they've was climbing mt. everest everest. magnitude 7.8 quake is the worse to the hit napal in more than 80 years. the destruction spread to neighboring countries with casualties reporting in india tibet and bangladesh. local hospitals are overwhelmed with injured people. united states has pledged aid to napal. search and rescue team from the los angeles area is now awaiting orders to go to that region. the team responded to new zealand and when we went to haiti with buildings that collapsed, there were people found in void spaces. >> as the rescue effort continues family from our area is praying that their relatives will be found safe. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers spoke with the family today who says the home they once shared it is now gone. >> reporter: most of us they are images of destruction in a far away place. heartbreaking, gut wrenching

scenes from a distant country. but for this man it's different for him napal is home. and this is so painful. >> devastating. i mean it's so -- how can i express? >> reporter: he's a small business owner in the united states for about five years now. he grew up in napal in this house most of it now reduced to rubble. after the powerful earthquake that brought down dozens of buildings, tore up roads and killed hundreds and hundreds of people. he's hoping his row tiffs aren't among them. he can't get in contact with most of his family still there. >> do you know if they're okay at this point or you just don't know? >> i don't know. >> reporter: he shows us facebook feed just a litany of destruction as napal lease share umps mav of horror with the rest of the world. their images that hit home with this northeast philadelphia family. political refugees from napal

who could only watch the news and pray. he spoke to us as his daughter translated. >> it's hard for him to watch and like he talk to everybody what happened here and then when we watch the videos it was really bad. >> reporter: back with the family they say there's little they can do but wait and hope there are no more after shocks that could make the recovery that much harder. >> they are first generation immigrants here to the united states. they've owned this restaurant here in lafayette hill for just over a decade and they say for the foreseeable future they'll be donateing a substantial portion of their profits to relief efforts for napal. matt rivers cbs3 "eyewitness news". well turning now to unrest in baltimore. as protesters continue to demand answers in the case of freddie gray. after hours of peaceful protests demonstrators in some areas clashed with police. you can see here officers formingforming a human wall trying to stop protesters from getting out

of hand. in the end at least a dozen people were arrested. cbs news correspondent craig boswell has more. >> reporter: vandals bashed in windows as protests over the death of freddie gray turned ugly demonstrates also clashed with police outside the entrance of camden jar. the tense moments followed a peaceful rally at city hall where demonstrators demanded justice for gray who died in police custody last week. >> i think most of the city is in solidarity. >> reporter: thousand marched the 2 miles from the spot where gray was arrested to city hall. >> we are tired of being pushed around. tired of police brutality and it needs to stop. >> reporter: gray died on sunday of a severe spinal injury a week after his arrest. cell phone video shows gray dragging his legs. police have not specifically said why he was stopped or how he was injured but they admit officers made mistakes. >> our police employees failed to get him medical attention in

a timely manner multiple time. >> reporter: despite isolated pockets of violence the overwhelming majority of protesters have been peaceful. the organizers of the massive rally to city hall the goal was should shut down the city. butch johnson had no intention of closing his doors. >> this is our community. we're not afraid. >> reporter: protesters plan another rally after the police investigation is completed next week. craig boswell for cbs3 "eyewitness news". well back now in our area, talking about our weather that it weekend got off to chilly start. we struggle to get to 58 for the high. we shall be in the upper 60s this time of year. so not even close to average numbers. here we are right now. we have clouds over us currently. so that's acting as a blanket holding in the warmth we had today. still at 50 at philadelphia international airport. 46 in allentown. 49 in trenton. suburbs cooling down a little bit 45 in quakertown and in pottstown this hour upper 40s in mt. holly new jersey. eventually temperatures do drop to our north. frost advisory will go in effect at 3am for lehigh and north ham couldn't county northern buck. temperatures down into the mid 30s. it will take its time to get that cold because still you can see the cloud cover over us. stop passes passes by our south. south of dover delaware seeing light rain that could clip extreme southern cape may county overnight. elsewhere skies just generally partly cloudy for most of the delaware valley. by the time you wake up tomorrow morning generally 30s to the north to low 40s from the city on south. not a bad rebound looking good for sunday afternoon start you

off with some clouds. temperature in the upper 40s by 8:00 o'clock. by noontime we're approaching 60 afternoon high on sunday should break into the mid 60s. so getting close to average and then by 8:00 o'clock still somewhat on the mild side partly cloudy skies. around the region we go. mid 60s for philadelphia. upper 50s at the shore. mid 50s in the poconos even warmer neck week. i'll show that you in the seven day forecast in few minutes. natasha. >> thank you justin. see you soon. new tonight septa police arrest 18-year-old in connection with a brawl at a subway station. tuesday' as tack at the spring garden station was captured on camera. authorities say andre boss knee yack was taken into custody in the keep hundred block of fillmore treatment he famous numerous charges. threes are looking for three more suspects in this case. and philadelphia police meantime have identified two people suspected of terrorizeing a local couple. 25-year-old dame men cornish and 23-year-old williams are facing a host of charges. pair were involved with three others who allegedly cared

kidnapped and rob 86-year-old george saunders and his wife priscilla. saunders is a korean war veteran veteran. suspects forced the terrified couple into a car in west philadelphia and dover them around for hours forcing them to open a debit card and rent two vehicles in saunders name. they were eventually dropped off back in their neighborhood unharmed. now grief in camden tonight after a teenager was killed in an early morning shooting. police found i wasn't witness-year-old jameer bull lard suffering from a gunshot wound on the 1200 block of mechanics street in cam. he was rush to cooper university hospital where he later died. so far no arrests in this case just yet. police have now arrested thee juveniles in the vicious beating of man at an olney gas station. this attack happened on april 7th on the corner of fifth street and somerville avenue. police say the suspects jump out of a mini van then beat the victim with a hammer and a piece of wood.

police had previously arrested three other women in the attack. sharine in a kim alicia guillard teepee is a dugans face murder charges. >> the scene avenue terrible tragedy is now dedicated as a place of healing. "eyewitness news" at the corner of germantown and allegheny streets in north philadelphia. a mural was officially unveiled honoring keisha williams and her thee children thomas reid, terrence moore and key air ya williams the family was selling fruit on the corner last summer when they were struck and killed by a pair of carjackers that lost control of stolen suv. >> i just have one last remark for all of you out here today hug your loved ones, cherish them, tell them you love them each and every day because you'll never know when it may be too late. >> today's ceremony also honored michael kevin williams. he was murdered on the lot in 2013. now philadelphia 35th police district transformed into

a movie theater this afternoon. lots of fun there. families were invited for a fun filled day of activities including watching the animated movie big hero six. you can't have a movie without snacks right? there were plenty of treats to go around. today's event is part of the police district's community out reach project. >> we can just keep in touch with the community. show some good old fellowship. share and bond with some of the kids in the district. >> well the kids who took part in todays' event were chosen from each police service area in the diss trek. and philadelphia girard park is getting a facelift. local lawmakers joined community leaders at the park on west shelf street today to unveil the planned improvements. the renovations will include all new walkways, lighting all throughout the park and other amenities as well. now the penn relays meantime are in full sprint this weekend. athletes from all around the world participate in the annual

event but this year one man in particular really caught our attention. george scott is 94 years old but shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson was there as scott competed today in the 100-meter dash. >> reporter: don't get me wrong. this is one excited crowd. these are the diehard fans for some of the world's fastest runners. but there's one race in particular the full crowd absolutely loses its mind. at 3:40 p.m. sharp on saturday thousand packed franklin feel at the old defendant event of its kinds in the country to witness 14 sprinters running 100-meters with more than a millennium of memories combine. >> this is a big one. >> masters 75 plus 100-meter dash a generation of stories between them. this year the oldest runner 98-year-old champ goldy went up against the competition's first female 85-year-old betty lee anterior. but we have been following the

tonight there's growing concern over synthetic marijuana also known as spice or k2. even though the drug enforcement administration bans synthetic marijuana in 2011, people are still finding it in places like tobacco shops and online. it's a plant material coated with thc the active chemical compound in marijuana. but unlike pure marijuana the manmade version is much more potent and can be deadly.

>> i warn you don't try any of this stuff. even marijuana you buy on the street do you not know if it was laced with any of these synthetic products. >> just this past week officials in the lehigh valley announced dozens have been treated for adverse reactions to the truck drug and they've also been eight suspected overdose deaths in lehigh county since april 16th april 16th. now nypd officers catch a coyote in new york. they tracked down the animal at about 7:30 this morning in battery park city on the southwestern tip of the island of manhattan. the coyote was tranquilized and taken to an animal control center. new yorkers have reported mull pell coyote sightings this week all over the city. i think we've had some -- not coyote something here locally. >> i'll find out what it was. >> always something out there. any who, justin finally am i going to be able to leave the coat at home this week. >> yeah. >> i got to get -- >> we'll warm it up just a little bit. that's certainly something to look forward to. get back to those spring temperatures. let's see what's happening

outside right now. still some mid to high level clouds over the region because there's a storm that's passing by to our south. now if you live south of dover delaware in he can treatment southern cape may county you might run into a little bit of rain showers through the overnight hours were you most areas stay dry tonight. like we mentioned talking about a warming 10 on the way so average high this time of year is 67 degrees. not even close to that over the past several days. we're in the mid 50s yesterday. today 58 degrees. but notice what happens as we head to sunday, even into next week we start to warm it up. average or maybe even above average as we push 70 degrees in the seven day forecast. we'll get to in in just a bit. fours to around 50 degrees for current numbers right now. those clouds acting as a blanket holding into in the heat at the surface. once those clouds thin out temperatures will drop so that's why the frost advisory still in effect for the lehigh valley overnight as temperatures could drop into the mid 30s there. but nothing terribly cold right now with a couple of storms to talk about. a will the of motion going on storm scan3.

one feature just to our south low pressure tracking by again basically dover delaware southward we're seeing the steady rains right now. then swirl over northern new england southern canada that's what's causing the cold temperatures. this cold pocket of air stuck here and will it will sit here for few more days until it moves out of here we're stuck with below average temperatures. pollen count very high. not a lot of rain to talk about to help clean out the atmosphere sunday monday and tuesday very high pollen counts. oak, birch and male pell the main pollens causing the problems for allergy sufferers. tomorrow morning a few clouds around but by afternoon increasing sunshine. not a bad way to finish off the weekend mid 60s with dry conditions. there's that storm i was talking about over northern new england backs to the south and west for monday bringing more clouds a few scattered showers monday afternoon. but we're in the 60s. the storm finally starts to move on out of here tuesday into wednesday. we'll see more sunshine then we warm upper 60s to around 70 degrees. there you go.

clouds through the overnight the first half of sunday morning. this is 8am. serve dry. just some clouds basically from the city on southward. more sunshine through your sunday afternoon into monday we go. the clouds start to thicken up a little bit for the afternoon maybe a couple of scattered showers nothing heavy not an all day wash out. most areas probably won't even see the shower activity. temperatures tomorrow, inland suffering into the low and mid 60s. cooler along the coastline and south jersey and delaware. kind of the same story for monday. 50s and 60s for the afternoon temperature. notice the jet stream you can pick out where it is to our south allowing that cooler air there's that cold pocket of air just stuck over new england. this is tuesday it's finely starting to move eastward. it will kick on here by the second half of next week and that's why we see the warmer temperatures. overnight again partly cloudy skies, maybe a few showers to the far south 43 for the low. a milder day on sunday partly sunny up to 65. and phillies forecast wraps up the series tomorrow with the braves looking good first pitch 60 degrees at 1:35.
