updates throughout the morning. we could learn more about the deadly police involve shooting in south carolina. authorities planned to release dash cabbing video which could shed more light on what happened before officer michael slager fatally shot an unarmed man. a cell phone video captured the officer shooting walter scott running away. >> i have watched the video and i was sickened by what i saw. >> slager is behind bars charged with murder and he had been fired from the police force. we're also learning this morning that slager grew up in burlington county, new jersey. with more on that head out to "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao who joins us from his old high school in medford, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. officer slager attended lenape high school burlington county in the late 90's and graduated in 2001. today he sits behind bars charged with murder. in 1999, michael slager was a

sophomore at lenape high school this photo from an on line year book. now 33 years old a very different picture. slager, behind bars accused as a a police officer of shooting and killing an unarmed a man. this graphic video captured what happened and has cat palleted the south jersey native in national headlines. on saturday police say slager fired eight shots at walter scott in north charleston south carolina. >> when i saw my son running i saw the policeman behind him, i could not take it. >> you make a bad decision, i don't care if you are behind the the shield or just a citizen on the street you have to live by that decision. >> reporter: news has slager's former neighbors in mount laurel talking. >> it is not nice to see. i don't like to see anyone get hurt. >> reporter: this man asked not to identify him because he was friend with the slager family. >> he moved here when he was 12 i guess. he left, i don't know, five

years later and he went into the coastguards but he was a nice kid the whole time he lived here. >> reporter: he remembers slager as friendly before joining the coastguard and then eventually moving south and becoming a member of the north charleston police department. now, protesters and victim's family are demanding justice. >> if there wasn't a a video, would we known the truth or just go with what was reported earlier? but we do know the the truth now. >> reporter: back here in burlington county another neighbor tells us that the slagers moved out of mount laurel a couple years ago. in the meantime if this officer is quick he faces 30 to life in prison even the the death penalty. we are reporting live from burlington county, new jersey, jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". in other news this morning she's accused of trying to leave philadelphia for syria to be a mortar for isis. this afternoon keonna thomas is scheduled to appear in a courtroom for a detention

"eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us outside the federal courthouse with more justin, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, ukee. thomas was taken, from her home, last friday, and she was hatching a terror plot and thought to be very dangerous for her on line support of ice is and that is what raised red flags saying little last week keonna thomas learn she's accused of trying to travel overseas to join islamic state or isis and sacrifice her own life in the process. prosecutor say that she planned to fly to barcelona spain and make her way to turkey and then syria and join isis. thomas's lawyers were tight-lipped. >> i don't have any further comment. my office was just appointed. we will be prepared next week to proceed on her half. >> reporter: fbi task force and philadelphia police teamed up to take her down. neighbors said cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this cell phone video of thomas cuffed and put in the cruiser. we have obscured faces of the agent.

"eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer joins us live from our studio with more on tsarnaev's conviction, good morning. >> reporter: the government called 92 witnesses over a 15 day period. then after 12 hours of deliberations a jury found dzhokhar tsarnaev guilty of all 30 counts, 17 of which are punishable by death. inside the courtroom the 21 year-old could be seen fidgeting as jurors read his fate. will the same group of people vote to execute him? that is the the question as we await penalty phase face of the trial which has yet to be set. for now many victims of the the boston marathon bombing which claimed three lives and injured more than 250 people say justice has been served and at a least one survivor believes the the verdict will help those in move on with their lives. >> we're obviously grateful for the outcome today. it is not a happy occasion but something we can put one more

we have one week left to file your taxes with the irs. >> if you are one of the procrastinators getting a late start on your taxes, cbs news business analyst jill schlesinger joins with us some last minute tips, jill, good morning to you. >> all right so where is best place to start. >> you better clear your weekend schedule irs estimates it will take you 16 hearst to complete form 1040. so you have to start working on it. only four hours if you are a a 1040ez filer. a couple reminders before you start. file electronically, okay because less than 1 percent of electronic returns have errors compared with 20 percent of paper returns. as a remine are again taxpayers who make $60,000 or less can use the irs free file software, that will help you file your federal taxes. by the the way if you expect a refund you get it faster by e

deductions is really valuable. so check first to see if you can get that. >> before you go what if you can't meet the the deadline. >> don't freak out, file for a six month extension with form 4868 by april 15th otherwise you will face nasty penalties. those penalties, can add up to almost 50 percent of what you owe, okay, five-0 percent. the these extensions they have a major caveat irs gives you extra time to pile but not to pay. estimate your tax liability and pay at least 90 percent of you think you owe to avoid the penalty. if you don't have the money on hand to pay taxes, don't hide apply for a free 120 day extension, use an irs installment plan, make an offer in compromise to the irs or you can use a credit card. i don't love these credit card to pay your taxes because we have fees, some fees up to 2.35 percent. i have got tons of resources, lots of links to all of the

any type of stomach virus. family physician doctor jennifer cuddle is here to answer these questions. good to see you. >> good morning. >> what are they looking at here. >> in terms of the virus we are seeing causing stomach illness a bacteria and this strain is reportedly drug resistant which is a whole other issue in itself. something very important. we talk about stomach bugs. they can be caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites. we talk about how to treat it. it can happen. >> sure, sure. >> how do we protect against it. >> is there a number of things. we talk about the symptoms. what people should look for first. this is really important. when we think of the stomach bugs, what do we get. stomach cramps, abdominal pain diary, vomiting, headache sometimes fever and chills. often times these symptoms or these bugs are self limiting which mean they go away on their own, but sometimes there can be worse symptoms that cause to you see your doctor. high fever, really bad

abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea is not going a way or there is blood, that is concerning. >> you hear it is so miserable. what causes it. you hear a co-worker has it. should you wipe down your desk. >> i'm a big fan of wiping down things. but, you know when we talk bit you mentioned the word stomach flu. we call it stomach flu but it is in the flu at all. it is a gastro interest rights which means a inflammation in the lining of the stomach. it is a yen term. prevention is the the key. how do we get it? we get it from contaminated food, from being around somebody hoist sick, wipe things down. we get from it in the washing our hand properly. those are the ways. san friday, washing our hand, things like that are so so important here good this goes far beyond nausea. >> abdominal pain can be pretty bad. we know people like many other conditions, think about the people who tend to get worse illness are these who are young, very young, elderly, those with weakened immune

systems but those are the symptoms. >> this one strain is resistant to antibiotic. how do you treat it. do we wait it out. >> we are looking at the strain in terms of what is going on and what it may be sensitive too. drug resist tense is a problem. we are fine ago this with many different bugs. it can make it difficult to treat certain illnesses. we talk about general gastroenteritis by viruses and bacteria and stuff. there are some things we can do. it is like we cannot do anything. we need to drink fluid. one thing that happens when we get these stomach bugs we get vomiting diarrhea and we are not drinking fluid we lose fluids. we become dehydrated. you might be eligible for medication. talk tour doctor. get plenty of rest. eat a bland diet. give your stomach some rest. >> mom say give some ginger ale from time to time. >> my mommies big on tea. >> all moms say that. >> doctor jen, thank you. >> appreciate it. incredible to believe that after 50 years at cbs news
