let's sends it over to carol for the forecast. little chim year than i would like carol my only complaint. >> last week it was 81 degrees. >> what happened? >> i know, we will be cutting about 20 degrees off that far high temperature for our high temperature this afternoon. it is cold out there first thing this morning, in a number every locations let's take a look, see how bright and beautiful it looks though 39 degrees, as we take a look at philadelphia from the palmyra cove nature park in new jersey, looks just beautiful out there. storm scan3 no problems at all, in fact, we really aren't dealing much even with in the way of any clouds. so expect to find nice looking day today and it won't be as windy that is has been over the last couple of days. our temperatures right now some below freezing, 29 in the poconos, 34 allentown and reading, 32 lancaster millville is just 31 degrees, this morning wilmington, 33, philadelphia, out at the airport, 41 degrees. so, it is a little bit milder there. our temperatures this afternoon, will be getting around that 60 degrees mark.

we will be finding sun and clouds, but nice looking day but just not as warm as we might want. remember, we still have that freeze warning in effect until 8:00 this morning areas that you see shaded in the purple, in the lighter blue, frost advisory that does include philadelphia, and that's until 8:00. again, these temperatures just we can watch them continue to drop. that's for the sensitive plants and the vegetation, and that sort of thing, for the growing season, also remember your pets. and make sure everybody's nice and comfortable this morning. so we will check out forecast, you may like, i'll show that you coming up. nicole? >> carol thank you. new this morning police in camden county are investigating an early morning homicide. it happened just before 1:00 on 12900 block of mechanic street in camden, the victim was rushed to cooper university hospital where he was pronounced dead. so far police have not made any arrests the victim's identity has not been released >> eighty-six year old korean watt veteran and his wife are

abducted and terrorized. now investigators believe they may have made a big break in the case. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandra huff with southwest detectives with the latest, alexandria? >> reporter: police are now questioning total of five people, two women and three men, found in two separate rental cars, both taken out in the victim's name. that was the goal according to police who say 86 year old george saunders and his wife press all were pushed into a car thursday, while they were walking in their west philadelphia neighborhood. from there police say that three females forced saint tears open his debit cards at td bank. card later used at a hertz rental where a car had been taken out in his name, second one added on. for a man who fought for a country in the koran war he said he felt disgraced. >> i was back and forth on market street, and so it was at 17th and the parkway i'm thinking i must have been a

fool. i said well if something happens to these cars, they are going to blame me because it is all in my name. >> so these two cars were found one of them in philadelphia, the other in cranberry, new jersey, again police now currently questioning five people. >> starbucks plans to open their stores this morning, one day after computer glitch forced them to hand out free drinks. not a bad deal, right? payment systems went down leaving stores unable to process credit cards or mobile payments. so starbucks started giving out beverages for free. but, many stores had to close for the night after getting mobbed, because as you can imagine, word got out on social media. hashtag free starbucks trended within minute, just take a look at these pictures here, lot of folks getting in on the fun. still not clear what exactly caused the glitch, but starbucks spokesperson says the company was not hacked.

olympic gold medalist bruce jenner said he is trans gender, he made that announce nam prime time television interview after month of speculation and rumors. cbs news correspondent chris van cleve has the details. >> yes, for awe intents and purposes i am a woman. >> there it is bruce jenner comes out as transgender near interview with abc news diane soar. >> i would say i've always been very confused about my gender identities since i was this big. >> jenner talked about secretly wearing his sister's dresses as boy but said he shared that side of himself with only a handful of people. jenner shocked international fame in 1976 when he won olympic gold for the us in the de cat long, after that, he was a market err's dream. decades later he married chris kardashian and became known to the today's generation as the stepfather of the kardashian kids. jenner said he started transitioning 30 years ago taking female hormones for five years but stopped however, he would put on dresses and walk anonymously in public, and at 65, he says,

he didn't want to die without having lived as a woman. bruce lives a lie. she is not a lie. i can't do it any more. >> jenner says the interview his last, as the bruce jenner the world knows and that he's going to use his fame to help others on similar journeys. >> what i'm doing is going to do some good and we're going to change the world. >> jen here also came out as a republican, said he would lobby for transgender causes. in new york, chris van cleve cbs 3, "eyewitness news". it is 5:06 right nowment philadelphia police officer is home after he was shot in the line of duty. "eyewitness news" was there as officer daniel cost nick was wheeled out of pen presbyterian. nineteenth district officer on routine patrol thursday night he approached a man at 52nd and mass their he suspected was using drug. well police say that man shot the officer in the shoulder.

then he returned fire. that suspect william knob lynn, remains in the hospital this morning. >> in baltimore, protesters angry over the death after man who died in police custody say they will try to shut down the city today. protesters continued to demand answers, following the unexplained death of freddie gray. there have been several days of demonstrations after gray died from a spinal injury, that he suffered in police custody. on friday, police officials admitted mistakes were made. >> we know he was not buckled in the transportation wagon as he should have been. no excuses for that, period. we know our police employees failed to give him medical attention in a timely manner, multiple times. >> the commissioner says if any officers harmed gray, they will be prosecuted. >> well, it is the video that's landed two south jersey police officers in trouble with their own department.

and now, we have it. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt shows us the tape and tells us why police officials in cumberland county say it is important that everyone sees it. >> two separate videos showing two millville police lieutenants before their arrests. lieutenant carl hager now on paid administrative leave after his colleagues say he assault add customer inside a liquor store. his colleague lieutenant edward, was pick up for dwi in a separate incident outside a popular sport bar over the weekend. >> we did everything that we could possibly do. >> lieutenant has been on the force almost 20 years and knows both officers personally. recently running the department as an interim chief. told "eyewitness news" the department took quick action, not only to arrest the duo but to make these videos available to the public. >> as long as we get it out to the community exactly what happened and as fast as we can i think it is good forker. >> with the population just

under 30,000 police force of around 70 officers on the streets, millville is a small community, we spoke to residents who have strong opinions on the police department's decision. >> people have to be held accountable for what they do, their actions. >> supposed to enforce the law, not break t if i got caught breaking the law i end up in jail. they should be the same. >> lieutenant is back to work but no longer running the department. the cumberland county prosecutor's offers is leading the investigation. >> we have a service to the citizens here in millville. we will make sure we're doing a great job with that. >> reporting from millville, new jersey, david spunt cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> well, atlantic city ushering in a new era of policing. from now on, all uniformed officers are required to wear body cameras. officials say, it is part of ongoing effort to bring transparency to that department reduce incidents that lead to complaints against officers. the 130 body cameras are constantly recording video on 30 seconds loop. audio start recording from the

buildings and centuries old temples. more video on the scene and more video throughout the rest of the morning. to chile now authorities are warning residents to evacuate once again fall-out from this week's two erruptions. mud flows from the volcano detect in the nearby river experts say that could level anything in its path. cbs news correspondent michelle miller has more. >> the back-to-back erruptions every chile's less than 24 hours of each other came with little warning. forcing the evacuations of nearly 4500 resident. a state of emergency was declared. hiker waldo flores was trapped on the mountain. >> i tried to stay above ground, he said, the explosions were frequent and very strong. dramatic video shows clouds of gas billowing 9 miles into the atmosphere creating amazing display of lightning. that ash came back to earth

covering homes and vehicles. but scientists are watching closely for different reason. volcanic gases have been shown to have cooling effect. the massive erruption every punt in 1991 lowered global temperatures by as much as 1 degrees. but they say even smaller erruptions like this one in chile can also make a difference. >> it is like a mirror. >> al helga, climate expert, with nasa. >> once these gases make it to the stratosphere, convert nod particles that literally reflect the sunlight, prevent the sunlight from coming into the earth surface and warming it up. this is a small component why we're not as warm today as climate models predicted would be woe seven years ago. >> there are now concerns about third erruption as residents in a capitol city of santiago some 600 miles away, expect shower of volcanic ash to arrive by night fall. michelle miller, cbs news, new york.

severe weather is expected to continue today in kansas, where several tornados touched down yesterday. eyewitnesses report baseball size hail near the town every lucas. now, as you can imagine, there are reports of damage there. the storms brought 60-mile per hour winds as well. >> all right, it is 5:16. let's check on things at home, carol, much chillier than we would like the last couple of days. >> i know. we even had windchill yesterday. it was very windy yesterday bright, but still cold. we've got cold morning this morning, as well. >> i opportunity show this picture, beautiful view of the city of philadelphia, we can see all of it, we do have the clear skies over us, as we start this morning's hours. so, expect to find really mostly clear skies most of the day today. few clouds, may come and go, but that should be the extent of it. forty-one out at the airport in philadelphia, in the 30's, every place else, and we even have 29 degrees temperature

that is in the poconos. but below freezing down in millville, right at the freezing mark in lancaster this morning. again, these temperatures might still drop just a little bit. storm scan3 nothing going on in our area, but if you have got hd tv, and you can see couple of snow showers as you head out toward south-central pennsylvania so, just kind of an amazing time, as we head into the last week of, what, of april and here we are looking at freeze warnings, and frost advisories, we have this freeze warning all around the philadelphia area with the frost advisory through philadelphia, and these temperatures that will be getting around that 32 degrees mark, at least in some locations and even lower than that in some of the others, and it is the growing season, and that's when those frost and freeze warnings and advisories go out. the average last frost is generally mid april. so we're going to be even later than that, through the philadelphia area. and then early may you keep going right through early may,

chances of frost up in the poconos. so this is the timetable i think, we are still looking at some pretty chilly weather out there. now, we have got temperatures today that will be just about 60 degrees. we could stop in the upper 50's but let's just say 06 degrees, makes it easy for the week, that way every day this next week will be somewhere around 60 degrees. tomorrow, will be several degrees higher in the 60s there could be a rain shower to the south. it doesn't look like it will be a big deal, if one occurs, then on monday, chance of picking up some breast i weather, also another chance of a shower. so we time this out. computer model says by 1:00 this afternoon just some clouds around here, no big deal at all. by the time we hit 8:00 it only wants to brush maryland, and may be southern delaware, with at least chance of a shower, the way things are looking right now. by the time we get to tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 we've got some sun some clouds, and then notice, couple of light rain showers might be streaking on down, and that's a look around 8:00 tomorrow

night the way the computer models are pegging it at the present time we know how they like to change their minds how much. but that's the way it looks. likes like fairly quiet weekends coming up. zero six in philadelphia for our high today shore 52, poconos, 52 degrees, as well, lots of sunshine going on, not as windy fortunately winds out of the west today about five to 10 miles an hour. and then tonight looking at well not to the four should be there. that would be a shock wouldn't it? mostly cloudy skies, it will be milder overnight. and then, as we go through the next couple every days, 65 tomorrow monday, 06 degrees, with that chance of a shower. tuesday, 65, and almost at 70 degrees on wednesday. that might be the better temperature day of the entire week, in the middle 60s thursday, and friday, nicole? >> not bad. thanks carol. hey, as the food trucks craze continues, to gain momentum all over the country really, rolling retail is growing in popularity, as well. everything from fashion designers to flores cents look to go sell their wears.

forecast, and i am hoping for a warm up. i don't know about the rest of everyone out there but few more degrees would help. >> really, come on the end of april. we need to see these temperatures justin to do something besides stay downed in the 50's, with winds at 30 miles an hour. today we are bitter in the winds department. temperatures still on the chilly side. better than they've been. they'll feel better, too. it is 39 degrees out at the airport, and we've got 39 through center city. it is a cold morning out there. but it is a very bright and beautiful one. if that's any consolation to anybody. let me show you couple of other temperatures right now. you can see we are looking at 34 degrees out in chester springs, kutztown, right at the freezing mark, 32 degrees, wayne, 35, oxford, 34 degrees. cold morning in all locations, storm scan3 showing, clear skies, one of the reasons that these temperatures overnight with the lighter winds were also allowed to bottom out as well as they're getting. so with the temperatures in the 30's, some cases at or

just below the freezing mark, obviously, we have freeze warning in effect for the areas that you see shaded in purple. that is everybody outside of philadelphia. in philadelphia, it is to self wilmington, all every delaware, cape may county, looking at frost advisory, that runs until 8:00 this morning. penn relays today boy i tell you what, it was cold thereon thursday. they were running so everybody in blankets, 60 degrees the temperature this afternoon. now, we will be finding our day shaping up like this. by noon at 52 degrees, by 3:00 p.m. that 60 degrees temperature will be reached t looks like nice bright day starting out. so we will continue to monitor this weather and try get few more degrees in here. we'll see if we can do that on the eyewitness weather seven day forecast coming up. nicole? >> more on top story this morning, korean war vet is kidnapped and robbed. now he's speaking with "eyewitness news" about the whole ordeal. >> nicole, police found two cars that they say were involved. they were both rental cars, one of them was found here in philadelphia the other in cranberry, new jersey, both of which were taken out in the victim's name. and that was the point of all of this, according to police. who say that 86 year old george saunders and priscilla jones pushed into a car thursday, while they were walking in west philadelphia. in their neighborhood. from there police say three females forced saint tears open a debit card at td bank. that was later used at hertz rental. the airport location where a car had been taken out in saunders' name and another one added on. this is a man who fought for our country in the korean war. he says this has left him feeling disgraced. >> they brought us back here, and they opened the door. she got out the side, i got out the other side, car shot off just like that.

>> again, police have found both of those rental cars, they're now questioning five people that were in the two of them. three men and two women that couple was shaken, but unharmed. reporting live from southwest detectives alexandria huff. cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> scary night, thank you. >> meanwhile philadelphia police are asking for the public's helped identifying two suspect who robbed a man inside chinese restaurant in hunting park thursday. surveillance video captured the crime on the 4400 block. north fifth street. investigators say one man pointed a gun at the victim, while another man watched the door. they took the victims' jacket, wallet, cash and cell phones. the suspect got away in a pontiac aztek the victim was not seriously hurt. >> the family of two year old david alleysaya searched the streets for justice, mascher and lehigh in kensington near where the little boy was hit and killed. they're hoping it will lead to arrest. >> we're determined to find

just fist. we are hoping someone out there has some information. by spreading the word, informing people of the situation, we're hoping someone will come forward. >> last week police recovered the white infinity that they say was involved in the hit-and-run, no arrest had been made. $20,000 reward is being offered in the in this case. well nia parlor formally arraigned on attempted murder charges. investigators say she abandoned her quadriplegic son in the woods near her could be creek home so she could visit her boyfriends in maryland. a passerby found the 21 year old, four days later on the grounds with only a blanket and a bible. he remains in the hospital. happening today, state of new jersey honors moment in history that saved the lives of thousands of children. operation baby list delivered helpless children out of the terror of the viet nam war and brought them to the united state. a local woman was one of those children, and she shared had he emotional story with our todd quinones.

county. >> it is 5:36 right now. service to the statue of liberty expected to resume this morning after a bomb scare forced the monument to be evacuated on friday. authority say someone called 911, threatening to blow up this statue. the bomb squad inspected the package found near the lockers. it was seen safe more than 2700 visitors were forced to leave liberty island. >> a terror plot to attack the vatican foiled. more than dozen suspected islamic extremists are arrested on the island of sardineia. susan macinnis with the latest from london. >> reporter: police hauled away members of a suspected islamic terrorist ring after series of raids on the italian island of sardinea. they say they tapped the phones of terror suspect who talked about caring out a big jihad, possibly against the vatican. the chief prosecutor says a would-be suicide bomber from pakistan arrived in rome in

2010 to target vatican city but did not go through with the attack. officials believe the terror suspect wanted to strike a crowded area not then pope benedict. authorities say the same group of extremists launched one of pakistan's deadliest bomb as year before, killing more than 100 people at a busy market. the vatican is downplaying the significance of the alleged plot with officials saying there is no cause for concern. police say two of the suspect arrested friday were former bodyguards for osama bin laden. susan macinnis, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the wife of new jersey governor chris christie resigned from a lucrative job on wall street. the governor's offers confirmed to "eyewitness news" that marry pat christie stepped down from her pokes at angelo gordon and company. she says it is to spend more time with her family, but political observers believe it is an anticipation of possible presidential run by her husband. it is 5:38 right now.
