developments for us in the cbs3 sat center. natasha. >> senator menendez came out swinging tonight in a fight for his political career. fiercely denying any wrongdoing. >> i am not going anywhere. >> defiant senator robert menendez asserting his innocence vowing to fight federal corruption charges he's now facing. >> i'm angry and ready to fight because today contradicts my public service career and my entire life. >> reporter: after near three year investigation menendez and salomon melge in were indicted wednesday. federal prosecutors say menendez accepted gifts from political donor and friend in exchange for using the power of his senate office to benefit mel ge inform personally and financially. he claims the allegations are political motivate. >> i always conducted myself in accordance with the law. >> according to the indictment between january 2006 and 2013 menendez allegedly accepted

close to million dollars worth of lavish gifts and campaign contributions from melgen. investigators have also focused in part on plane trips menendez took to the dominican republic as a guest of melgen and he took steps to support the tourist and student visa applications of three of melgen's girlfriends no answer at senate menendez's south jersey office in barrington. some new jersey residents were concerned about the allegations. >> it doesn't surprise me. but i don't really believe until i know the facts if it really helped with menendez or not. >> it doesn't surprise you any more. just wondering if it's him who else has been doing it that hasn't got caught yet. >> mixed reaction from fellow new jersey politicians. senator cory booker is standing behind menendez saying "i won't waiver in my commitment stand alongside my senior senator so to serve our great state. >> "everybody deserves the

a group of firefighters talked that suspect down convinceing gnome give up his gun and ultimately surrender. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is live for us in elkins park to take us inside that firehouse where this drama unfolded. david. >> reporter: chris jamal robinson told me he could have easily been killed in the basement much this building behind me. he wants to move past this incident and tolls me he has already forgiven his former colleague. that's jamal robinson calmly walking to safety after detectives say he and three others were held hostage by his former colleague paul jordan. >> he had pretty much no emotion emotions. he didn't look like he was there and i didn't -- i knew that wasn't the paul jordan i met a year ago. >> reporter: robinson is a proud u.s. marine and told "eyewitness news" he was minding his own business when jordan walked in with a gun. that's when robinson said his battle instincts quickly killed in to gear. >> don't panic in certain situations, you know they show

us how to, you know, look for certain things and at that time i really didn't panic. >> reporter: police say paul jordan recently lost his job at the fire department, and he fired one shot into the wall. >> when he fired the shot into the wall, he clearly said, you know the neck one won't misreport report moments later robinson's luck changed. he gave me a gesture with the firearm and told me to get out of there. >> robinson's boss made itaipu side to check on his men. >> kept getting angrier. there was no reason for him to live any more. >> jamal robinson has a long list of people to thank he has no ill will toward paul jordan. >> he clearly has problem that we can see and he clearly needs help. there's no hard feelings. i'm home safe with my familiar and feeling pretty good right now. >> reporter: some of the firefighters say that paul jordan actually made a call from prison to apologize again we are told that jamal robinson accepts that policy he's looking forward to getting back to work much the firefighters here will be back to work starting early tomorrow morning. we're live in elkins park david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news".

>> david, thank you. developing now police in mercer county shoot a man who investigators say was stabbing his father and had attacked his mother. this story is unfolding on the 1600 block of nottingham lane in hamilton. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco has the latest development development. >> reporter: police remain outside the 600 block of nottingham lane crime tape is up and the investigation continues late into the evening. after police shoot a man inside his parent's home. >> very unsettling. >> reporter: police say the 36-year-old man was attacking his parents. stabbing his father with a knife when police arrived. >> the officers met the suspect. advised him several times to drop the knife while he was stabbing an individual. did he not drop the knife and the officers used force to prevent any further injury to the victim. >> reporter: neighbors heard the commotion after 5:00 o'clock wednesday at this end unit and called 911. >> all of a sudden, cop cars passing me by. sirens you had to keep pulling

over and by the time they got done about 10 of them went by me. >> reporter: when officers arrived the man had already injured his mother and was on top his 55-year-old father he had stabbed him repeated repeatedly. >> the father was stabbed multiple times in the back. one in the head and once below the eye. and the mother had also received several wounds to her arms and hand and face. >> reporter: the man in and his parents were taken to capitol health regional trauma center where the father is now in critical condition. the suspect is now in police custody. there is no word on his condition. the two officers involved have been temporarily reassigned while police conduct their investigation. in hamilton township, mercer county diana rocco cbs3 cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> new tonight a community comes together to remember the darby borough officer murdered in his home. family friends and colleagues prayed and lit candles to honor officer mark hudson. on saturday the 26-year-old hudson was shot and killed

inside his glenolden home. his girlfriend tie anna finch is charged with his murder. she's currently behind bars. chopper three over an apartment fire in trenton this afternoon. the flames broke out on the third floor at 528 bellevue avenue. the fire reached four alarms before it was brought under control. no one was injured there. but 20 people have been displaced by the flames. the cause of the fire is under investigation. well a gruesome confirmation from montgomery county tonight that a husband killed his wife with a chainsaw. and then turned it on himself. chris pep pelman and his wife nicole died from stomach wounds. their bodies later found by their oldest son inside their home on country line -- country lane yesterday. the two leave behind that boy and two other children. just in tonight septa police tell "eyewitness news" that in just the past hour they issued an arrest warrant for the person they say sucker punched a 66-year-old man on the platform

of the 15th street station. that attack happened monday and septa tells us tips and facial recognition software helped them identify their suspect. >> take look at this dramatic video from a police dash cam it gives i was look at an officer risking his life to save others. the officer rammed his cruiser head on into a car that was traveling the wrong way on an interstate near nashville. both the officer and the driver of the car suffered minor injuries. the driver we're told is facing charges. tonight we're hearing from the cumberland county prosecutor's office about the investigation into the death of a man who was in the custody of vineland police. family members say philip white was not armed when he died in police custody on tuesday. police call white's death an in custody non shooting death. we do know there was a struggle between white and an officer on west grape street. the prosecutor's office has released a statement that says events that transpired between

the time of the officer's arrival and white's transport to the hospital are under investigation. they also sad an autopsy is pepping. new at 11:00 police officers in glassboro give "eyewitness news" a first-hand look at their new body cameras. all uniform patrol officers are wearing the cameras as of today. there was a trial period in which the department evaluated cameras from several manufacturers. officers will record all contact with citizens ton night they displayed their new cameras for our cameras. >> i welcome it. i think it's going to be a great advantage for us as police. you know, get rid of all that he said she said because it's going to be right there on video. the camera doesn't lie. >> there are some situations though in which body cameras may be turned off by the officer. those include sexual assault and domestic violence investigations as well as medical emergencies. well, for more than a decade a youth gymnastics booster club but their financial trust in the hands of one woman. >> tonight disturbing accusations are coming to light.

four people were killed, 16 workers injured after this fire

broke out on a mexican owned oil platform in the gulf of mexico. the company says hundreds of workers had to be evacuateed. firefighters spread out among eight fire boats. they spent most of the day fighting those intense flames. it's unclear at this point if any oil spill in the gulf. >> new york city police are investigate a road rage incident involving one of its detectives and uber driver. >> i don't have what you have to say. >> okay. >> do you understand that. >> i do. >> how long have you been fifth country? >> almost two years. >> almost how long? >> two years. >> two years. i got news for you. use this lesson. remember this in the future. don't ever do that again. >> okay. >> the detective is accused of of berating the uber driver after pulling him over for honking at him. a passenger used smart phone to record every word. that detective is a* member of the intelligence division and uber says it's happy the nypd is looking into that incident. well new at 11:00 o'clock night the long-time treasurer of

a bucks county gymnastics booster club is accused of of stealing $160,000 from the children it benefited. authorities say the theresa foot oversaw the finances of the bucks gym two booster club in falls township for 12 years. police launched an investigation into the alleged theft after she resigned in december. the club's president says that he discovered some unauthorized transactions that were tied to foot. >> i feel bad for the parents and the families that it affected. and also for the owners because they're wonderful people here. >> for the gym to lose money they seem a nice well organized gym. been here a long time. it's a tragedy i think. >> foot is charged with theft. she's free tonight on $100,000 bail. well a big unveiling in atlantic city for a project that some say could be a game changer moving the town away from gameing gaming. philadelphia developer bart black steen unveiled his vision for transforming the half empty

40 degrees. jim reporting in media 40. go down to delaware where temperatures are ranging from about 35 degrees to the south to a little bit milder in the 40s to the north. at least they're reporting in temperature of 45 degrees with moonlit skies. beautiful evening. take a look outside our center city studios beautiful as well. liberty one liberty two and beautiful skyline with a clear sky and temperatures that are falling at a pretty good clip. our live neighborhood network shows the highs for the day philadelphia international 56. haddon heights 55. at henderson high in west chester 55 in hokessin 54. not a huge range in temperature today from north to south. philadelphia still holding on to 45 degrees. but ac at the airport 37. in the poconos cold, feeling like winter with temperatures only in the 20s. there is some warmth to the south, and some to the west. so we will be seeing temperatures really boosting everywhere during the day tomorrow.

high pressure collides slides off the coast an louse the mild air up the eastern seaboard. we'll be in that warm sector ahead of a cold front but with the warm front well to the north and keeping it dry. a few clouds moving in before sunset. the rain arrives during the day on friday and we'll see whipping winds, 30, 40 miles an hour gusts out of the south as this cold front really drives toward the east. some showers moving through with a cold front and then once that moves out, the winds turn northerly. it's little bit cooler for saturday but notice the white up through new york and new england they will see snow we just see the rain. thankfully. friday we do expect periods of rain up to about an inch. gusty winds and temperatures approaching 70 degrees. at least it is a warm wind for a good friday. overnight mainly clear seasonal low temperature around 39 degrees. during the day tomorrow, just a beautiful day. the winds become gusty in the afternoon. otherwise it's sunny it's warm, temperatures well into the 60s. on the exclusive "eyewitness weather" seven day forecast 69 for good friday.
