gray suffered a fatal spinal cord injury while in police custody. hiss death sparked protests by demonstrators who see this as another case of mistreatment of blacks by police. more demonstrations are expected later this week. craig boswell has our report. >> reporter: freddie grey's family was joined by protesters. some overcome with emotion. they're looking into the questions of gray's death. he was arrested after he and another man ran from officers. gray was seen being carried into a van by a video. another video also obtained by wjz shows officers removing gray from the van to shackle his legs at a stop during the drive to the western district. at the end of the ride an ailing gray was rushed to the hospital where he died sunday. autopsy results say the cause of

death was a severe spine injury. police say they don't know what happened. demonstrators say they will take their case to baltimore's mayor on thursday with a rally at city hall. organizer jamaal bryant wants the six officers involved to face charges. >> i want murder charges for all of them because there was no history or record of him having a spinal injury. all police officers can't say what happened. the mayor has acknowledged in the press that he called for immediate medical attention and nobody gave it to him. >> reporter: the protesters say the demonstrations are only a beginning. this is not an event, they say. it's a movement. craig boswell, cbs news baltimore. the tult sa volunteer sheriff's deputy who fatally shot a suspect after he says he miss tangly mistook his hand gun for a taser is headed. the judge agreed to allow him to take the previously planned

i remember looking around and there were bodies everywhere blood, everywhere. the defense have decided to hold off until after the case. the jury will decide whether he receives a death penalty or life in prison. through tears, williams campbell the father of krystle says she was his princess. i miss her, i miss her a lot. the penalty phase is expected to last up to a month. kris van cleave, cbs news boston. oklahoma scientists say they've linked the state's recent string of quakes to wastewater in oil and gas drilling operations. the geologist says the state averages one quake a day. they say the likely source is the injection into the ground of wastewater from oil and gas production. some state lawmakers are calling

for a moratorium for 16 counties. president obama nominated lynch last fall to replace eric holder but senate majority leader mitch mcconnell held it up because of abortion language. that dispute has apparently been settled. a vote on the trafficking bill is expected today. the head of the drug enforcement administration is stepping down. michelle lenhardt. she'll leave the agency next month. the largest bird flu outbreak is affecting poultry. don champion has more on efforts to stop the spread. >> reporter: the federal government is now working on a possible vaccine to fight the largest outbreak of bird flu in the country in 30 years. this news comes as additional

cases of h 5 n 2 were confirmed at turkey farms in south dakota tuesday prompting poultry producers to test their flocks. >> they'll call on it in the morning, evening, and night. it's really important to figure out what is ooh going on with their farms before they move the animals. >> reporter: more than 200 turkeys in minnesota have been affected. lawmakers there approved $900,000 in emergency funding to contain the outbreak. so far the largest single outbreak of the flu has been in this farm in osceola county farm, iowa. farmers have started euthanizing them. the strain can kill a flock of birds in 48 hours but it has little effect on humans. >> that would not be a concern for someone eating an egg. >> others are more concerned about the economic impact. >> you're going to have a reduction in supply. if you have a reduction in supply you're going to have an

a powerful and deadly storm is battling australia for a third day. a massive 50-foot wave on the east coast set a new record. the storm has done more than a foot of rain in some areas triggering widespread flooding and damage. three people drowned in their homes north of sydney. emergency crews are making highwater rescues. the storm trapped more than 2,000 passengers on a cruise ship off of sydney. video recorded on board showed huge waves pounding the ship. the heavy surf had closed parts of sydney harbour. passengers described their fear and damage on the ship. >> upstairs on the main decca lot of glass had been pushed out. chairs turneds like lollipops. it was just crazy. >> they kept everyone calm. after a two-day wait the ship was finally guided into port
