>> fcbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". it is easter sunday, and we are live as sunrise service kicks off at one of philadelphia's most historic churches. and developing right now a woman is abducted leaving the center city store where she worked. we'll have the latest on this shocking crime. >> and, a fire so intense, it caused this house to collapse. we're hearing from family members about their lost this morning. today is easter sunday, april 5th, good morning to you, thanks so much for joining us, i'm nicole brewer. it is 6:00. let's sends it over to carol for a check on this east r forecast. >> good morning, it is beautiful out there with the full moon, it is absolutely gorgeous, the temperatures, though nicole, as you know, you came in early this morning, are running a lot cooler we're at 44 degrees

this morning instead of the 55 we found yesterday morning. but, still beautiful out there. let's take a look outside shall we, and find the ben franklin bridge all lit up for easter. we head over to the shore and the sun is going to be coming up very soon, and sunrise services will have a beautiful morning for that. here is a really pretty picture. now, sometimes it is a little dull looking, i have to admit when we look out at the city of philadelphia, this time of the morning. but look at the moon reflecting on the delaware river. just gorgeous. 43 degrees, the temperature out there at the present time. we have not much going on on storm scan3. not really much in the way of clouds. looks like a beautiful day coming up for us. forty-three in philadelphia, right now in the 30's, in our outlying areas winds about 13 miles an hour but they will be gusty again today. we should be finding wind gusts up to 45, or rather, 35 miles an hour, temperatures this afternoon though, much milder than yesterday at 64 degrees. so looks like a terrific

the their resurrection white i see couple of folks coming in right now for the sunrise service. sunrise service is extremely symbolic. it is believed jesus christ rose from the dead easter sunday, with that sunrise it is believed that that is when he actually a rose from the dead. so christians believe in this day, there is going to be a lot of hymns inside of the church this morning the sanction too area will be lit up as folks are celebrating the most important day in the christian calendar. live in society hill, cherri gregg, "kyw news radio", cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> thank if you, appreciate it. >> and developing right now police are investigating a kidnapping in center city. investigators tell us a woman was abducted while leaving a store where she works on jewelers row. 593 year old was taken around 4:00 yesterday interest a parking garage near national watch and diamond on south eighth street. police say her abductors wanted codes to the stores alarm system, then dropped her

off at corner of 84th and lindbergh boulevard in southwest philadelphia. she was taken take to presbyterian medical center some injuries. >> new this morning motorcyclist lands police on chase in montgomery county. there is the scene in plymouth meeting it, all dime an end. state troopers tell us they first tried to pull over the motorcyclist shortly after midnight on i76 westbound when he took off. now, they finally caught up to him after he crashed into a ravine on germantown pike. suspect was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. he is now charged with allude g police. >> also new this morning police are investigating a shooting in west philadelphia. a 46 year old man was shot in the chest and head. it happened in the 4900 block of hoop street around midnight. the victim was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. there is no word on a suspect at this time. >> well, firefighters spent hours battling a house fire in pennsauken, new jersey, but they couldn't save the home. steve patterson spoke with a family member about that lost. >> my god. >> they were the only words corner store owner shot could mirs, peering down from his second floor poor top suffocating smoke, carried by intense wind. firefighters called to the corner of union and stowe in camden county shortly before 3:30 saturday afternoon. arriving to find the house consumed by flames. take a look, you can see the progress from shot surveillance video. flames that started in the home's yard, quickly over took the structure, with winds gusting at 30 miles per hour, overwhelming firefighters. >> interesting few minutes yes. >> one thing after another for the last three years. >> family member carol wood says this is the latest hardship in a series of facing homeowner mary. two years ago her husband died of cancer, a month later had he father died the same way. in september of this year, marcy's son volunteer firefighter kevin, was

diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer. carol's daughters kevin's fiancee. >> we will be -- my daughter also had cancer, she is four years cancer free, and we just keep on beating everything that comes up. we will beat this, too. >> well, no people inside the home at the time of the fire, and collapse, but marcy's dog sophie was inside. unfortunately the dog died in the fire. it was the very same dog that she bought to cope with the loss of her husband the family is planning on doing some on line fundraise whg that happens. we'll let you know when and how to crib. for now though, reporting from pennsauken, i'm steve patterson, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". just heart breaking. now, strong winds here fueled brush fire saturday that injured two philadelphia firefighters. it happened in wissahickon park. winds whipped the flames in a wooded area near the intersection of ridge and northwestern avenues. a fire department source tells cbs-3 that one firefighter was treated for leg pain, another

for back pain. both are listed as stable. there is no word on what caused that fire. well, a person was struck and killed by an amtrak train in sharon him. it happened around 7:00 last night. an amtrak spokesperson says the person was trespassing on the tracks at the time. now, there is no word on the victim's identity. the train was headed from new york city to washington d.c. none of the 318 people on board were injured. >> meanwhile, police still looking for the driver who struck and killed a man then drove away. it happened late friday night outside a northern liberties club. now, police say the 24 year old plan was crossing the street on the 900 block of delaware avenue at that time. he was pronounced dead at the scene. investigators are searching for a black or dark colored vehicle, of course anyone with any information is asked to call police. >> a 15 year old is fighting for his life this morning after atv accident in the cobbs creek neighborhood of philadelphia. police say the boy was riding a atv at the corner of 58th street and cobbs creek parkway yesterday when he hit

well, new morning, the kentucky wildcats lost their bid for a perfect 40 and zero season last night with a lost to the wisconsin badgers. the final game four the ncaa championship is now set to number one seeds, go head-to-head tomorrow night. cbs news correspondent adrianna diaz has the highlights from the final four in indianapolis. >> the kentucky wildcats perfect 38 and zero season came to a screaching halt in indianapolis saturday night. >> could not be more proud of this group of young people. what they did all year, just

took us all on a ride. >> wisconsin badgers beat the wildcats 71 to 64, in a hard fought see-saw battle. now, wisconsin advances to the title game against top seeded duke. >> well, it gives us another 40 minutes, i know that. and believe me, i never talked about trying to break a streak, or get a team that was un beat tone finally beat them. it was all about what these guys could do. >> the badgers started out strong, but kentucky wiped out nine-point lead. the teams went into half time, tied at 36. they came out fighting in the second half, trading baskets and point runs, but in the end, wisconsin avenge dollars last year's one point lost to the wildcats. >> they did to us with a we have done to teams. >> the final four rematch between kentucky and wisconsin did not disappoint. both teams brought thousands of fans to watch them battle it out. the top seeded duke blue devils beat seventh seed

michigan state 81 to 61, in the early semifinal game. the spartans started out strong for the first four minutes, then duke charged in, and took over, and never looked back. the blue devils take on the badgers monday evening. adrianna diaz, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". meanwhile, upset wildcats fans took to the streets setting fires. this was the scene in lexington overnight. so far there are no reports of injuries. >> meantime, as tens every thousands of basketball fans flocked to indianapolis for the championship, gay advocates are using this to raise the lgbt rights. pushing for state legislation barring discrimination based on sexual orientation or jenner identity. the move comes after indianna passed now revised law that had briefly allowed businesses to refuse service to customers on religious grounds. >> well, poverty and economic injustice were the themes for hundreds of protesters

marching up broad street saturday in philadelphia. >> this was the scene as clergy leaders and others made their way north. their goal is to fight for fair wages, and the right to organize unions. with saturday marking the 47th anniversary of doctor martin luther king jr. asomugha as nation, marchers say this day was a way to carry on kings legacy. >> we're continuing the legacy of the poor people's campaign, want to go lift up the need for $15 an hour, right to unionize and full employment here in the city of philadelphia. >> organizers say saturday's march was a precursor to a possible nationwide strike by fast-food workers set for april 15th. all right 6:14, carol we are here on easter sunday, everybody hoping for nice day out and about. what do you think? >> we do have it. it will be warmer than yesterday, and the win comes from warmer direction than yesterday. still going to be windy out

there. and that really marred things yesterday, today much better day, but still breezy one. looks beautiful. the sun is starting to come up in atlantic city, sunrise services are in great shape. you can see how beautiful it looks down in rehoboth beach ocean very quiet. boardwalk at this point is quiet, as well. but just perfect start to easter sunday, 43 in philadelphia cooler than yesterday, we're running some ten, 12 degrees cooler here, and some 20 degrees colder in atlantic city this morning. it is 39 in trenton, 40 in wilmington, 36 millville 37 degrees in allentown, we have the clear skies overnight, so anything we were able to build up heat wise yesterday just oops, up to the space, 64 for our temperature today, it will be sunny most of the time, couple of more clouds maybe later on this afternoon, breezy but still just terrific looking day out there. storm scan3 showing that it is quiet all over our area. notice, these showers they may hang together, just enough, to brush the poconos

with maybe slight chance of picking up rain shower, i'm show that you on our computer model. otherwise, we have great conditions today into the 60s, tomorrow we're really knocking on the door of 70 degrees. we could be -- we could be 70 degrees. but, let's stop it, just for our own psychological benefits we stop it in the upper 60s be pleasantly surprised if it gets warmer than that, then by tuesday still pretty mild around here, the way it looks now but some showers start to come in, especially the second half of the day. and here is that fabled computer model that you wait for every morning. let's put it into motion, and we see not much going on in our area, i stop it at 2:00. only to show some clouds around allentown reading and the chance of some showers in the poconos otherwise this moves onto 7:00. still wants to keep us clear through philadelphia, points south, through the poconos some clouds, and then by tomorrow looks great. phillies game starts at 30:00, a looks like some sunshine at that point. building off to the west, few

clouds, that may be coming in during the course of the game, by the time we get to tuesday afternoon, this looks like the first time we start to see some showers 1:00 o'clock, off to the west, but by 4:00 o'clock, the way it is timing out right now and as we all know by now there is timing can change a lot. but it wants to bring some showers through philadelphia, about 4:00, tuesday afternoon some heavier ones to the north, by tuesday night still some showers over philadelphia, same deal early on wednesday and then we may be finding another shower chance after tuesday as well, that's on the seven day. sixty-four today in philadelphia, nice day. if we could just crank down these winds, it will be even nicer. fifty-eight at the shore winnie there. windy and 55 in the poconos with the slight chance after shower. the phillies, i mentioned them, if you are going to be going to the game, citizens bank park, 65 degrees, when you head into the stadium 5:00 p.m., 67, and by the time you're in the parking lot celebrating the victory over the red sox 66 degrees. our winds gusting to 35 miles an hour today.

that makes 64 feel slightly cooler, but still the wind is from a better direction out of the southwest. forty-two tonight and still breezy until after midnight when the winds calm down. looks great around here monday 68 degrees, tuesday 68, but some showers later in the day. and again, another chance of a shower wednesday thursday, and friday, and maybe saturday. thursday looks to be the coldest day 50, that's the high temperature so kind of crazy week temperature wise, but really not a bad one. nicole? >> carol, thank you. well, it is an amazing story of survival. a man rescued at sea after spending 66 days stranded in the ocean. well, that man lewis jordan was in remarkably good health. as carter evans reports that's led to questions about his story. >> finally back on dry land, 37 year old lewis jordan casually walked past a waiting hospital gorney that he clearly did not need. >> for him to be in his current state was pretty

amazing. >> coast guard aviation survival technician kyle motorcycle cull em helped rescue jordan. >> would you expect sunburn severe sunburn issues that could possibly be wrong with him. >> but jordan had none of those injuries raising doubts about his story. he said he had only planned on short trip when he set sale. but his boat capsized in stormy weather. >> the waves were huge, the win was strong. i'm an inexperienced sailor. i haven't had a lot of time on the water. >> jordan survived with a little luck, and resourceful necessary, his father told cbs news the boat righted itself. so jordan was able to take shelter in the cabin which explains why he wasn't sunburned. there was also an ample supply of canned food on board and when that ran out jordan figured out how to fish without a pole. >> i lured them from their hiding place with a shirt on a rope, i took my hand net right next to them and just scooped them up.

>> he also used buckets and inflatable raft to catch rain water, which almost didn't come in time. >> finally right before i ran out of water finally the conditions were perfect where i was able to collect water. >> jordan said he was almost out of water again when a cargo ship spotted him off the coast of north carolina thursday. while jordan's story is nothing short every amazing it has no reason not to believe him. carter evans cbs news, new york. >> incredible story for sure. 6:20, still ahead story getting a lot of attention on social media. you may have i seen it by now. lost and found in china. a new york city man loses his iphone ends up being tracking it all the way across the globe. now meeting the man who has his phone. we'll hear from them when we come back.

>> toed is easter sunday april 5th. i'm nicole brewer. it is 6:30, we send it over tore carol for this easter sunday forecast. >> it will be as bright and beautiful as your gorgeous yellow jacket. the sun will be out this morning, and it will be out for the rest of the day. it is gorgeous out there right now. we had a very windy day yesterday. i know, if you had to capitalize the weather yesterday, in one word it, would be the wind. that you might have adjective we can't use in front of it, but still, it was really windy yesterday. today, it will be pretty breezy, too. we could be finding wind gusts to 35 miles an hour, but looks beautiful out there. lots of sunshine, clear skies just perfect easter look. as we head down to the shore we go to rehoboth beach. you can see i saw a woman just standing there not that long ago just kind of gaizing out at the ocean beautiful looking day today. now, the storm scan3 not showing any issues whatsoever, so we will be enjoying some great weather with temperatures of 64 degrees,

gregg, live at mother bethel ame church where easter services have already started? >> reporter: this is the 221st easter sunday celebration here at mother bethel ame church. it is one of the oldest, it is excuse me, it is the oldest african methodist episcopal church in the nation. and you can almost hear the music coming out of the sanction too area here about 150 people have gathered here for the sunrise service. which is extremely symbolic. and i spoke to two of the ministers who are part of this symbolic service on their way in today. the sun sunrise service really symbolizes that early morning that we discovered that jesus was no longer in the tomb. so it is a bit of a sacrifice to get up early in the morning, but god well jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice. >> for children, obviously that is great day. they get their easter baskets with candy everything else, for adults, what should make it a special day, when you begin to reflect on the fact

police officer who was gunned down inside his own home. fellow officers, firefighters, friend, and family, held emotional service on saturday to honor officer mark hudson. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff was there. >> it may have tried but the heavy wind could not shake the heavy hearts lining the entrance of st. joseph's church in column inning day. friends, family, fire and law enforcement from across the region, joined for a final farewell to 26 year old darby borough police officer, mark hudson. >> makes owed other 26 year old need to step it up, and for being 26 years old he has accomplished a lot. >> officer hudson was offer duty when fatally shot inside of his glenolden home one week ago. investigators said hudson was trying to break one his live-in girlfriend, 27 year old tie anna finch, when she pulled the trigger. finch now faces first and third degree murder charges. as a young man officer hudson

sitting in a cell at the city's federal courthouse awaiting her next court appearance. this exclusive video shows police arresting 30 year old kianna thomas at her home yesterday on north tenth street. now, prosecutors say she conspired with isis fighters to join the terror group and told them she wanted to be a quote martyr for the cause. thomas' next court date is set for wednesday. >> would now now one of the gunmen in kenya's deadly university attack son of government officer. the attack left 148 people dead, but there are some survivors. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette with more from those victims. >> amal shabab says there will be nor attacks like the one at the college that killed 148 people. the group said in a on line statement, quote, kenyan cities will run red with blood. kenya's president said in a nationally televised address that his administration will respond in the severe ways
