. jim: let's go down to bill macatee. bill: with justin rose, 67 today, congratulations. talk about the putt at the 18th. just:: yeah, that was a quick putt. one i was taking the high line on and definitely not going to be racing that one. everything away from the clubhouse down to rae's creek is incredibly quick. that was a bonus putt. bill: you've done such a good job grinding back over the second nine the last two days. how important is it to be in the final pair something justin: i realized that was going to put me in the final pairing. that's going to be an experience tomorrow. it will be great to play with jordan and try and keep pace. bill: good luck tomorrow. back to 18. jim: his second side the last two days, 33 and then today 31. so he is still away, hoffman in closer for a birdie putt.
7:01 pm
this would be quite a par. nick: this could be incredibly significant in the whole picture of the whole week, the final result tomorrow evening. yeah suddenly bouncing and twitching a little more. jim: how about that? nick: unbelievable. jim: this kid's amazing! nick: unbelievable. jim: the consequences, what they could have been had he gone double bogey-bogey. just the mental part of it. he just escaped. cleared a big hurdle. nick: you're in a bowl here of emotion and intensity. this kid could get up and down
7:02 pm
from a goldfish bowl. that was something. even with a goldfish in there. jim: and he has now the 54-hole masters scoring record. nick: well, he deserves it after that. jim: one better than floyd and woods. and again the all-time tournament scoring record is 270. 18 under par. earlier, just a half-hour ago he became the second player in the history of the tournament to reach 18 under. nick: i said last night a pair of 70's and it's a lock. jim: he's got the first one. nick: where he is? well that's only four back. jim: now hoffman. this is for a round of 71. well done!
7:03 pm
charley hoffman. it's a new experience for him too, playing in the final pairing of the weekend of a major with his limited experiences. he'll be paired up with his fellow san diegoian, phil mickelson. going out just ahead of spieth and rose. nick: i just heard myself say to myself -- we've been talking about this insurmountable lead he had and then i suddenly said justin rose only only four back. phil only five. charley hoffman only six. we just don't know. but those guys, three guys genuinely have a chance to still take this, so it is not a foregone conclusion with a four-shot lead. it's still all to be played for tomorrow. jim: let's go back down to bill macatee. bill: jim thank you very much.
7:04 pm
with phil mickelson. 67 today. you know this course so well. what was your game plan coming out with jordan having such a big lead? phil: i was looking at the pin placements and they were much more accessible on the front nine so i felt i had to get off to a good start. i tried to get something going on the back. it was a much more difficult back nine, i thought so it was important to get off to a good start. i was lucky to do that and the back i made two bogeys. it stalled by round but it was a good round. bill: there was something about your expression throughout the day, it feels good to be back in the thick of things here at augusta national doesn't it? phil: it really is the best to play late on the weekend with the perfect weather. the golf course couldn't have been better. they got the -- got the greens just perfect so that a perfect shot was received and if it wasn't it went through. it was a penalizing course.
7:05 pm
a lot of birdies, a lot of bogeys. bill: i have to ask you about the shirt and the significance of it. phil: it's not more my color. it doesn't look good on me. i don't wear it well but i had a premonition after spending time with arnold palmer. he likes to wear this color. i had a feeling that i needed to make a move and i had it in the bag and pulled it out. bill: and what about tomorrow? your game plan on the course and also wardrobe? phil: well, i like to wear dark colors on sunday. i've won three times here wearing black shirts so i'll wear a black shirt tomorrow but it also helps me get more aggressive. studies have shown nfl teams, when they wear black, they have more penalties. it helps you play more aggressive and that's what i need to do tomorrow. bill: phil mickelson. back to jim nantz.
7:06 pm
nick: i'm going to wear my aggressive colors tomorrow too by the way. jim: i will too. i tell you if he wins it tomorrow, this is going to be programs the shot and the save that we're going to remember. a little mickelson-like there. got a lot of air under it. remember phil once on a saturday needing to have an up and down from that same side of the green up above the bunker and he made that exact putt to go into the night with the lead and he went on to win. just when you thought perhaps he was rattled nerves were jangling dead center. he'll add up the card, sign it and when we return we'll hear from him. jordan spieth, the sensation so far at augusta 2015.

days together at merion in the 2013 u.s. open and really neither one of them played well. hoffman, mickelson and rose along with spieth who has now taken hold of the 54-hole tournament scoring record after claiming the 36-hole record yesterday. jordan today was a much different look than the first couple of rounds because there were mistakes but plenty of birdies too. seven birdies three bogeys and a double. nick: this was on the seventh. another one of the blistering quick greens. jim: here he is at the ninth hole. i was in the company of lee trevino last year longtime dallas resident and i asked him who's going to be the next great star in the game? he said it was going to be jordan spieth. nick: whether he got fortuitous bounces, he knew it.

7:11 pm
shot and landed it just right. the putt to calm him down a little bit i'm sure, going into tonight. what a save. a round of 70. 64 in the opening round. only nick price and greg norman had ever gone lower in any round in the history of this tournament. then the 46-hole mark, sets it. he's got the record at 54 holes as well. and let's go now to bill macatee and hear from young jordan. bill: jim thank you very much. 70 today. how big was that putt at the 18th after the double at 17? jordan: it was huge, just to see one go after from after the disappointment there on 17 where i probably should have just hit 3-wood off the team. that up and down, i don't recommend ever hitting it there. that wasn't easy.
7:12 pm
it was probably 1-5 if you make a putt so very pleased with having that putt roll, in get some momentum. bill: you said here when we stood here a year ago that the runner-up finish just made you hungry to get back. how often have you throughout of this week up to this year? jordan: all the time. we always think of this week. this is the greatest week in our sport. last year definitely left a bad taste in my mouth and i've been looking to get back to try and get some revenge on the year and i've got a long way to go still. bill: did it feel different today than the first two days? jordan: i think so. felt a little different. i played in the morning yesterday so i had 24 hours from the time i finished to the time i teed off. that's a long time to sit on a lead like that. now we're finishing the evening and it may help just to get back get some rest and be ready for tomorrow. it felt out on the course a
7:13 pm
little bit different and maybe got a little anxious at times but all in all kept it together with the putter. bill: jordan, overnight leader good luck tomorrow. jim: bill, when he walked off last year coming in -- coming in second he said it stings. i had it in my hands and i could have gone guard with it. the only thing i'm thinking about right now is when do i get back next year. in his words a year ago sunday. he's back and he's been making history. what do you expect from him tomorrow nick? nick: he's controled his intensity, his emotion. apart from 245 tiny hiccup at 18. houston houston -- right now he's prussed the up and -- produced is up and down of the year to keep himself in the lead. we expect the same tomorrow. they have to get through some important moments tomorrow. that 12th hole could be difficult for them. jim: final-round coverage tomorrow at 2:00 eastern time.
7:14 pm
the day began with a five-shot lead and now it is four. some incredible shot making today. tiger early. he shoots 68. rory matched that score. they're playing together tomorrow. phil comes in one better at 67. what a putt that was at 16. rose with a late charge, 67 as well. he'll be riding alongside jordan tomorrow. there is the name. is that the next big name in this sport? tomorrow he has a chance to become only the second 21-year-old to ever wear a green jacket and become the next star in the game. jim nantz, nick faldo, good night from augusta.
