baltimore. one of the officers charged today did grow up in south jersey and we are hearing from people who worked from him. our team coverage continues with that, "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson is in washington township gloucester county steve. >> reporter: officials say 29 year-old edward nero was on bike patrol at the time of the apprehension and arrest of freddie gray. officials have have since called that arrest unlawful and gray's death a homicide, but we spoke to nero's former boss, the the the washington township fire chief who says that not only was nero a model fire fighter but an upstanding citizen here in his community. it is moment that sparked protest, unrest, and a national conversation. now, it is being labeled criminal. the the six officers originally suspended for arresting freddie gray in baltimore are facing charges ranging from misconduct to murder. one of them 29 year-old edward nero is not only from south jersey but used to serve his

community here. >> ed nero was a member of our department for approximately ten years from 2002, to about 2012. >> reporter: that is washington township fire department chief john hoffman, confirming to cbs-3 "eyewitness news" nero's tenure in this community. sources tell us nero grew up and lived in sewell, his former chief says at the time he displayed outstanding character. >> during his tenure he was an outstanding, dedicated fire fighter. basically had a very clean record, squeaky clean they were in trouble he was just an all around good guy for us. >> we do business with the guys down at the fire station. >> reporter: pizza a shop worker andrew says fire fighters are his best customers. he said he didn't know nero but is stun to learn that the officers, was to be a fire fighter from right down the street. >> weird crazy, i didn't known until just a few minutes ago there was somebody from the the fire department indicted down there. i just hope they can convict these guys if there was

"eyewitness news" new jersey reporter cleve bryan is live at the u.s. courthouse in newark with the latest, cleve. >> reporter: david wildstein has been cooperating for some time with federal investigators. he signed a plea agreement in january. today was his first court appearance. for his cooperation he faces zero charges and less recommended jail time than other two people being blamed for creating this traffic jam, at the george washington

bridge. in owning up to his own crimes friday david wildstein implicated two others. he confirmed under oath he was part of the three person plot to create a traffic jam in fort lee, new jersey to punish the the mayor for not endorsing governor chris christie's reelection campaign. at alleged conspirator are bridget kelly former deputy chief of staff to christie and bill barone a christie a appointe to the port authority of the new york and new jersey. >> that calculated scheme created havoc for his constituent is a and violated various criminal laws. >> reporter: wildstein and barone used the guides of the traffic study to do port authority staff in closing toll lanes at the famously busy george washington bridge. >> they deliberately waited until monday, september 9th which they knew was the first day of school in fort lee to further ratchet up the injury, to fort lee's resident. >> reporter: authorities say that the three deliberately ignored pleas from help and

maintained traffic study live as long as they could. grand jury indicted kelly and barone of nine count of abusing their positions. bridget kelly had this poncz in the last hour. >> i am not stupid. i'm not weep i insecure, unqualified, or overwhelmed. i believe i was and still am, a very qualified, hard working woman, who took pride each and every day in being a loyal public employee. >> reporter: governor chris christie is not being charged authorities say the case remains opened and wildstein still maintains he told the governor. >> mr. christie knew of the the lane closures, while they were occurring, and evidence exists, to establish that. >> reporter: the u.s. attorney would not comment on any connections with governor christie and the governor's office. this afternoon, put out statements saying that basically this indictment, confirms that he is cleared of any wrongdoing. live from newark, i'm cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness

not just 70's but even chasing 80's, we will talk more about that with the seven day when kate and i join you in the broadcast. >> like the sound of that kathy, thanks very much. a car crashes in to a building in bristol township bucks county leading to street closures and evacuations. chopper three over that scene at mill and wood streets today when a car hit a gas line and then the building. mill street had to be closed this afternoon and area around the building was evacuated the got news there is no one was injured. bucks county, high school, students are dismissed after two bomb threats are made, harry struman high school in levittown shortly after 11:00 this morning. the students had to be evacuated from the building and waited in the stadium area while police invest faithed. they found that the building and ground were safe. a mayday rally is underway in west philadelphia calling for a raise in the minimum wage.

vehicles of this nature being unaccounted for. >> reporter: chief inn expect or joe sullivan head up the philadelphia a police department home land security division. he is hoping that the public can help track down two stolen rental trucks. on sunday police say this van was one of three who stole a ford cargo van similar to this from this u-haul at 101 west hunting park avenue. they conned a homeless man into opening up a bank being, they gave him just enough money to get a debit card so he could rent the u-haul. >> he was directed to return, and they said that they would meet up with him later to return the van and at which time he would be paid. needless to say he was never contacted again. >> reporter: two days later a large yellow pepsi cargo truck was stolen from this location at 12th and washington avenue you in south philadelphia. a worst case scenario would be vehicles would be used in some kind of a terrorism plot but more likely case is less sinister according to police.

cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> reporter: er stephanie stahl has more on the power of hope and determination. >> reporter: fifty-six year-old carlos riveria is getting ready for the broad street run something he always did, until three years ago, when he was diagnosed with a rare cancer. >> it gave me a different outlook in life how fragilities. a lot of rocky roads along the the way it was scary we really did not know if he would be here. >> the tumor was on the left side of my neck. >> reporter: cancerous tumor was removed in the eight hour surgery that included reconstruction using tissue from his back. then there were grueling round of radiation and chemotherapy. >> he had a very tough dancer. >> reporter: doctor jeffery lou says from the beginning carlos was optimistic and determined, to get back to the broad street run. >> when hope is alive you are good. your body can be compromised but not your spirit. >> really an inspiration to everyone. >> reporter: temple has a

>> thanks very much. a brazen band it caught on tape stealing a bush, from a northeast philadelphia yard in broad daylight. home owner up loaded this surveillance video on line hoping to catch the thief. our matt rivers has more from bustleton. >> reporter: thief pulls up ape strolls toward the front door. convinced he ace loan and no one is home, he makes for the shrubbery. >> he was having a good hard time. you see him back and forth. he breaks the route and off he goes. >> reporter: that is michelle, giving us play by play. she says thief stopped by her bustleton home on thursday and she cannot figure out why he looted the landscaping. >> it is a bush. he cannot even replant it because he broke routes. the it will die. i am saying i have no word to explain this. >> reporter: while just a bush, it did cost several hundred dollars and more so than the cost, you just feel violated because it is a nice neighborhood and you're afraid they will come back and try to break in your house or steel your animals.

by a silver mitsubishi galante near park and diamond. police say that the young driver had a learners permit. his name has not been released. fire tears through a row home in north philadelphia a chopper three over that scene it happened in the 500 block of west cambria street in the fair hill section and 7:00 o'clock this morning. fire fighters were able to vent the roof of that home and that help bring it under control. we're told no one was injured. police need your help to try to identify a man that tried to steel from the cvs in the somerton section of the city. that young man entered the store and grab several electric raisers and attempted to walk out. he was stopped by a security officer, a struggle ensued and then he eventually ran out of the door. man drove away in the brown mazda, if you recognize him you are asked to call police. in nepal the death toll has now topped 6200 people. rescuers searched for more victim today was announced
