fog and showers this morning and then thunderstorms later on today. vittoria, we sent it over to you. >> thank you so much katie. we have a lot going on in regard to the weather so, let's just jump right outside because we have an overturned vehicle on kelly drive. will set you back this morning, i know it is 5:01, usually don't see too much after rush hour. how much as we look at 76, we are experiencing a squeeze, only the left lane of traffic is allowed to get on by. this is right around gladwynn. again traveling on the westbound side. it is slick out there. and very slippery. as a result of that, kelly drive is an area that i would usually just always advise to avoid. because it causes incidents like this, even in the lightest rain. it is an overturned vehicle on the westbound side of kelly drive, right at sedgley, not too far away from just about the start of boathouse row. so you will want to give yourselves more time traveling in and around the area. i would advise you to avoid it completely, and use martin luther king drive or the schuylkill expressway, as an alternate. we also have fire location, it

was earlier dumpster fire. ukee was talking about this not too long ago on walnut between 39th and 40th. so your best alternates in this area would be market or spruce. no major delays for mass transit. ukee? >> student in university city evacuated earlier this morning because of the dumpster fire. fire sent smoke into the highrise. no reported injuries. that fire once again is under control. >> also, this morning, a house fire in philadelphia's frankford neighborhood to tell you b "eyewitness news" at the scene on the 1700 block of bridge street, one firefighter suffered minor injuries, five people inside did make it out safely. now, officials tell us smoke detectors alerted the resident to the fire in their kitchen. there is no word right now on a cause. developing right now, a security guard shot at the census bureau headquarters in

maryland has died. authorities say that guard id as 59 year old laurence buchner was shot after he was approaching a car and matched description of kidnapped vehicle. a kidnapped suspect's vehicle rather. the shooter then led police on chase through maryland and washington d.c. police eventually cornered that gunman, and wounded him in a shoot-out. well, this morning we are getting a look at how the deadly encounter between south carolina police officer michael slager and walter scott began. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt takes a closer look. >> saturday morning in north charleston, south carolina, 50 year old walter scott satin side his car after being stopped by officer michael slager who pulled scott over for a broken tail light. scott then told officer slager he didn't have the proper insurance paperwork because he was getting ready to buy the car two days later. >> scott told slager the insurance card was with his friend.

>> my car is down. >> officer slager told scott to wait in the car. almost 452nd later walter scott opened his door and began running. officer slager started running after him. his microphone recorded the officer use the word taser three times. >> taser taser, tazer. >> this leads to the next piece of video. this cell phone video where slager pulled out his gun and fired eight times toward walter scott. slager's mother spoke to cbs news. >> i grieve for them. i grieve for us. because this is such a life changer. and it is hard. it is very hard. >> ron who is co-used to head up the fbi criminal investigation division. >> to shoot this victim in the back multiple times while he is merely trying to flee from a non-violent crime is deeply troubling. >> an officer "eyewitness news" has learned grew up in mt. laurel and graduated from lenape high school in medford in 2001.

"eyewitness news" spoke to officer slager's former classmates. >> if i was weak in a subject he would be right there to help me. never would have thought that he had any violence toward anyone. >> but it is these actions on videotape that could put michael slager away for the rest of his life. >> give then set of circumstances, i think a strong case could be made that that's murder. >> walter scott's family said that he fled the scene from officer slager because he was behind on some child support payment, and worried about getting arrested. officer michael slager behind bars, if he is convicted co-face 30 years to life, possibly, the death penalty. david spunt cbs-3 "eyewitness news". well, today members of the clergy in vineland, new jersey, are hosting prayer gathering, hope to bring the community together after a man died in police custody. thirty-two year old phillip white died after going into respiratory distress following his arrest on march 31. his friends say police used excessive force. religious leaders hope the

gathering will offer support to the victim's family. the vineland police as well as the legal process. let's get back to the breaking news right now. several storms that are severe spawned this devastating tornado that you can see right here. >> this happened in northern illinois. at least one person is dead, several more are hurt, and there is damage to an entire town. don champion joins us up in new york where he is tracking the latest development don good morning. >> good morning err came the tornado that hit northern illinois was spawned by a super cell thunderstorm. as one witness said, the tornado tore everything out of its path. >> sirens warned people to take cover in northern illinois thursday evening after at least one large tornado touched down. overnight, crews try assessing the damage in the hard hit towns of rochelle and fair dale, which are about 80 miles west of chicago. >> when it hit definitely we new it hit.

a chester county school bus driver facing criminal charges, accused of leaving a child unattended on his bus for hours. rose hand picked the seven year old girl up from home last week, the only passenger on the van. she never made it to school. investigators say, roseland drove right past that school and then park the van at the craft bus lot. leaving that girl all alone. court documents say that roseland was drowsy after taking over the counter cold medicine and medication, for

this morning. but we will continue to keep you updated. if you are traveling on kelly drive, i usually always suggest avoiding kelly drive in weather like there is because even sprinkle makes itself early slippery. and right now dealing with an overturned vehicle accident, traveling on kelly drive notice the activity here. but it is westbound kelly drive right around sedgley. it is actually just about the start of boathouse row. so, your best alternate would be to take martin martin luther king drive or the schuylkill expressway, definately use some more caution this morning, or take mass transit because that looks fine. >> breaking news right now at least one person was killed and seven others injured when tornado touches down in illinois. officials say every building in that town of fair dale was either flattened or damaged. that same storm system now heading our way. >> one fire firefighter taken to the hospital earlier this morning after fire on the 1700 block of bridge street in frankford. five people inside the home did get out safely. >> and some dash cam video here released of events lead

compromising the shoulder, the good news is it is no longer compromising the right-hand lane as it was so that's an improvement. however, take a look at the eastbound traffic, you have on the opposite side of the road. i mean, both sides of the schuylkill right now are experiencing delays throughout your western suburbs but the eastbound lane continues to grow heavier and heavier. usually as we approach 6:00 that's when we start to see a rush, but here is the other vantage point of the schuylkill. seventy-six right around the area of montgomery drive. not awful. but watch out for an overturned vehicle on kelly drive. not too far a which from sedgley, and be careful because it is slick. >> in sports, phillies take on the nationals tonight in south philadelphia. weather permitting. last night, red sox breaking through against phils starter david buchanon. shane victorino remember him with the rbi and that was just the beginning. the socks scored six runs on seven hits off buchanon, phils offense came up short. phils lose this 16 to two. socks take two out of three. flyers wrap up their season tomorrow at the senators at
