that weapon so he pulled his own gun and fired eight times. that suspect took cover behind a car and ran away. the officer was not hurt and unclear if the suspect was hit. police notified hospitals and investigators have used k-9 unit and thermal image go to try to track the the the suspect down. >> we have an active search for the gun man at this time. we will continue to expand our search. we are looking for this male. we have a vague description of him. he had a hoodie pulled down over his face. >> now this off-duty philadelphia a police officer is a a five-year receipt ran in this tenth. spent two years in upper darby. this latest incident comes a little more than a month after that father in overbrook who was just out walking his dog was shot and killed during a botched a attempted robbery then. anyone with any information in this case should call police. we're reporting live, jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness

news". also, strong storms leave a path of damage throughout the region here. they have moved in fast up rooting trees causing branches to fall and downing power lines. on west olive treat in westville, new jersey that giant tree toppled on to a roof forcing a home owner to evacuate until that home is deemed safe. >> wind were picking up and i was on the porch. i have been worried for a while. it has a hole in the center of it. it was in bad shape. that is when the tree was just stopped. it was scary. >> tumbling trees were seen all around the garden state. glassboro, this tree toppled over on to power lines and that block the home owner in the drive way. in pennsauken another street closed due to a tree leaning on the power lines up rooted right from the ground. katie, we're hoping for milder conditions today what do you think. >> milder in terms of what we'll overhead but not milder when it comes to the thermometer readings.

if you are traveling in either direction would i say around girard avenue, cottman things will narrow as a result of construction but we're not dealing with any major delays. on the westbound side of the vine street expressway, they have been going back and forth with lane closures for the the bridge construction that they have planned to be working on for these next couple months. traveling on the westbound side right now, will notice lane blockages maneuvering from the schuylkill to broad street or reverse. foulke are still getting by but one lane and it is a bit of the squeeze. it will reopen up at 5:00. you still have sometime. best thing to do maneuver in and around center city maybe take callowhill and parkway as they work on this construction but no problems, beautiful ride out there erika. homeowners of two houses on the edge of the giant sink hole in florence, new jersey evacuated this morning. the lynn and chris odell says erosion started two years ago

we have breaking news right now, police are searching forearmed man who tried to rob an off-duty police officer around midnight near 60th and malvern in overbrook. up investigators say the the off-duty officer saw the man had a gun and pulled out his own gun firing eight times. it is in the clear if that would be robber was hit. homeowners evacuated their homes teetering on the edge of the huge sink hole. township ordered evacuations after reports from engineers. they say homes backyards eroded over recent years. authorities are investigating a brawl at the spring garden subway stop on
