>> yes, these temperatures have taken us a solid hit here. even though we do still have vale of cloud cover overhead, not really enough to keep us from dropping, you know, below average here, at least on the thermometer reading. so chilly start for us for sure. you still got the breeze out there a lot of spots actually feel more like the 20's, even at this hour, we start things offer by taking you out to the live network. yes, clouds out, there but not hanging low to the ground. you're at 39 degrees here at palmyra cove nature park the wind is pretty light all things considered, but that's not necessarily the story everywhere. storm scan3 remaining quiet yes, little thin vale of clouds for us, at this point. but we expect it to stay dry. now, there are still freeze and freeze watches as well as freeze warnings, in effect this morning. they do not include the poconos. and the reason for that is because the last freeze average, you know, talking about averages it, hasn't actually happened yet. that's why you don't have the coldest spot in the watch or warning zone. regardless, you know, starting

to round out the point here where we would see a freeze develop, or frost develop. so, at this point it is colder than average for sure. mid 50's at best for daytime highs. breeze still with us, as well, in philadelphia, nothing better than about 56 degrees. that's about ten or 11 below the average vittoria. >> you know i'm not happy about that. >> i know. >> okay, fine, just as long as you know that. good morning everyone, right now, you will be happy to know that the roads are still sleeping. we're not dealing with too many delays at all. take a look at the vine street expressway. you will notice toward the right side of your screen there, that only one lane of traffic is getting by on the eastbound side between 76 and the parkway than is as a result of the con vukovich thon that they've been doing. usually wrap around 5:00 or so. we will wait until the cones get pick up. meantime you can still access the vine, still looks pretty nice out there. this is the schuylkill, free and clear we do have the onramp to the vine street expressway, from the eastbound side of the schuylkill left lane being compromised, again no delays, erika? >> let's get back it the breaking news right now.

philadelphia police officer is on the mend after he is shot in the arm. this happened near the corner of north 52nd and master street, after police responded to a narcotics violation. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us now at police headquarters with the latest information on this, jan good morning. >> reporter: erika, good morning, philadelphia police say we are really fortunate not talking about more serious injuries for this officer, as you mentioned he was shot in the arm taken to the hospital. we are told he will recover as far as the suspect goes, we are told, he was taken to hahnemann university hospital. no update on his condition this morning. now, take a look at the video, this is where the shooting all unfolded last night around 10:00 in west philadelphia, near 52nd and master streets police say officer daniel kostick assigned to bike patrol. he and his partners first in the area of wilton street, girard avenue, checking on man inside after van for possible narcotics violations. police say when they approached the suspect back up made u-turn police

officers followed, but eventually lost him. then officer kostick found the man near 52nd and master, police say having discussion, when the suspect says, quote, i don't want to have to do this, and then opens fire. officer shot in the arm returned fire, the suspect eventually found injured, in the 5,000 block of master street. now, there were chaotic moments that followed we captured those on police audio, radio cost i can called for help and his fellow officers responded. take a listen. >> in my back, my arm. >> i'm headed over there. i have the officer's bike on thompson street right now warren and master, i have the officer's bike here. >> now, police are not releasing too much information about this suspect, at this point, only saying that a weapon was recovered on the

scene, and again, he was taken to hahnemann university hospital. we are awaiting a update on that person's condition this morning. in the meantime, we are told officer kostick is in good condition, necessary good spirits, he will recover once again, he is a eight year veteran of this police force. much more on this story later on in our show. but for now, reporting live outside of philadelphia police headquarters, jan carabeo cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> thank you also following developing story, a delivery man shot and killed, he also crashed his car trying to make a get away. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us now from the scene in crescent ville with the latest on that story, justin, good morning. >> reporter: ukee, good morning, that's right, two on this case, first police believe this all began just short distance from where we are right now believe the driver may have been trying to escape but ambushed, got in his car, sped away up adams came to crash. north of bingham, up the hill here crashing into a pole.

the driver discovered dead inside. about 10:30, thursday night single car wreck off adams avenue, the scene violent one, mangled toyota up a hill shall crashed into a fence light polled down. driver still inside. and gravely injured. >> police arrival medics arrival, they found 49 year old male victim, inside of a 2013 toyota corolla. he was in the driver seat, unconscious. >> it is now believed the crash was the drivers attempt at get away from gunfire. medics also noticed he was shot in his left shoulder. police believe the driver, whom they are not naming, was working as chinese take out delivery man may have been on duty and shot either before getting inside his car or as he was at the wheel. >> we believe he was making a delivery to one of the properties in this hill creek homes. because we found 12 spent shell casings, in the 500

block of hill creek park. we also found some broken window which we believe was the glass from the driver door window that the victim was in. >> broken glass was found at the hill creek park scene, and inside the vehicle. the driver was taken to einstein and was pronounced dead short time later. >> and looking live at the police presence still on the scene, this investigation still ongoing here, at this lot off bingham and adams also at the hill creek houses, police at this time not giving the name of the driver. we are told his family has not yet been notified. live in crescent ville justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> justin, thank you for. that will also, new this morning, septa bus catches fire. happened around 1:30 this morning on south broad street and paterson avenue right in front of an at&t station. driver and passenger on the owl service bus got off safely. no word yet what may have caused that fire. >> a beloved south philadelphia resident dice in a house fire. "eyewitness news" on the scene on federal street. that fire started in the

second floor bedroom, of 69 year old joseph derosa. he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. choking back tears here, long time friend says derosa was the casino of guy who would give you the shirt off his back. >> it wasn't a person, he didn't say hello to, because he would always be sitting outside on the bench outside the club, or on his step, and the people right now know me, see me, ask me, and when i tell them they're kind of like sad to see because just the hello that he gave them made them happy. >> neighbors say derosa was a heavy smoker, but it is unclear right now how that fire started. frightening scene, at indianna high school, as stage filled with students collapses, during a performance, injuring dozens every students? our nicole brewer joins us now with more on the channels and how the student ren doing this morning. >> just terrifying night for student and their supporters, as the stage they're performing on collapses during the finale. take a look. >> ♪ ♪

>> very disturbing to watch. about two dozen student heard at high school in indianna late thursday night while performing the play american pie. authorities confirm at least one person was initially listed in critical condition but is now said to be fine. this all happened before a packed house in their auditorium. the an ers if audience members thought it was part of the show. then they heard the screams. >> and you just see this 12-foot drop. and just student being covered in huge pieces of wood, and debris and, you know, people just screaming for help, and everybody's just panicking. >> now parent rush to the stage to help. thankfully, most of the student were able to walk away on their own. now, still not clear what caused that collapse. but authorities are now investigating, the high school is open to students today. but, just a terrifying, terrifying end to the high school musical. >> and parents in the audience, thank you. >> well it, looks like comcast is about to pull the plug on a

>> agree died from spinal injury he suffered in police custody, reportedly injured as he was handcuffed and put in the back of a police van on april 12th. and now we know gray did not have a seatbelt on, during his ride to the police station and unbelted detainees we're told have, been paralyzed and even killed by rough rides to the police station. bill cosby is facing more accusations of sexual assault. three more women say the comedian assaulted them in separate incident between 1970 and 1982. one of them said cosby offered her a pill. after shing it it she says, her vision became blurry and then she passed out. >> i remember him then helping me up the stairs to a bedroom. i was in no condition to leave, to drive to say anything. >> the woman's attorney, gloria all red says more accuser will be coming forward. cosby has not been charged with any crime. >> 5:13 right now i want to get over to katie with the latest on the forecast.

temperatures do not feel like spring. >> very chilly beginning to the morning, yes, we've got freeze watches as well as few freeze warnings to tell b we do at least want to at least start off with maybe little bit of good news for you here. as we take a look in our extended trends, in terms of temperatures, yes, it is chilly today. but notice how the average starts to go up with time here. now, we are likely not going to actually achieve a typical temperature until the tail end of next week. slowly but surely will get there. matter of time. this is where we bottom out. today is the cold else. but, it is still in the mid 50's. remember when we were itching for days to even hit 50 degrees? put it in perspective right? still, yep little lake enhanced snow falling not here but certainly just off to the north and west by handful of counties away, and that has prompts freeze warnings, free warnings, but they extends with frost advisory too, all the way back down, spine of the appalachians, through the mid wells. you can almost draw the curve of where the core of the cold
