protesters clashed with the police in baltimore. >> violence did in the last long with thousands of officers patrolling and curfew in place it is a better situation than monday night. lets get out to edward lawrence who joins us in baltimore with the very latest on this, good morning. >> reporter: good morning ukee and erika. people are starting to move around on the streets of baltimore. take a a look, folks are boarding up the cvs pharmacy burn during these riots. you can see beyond police there ready to take action if needed in this area they are expecting demonstrators to come back to this a area. so there is still a level of protection here. national guard troops in armored hum vees are patrolling empty streets of baltimore. >> citizens are safe. the city is stable. we hope to maintain it that way. >> shortly before 10:00 p.m. tuesday police in riot gear backed by community members moved in on crowds of mostly peaceful protesters instructing them to go home after the mandatory curfew

go into effect. >> show is over, people go home. >> reporter: defiant protesters threw bottles and rocks. officers deployed smoke pepper spray and made ten a arrests. the situation on the ground is far cry from the events of the 24 hours ago when looting rioting abe fires overshadowed calls for justice for freddie gray. the 25 year-old died of the spinal cord injury week after being taken in custody. many act wrist believe the tragedy highlights ongoing issues between law enforcement and communities that they serve. >> it is important for us to establish a national standard for excessive use of force. we cannot have ferguson and baltimore happening again and again. >> reporter: many of the demonstrators on monday were teenagers, toya graham saw her 16 year-old on in the crowd of protesters and took matters in her own hand. >> that is my own son and at the end of the day i don't want him to be a freddie gray. >> reporter: results of the investigation in gray's death are due by friday.

chopper three looking at an accident in bustleton, this is a police car accident and this is only car involved. you can see front end crunched up as we are looking at cruztown road where it is happening in bustleton. it is closed down. lets hit the maps and show you where this is going on. it the is closing down cruztown between rising sun avenue and bloom field avenue. that alternate will be bustleton avenue to get around that scene. lets go to i-95, right around cottman. we are heading south in the the city. we will see brake lights showing up, that is increased volume as we head in the rush hour, speed, starting to slow down 48 miles an hour, right around vine street expressway. we are down to 35 in northeast philadelphia on i-95. schuylkill looking good as well as blue route at the speed limit. vine street expressway eastbound back opened. tonight at ten westbound from broad to 76 we will have one lane close another at ten and then midnight they will close second center lane,

temple students are rob at gunpoint inside of their homes. it happened on the 1500 block of north 13th street around 10:30 tuesday night. no one was injured. police say thieves took cash and a quarter pound of marijuana. central detectives say those suspects were wearing masks. a young boy is in critical condition after he is hit by a car in frank for. it happened on the 1700 block of brill street just after 8:00 o'clock tuesday night. that boy was rushed to children's hospital, philadelphia police tell "eyewitness news" that the driver of the car remain at the scene and accident is under investigation. an emergency landing at philadelphia international the airport after an engine on this plane catches fire. coming up later we will hear from the passengers. caught on camera a man stealing from the bucks county church but what he took is hurting a lot of people this morning. it is a new trend that could becoming to your child's school, flip classrooms. it means that the teachers

aid workers are struggling to get supplies to the most remote regions but there are stories of survival. "eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer joins with us an incredible story. >> reporter: amid devastation and climbing death toll we are seeing signs of hope across nepal. this is video of the grown man being pulled from the ruble there is also video this morning, images of a small baby being rescued, from the destruction as well. take a look at the a four month-old baby boy reportedly rescued from the nepal army and is in stable condition not showing any internal injuries. twenty-two hours after that 7.8 magnitude earthquake the baby a's crying were heard from beneath the the debris. newspaper reports say army left site assuming that baby was dead but return hours later and made that rescue. so no doubt just a striking,

updating our breaking news in bustleton where a philadelphia police officer suffer minor injuries after crashing his car. looking live right now from chopper three, we're told officer was responding to a robbery call when he crashed into a guardrail at krewstown road, and rising sun avenue. again, this was a one vehicle crash. we're told that officer is in stable condition right now at the hospital. we will keep on top of this to bring you updates as we get them ukee. time to check the the sports page. orioles and white socks will play today but fans will not be in camden yard. they are being kept out because of the unrest in baltimore. this is what the stadium

they have lice. american academy of pediatrics is updating guidelines. it says students should finish the school day and then return after being treated with an over the counter medication. group says it is important to remember that lice is a nuisance but not a serious disease. houston area high school is turning normal teaching method on its head. students are doing homework in class and getting lessons at home. teachers record their lessons on video and up load those on line, so students can access them on any device at the anytime. every student has a lap top, equal access to the on line lessons. >> easy part, they can stop go at their own pace and when they come to class they are applying it. >> i learn better here because i can ask questions when i need to. >> in class students solve problems or answer a question together. it eliminates frustrations students felt when tackling homework after school.

lets check with katie and just a beautiful wednesday. >> absolutely beautiful start to the morning and certainly the the whole day will be just be perfect for any kind of plans that you may have scheduled outside whether it is after school soccer practice or maybe you are just heading out for a nice long walk with the dog. lets look at storm scan three and radar and a satellite coverage. lets look at different layers. we don't see anything. that tells you something goodies happening out there. just look outside the window. this shot outside whitefield elementary school more like sit on the front porch with the cup of coffee reading the paper and that kind of thing. cool granted. think about grabbing a sweat shirt if you you do that but regardless a beautiful day. as we will go hour by hour throughout the course of the afternoon and into the evening. by 8:00 p.m. we are in the 60's but we are shooting officially for 75 degrees for our daytime high here in philadelphia with that sun lasting all day.

car going the other way. carries closed. but we are getting through the other toll boots may take you an extra minor so traveling up that way northbound on 476. bryn mawr water main break now morris avenue is totally closed due to the gushing water between new gulf road and carisbrook road. alternate old gulf road. that is your eye on traffic this morning. now back over to you. more on our breaking news we have been following. a philadelphia police officer injured in the crash. >> lets get out to that scene where justin finch just arrived, justin good morning. >> reporter: good morning. by all accounts this officer should be okay. he was taken to aria torresdale hospital with a head injury. that is what we are told. the lets take you to chopper three overhead to the scene of this crash. this is krewstown road south of the rising sun avenue. we are told that this officer lost control of his cruiser and struck a guardrail the air bag did deploy.

we are told the officer may have also hit his head on the windshield of his car. he was able to look for help as fellow office are respond and got them to the hospital this morning. this happened just after 4:30 or so this morning and krewstown road near rising sunnies closed at this time for investigation of this crash. how did this happen? we are told the officer was responding to a robbery call at a nearby lenient store. he lost control. that cruiter and struck that car hitting his head. he was able to radio for help and he is also walking and talking but the head jurist the question for doctors at this point because they don't know whether to treat him at the hospital, admit him or let him go home with treatment. that is still being decided. he should be okay. the the officers are telling me that this road here near rising sun at that bend can be dangerous near penny pack creek. in the past cars have gone over and crashed down into the water down there.

so this is a very safe call for this officer this morning given it could have have been worse out here this morning. the we are live from bustleton, justin finch for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". if you get anymore on the officer's condition please let us know. in other news, this morning, philadelphia international airport was the scene of an emergency landing. >> "eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer joins us from the the news room with the closer look at that nicole. >> reporter: tense moments on the tarmac the at philly international after a united express flight from raleigh-durham north carolina made an emergency landing on the way to the newark, new jersey. call came in at the 4:00 o'clock tuesday prompting emergency crews to surround that plane there were no injuries on board and all 75 people made it off safely. some good news there. the passengers described what they experienced as that plane touched down. >> the plane shifted, that side went down and just for a brief second you could feel that side drag. not a drop where you felt like it was out of control or anything.

maryland last month. she has been missing since new years eve. kyle crosby is being held on 1.2 million-dollar bail his mother is being held on $12,500 bail. witness testimony continues today in the colorado theater shooting trial of james holmes. yesterday ten witnesses took the stand. the katie medly who was nine months pregnant described what she saw in the theater. her husband was shot in the head and was last person to be released from the hospital. prosecutors say that holmes was aware of his actions a and defense says holmes was in the middle of the psychotic episode. holmes faces death penalty if convicted. teacher ing out after he stopped a student gunman. we told but brady olson yesterday and now he is talking about the the experience. student opened fire inside the school just outside of seattle on monday. olson, tackled the gun man who had fired two shots in the ground and ceiling. i reacted to a situation
