our future weather keeping sunshine going for us right through 5:00 o'clock, right through six or 7:00 o'clock. sun starts to set. a a few clouds start to come in. notice tomorrow morning, first thing you may be finding a rain or a snow shower coming in as these temperatures start

the 600 block of magnolia a avenue just after 4:30 p.m. on saturday they were responding to reports of shots fired and when they arrived they found a woman in the home as the four year veteran officer with a gunshot wound to the chest. the officer was taken to presbyterian hospital where he was pronounced dead. darby boro police chief bob smith called the part-time officer a star on the force will be missed. >> he was an even tempered nice guy, and anybody that met him, always had a good role for him. you know, he knew how to talk to people and handle people. >> reporter: smith says four year veteran officer was part-time but he had a bright the future on the force because of the high quality of his work. >> it is like we lost a member of our family, needlessly. >> reporter: authorities say that officer was also a yeadon fire fighter, now police say

that reports of domestic disputes had previously been filed from that officer a's home. as for the officer's name it is not yet released pending notification of his family n darby, cherry greg, kyw news radio for cw. three "eyewitness news". a decorated police officer is fighting for his life this morning at a boston hospital, officer john moyna hand is in a medically induced coma after he was shot for the the traffic stop at boston's roxbury neighborhood. forty-one year-old gunman was shot and killed by other officers. police officials say gunfire started after officer moynahand asked the the driver to step out of his car. >> as the the driver is getting out of the motor vehicle you can see his right arm coming up, point blank and shoot officer moynahand right below the the eye. >> two passengers in the car were arrested on unrelated charges and woman at the scene was hit the by gunfire but

she's expect to be okay. three other officers were taken to the hospital with stress-related issues. we're learning more about the the co pilot authorities say intentionally crash the the germanwings passenger jet in the french alps last week. cbs news correspondent alan pizzey has the latest from that co pilot's hometown. >> reporter: figuring out why co pilot andreas lubitz acted as he did is proving complex. german media quoted unknown sources assaying he was suffering from a eye problem that could have a affect his job that police found medicines for psychological illnesses at the two residents and he was treated by both psychologist and neurologists. flight crews are supposed to report illness that he is could affect their performance but it is voluntary. lufthansa first officer marcus vol is spokesmen for the german pilots association. >> if the person in question wants to conceal things he said lying and suicidal thoughts cannot be prevented by any tests.

lubitz is no longer able to hide anything it seems. germany's leading tabloid quoted a former girl friend saying that he told her that one day quote, everyone will know my name. on the slopes of the mountain below the crash site family members made their way to a memorial plaque today. area was closed to all but them. in a nearby village local people held a service to deal with the trauma that they too suffered. to honor victims and support their families. it is terrible. horrible for families this woman said. there are in word for that. i'm broken. retrieving bodies at day break and tending to the crash site in france will take weeks. each red flag marks a body part, so far several hundred have been found. they will be identified through dna testing and dental analysis. allen pizzey cbs news

one. well, back on "eyewitness news" and before we go a quick recap of this morning's headlines right here on cbs 36789 a darby boro police officer is dead after a shooting at his home. it happened yesterday afternoon, in glenn olden delaware county investigators say there will be homicide charges filed later today. the officer's name has not been released. police in north philadelphia are searching for this suspect who barged into a home on west erie avenue early this morning. twenty-five year-old home owner was stabbed and robbed he is now stable, at temple university hospital. and, one man is in einstein hospital after this fire on east ashmed street not far from lasalle university. victim was treated for smoke inhalation, the cause of that fire, is under investigation. carol's back with us now one last look at the five day. >> you know what.
