starting line for 36th annual broad street run and we are live, with all of the action, coming up next. plus this... we celebrate a new princess, i'm susan mcginn necessary london with the first glimpse of prince william and kate's baby girl. looking forward to that. good morning to you. it is sunday may third i'm nicole brewer at 8:00 o'clock. we will send it over to car will ol, we are in for a big treat. this is a stretch of weather that we just cannot get enough of. maybe by the the end you'll say i have had enough but not for now because yesterday was in the 70's. today will be close to 80. skies blue. sunnies out. i hope you are able to get out as well. so much going on here in philadelphia right now. cherry greg has been talking about that all morning. 40,000 people for broad street run, 63 degrees, will be the temperature by the time we get

to about race time, through the streets of philadelphia, with all of those people there it will feel hotter than that. we have had a lovely look here at beach patrol headquarters in margate. head there if you want to run in the sand and do what was that movie chariots of fire race ago long? we have temperatures of 54 degrees in the poconos right now. fifty-four in philadelphia. fifty-five in atlantic city. the the the wind are light to calm which makes it nicer out there. we have temperatures in the 50's and every single location including poconos. the just the last time we looked at this poconos were in the 30's. look at that wrapped warm up. that is what we will find today. storm scan three has nothing to track. maybe a couple cloud. it is probably unhappen bye that but rest of us are in the because we love sunshine especially on a week even. by noon 73 degrees. by 5:00 p.m. it is 80 degrees around here. beautiful day. it does not stop just today. we will talk about that and the the one day of precipitation that is coming up nicole. >> lots of people will be enjoying that forecast, carol

especially if they are out and about for broad street run this morning. the first set of runners where to take off in that run. it is a philadelphia tradition. 10-mile course starts at broad and somerville and then end at the navy yard in south philadelphia. right now for us cherry greg from our sister station kyw news radio 1060 is right in the middle of the action. we under tan they are all lined up, just about ready to go right, cherry. >> reporter: that is right nicole. the mayor michael nutter is currently on the stage. he gets to pull blow the horn, and get the runners started. 40,000 people are lined up, as you can see everybody is, sort of moving around, trying to stay warm, waiting for that horn to blow. i think he is about to start there they are a couple minutes behind schedule but the the crowd have gathered a along the side, everybody ready, they are anticipating, you can see wheelchair team over there ready and able to

go. ready to make this thing happen. people have prepped for months weeks in anticipation of today and it is about to go down. 10 miles, all the way down broad street, the navy yard, where that is the finish line. there is water, there is half million cups of water will be distributed to day and there is stations all along and i understand there is parties pretty much at every mile where people water. you can hear michael nutter revving everybody up getting folks ready for this 700 you this dollars that has been raised for the american cancer society. it is about the the run but it is also for a good cause as well. i think this is it. i think this is it. they are about to get started. any second. and there is going to be starting a wave. they will be timing the the runners with a special chip

inside of their bib , so, this is in the on the honor system people. they will get real times. the wheelchair runners have started and any second now we will get the major horn as the the race kicks off. folks are taking off their warm up gear getting ready to get started what they have been waiting for is about to happen. lots of anticipation around this moment. today is also like they lost a major, one of the event planners, so this has been sort of a commemorative run for them. they are all getting ready. they are clapping. mayor nutter is going over there shaking hand with some of the runners giving them that last bit of of encourage. they need to get started. and i think that people are sort of here. it is a lot of electricity in the audience. people sort of sitting side line with camera phones

anticipating the run to get started and people have really hyped about this. i have been talking all morning and they could in the wait for to it happen and they are about to blow that horn it seems like something is going on there. everybody is sort of just waiting. standing. yeah runners and. and waiting for the run has started, 10 miles, all the way down broad street, just about every neighborhood in philadelphia they will go to the navy yard where folks will wrap up. live at the starting line for broad street run cherry greg for kyw news radio for cbs-3 eyewitness news. >> great to see them off started, again, 40,000 runners, running through center city philadelphia a huge event for our city. great to see it getting kick

off here. good to see it. meanwhile, authorities are working to figure out who spray painted anti police graffiti on a garage door in olde city. this was discovered around 6:00 this morning on bank street near, elbow lane. philadelphia police are investigating on site there. it is unclear when the vandalism actually happen. plainclothes new york city police officer is in critical condition after a being hot in the leg in queen village. suspect is in custody. police say that officer was attempting to stop a man suspect of carrying a hand gun. investigators say it a appears the suspect fired two round in the officer's unmark car around 6:00 last night. officials identified the officer as brian moore a five-year veteran of the force. thousands gathered in baltimore in the name of freddie gray. gray died last month seriously being injured in police custody. cbs news correspondent craig boswell is in baltimore where

police are enforcing a 10:00 o'clock curfew for a fourth night in the row. >> reporter: couple hundred people peacefully marched in baltimore saturday a day after a prosecutor filed criminal charges against six police officers involved in the arrest of freddie gray. >> people are cautiously optimistic about moving forward. they believe that they have been heard and at least there have been charges brought. >> reporter: march started at gillmore homes where gray was arrested april 12th. the the 25 year-old died a week later from spinal injuries sustained while in police custody. demonstrators brought their mess a age to city hall where thousands took part in what organizers called a victory rally with toy celebrate the charges brought a against the the officer. >> black lives matter. >> white lives. >> matter. >> reporter: security was tight but there were no reported problems. yah vet dorsey came with her daughter and grand children. >> i want them to be part of the history and change that is about to take place.

>> reporter: baltimore's mayor help distribute food saturday afternoon in west baltimore where residents have struggled for basics including healthy food. corner stores were destroyed or closed down, because of the riots earlier this week. >> now it is about healing and working toward a recovery. >> reporter: mayor says these have been dark days for the the city but that the the community is pulling together to move forward. in baltimore craig boswell for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and you can keep it the right here to cbs-3 for today's face the the nation, bob schieffer will have the very latest on the situation in baltimore at 10:30. we will get a preview talking to been live from washington just ahead in the next half an hour. >> police are looking for suspects who killed a with man in west kensington. woman in her 40's was just a attacked before 9:00 on north fifth street. she was rushed to the hospital where she died. investigators are not sure if that woman died from the gunshot or stab wound but they are leaning toward the fact that she was shot to death. police believe that the victim knew her attacker. a nine year-old girl is

recovering in the hospital after she was shot with a bee-bee gun. this happened saturday afternoon on the 900 block of in humeville bucks county. police say that girl was extently shot in the chest by a 21 year-old family member. she was later air lifted to children hospital of philadelphia the the girls condition has in the been released. police have have located a penske truck that was stole men south philadelphia last week this was recovered empty on the the 11 hundred block of rising sun avenue saturday morning. the search still continues for that u-haul truck that was stole men hunting park. police say this man was within of three suspects who stole it. while there are no credible home land security threats related to that truck, authorities wanted to find them as soon as possible. we do have some good news to report out of nepal this morning. eight days after a deadly earthquake, three survivors are pulled from the ruble. the 7.8 magnitude quake struck on april 25th killing more than 7,000 people. many are stranded in remote areas and have have yet to

receive help. meanwhile health officials say fear of disease looms. there have been reports of gastrointestinal issues in several is districts and those remote areas worst hit by the quake. last weeks quake hit with such force that it actually made mount everest shrink. scientists say mountain is about an inch shorter now then before the the quake. everest is still the world's tallest peak. well, is there a big celebration overseas after the birth of the second royal baby. the the tower bridge in london was deck out in pink in honor of the princess born yesterday. bt tower flashed the sign it the is a girl high atop that landmark. royal navy spelled out the word sister on one of the flight decks. cbs susan mcginnes report, william and kate have already taken their new daughter home from the hospital. >> reporter: duke and duchess of cambridge are spending their first full day as new parents to a new princess. prince william and kate gave the world the the first glimpse of their 8-pound

good morning everyone. broad street run is underway. the thinks live look in olney where first set of runners went off ten minutes or so ago. 40,000 runners in total are participating in the run. runners will travel 10-mile course starting in ol will any and ending up in the navy yard in south philadelphia a long with broad street runners will be greeted by cheers and encouragement from folks in philadelphia all lined up ready for that race but you can see is now underway. lots of folks. 40,000 runners. busy day. hey, speaking of races, there is a mystery surrounding last in's boston marathon. a runner was dared to kiss a stranger and new she's pleading for help to find him. katie brace from our sister station in boston has her story. >> reporter: this photo remains the one clue barbara has in her marathon quest. >> i believe in fate. it was a nice kiss. he kissed me again. and he yelled out for me to

call him. >> reporter: barbara is runner in the photo. she was among thuses of qualified run hours burst off the starting line fearless about what was ahead. >> i wanted it to be a great time but not in terms of the clock but in terms of the experience. >> reporter: woman of wells see college are known to give kiss toes runners. her daughters dared her to do something else. >> they dared me to kiss a good looking guy along the course. that is exactly what i did. >> reporter: when she hit 50 barbara started run. he beat cancer a and recently divorced. running was the start of something new. this was her first boston. >> i ran the race, with the thought in my mind that i was going to, just use it a as an adventure and enjoy every opportunity that came my way. >> reporter: that is exactly what she did with the the kiss. barbara hails from memphis and also travels to boston for business. she will run at the the chance to meet the the mystery man but understands that she was

car. ben franklin bridge looks terrific. ocean looking right on time. beach quiet. do whatever you want out there, within limits and just enjoy yourself. here comes somebody coming right along with his dog. i love that. so yes beach is an active place today. we have temperatures on have 54 degrees in the poconos. and it the is same temperature in philadelphia wind are calm out there and even warmer in atlantic city at 55 degrees. everybody enjoying the lack of wind. we are not buffeted around when temperatures are halfway decent. they will be more than a half will way decent today. fifty-four in philadelphia right now. fifty-one in trenton. fifty-five in will mink ton. temperatures in the 50's, love to it start the day. finishing the day around 80 degrees as we will inland absolutely perfect. it will be cooler at the shore. we are getting a a sea breeze but coming off the ocean. ocean in the 50's and their temperatures are warmer than that as the sun starts to come

up and starts to do a little magic, sea breeze later on today will income those temperatures back so that i'll show thaw but probably, in philadelphia 80 degrees. you will be 10 degrees cooler at the beach. storm scan three we have a few clouds on their way out as they should be. we want to leave this sun day, and just a stellar stretch. temperatures today around 80 degrees. maybe get to 79, maybe 81 if you are lucky enough. otherwise high pressure still here as we go through the the afternoon hours and then tomorrow, our temperatures will climb even more. monday may be the warmest day we have seen so far this year. eighty-one, back down to april the 18th. we will probably be i think about 84 degrees tomorrow and that is going to be the warmest day of the year, mostly sunny skies this front starts to come through here. that is on tuesday. that changes things up a little will bit. but in the meantime though, the warm air coming up from the south, jet stream riding well to the north and allowing that warmer era allowing it to come in here and it will be great around here.

here's a neat looking computer model. you'll get the same information. notice color table yellow, warm when it the starts to turn red. that is pretty hot afternoon with temperatures in the 80's. the let's start this off. we have temperatures that are just fine. a few clouds out there, particularly to the north as we move on through this evening. and then, tomorrow, we will look great. we do start to warm up, keep your eye on this, this is that front that will be coming through here so it is a warm day on monday but it is a dry day, this front starts to get closer. this is a a look on tuesday as cloud come in, some showers tuesday morning, through the the area, possibly, to we see a few more in the afternoon is there a then are storm associated with that frontal boundary? it is possible. just something to watch. it gets out of here on wednesday. pollen does not get out of here. we're left with pollen but once the rain comes if we see any on tuesday that should knock the the pollen back just a little bit. otherwise 80 in philadelphia, 72 at the shore. poconos 70 degrees. light wind every place just wonderful, you will remember this winter when we would have

just one of those numbers on here, and so having them both together at 58 not bad for a nighttime temperature. as we go through the the next couple of days, 84 on monday. tuesday maybe some showers but still very mild. wednesday, slightly cooler. cooler day in the upper 70's and then we are right around 80 degrees at least. after that coolest days in the upper 70's. moy kind of forecast, carol. lets check on the roads with ann good morning. >> good morning. we have i-95 at broad street. broad street is famous because it is site of the broad street run. welshing it is always famous right.reet is shut down between olney avenue and navy yard in both directions. also i the 95 off ramp is closed. you cane that to the left of the screen. that is closed in both directions. broad street run is well underway. it got underway at 8:00 this morning. the also closed or also detoured are septa bus routes around the run. the visit septa.org for more information. we will move the the traffic cam here to the schuylkill expressway at 30th street. oh a little will dark on

nicole. >> carol, looking forward to that. now new this morning we have sad news here a man is stabbed to death inside of his west philadelphia home. police tell us that the 35 year-old man was stab in the chest and abdomen. this all happened in the 5800 block of christian street around 12:30. there is no word on a suspect at this time. also new this morning, two people are rushed to the hospital after a fire rips through their camden home. fire broke out in the row home in the 700 block of florence street before midnight. there is no details right now on the condition of the victim the causes still being investigated. a driver is dead, and four construction workers are injured after an accident at a work zone on the pennsylvania turnpike. this happened saturday morning in the eastbound lanes of the turnpike in bensalem bucks county. police say construction workers why using a vehicle to pick up cones to reopen a closed lane when they were struck by the second vehicle. the the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

the cause of the crash is under investigation. a two car crash in west fill leaves two people dead and send a third person to the hospital. the accident happened after 2:00 in the morning on the corner of 62nd and walnut. investigators say one of the vehicles flipped over and caught fire after the crash. so far police have not filed any charges. they say their investigation is ongoing. new jersey state police say six people were hurt in this crashriday night that involved a military convoy from fort dix. they say a car clipped the back of the military hum vee on the turnpike in hamilton township mercer county. the driver, a 35 year old solder from fort drum in new york, was thrown from that car and suffered serious spinal injuries. three other passengers were injured. two victims in the the car suffered minor injuries. the crash remains under investigation. all right. well, 36th annual broad street run is now underway, 40,000 runners, participating in today's race.

it will be a busy day in philadelphia cherry greg from our sister station kyw news radio 1060 is live at the the starting line in olney. if morning cherry, how is it feeling out there? >> reporter: good morning, nicole, the race started about a few moments ago and every few minutes another round of runners gets to take the track down broad street. as you can see folks are gearing up for another wave of the start at the the starting line. folks have been divided in to waves base on their anticipated finish times. 40,000 runners, all together will make the track down broad street all the way to the navy yard, on the side there is a party music playing. had mayor michael nutter personally high fiveing and cheering on runners as each wave began the race today a lot of the proceeds combo to the american cancer society 700 you this dollars raised, that is as far more anticipated and another round of runners are just about to
