this south carolina former police officer is behind bars locked up on murder charges for shooting an unarmed black man. now we are learning about ties that he had to our area. good morning everyone we're told he lives or live in his old neighborhood where we spoke to somebody who used to know him. it is another damp dreary start to the the day so when will it start to feel like april? monday was so nice. first lets check traffic and weather together. carol, give us an idea. well, would i like to go

this story, slager grew up in south jersey. with more on that lets get to "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao in medford, good morning. >> reporter: erika, good morning. officer slager attended lenape high school here in burlington county in the late 90's. he graduated in 2001 and as you mentioned he is sitting behind bars accused of shooting and killing an unarmed man in south carolina take a lot this video in his old neighborhood. "eyewitness news" caught up with neighbors who knew michael slag inner south jersey. they remember him as a nice young man. this is his 1999 lenaim high school picture was a some of the more then. now he is making headlines for a graphic video. slager is charged with killing walter scott. police say slager fired eight shots at scott unarmed on saturday in north charleston but neighbors here remember slager growing up in mount laurel. they say he was friendly and lived in the area before joining the coastguard and

feel better about themselves. >> they do such a great job over the last decade of putting forward these empowering ads. i love them. >> thanks very much. well, this morning there are new details on the plane crash that killed philadelphia inquirer co-owner lewis katz and six others. katz was heading home to new jersey when his gulf stream jet skidded off a massachusetts runway and burst into flames last may. the national transportation safety board found that the passengers died from the fire after the the initial impact and that a problem with the plane gust lock likely caused the accident. now the gust lock is designed to prevent the the plane's control services from moving in the wind when it is park. attorney mike is representing two crash victims and he says the fact that the gust lock was on should have prevented the plane from reaching take off speeds. >> how did they get to that speed and why didn't the gust lock mechanism work the way it was designed?

at least two people have been shot in the courthouse in milan. the building has been evacuated and police are still looking for the shooter. more updates as they continue to come into our news room. well, office's accused in the deadly south carolina shoot ago tended high school in burlington county. officials say dash cam video could shed light on what led up to that shooting. michael thomas slager is caught on camera shooting an unarmed motorist after a traffic stop. exclusive video those keonna thomas at her arrest in north philadelphia last week. thomas faces a federal why today and accused on trying to join isis. cortez hamilton faces first degree murder charges in the death of his wife keisha hamilton. authorities say he killed her with a ham inner front of their two children. keisha hamilton disappeared in january and her remains have not yet been found. people in missouri are cleaning up this morning after severe storms blow through the midwest, national weather service says a tornado may have caused all this damage
