developing now at 11:00 o'clock a love triangle explodesexplodes in violence and leaves a neighborhood in chaos. tonight the crucial clue that could lead to the driver who police say seriously injured a romantic rival. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. police say the feud between two women began over a mutual love interest and today it took a violent turn in the city's logan neighborhood. "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan is live at einstein medical center tonight where the victim in this case is recovering from very serious injuries. cleve? >> reporter: jessica the victim here had to have her leg amputateed because she was mowed down in front of her house by an suv. to make mothers worse when she's able to go home there's not much left after the ambulance took her away, her house caught on fire. >> family and friends of 24-year-old beatrice spence are

beside themselves first came the hit-and-run then the fire. >> she ran her over. she ran her over. >> reporter: after 2:00 friday after spence was outside her home on north 17th street with cousin the white suv came speeding down the street right at her. >> one cousin describe what happened but didn't want to be identified. >> she came the street speeding up the block and she ran my cousin over and that's when she backed up. >> reporter: another look at the surveillance from the reyes grocery store shows the white suv with the front end damage as it leaves the scene. family said the driver is a woman whose been in bitter feud with spence over a man. they say when the medic arrived one of spence' legs was barely still attached around the knee. >> she was just out. she was out of it. fortunately her mom got her to come to and when she came to she was really in serious shock. >> reporter: as family went with spence to the hospital, thing kept getting worse. a pot left on the stove set their home on fire.

smoke and flames severely damaged the house and the one next door. all this family say because of bad blood between two women over a man. she could have had kids. this is horrible. i wouldn't wish this on nobody's worst enemy. >> reporter: we want to apologize somebody was yelling when you first came to meche i don't believe that they said anything obscenities. but as far as the suspect in this case, police do know who that person is. but so far they've not announced any arrests. we're live at the einstein medical center. cleve bryan cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> cleve all is well. thanks for that. new tonight at 11:00 o'clock remembering the young victim of a deadly hit-and-run in kensington. "eyewitness news" on mascher street where the community came together for two-year-old david. david was hit by a car while walking with his mother josephine rivera on monday night night. she did try to save her son but was injured in the process. she took part in tonight's vigil along with other family members

her scars from monday still quite visible. "eyewitness news" was the first to show you the car that police say was used in that hit-and-run. the car's owners turned it over to police this morning. police say the owners who are from williamsport had hoped their white infinity to 19-year-old who was suspected of being behind the wheel at the time of the crash. they did not notice the damage front end when he return it. so far there have been no charges filed in that case. tomorrow a memorial service is set to be held for four-year-old latif wilson he's the little boy who died following a hit-and-run that was caught on camera in southwest philadelphia on monday. we're still waiting for the arrest of the driver who allegedly hit wilson in that case but a lawyer claiming to represent her has reportedly been in contact with the authorities. well there's an increaseed fire risk thanks to the rising temperatures this weekend. meteorologist kathy orr is live outside right now on the cbs3 sky deck with details. kathy. right now we have a partly cloudy sky. but they will clear overnight

tonight and we will be seeing plenty of sunshine and yes jess dark this is the season we have very dry conditions and temperatures are going to be heating up creating some problems on storm scan3 you can see not many clouds around and it is going to be drying overnight tonight. and that will create an enhanced fire risk during the day tomorrow especially in the afternoon. to the north and west of philadelphia. this is called a fire weather watch and it will probably be upgradeed to a red flag warning come tomorrow morning. these are the risks. the factors. gusts will be as high as 25 miles an hour. the relative humidity low. 25 to 30%. any dry fuels like branches or brush could catch fire rather quickly so please be aware of that if you live in our more rural areas. first forecast for tomorrow, it shows temperatures soaring through the 60s by 11:00 o'clock we're talking about 69 degrees. now we are going to see a surge in temperature feeling like summer tomorrow. we quickly go from summer to a soaker in the forecast. more on that coming up when i join you inside.

>> all right kathy see in you bit anyone who has been to the doctor notice some of the first questions asked are about your family's medical history. do you have heart disease runs in your family what about cancer? one local woman has no idea and she says her adoption is the reason why. tonight we talk to her about her quest to solve the mystery of her personal history. >> 34-year-old err ron campbell lookinglooking for her birth parents for a very specific reason. >> i was at the dentist today for my daughter, and again filling out paper work and they asked for your medical history and i have none. i have none to give them. >> born and adopted in montgomery county campbell had a happy childhood in newtown square. it was when she became a mother herself she wanted access to her original birth certificate. hoping to use it to track down more information about her birth parents medical history. >> i need these records. i need them in case something happens to me. or in case something happens to one of my children. >> because of her adoption that information is sealed. >> you don't have access to your birth certificate. is that frustrating to you? >> it's absolutely frustrateing.

i just feel like you're being denied a basic human right that people who aren't adopted have. >> reporter: there's now renewed push to change that. house bill 162 would give adult do adoptees in pennsylvania access to their original birth certificates. if passed, this bill would follow the current trend of more information in adoptions. >> today it is open adoption. things have changed drastically. there's not the shame of it any more. in fact, women who place are really cite quite a bit thought of for makeing this sacrifice. >> for now erin campbell waits hoping she'll have the answers to the question she's asked currently in pennsylvania adult adoptees can only get access to their original birth certificate if's the birth parent signed a form releasing it. in delaware, it's the opposite. adoptees can get the information unless the birth parent signed a form declining the release n new jersey just last year that state pass add law that opens all adoption records moving forward.

the diver state by state. erin thinks she has a lead on a person who could be her mom. she's waiting to hear back from her. >> it's got to be so frustrating when it's your information you want. >> she's just trying to keep her family safe. >> the parents avenue little boy who was killed in the boston marathon bombing now say they don't want the man whose responsible to be put to death. dzhokar tsarnaev set off the bomb that took the life of eight-year-old martin richard during the 2013 race. but the little boy's parents have now written in the boston globe that pursuing the dental pep tee for tsarnaev would only lead to years of appeals and force them to relive that painful day. the justice depth says the family's opinion will be a factor in how it proceeds. now to a disturbing case of child abuse. a two-year-old is dead his mother and her boyfriend are facing charges. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco has details now from delaware county. >> broke my heart. really broke my heart.

real hard for me. >> reporter: little mason's sweet face what this next door neighbor sees as she recounts the abuse she heard. >> the walls are very thin and she threatened the baby constant constantly. he would let out bloodcurdling screams. report roar this woman lived next door to 30-year-old shannon matthews and her two kids six-year-old and two-year-old mason for several years. she didn't want to give us her name or show her face. but she says she heard screaming on a nightly basis and often call the police. the last time just days before mason's death after he was doused in seasoning salt. >> she calls him foul, filthy names and she would say i'm going to kill you. >> reporter: matthews and her boyfriend 31-year-old daniel graph ton are now charged with mason's murder. da says the result of brutal beating. >> this child died as a result of bleeding internally because of so many beatings so many

punches so many pinches. it was all over his body including his genital area. >> reporter: mason's mother works in the doctor's office below her norwood apartment. on february 3rd graft ton brought mason downstairs in a blanket and said he stopped breathing in the bathtub. when first responders arrived, his body was cold and his bruises were evident. >> i wished i had known because i see myself bending down and picking him up, you know. and grabbing the five-year-old and running here lock the door, call police. >> reporter: department of child and youth services are involved and they were checking in on the family from time to time. graft ton are matthews are facing third degree murder charges amongst many others. in media delaware county diana rocco cbs3 "eyewitness news". new at 11:00 temple university students are remember remembering slain philadelphia police officer robert wilson iii teams of police officers and students played in a basketball tournament honoring his memory. hall on campus tonight. all of the money raised will benefit officer wilson's children. wilson was shot and killed during an attempted a store robbery last month. the philadelphia sports world is talking tonight about the big shake up with the flyers. the head coach craig berube is out tonight. he was fired ending weeks of speculation about his future. he had been the head coach for parts of two seasons and had been with the flyers organization for 18 years as a player and coach. so what led general manager ron hextall to fire his former teammate? we'll get an explanation from hextall coming up in sports. meantime in the wake of that firing upper darby police took to sweater posting this. hey, craig berube we always have room for an old time enforcer. looks like the ex flyer has a sob job in law enforcement if he wants it. >> caught on video shopping turns ugly as a fight breaks out in a center city store tonight. we've got that story next. kathy? >> we are going to be seeing the

push is on tonight to strengthen security at the white house. steal spikes will soon be installed a top the white house fence in an effort to discourage any potential fence jumpers. those spikes will measure half an inch and be placed at a 5-degree angle. they're have been three white house security breaches just since september. former homeland security secretary and former pa governor tom ridge says they often lead to important lessons. >> we shall not have a failure of imagination. so there was a breach on the congressional lawn. there's a breach at the white house. don't think that our enemies may use these old proto kohl's, old approaches they may took a look at those lessons learned and apply them themselves. >> install laying of those spikes could come as soon as

the celebrity tv doctor from his faculty position. the group of doctors calling for his out of the call agregious lack of integrity and quack treatments. columbia issued a statement today saying that it is committed to academic freedom and the freedom of expression of its faculty members. the royal baby watch continues tonight and some brits are placing their bets. they are expecting their second child any day now. it's unknown if it's a boy or a girl but many are now placing bets on the baby's gender as well as possible names. regardless the baby will be a younger sibling to 20 month -- 21 month old prince george. it appears pope francis may expand the itinerary of his us trip in september. in addition to traveling to philadelphia, washington and new york, today the vatican reveal the holy father is considering adding a stop in cuba. back in december, it was revealed that the pope had helped iron out a deal for

perspective of how warm it's going to get tomorrow. 56 degrees in allentown. 50 in the poconos. 59 in millville and at atlantic city airport we're sitting at 63. little bit cooler down the shore. you have that ocean influence winds coming off the ocean from the south. 55 in ocean city. cape may 57. rehoboth beach 59. look at the ocean only 47 degrees. that is cold. down the shore it will be cooler cooler. we always see that transition this time of year with that ocean being so chilly. the temperatures reflect it. saturday 68 we have a northerly wind. sunday northeasterly wind only 59 degrees. but it will be beautiful and sunny. so if you're heading down enjoy it. for your saturday, little bit inland we're talking about temperatures well into the 70s. the warmest we have seen since last october. and it's going to get windy in the morning not much wind. it will be comfortable. but during the day to the north and west we see those winds pick up and by 6:00 p.m. gusting to 20 miles an hour in physical. the same in allentown gusting to 30 in the poconos. and we are going to be seeing that enhanced fire risk

especially north and west of the city during the afternoon. you can see in philadelphia gusting to 30 miles an hour if you're out saturday night. you'll be feeling the win but the good news is, it will be a bit of a warm wind. then we'll be seeing conditions get cooler for sunday. monday periods of rain. that is our soaker. about an inch to an inch and half of rain impacting both commutes. overnight, we see clearing skies. low temperature of 56. tomorrow 78 and some in spots making it to 80. we start off at 60. by noon it's 73. 75 by 2:00 p.m. if you're going out for the evening at 5:00 o'clock 77. and by 8:00 p.m. just beautiful 71 degrees. as we look ahead on the exclusive "eyewitness weather" forecast, you can see sunday 64. monday you see the rain. it's going to be heavy at time. ponding on area roadways. tuesday pleasant staying in the 60s. wednesday, thursday and friday it is going to be a nice seasonal stretch the only fly in the oint system monday and one rainy day out of seven not so bad.

road wins were the fewest since 1972. gm ron hextall thought accountability was the problem. >> in the end the decision was made because i didn't feel like, um craig got enough out of our group as a bunch of individuals. therefore, collectively and it took me until last night i made the decision spoke with craig this morning. report roar hextall didn't just fire his head coach. he fired a long-time friend and former teammate. >> it was hard. i mean my responsibility is to do what's right for the organization. i felt like this was right but you've obviously got the personal side. he's a good friend of mine and i got a lot of respect for craig and i admire him a lot. >> reporter: hextall wants a head coach that will be at same page as him about the future of the flyers. as for right now the search is wide open. >> there's no list. i haven't thought about it. i haven't -- i not there yet. my focus has been, you know, whether craig was the right guy or not when i determined he's
