move out the cold, will move back in. good afternoon i'm chris may. i'm jessica dean. lets get to meteorologist kathy orr with more on the storms and cold right behind them. >> thinks still a very active weather situation. this is the picture from 95 just past academy road in northeast philadelphia. look at the camera shaking. visibility is poor because rain is falling really heavily in this particular area and this rain is moving up that i-95 corridor toward trenton as we speak. i can't believe how hard this is shaking. i think we are gusting to 40 maybe 50 miles an hour with this cell. take it on storm scan three and you can see line moving north east, bright yellow and orange there it the is in northeast philadelphia, passing through city on its way to trenton in a line through chelten ham extending down through burlington county, new jersey and here is the the cell. we are talking about rain rates higher then half inch an hour abington to the north of cheltenham cinnaminson moving up i-95 corridor in bensalem and levittown and trenton along route one and

backyard, the the local officials decided wednesday they have to leave. >> i have the the potential when we walk away, we could be walking away for good and losing everything. >> reporter: florence township has several experts look at the erosion and determine both the odell's house and one next door could sink down advancing cliff. >> right now at this point in time the engineer is saying this is a imminent danger. i don't think he can say within hours but it could be days but when lives are in stake you don't take any chances. >> reporter: odell's say it started two years ago and with each storm it grew worse. they say florence township gave some indication they would try to help but burlington county says the the problem is the property owner a's responsibilities. then this monday more rain and erosion exposed a pipe gushing water. the county capped the pipe but there is no game plan for remedying the situation. odells are certain is there more than mother nature but feeling vindicated doesn't make possibly losing their home any easier. >> my grand kid love it here.

disturbing video authorities are investigating a beating on board a septa subway. police say students were involved in that attack. our matt rivers is at septa headquarters in center city with new details now matt. >> reporter: chris that security camera footage came from the spring garden subway stop and septa police officers described that footage as both horrifying and brutal and because of that we're going to warn our viewers that some video you are about to see could be taken as disturbing. this is video from a septa security camera, rolling around 3:15 p.m. yesterday at the spring garden subway stop along the broad street line. it start calmy enough and then chaos, one of the students, swings at another and full scale brawl erupts on the platform with multiple groups of students fighting all over the the area as other people waiting for train look on terrified. it goes on for some time, a fight that police suspect was planned in advance by the

teenagers involved. >> it is an outrageous event. this is a so dangerous it is not even funny. we have operating trains down there. there are passengers waiting for the train. >> reporter: you can see how close one student came to being hit by a train. here he is after falling on to the the track only to get backup and moment later that same student can be seen, stumping on another victim. teenager involve here are believed to be from nearby ben franklin high school. the philadelphia school district is helping with the investigation. >> what we have seen is a brutal violent attack that could have have ended up with the loss of life really. >> reporter: despite how bad this video looks no serious injuries were reported and no one filed any complaints with the police. you cane police arrive on the platform after the fight had wrapped up and suspect got on the train and got away. the septa police tell us they have identified at least two of the victims in this case and hope to interview those two interviews real soon and

lawsuits. the league has been troubled for years by complaints that it hid risk of repeated concussion toss players. as part of the deal the nfl may never to have reveal what it the new about the risk and treatment of concussions but here's what it could cover. it could cost $1 billion over 65 years. it will help estimate 6,000 of 20,000 retired players who are expected to suffer from dementia. the average pay out per retired player is $190,000, but at ward could reach between one and 5 million for players diagnosed in their 30's and 40's with early on set dementia or death. cbs-3's sports director beasley reese, a former nfl player is a plaintiff in the lawsuit and president of the philadelphia nfl alumni association and i spoke with my collogue moment ago. >> i'm happy with the settlement. i believe that it is fair. no player want this money. if you get this money, you

kathy just used the word shocking when it comes to this cold behind us. >> not what we wanted to hear, kathy. >> i mean tomorrow morning will be shocking. if you went into work this morning and had to come out this afternoon it was a bit of the shock because we started off quite warm. temperatures made it in the 70's today. look at observation at bottom of the screen courtesy of our eyewitness weather watchers. temperatures are some

20 degrees cooler then what they were earlier this afternoon. outside we just ended with showers in ocean city, still a few lingering sprinkles but heavy rain has moved north in atlantic county and also along, lbi. so it is raining heavily there. i see brightening skies in the background but the board quiet for now. storm scan three you can see rain lifting north and east and heavier band making their way in the line from trenton through toms river and that will continue on the northeast wardly track. lets zoom in. you can see right near trenton that heavier band of rain, north on 295 also extending eastward toward robbins villain toward ocean and monmouth counties we are seeing rain. still heavy rain in levittown to the north and west along route one and we will continue to see this lift north. our skies slowly clear before sunset. down the shore long beach island seeing on rain but look at barnegat light, very heavy rain along one some showers and further west, one more wave of consistent rain.

well penn relays roll around this weekend and is there one man no doubt defying the odds. >> no doubt, "eyewitness news" reporter, james palmer, found a man with record speed james. >> reporter: we know relays are oldest track and field meet in the country and feature fastest athletes around. this weekend a south philadelphia man will compete in the relays and is one of the fastest men in the world for his age. george scott was born in south philadelphia little under a century ago and now at 94 years old, he is training in warminster to run the 100-meter dash at penn relays. >> i never thought i would be doing something like this.

i remember jesse owens and different others that ran and became world famous. >> reporter: scott still plays basketball regularly and playness pick up games with men less than half his age. >> basketball is great. >> reporter: scott credits basketball and dancing as reasons he remain so youthful. he started running track a couple years ago at 88 when he met his friend and trainer dave, who convinced him to run his first race six years ago. >> he told me i should get involved with the track and field, and i said, i haven't done that since the tenth grade. >> scottie wasn't convinced he was a runner but i said you've got to run. he not only wins the the race but he beats 80, 89 guys by 25-yard. >> reporter: after one year of racing competitively scott's career took off, at the age of 89. >> 2010, we did both the senior games and the the keystone games and i wound up

has claim the life of the man after officials say he was trapped inside that home. authorities have identified the man as 58 year-old james earl friedman, it all happened in plumstead township in the 6,000 block of point pleasant pike. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao has the the story. >> reporter: white smoke poured from this plumstead home in bucks county overnight. chopper three over the scene as dozens of fire fighters rush to rescue a man who was trapped. >> the the 911 call came in and said there was at least one person inside. the the gentlemen's car was out front. they always said if his carries out there he was inside. >> reporter: but fire caught too fast and it was too late to save a 58 year-old man whom officials say lived here alone. when fire crew as arrived tuesday evening the home was already engulfed in flames, the back portion of the home eventually collapsed. >> the flames coming out of the roof caught my eye. i came running out here. at that time there were fire trucks coming from all directions. >> reporter: police fire chief says what was inside certainly

others, 34 years ago. now, he is fighting for more freedom. >> since a jury found him not guilty by reason of insanity, hinkley has lived in a mental hospital. for past year he has been allowed to spend 17 days a month in his mother's gated community in williamsberg. he has been following strict requirements including meeting with the psychiatrist, and therapist and getting a volunteer job. sandra worked with hinkley at a local hospital. >> i don't think they should fear him. i don't think that he is a danger to anyone. >> reporter: hinkley was 25 when he shot president reagan, now nearly 60, reagan's daughter patty davis wrote this week she believes hinkley is still a danger and others agree. >> anytime you know you have someone in your community that has committed the types of crimes mr. hinkley committed it is a concern. >> reporter: several doctors have testified in u.s. district court that hinkley in longer suffers from sigh keys is and major depression but he has a narcissist particular permit disorder. secret service says it will

continue to keep a close eye on hinkley. >> from the the now until the the the day john hinkley dies the secret service will be a part of his life. >> reporter: hearings are expect to go on for days. craig boswell for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". some break news right now a school bus has collided with a car and a medical transport van in hamilton township, mercer county. the this is video from the scene just into the "eyewitness news" room. the it fridays hamilton avenue and clockner road. two people did suffer minor injuries in that crash but it is unclear if any students may have been on board the bus or if there was a patient inside that medical van. the cause of the crash is under investigation tonight. philadelphia, and tinicum township have signed an agreement today allowing for the expansion of philadelphia international airport. officials say they plan to move forward without the need to acquire 72 township homes and relocate 300 residents. at agreement revolves lawsuits over that issue.
