>> twisters destroyed every single building in the town every fair dale. that's 80 mice 0 miles west of chicago. one couple says they made it to their shelter just in time. >> we pulled in here, ran inside, got couple of pictures of the tornado right across the street from us here, and the went in the bailsment, went down in the basement, 12 of us in the basement until finally got us opened to up come out. >> tornado destroyed rochelle restaurant. emergency work hers to pull survivors from the basement there. as you can see if you are looking at your screen, that storm powerful enough to lift a tractor-trailer on it side.
5:31 am
now, katie same system headed our way hopefully not nearly as severe for us? >> not nearly that severe. we could still see stronger locally thunderstorms but the southern tear of the area, does appear as though this will definitely have some gust owe with it as it rolls through our area. i don't think tornados are as much of a concern. thank goodness, that said, here is a lock at the system. on storm scan3 i mean, definitely got some serious organization to it. you can see sort of the classic comma shape taking form here with the storm center up across the great lakes. warmfront lifting through. yes, it is a warmfront even if it does have some snow with it across new england for us, strictly rain, even some thunderstorms, then, the trailing cold front. and so often the cold front in a sets up the clash. we warm up ahead of it, chill comes behind t so you get that just battle that goes on in the atmosphere, mother nature tries to balance herself out. just has such a hard time doing that, so that's where weather comes from really. that's the essence of it. meanwhile, already, had couple of thunderstorms, some pockets
5:32 am
of rain, you will find some areas of fog out there too and then, we get little midday sun, but we also have to deal with some late day thunderstorms, and it does appear as though the window would be afternoon and early evening, for any of tees storms to rumble through. downpours, gusty wind, frequent lightning i can't rule out small size hail specially through southern most new jersey and the state of delaware. that's where we sit in either marginal or slight risk zone for severe weather today. a look at the current wind. it is really light for one thing, and it is still generally easterly. so once this starts to shift more southwest that is when we start to see the thermometer spiking up here. so for now still off to cool start. i mean there is day has a lot going on with it. starting off cool, starting off dreary, much like the last few days have brought then we just surge. i mean, shooting for the 70s already. by 3:00 this afternoon and dow think we have the wherewithall to hit up 73 in philadelphia with just enough sunlight t also means if there are any storms that do get
5:33 am
triggered here, vittoria, could be that much stronger. so that we have to monitor for sure. >> definitely going to need to monitor the roadways, as well, in weather like this, because it is always accident prone. even if it is just a drizzle like it is right now but we get outside give you an idea what it does look like, what happened earlier rather. traveling on kelly drive kelly drive westbound we had overturned vehicle you're seeing that right there. not too far away from sedgley not too far away from boathouse row. soap because of weather like there is i always tell folks to avoid kelly drive because incidents like this do happen. and do cause situations, as you see here, to be extremely severe, and extremely dangerous. so, this is why we show this to caution you not only of what happened, but what could potentially happen if you don't take it easy. so again this was traveling on kelly drive westbound direction at sedgley. as we continue, we will take you now to the schuylkill expressway at gladwynn, if you are traveling at gladwynn, earlier accident has been cleared on the westbound side.

5:35 am
an hour. speeding as a plane was landing, and 75 more circled above. that breach and others led to changes. >> we did have extensive and expensive perimeter hardening that went into effect. >> nineteen breaches reportedly involve vehicles and perimeter fencing crashes. phl says if stepped up its perimeter safety, now using extra cable guardrails, and beams, with cameras and increased patrols keeping watch. the ap study spans back to 2004 and details the following. in 2014, a young driver struck a fence, after losing control of a car. one year before, a woman taking a turn too fast almost struck a parked plane. that same year, a drunk woman was arrested, after walking past the guard into a secured area. to aviation expert arthur wolk single security breach of any kind is too many. >> i don't think it matters whether it is intentional or not. the one intentional person could have been a terrorist that generate horrible
