this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". if you feel like you sit in traffic for most of your day, you might not be that far off. philadelphia has been named one of the worse traffic cities in the u.s. how much time the average driver spends in their car and how it compares to other cities across the country more on that coming up in just a moment. good morning everyone, keeping an eye on our weather also snow for certain parts of the region today. >> certain parts. >> certain parts. >> not everywhere. >> let's chill out little bit now, it will be okay. here's katie good morning. >> take a deep breath, hang on let's explain. yes, there is a disturbance that's rolling on through and yes, you know, we talked about this yesterday. it is still the time of year where if it comes in with the appropriate timing, if it comes in when we just had cool pool of thayer was sent our bay, yes, could you still find some snow. so it is not the most unheard of thing. but let me be clear. philadelphia you do not have to worry about snowflakes

today. nor does the shore, southern new jersey, nor does delaware. it is really unless go into the far north and west suburbs, lehigh valley, and as you perhaps are traveling that pa turnpike westbound, out toward central pa or the poconos, that you have got any shot to see snow. but you can see right now this disturbance already creeping in to western pa, that there is a little hint of wintery weather with it. but it is early in the morning for those guys. so by the time this reaches us, your going to need some cold air. i mean, talking about this arriving by the afternoon so, the coldest spots for that, again, all of those places i mentioned moment ago. but up toward the poconos primarily a snow event. so you have got the possibility to pick up up to 2 inches out of this, hence winter weather advisories posted take effect at noon today. 40 degrees currently in nil. even if we had wet weather right in you it would come in as rain. further north you go, it is cold enough. so region by region, we go, talking little bit after variety pack of weather-related issues today but for everybody, the precipitation does come this afternoon, and it will linger into this evening.

jess, we stent over to you. >> just happy we're dry right now. 5:31, we start things outright on the vine street expressway. where currently dealing with no problems. either way. so headlights are eastbound this is just approaching broad street. no problems as well if you are headed westbound. everything moving along just fine currently on the ben franklin bridge, from the jersey side, this is actually from the toll plaza westbound lanes right here headed into the city. you can see no problems there. and not real a lot of traffic or volume trying to head into jersey at this time. we're still dealing with building fire, house fire actually, that's under control out in conshohocken west first avenue, though still closed between maple and for cents. take elm street to get on by. some ongoing road work due to sinkhole on plymouth road, still closed between the blue route and but the her pike for the sinkhole repair. take germantown pike to get on by that scene. as for mass transit everything running on time no delays. dealing with shuttle bussing for septa's route 36 trolley. currently no delays at the philadelphia international airport, as well. ukee, back to you.

"eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us now overlooking the schuylkill expressway everyone's favorite, one of the best place toss see just how bad traffic can get. oh and it gets bad out there. justin, good morning. >> it does, erika ukee, good morning. gps maker tom has monday order traffic data from the year 2014 they've found we are the 20th most congested metro in the u.s. that means if you have a half hour commute each year, you're spends being 70 hours in traffic not going anywhere. of course the longer your commute, the worse and the more time you are spending behind the wheel. take a look at the 76, so far so good. we know it gets a lot worse though. let's take to you video of course the highlights and low lights of this study. the study finds your heaviest traffic days in the morning are going to be thursdays

folds by wednesdays, as for your evening commute, also thursday, a rough day leaving work, and friday, followed right hine. your easiest days are going to be monday mornings, no surprise followed by friday evenings. now, the average commute again, 30 minutes that means you're spends being 18 minutes in delays. and in the philadelphia metro area. perhaps your trickiest commute day, 2014, was january 20th. perhaps that rings a bell for you. now, do your short cut. actually may it, may not. turns out your highways are less congested than your non-highways. and, of course, no surprise, drivers are bringing their road rage and frustrations into work. take a listen. >> the productivity goes down, people already exhausted from white knuckle commuting into work or they're late. nobody's happy about that. and everyone's less productive. >> traffic around here is definitely ridiculous. even for a living. driving around, picking up stuff, for the restaurant i work at, being in center city, and you can't move, what

lock-down at storms, the hallways looking for what they say is an active shooter. somewhere on the hospital grounds there. this is i know the fairfax hospital in falls church virginia. cbs news has learned, the incident began around 3:00 a.m., when a prisoner escaped custody and may have gotten his hands on a gun. we're told shots were fired though at this point, it is not known who fired those shots or if anyone was hurt. but once again, an active shooter situation. this is at a hospital in falls church virginia. stay with "eyewitness news" we will keep on top of the situation and bring you the latest updates as soon as we get them. two temple university football players are supposed to appear for a preliminary hearing today. dion dawkins and hasan reddick are charged with attack ago student at night club on january 18th. charges against dawkins and reddick include aggrivated assault. >> also scheduled for a preliminary hearing, 17 year old ivan charged in the fatal

shooting every his classmate james becker. philadelphia police say he thought the gun he had was empty, when it went off in his kensington home on march 5th. investigators say he found the gun on the street in his neighborhood just few days earlier. your time is now 5:37. in business news this morning amazon wants to be everything to everybody. >> bit ambitious. >> i know. >> also what will power the markets today. money market jill wagner has that and more. >> good morning, ukee, erika. wall streets hoping for another rally today after strong economics reports on consumer spending and housing yesterday the the dow jumped 263 points, nasdaq gained about 56. testify will stocks soared on word of new product. but not what you might expect. ceo elan must being tweeted the company will be unveiling new major new product line next month and it isn't an electric car. so some think it could be a large battery that uses solar

>> fire tears through ho along first avenue in conshohocken, montgomery county p firefighters stay appears it started in the back of the home, but so far investigators have not determined the cause. there were no injuries. charges could be filed as early as this morning, in the shooting death of off duty darby police offer, mark hudson. hudson was shot inside his own home in glenolden delaware county saturday afternoon. >> negotiations continue at this hour, as iran's nuclear talks approach a deadline. us secretary of state john kerry, wants a framework that would ease international sanctions in exchange for limits on iran's nuclear capability. 5:43, traffic and weather together. here's kate. >> i good morning, ukee, everyone, we start things off here with a look at the eyewitness weather watcher

work with, sipping right along, over the canadian border across from the dakotas yesterday. this thing has definitely got some legs, moving along very speedily, looks like it will be arriving here this afternoon. primarily rain, for philadelphia, the immediate vicinity, new jersey, southern new jersey, and then points into delaware, but if you go far enough west, in toward that say central pa area, amish country on the pa turnpike, lehigh valley, pocono area, that's where you are likely to see some snow mix in, maybe even picking up quick coating out of t by tomorrow it is out of here, london, in fact, later tonight, then nice spike on the thermometer for us to wrap up the week. jess, over to you. >> thank katie. look being forward to. that will good morning, everybody, 5:45, outside on the schuylkill expressway. you can see an accident with police activity on the scene also involving a tractor-trailer. so this is from the eastbound schuylkill to the onramp to the vine street expressway. so little bit of back-up. you can see right behind that as one lane squeezing on by taking out the left hand shoulder part of the next lane

over. so, one lane getting by therefore right now, we'll keep you updated. ninety-five right around cottman avenue, starting to see a little bit of accumulation in the southbound lanes, through the work zone, definitely typically jammed spot. so headed into the center city area we'll keep you updated there as well as it will probably start to pack in a punch next half hour, 45 minutes or so. otherwise check on the jersey majors, everything doing fine, 295, into 42, delaware memorial bridge no problems. southbound no problems on the 42 freeway head the northbound will take but six minutes to get to the walt whitman bridge. on route 55, 322 into 42, only about nine minutes, if you are headed northbound, still dealing with a building fire out in conshohocken, so west first avenue still closed although the fire is under control between maple and forest. take elm street to get on by that clean up scene for right now. back to you. >> he wanted to make customers smile when he pumps their gas. wawa employee said he used all kind of props to make him laugh. >> but christine sloan shows that you one toy got him

fired. >> my little friend. >> wearing a tuxedo and clown nose was part of mark's routine while pumping gas at this wawa gas station on route nine in howell, new jersey. >> whatever i do, i make fun my kids call my fun dad. i created a smile with a icon tact before you came into my area because i came. >> miss props including glasses, with disco balls and trade to deliver receipts made customers laugh at least for two years, but recently a passenger in a van not amused with this toy, that squirts water to simulate urinating. he used to clean the side mirror of the van. >> again, i didn't see her there. the driver was excepting it. and i sincerely apologized for not meaning any harm or disgust or disgrace. >> the passenger whose identity the company will not reveal complained, and he was fired, even though cuz owe said he regularly used the toy. >> i would ask if there were kids in the car it, okay if i use this?

52 degrees our expected high in the city meanwhile today. so again too mild for anything but rain, then, by tomorrow, the sun is back, we look ahead to thursday, nice spike on the thermometer. and that sun will return, yet again. jess, over to you. >> thanks, katie. good morning everybody taking a check out in new jersey, starting to see just little bit of volume here on the 42 freeway, if you are headed northbound, see starts to gather little ways back, northbound lanes from depford on up. that's a typical jam spot, as well many checking on the rest of everything in new jersey, 295, southbound, 28 minute trip from 42 into elder memorial bridge. just took a look at 42, no peel problems there. fifty-five, no problems headed northbound 322 all the way into the 42 freeway, will only take you nine minutes still pretty clear. dealing with pretty serious accident situation now on the schuylkill expressway, from the schuylkill eastbound to the vine st. expressway ramp you can see some fire engines on the scene there police activity completely blocking off this ram for right now also involviving a tractor-trailer, so we'll definitely keep you updated on that situation. stay there.
