region with the exception of the eastern part of the south jersey. as we zoom in you can see what we expect here. on storm scan three we will see showers and then are storms through central part of the pennsylvania another line forming through baltimore and washington but look at the length of real estate we are talking about with severe weather watches and warnings from atlanta through philadelphia over 700 miles. this is all moving toward east/north east. as cold front gets close their severe weather threat will continue to grow. you can see one fell over reading, berks county moving north. heavy downpour associatable with that. more along chesapeake. we have the few here, the warming water, moist air. i do anticipate more of these storms coming through chester county, northern new castle and into philadelphia as the evening wears on. once again that tornado watch in effect until 10:00 o'clock tonight. these are the threats. big threat of scattered down powers heavy rain inch an hour, large hail and possibility of severe storms. that would be an inch in diameter damaging wind in the

severe cell, 60-mile an hour gusts or greater and once again isolated tornado is possible in that watch area our team coverage continues right new with meteorologist kate bilo on the cbs-3 sky deck for more on this tornado watch and ingredients of why this is all happening good evening, kate. >> reporter: good evening, kathy. even though threat for tornadoes is isolated and localized across our area tonight as we kick off severe weather season this is a reminder you want a plan in place if a tornado warning is issued for your area do you know where you aring accounts basement interior room good exercise to prepare if the risk is generally low at least for tonight. still cannot rule that out across the area lets talk about why. as we know sun came out, it is warm and steamy outside. still 74 at the airport. 75 degrees in dover. further north allentown in the lower 60's and notice cool's long the coast as well. we have marine air mass keeping things cooler a and that is more stable along the

the shore points. that is why the shore is not included in the tornado watch. you can see how warm around d.c. slightly rain cooled now at 72 degrees. richmond up to 77 degrees. due points are high as well. to points tell us how much moisture is not at months fear. when we have to points in the 60's that is a a moist air mass. 61 degrees at the the airport and 64-degree dew point in dover. what you want to look for as far as areas in the risk zone for severe weather high dew points warmer temperatures and more during the the course of the day. we have heat, moisture especially west and southwest of philadelphia, with those warm temperatures and those high dew points. we have a lifting mechanism. warm front is still draped back across portions of central new jersey and northeastern pennsylvania. meanwhile cold front starts to move in. that will lift up that air. i talk about that back wind that is producing threat for low level wind sheer and we have a veering wind in the upper atmosphere. win direction changes from the the surface as you head

upward in the atmosphere and aloft and that creates rotation, wind series number one ingredient we will look for, we need speed sheer and directional sheer to get tornadoes to form and we have those ingredients tonight. while risk remains generally low we cannot rule it out greatest risk for us damaging straight line wind gusts in excess of 60 miles an hour and heavy rain that could create some quick ponding on the roadways. if you are out and about and see those dark cloud you want to take shelter immediately. we will keep you posted throughout the the night as threat for severe weather continues to move closer to our area reporting from the sky deck i'm meteorologist kate bilo now back inside to you. a daring water rescue from the roof of the submerged car in montgomery county month. man and her dogs were stranded in rising flood waters brought on by this morning's heavy rain. our walt hunter has exclusive new pictures and video from the dramatic rescue from lower moreland township. >> reporter: sophie and ivy probably wondered what all of the fuss was about, minutes

after eyewitness video shows them along with their owner being rescued from this karen gulf by rising what the's long philmont avenue at mid-morning. >> we saw her car getting in to the ditch and water was raising and she was really upset. >> reporter: as police, fire rescue units raced to the scene here eyewitnesses say they were more and more concerned as water surrounding the car continued to rise. >> she started out saying it is on the my knees, waist and chest. >> reporter: as the driver was pulled to safety unhurt christine margot who works at world of animals veterinary hospital nearby rushed to assist rescue workers carrying the wet, shaken, but otherwise, unhurt pets to safety. >> they were definitely shaking and scared and very wet but they are doing okay. i think they want to see their owner. >> reporter: police and eyewitnesses believe the vehicle wound up in the drainage ditch after the ditch was concealed by flood waters

and delaware, that watch is in effect right now and it runs until 10:00 o'clock tonight. meteorologist kathy orr is here and she will join news about one minute with an update. somber anniversary in haddon heights today that marks 20 years since a shooting that claimed lives of two law enforcement officers. >> ♪ on this date in 1995 john mclaughlin of the camden county prosecutor's office, and john norcross of the haddon heights police department were killed while serving a warrant. today the memorial clock which was recently, refurbish was dedicated in their honor. the brother, of office are norcross brother richard who was also shot back on that day in 1995, spoke at today's ceremony. >> today we remember the men whose names on this beautiful memorial clock, it is important to our society that we never forget peace, security safety in our homes and communities is obtained

and see where it is warm. temperatures in the 70's. bill is saying 76. relative humidity 62 percent, very high, cloud moving from the the west and that is the direction our cold front is moving in. that will create enough lift to set off storms tonight. allison reporting in a temperature of 76 in cherry hill. she said sunnies still out there. lets take a a look at pictures across the region because we have had a few. we had a beautiful picture of the cherry blossoms but, look at this morning, plenty of rain in yardley. you could in the see outside your windshield. the bad news is we could see more torrential downpours in these storms this evening. take a look, we are looking at conditions that are quiet but look at this numbers. rain in philadelphia set a record already, 1.8 inches of rain for the day previous record, one point 71, we have to go back to 1874, to be anywhere close to this record. storm scan three you can see storms firing up keeping an

eye on this batch right here moving right up the the chesapeake. we have warm moist air this is our moisture source and i do expect to it move right along new castle county i-95 and possibly into chester and delaware, philadelphia counties. right now this is not severe but heavy downpours associated with these storms. that is the big threat this evening and we could see other factors as well. this cell dumping an inch and a half of rain an hour with lightening associated with it. that moving north and east through reading berks county heading toward poconos and right now that is all we are seeing on storm scan three but more ahead as that front approaches from the west. warm humid philadelphia still seven 46789 rain cooled in allentown and reading in the 60's. millville 72 degrees is current temperature. dew point or moisture in the at months fear is highest specially through philadelphia area another threat damaging wind in excess of 65 miles an hour if the severe storm. the possibility of hail and of course isolated tornado in the delaware valley as far as risk
