>> ♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> right now at 6 o'clock a final salute today. a community came together to remember a darby borough police officer who was killed inside his home. good evening i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining you. fellow police officers and firefighters joined family and friends today for a very emotional service to honor officer mark hudson. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandra hoff has more on the tribute from delaware county.

>> ♪ >> reporter: it may have tried but the heavy winds could not shake the heavy hearts lining the entrance of saint joseph church in collingdale friends family fire and law enforcement from across the region joined for a final farewell to 26-year-old darby borough police officer mark hudson. >> i think he makes other 26-year-olds need to step it up a little bit. for being 26 years old he's accomplished a lot. officer hudson was off duty when he was shot inside his home one week ago. investigator say hudson was trying to break up with his live in girlfriend 27-year-old teyona finch. finch faces first and third degree murder charges. as a young man officer hudson participate in there the boy scouts and acknowledged dodge trouble as a teen by volunteering at the yeadon fire department. the chief was one of his mentors. how are you going to get

through. >> together. we'll talk about it. we'll cry together and grieve together but biggest way and the best way we're going to get through this is telling stories about mark, reliving all the memories we have and remembering that great smile that he had. >> reporter: everyone we spoke with said the same thing, that the true story of officer mark had hudson is now how he died but how he lived. >> a good story to tell in the tragedy, a good story to tell. we hear so many bad things but he is leaving such a good story for our african-american community especially our men. he was just -- he's our hero. >> reporter: reporting in delaware county, alexandria hoff, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> developing now police are searching for the driver who hit and killed a pedestrian and then drove away. this happened late friday night in the northern liberties section of philadelphia. police say a 24-year-old man was crossing the street on the 900 block of delaware avenue when he was struck. he was pronounced dead at the

scene. investigators say the vehicle is black or dark colored. anyone with information should contact philadelphia police right away. turning to our weather and the winds really whipping out there today. "eyewitness news" along the ben franklin parkway. you could see the flags blowing in the wind showing just how strong the winds got today but at least the sun is out. it's shining. so, we can at least stay dry for easter sunday we hope. meteorologist justin drabick joins us now with the first forecast. hey, justin. >> natasha at least it's dry and the sunshine is out. that's going to be the trend through the rest of the holiday weekend. so enjoy easter sunday. still a little breezy sunday afternoon. right now winds still gusting to around 40 miles per hour in philadelphia, 28 in allentown. it's a northwest wind so it knocked the temperatures down a little bit compared to yesterday but we're going to warm it up again as we head through the easter sunday day as temperatures rise above 60 degrees. here we are 57 at the airport 40 in mount pocono, 52 in the reading. these winds will relax a little bit overnight so we'll call it breezy through the

overnight hours. 51 in doylestown, 50 quakertown. you'll need to dress a little bit warmer later tonight if you're heading out late and may have that heavier coat because the winds may bring some wind chill values down into the 30's across the delaware valley. cloud free skies right now across the region. we had the storm exiting new england right now so clearing out nicely so we'll keep things dry on storm scan3. not a bad finish to the holiday weekend. here's your easter sunday forecast. sunshine and clouds, above average temperatures, 64 degrees. still little bit on the breezy side but overall looks like your easter egg hunts in the morning will stay dry. so around the rest of the region if you're at the shore windy there on sunday afternoon, temperatures in the upper 50's. clouds roll in late in the day in the poconos, could be a stray shower overall partly sunny skies. highs in the upper 40's. we'll break down your easter sunday a little bit more and show you more rain chances returning in the seven day. that's all coming up in a few minutes. natasha, back to you. >> thank you justin. stay one step ahead of the forecast this holiday weekend with the cbsphilly weather

app. it's free, it's available now on itunes and google play. we've got some breaking news right now an atv accident has left a 15-year-old fighting for his life in a cobbs creek neighborhood of philadelphia. police say the boy was riding an atv at the corner of 58th street and cobbs creek parkway when he hit another atv rider. he's been air lifted to children's hospital of philadelphia critical condition. there's no word on the other rider's conditionally we'll stay on top of this story and bring you the latest. a home grown terror suspect if north philadelphia is sitting in a cell at the federal courthouse. exclusive video shows police arresting 30-year-old keonna thomas at her home on north tenth street. prosecutors say she exxony conspired with isis fighters to join the group and told them she wanted to be a "martyr for the cause." thomas' next court date is set for wednesday. the terrorist group behind

thursday's attack on a college campus in kenya is vowing their will be more violence. meantime we're also hearing from a survivor. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette has details on this investigation and now the search for the mastermind. >> reporter: the somalian islamic extremist group al-shabaab says there will be more attacks like the one at garissa university college that killed 148 people. the group said in an on high pressure statement "kenyan cities will run red with blood. ." kenya's president said that his administration will respond in the severest ways possible. >> we will do everything to defend our way of life. >> reporter: police rescued a 19-year-old woman saturday morning who survived the attack by hiding in award robe and covering herself with clothes. >> i was scared. >> reporter: she initially refused to come out even rescuers arrived. another student played dead.

>> i under the blood of my colleague and pretended to be dead. they turned me around, they kicked me. >> reporter: in a nar robe bee stadium anxious relatives waited for news about their missing loved ones. >> you don't know whether he's alive. we don't know whether he's dead. whether he's hiding somewhere. >> reporter: police paraded the bodies of the four gunmen killed on thursday by government forces before a crowd of a couple thousand. five people are under arrest and there's a $220,000 bounty for the man believed to be the mastermind of the attack. wendy gillette for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> two people are forced from their home after fire rips through a ming knee mart in kensington. fire crews were called to the 1900 block of east cambria street about 3 o'clock this morning. an upstairs apartment was evacuated. fortunately no one was injured. the cause of this fire is still under investigation. and on this holy weekend several city religious groups joined in a march against

poverty. on north broad street philadelphia interfaith clergy leaders and the mlk dare coalition marched together against economic injustices. their aim is to bring attention to this social problem that continues in philadelphia. on the 47thth anniversary of martin luther king jr. assassination. >> we're continuing the legacy of the poor people's campaign. wanted to lift up the need for $15 right to unionize and full employment in the city of philadelphia. >> organizers say today's march was a a precursor to a nationwide strike by fast food workers set for april 15. still ahead on "eyewitness news" chaos caught on camera. a huge brawl breaks out inside a casino. what eyewitnesses say started this wild fight. plus a treat for sky gazers.

your ideas to i-team at cbs3.com. >> flooding in kentucky has turned deadly. a woman whose car was swept into a swollen creek friday was found dead today. initially authorities thought a child was also in the car but they now believe the woman was alone. severe storms earlier this week swamped the state triggering flash floods in several locations. and caught on camera here, a huge brawl erupts inside a casino in queens. the video shows people hurling chairs and throw punches as innocent bystanders try to avoid injury. an eyewitness reportedly says someone cutting in line to buy a drink started this kind of chaos. so far three people have been arrested. tens of thousands of basketball fans have flocked into indianapolis for the final four this weekend and gay rights advocates are using this tournament spotlight to raise awareness about lgbt rights. today protesters marched in

front of lucas oil stadium push pouring state legislation to bar discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. the move comes after indiana passed a now revised law that had briefly allowed businesses to refuse service to customers on religious grounds. it may be saturday but students at philadelphia youth orchestra were hard at work this morning. >> ♪ sounds greater. the orchestra rehearsed before an upcoming concert with the indigo girls. this is the first time that the grammy winning folk rock band will perform with the youth group and the kids say they can't wait for the big show. >> i'm excited. i think it's going to go real well. we have been working on the music for awhile so yeah it will be great. i've never done anything before with a grammy winning artist or in the realm of pop orchestra so it will be really interesting to see how it turns out. >> the orchestra performs with the indigo girls on sunday

april 12th at the kimmel center. it didn't last very long but a total eclipse of the moon this morning still dazzled. early risers in the western united states and canada, they got a glimpse just before dawn. the moment when the moon was completely obscured by earth's shadow lasted just minutes making it the shortest lunar eclipse of the century. wow. that was amazing to see. justin unfortunately we here on the east coast couldn't see that eclipse sadly enough but pretty amazing sight to see on video. >> just a few seconds you blink and miss it. back here at holmdel valley not a bad day overall. a little on the windy side. we'll check in with the weather watchers. holding temperatures in the mid-50's which is pretty close to near average for this time of year this time of night but the winds still going to be an issue through the evening and even overnight hours. sustained winds in landenberg, gary has 20 miles per hour out of the northwest n reading michael also almost at

30 miles per hour, down in the coast ocean city james at 22 miles per hour sustained winds, 19 in robbinsville as stephen checks in. douglas southampton new jersey sustained wind coming in at 16, little bit less as you head into cardington pennsylvania and clementon new jersey. also we have a picture i do want to show you sent in by barbara lane as the easter bunny has arrived at her house. happy easter from the lanes. sky hanging out in the sunlight pretty good place to be in the warm rays. let's take you to the shore people enjoying the holiday down there this weekend. in the sunshine now the boardwalk in ocean city people walking around enjoying a nice evening in south jersey, little bit cool with that breeze blowing out of the northwest. now, let's talk about those winds. through the evening hours sustained at about 20 miles per hour, gusting to near 40 over the next few hours. will come down a little bit through the overnight. tomorrow morning will be sustained out of the southwest about 10 to 15. that starts to bring in a

warmer air mass. the wind picks up for the afternoon. here's 3 o'clock. sustained winds around 20ly we could be having higher gusts as well. temperature-wise compared to yesterday at this time we are colder. anywhere from three to 16 degrees colder as that storm exited the region. in flow of northwest wind starting to bring in the cooler air mass from canada. so our 57 at the airport, 40 in mount pocono, 53 trenton. there's cooler air to our north, upper 40's pittsburgh. that cold air will filter in tonight as those temperatures drop down into the 30's. that's not even factoring in the wind. at least we're dry. high pressure builds in for the rest of the weekend. a stray shower tomorrow for the poconos but most areas stay dry. there's that front staying to our north. as long as it stays to the north we'll be on the mild side. sunshine will bring us back to the low and mid 60's for your easter sunday and that front still to the north on monday even warmer temperatures be approaching 70 degrees, so

good baseball weather for the home opener. then finally the front starts to sag south side ward tuesday and that's its when we're going to see more clouds and some showers and this front kind of lingers over the region for much of next week bringing us a wet forecast. i'll show that you in the seven day but the jet stream is on the. little bit avenue cool pocket over us today. the jet starts to move northward. notice a little bump or ridge in the jet stream that continues to push northward over the next several days. that allows that warmer air to build back in. looks like we have some consistent springtime weather in our forecast ahead. tomorrow morning waking up sunrise services yeah you'll be in the sunshine, 7, 8 o'clock mostly sunny conditions, maybe a few clouds move into the north mid late afternoon. a shower or two up in the poconos but everyone else stays dry. monday looking good. 3 o'clock that's the first pitch at the phillies and red sox game, looks good, maybe just a few clouds around but temperatures mild and then here we go tuesday the clouds and the showers start to roll in during the morning and afternoon hours. not an all day washout but

you'll need the umbrella around for middle of next week. temperatures tomorrow morning 7:00 a.m., 30's to the low 40's. it may feel a little bit colder when you factor in the wind. not a bad rebound for your easter afternoon. low and mid 60's for the highs. look what happens monday warming up even more, upper 60's maybe even 70 degrees in some spots especially south and east of the city. breezy overnight, 40 for center city, colder in the suburbs. sunday forecast sunshine and clouds breezy with a high of 64 and we'll check out that phillies forecast on monday, the homeowner, again first pitch, 65 degrees. you can't beat that, 67 by 5 o'clock by the end of the game we'll hold it in the mid 60's and we'll get the game in with the dry conditions. here we go the extended forecast. a lost 60's showing up the next several days, upper 60's monday, tuesday but tuesday we bring those showers in here. gets a little cooler wednesday and thursday, in the 50's. wednesday still a chance for a shower. i think thursday stays dry but by the end of the week we're back into the mid to upper

60's for next friday and saturday but still you're going to need the rain jacket and umbrella. so april showers in the forecast coming up. >> but at least it's mild. >> phillies home opener going to be a good day. we'll love that. let's check in with beasley since you're talking about baseball. >> thanks a the l phillies manager ryne sandberg said the final exhibition games were important. he wanted good baseball as they head to the season opener on monday. ben revere with a walk off home run yesterday. today revere back at it again. before the games fans needing a lift from the parking lot to the stadium had a special driver. yes, that's ben revere. making sure everybody got to the game on time. phillies get on the board first. that's chase utley right up the middle. ben revere and herrera score. phillies take a quick two-nothing lead. chase with a very good spring. ryan howard rips one to first and then pirates end up botching the play. ben revere who is done driving the fans in from the lots scores to make it five-nothing. still in the second inning carlos ruiz with a single to the left side. herrera scores.

the phillies win their final exhibition game six to four. here's the manager. >> what i'm anxious for is to have the final roster and to get everybody together for opening day after a long spring training. i think that's really the main thing on my mind right now is to get those 25 guys nailed down, get us together as a group on monday and start the season. >> the flyers playing out the string on the road today against carolina, just four more games left in the season. second period we'll pick it up flyers down two-nothing. then the comeback begins. michael raffl with the power play goal. two-one flyers. to the third now the flyers running out of time to tie it up with under two minutes left. sean couture with the game. that would send the game to overtime. neither team scores in overtime so that sent the game to a shootout where the flyers have been terrible. flyers lose three-two in the

shootout. fly guys finish the season with just 10 wins on the road, 10, 20 and 11. the sixers also in the carolinas they'll take on the hornets tonight. they've lost four in a row, 18 of their last 19 on the road. tonight they'll be without thomas robinson, isaiah cannon and jason richardson. after tonight the sixers will have only five games left to play. check this out. chelsea visiting. charlie adam catches the goalie out of position and lets it rip from 65 yards away and it goes in. it bears a second review. this is rare. chelsea would end up winning the game two to one. pga tour, final tournament before the masters patrick read started on the back 9178-yard par 316 and, yeah, it's a hole in one. that put him at minus seven.

badges for baseball today. all for a very good cause. the police baseball team hosting its third annual champions baseball clinic in northeast philly. the event helps special needs children participate in baseball related drills and exercises. officers say the goal is to leave each child with the feeling of pride and accomplishment. we'll be right back.
