ed and community is not taking the news very well. troubled waters in a community searching for answers. >> everybody is wandering why she did this. >> reporter: police say in broad daylight sunday afternoon 19 year-old jonish a perry stopped her son's stroller in the middle of the hamilton street bridge. eyewitnesses watched in horror. perry removed her son lifted him over the guardrail and threw the one year-old off the bridge. moments later she jumped. >> we're very upset about what is going on right now. >> reporter: neighbor carmen soto lived on north hall street. she said teen just moved in a few weeks ago. she appeared shy but nice and took care of her son. >> she seemed very happy. she likes to stroll her baby down the block, take him for walks and what not. it is craze what i happened. >> reporter: police say the child dropped more than 50 feet into about 4 feet of water, filled with rocks. after about a 700-yard journey, lasting more than

four minutes police rescued and revived the child. perry, suffered just minor injuries. >> i hope that the baby makes it and she makes it. i feel bad what she did. i feel bad for the family. >> reporter: police say the investigation is ongoing but they are treating this asiana tempted murder/suicide. perry had has been charged with attempted murder and being held in custody on hundred thousand dollars bail. that is latest from allentown i'm steve paterson for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> all right steve thank you. developing right now at 5:00 o'clock fire fighters respond to reports of the burning home in chester county and find three bodies inside. investigators are at the scene of the fire now. flames broke out around noon time today. fire fighters raced to hill road and west caln township and that is where we will fine pat ciarrocchi with the latest on this still developing story, pat. >> reporter: jessica, in fact, it is an investigation that is

intensely involved. we were able to get close to the scene. take a look at this tragedy over my shoulder, a tragedy on this country road in west caln township. three women were killed here that fire as you said breaking out just afternoon time today and you can see how destroyed this home was from chopper three you can see charred remains of once what was a prefabbed home in the shape of the double wide trailer. the fire burned quickly and intensely, and in fact, because of the conditions here at the -- conditions today being dry and windy the fire also ignited some of the trees, surrounding the home. we also understand that there were two men and two children who escaped this fire, and this is fire chief todd todd zigler from the the fire department. >> crews went to work immediately. upon, you know, fighting the fire we had three victims inside. at that point we continued to

extinguish the blaze. we're in an operation where we are in the the process of mopping up. >> reporter: now also as you look here, at these live pictures of this burned out home, we also have learned from neighbors that the matriarch of the family, died here last night and that the women killed here today were either family or friend who came to grief the loss of the older woman. as you can see with the fire fighters still here fire marshall is on the scene and the investigation is underway at this point to find out exactly how this fire started. reporting live from west caln township pat ciarrocchi, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". all right, just a devastating scene there thanks very much. driver is killed when two trucks collide in lower macungie lehigh county that closed northbound lanes of the northeast extension of the the pennsylvania turnpike for several hours this afternoon. lets go to chopper three which was over the scene the northbound lanes are still closed right now at mile marker 53.

police say that the driver of a box truck rear ended the tractor trailer just afternoon time today traffic wound up being backed up in both directions for several hours. a pair of not guilty plea is today in the george washington bridge scandal that rocked the office of the new jersey governor chris christie. "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan was there today as one of christie's confidents spoke out vowing to clear his name. >> reporter: governor christie's former top appointe to the port authority of new york and new jersey bill barone had a clear air of confidence heading in to federal court. christie's former deputy chief of staff debbie kill even both lost their jobs for allegedly taking revenge on the mayor of fort lee, new jersey because he wouldn't endorse governor christie's reelection. >> i'm an innocent man. >> reporter: both barone and kelly pleaded not guilty to charges of causing a four day traffic jam in fort lee by closing access lanes to the

george washington bridge. on friday davey wildstein who work below him in the port authority, pleaded guilty to similar charges. >> this essentially is a one person witness against my client. a witness who has been described by many people over the years, to be kind and peculiar. >> reporter: on friday barron's lawyer called his client a liar and kelly will to explain the e-mail that broke it wide open where she told wildstein time for some traffic problems in fort lee. he is accused of lying before state lawmakers investigating the lane closures. >> i will testify, on my own behalf, as soon as the trial begins. i will spend every day working to clear my name and get my reputation back. >> reporter: governor christie said he had no knowledge the political traffic scheme this trial is set to begin july 7th so it may still hang over christie's head if he follows through with plans to announce he is running for president by early summer n newark i'm cleve bryan cbs-3 "eyewitness

news". well several small forest fires burning in south jersey, may have been intentionally set. chopper three over some of those flames in pemberton township burlington county. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones is live in browns mills today where a dry warm windy conditions are posing a threat to the pilots. todd? >> reporter: and chris those fires here today have all been labeled suspicious by investigators and right now detectives are trying to zero in on any potential suspects. five brush fires burns pardoned of the hamilton up to ship scorching more than 80 acres 50 separate fires. anytime you have a situation like that it is an indication, of a man caused, issue. >> reporter: arson investigators are working to determine if the fires intentionally set, and using fire fighters, and, new jersey forest fire service lit backfires. sections along route 07 were

blackened as they tried starving the fires to prevent spreading, by doing a controlled burn of a dry under brush. the timing of the five fires is unusual but it also helps get them mostly contain relatively quickly. conditions were not right for a naturally occurring event when fires were first reported at around 4:00 o'clock in the morning they were cooler temperatures dampness on the ground and little wind. >> if we had this mess at 2:00 o'clock this afternoon it the would have been a giant mess. >> reporter: fires are in largely wooded areas of the pine barons so no homes or structures are being threatened and is there no evacuation today. largest of the brush fires is along route 70, it burned more than 40 acres. and at fire fighters you see here of contained two of the brush fires, 100 percent of the remaining fires right now are between 70 and 80 percent contained and fire fighters here hope to have those brush fires 100 percent contained by 8:00 tonight. live from pemberton township

new jersey, todd quinones, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". doing hard work out there todd thanks very much. red flag warning is in effect that means any brush fire can quickly spread. meteorologist kathy orr is live on the cbs-3 sky deck with more on the fire threat, kathy? >> part of the problem jessica is the wind as you can see. we're looking at wind gusting to 30 miles an hour still across the region and that red flag warning will continue until 8:00 o'clock tonight. we have talking about enhanced fire risks across the region. lets talk about that real estate we are dealing w temperatures are quite warm. that combined with the warm wind and relative humidity being quite lose that is the the issue. we have southeasterly wind gusting to 25 miles an hour, relative humidity at 25 percent, dry fueled, brush and branches and of course, temperatures are still in the mid 80's. that will continue through this evening. it is 48 in philadelphia. eighty-two in wilmington. millville is 82 degrees.

the gusts to 30 miles an hour in philadelphia today. reading gusting to 29. mount pocono gusting to 32. these wind will slowly diminish during the evening when that fire risk will be reduced. it will be reduced further tomorrow because we are talking about showers and thunderstorms with a front approaching from the west. we will talk more about this threat coming up with the seven day forecast, when i join you inside, for now back to you. kathy, see new a bit. in baltimore a man with the gun was arrested today near the scene of recent riots. preliminary reports indicated a man had been shot but police say that information was not accurate. meantime maryland's governor is withdrawing national guard troops, in baltimore over the next few days but a state of emergency remains in effect. city wide curfew was lifted yesterday and police officers will remain in areas of concern as protests that are mostly peaceful continue. well, still to come here on "eyewitness news" an amazing survival story after that earthquake in niece paul.

heat will roll on tomorrow another very warm day cooling down somewhat wednesday but when we say cool, we mean temperatures in the 70's believe it or not. right now we're talking about july-like heat in philadelphia 84. eighty-four allentown. seventy-eight in the poconos. atlantic city 80 at the airport. we are warmer in philadelphia then it is in raleigh-durham, charleston, even atlanta and birmingham nashville, we are looking at temperatures well above normal along the east and it will stay that way for at least one more day. we have a cold front that will be moving through tomorrow afternoon with scattered showers and afternoon thunderstorms. those thunderstorms will be scattered as well and right now the environment is not favorable for anything severe. that is the the good news. future weather starts off tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. it the will be a sunny morning. by lunch right along i-95 corridor to the north and west you'll see cloud rolling in and then, they will invade jersey shore. but by two are 3:00 we will see scattered showers or

thunderstorms popping up. a few thunder showers possible. when we lose daytime heating we will lose most of that activity. front will move through on tuesday afternoon in, to the evening, temperatures still managed to make it in the 80's, at least 85, and then in the wake of the front some sun as we clear it the out and high pressure will be building in. last week it looks like this front could linger, but right now it looks more progressive high loss stronger, it will push to the south and giving us another beautiful day on thursday low humidity, so there is going to be air coming from the north with plenty of sunshine. we will get temperatures in the 80's, this time of the year, much more comfortable than june, july, august and we don't that have moist environments. we don't have humidity. but we have our allergies and you can see pollens are high for oak, burch, mapel tomorrow, we're high, lower in the wake of the cold front on wednesday, and then it goes backup to high, 9.9 on thursday with more warm windy weather. so during the evening it will

there's over two hundred thousand students in philadelphia. jim kenney and tony williams are fighting over public schools versus charters. i think they're both wrong...it's making sure they all get a good education. teachers should have their contracts respected. they also should be held accountable. and it's wrong philadelphia gets less school funding than other parts of pennsylvania. i'll work with harrisburg to change that. but if they refuse i'll take them to federal court.

i'm chris may. not guilty pleas from one people accused in the george washington bridge scandal. bill baroni and bridget kelly deny wrongdoing in the lane closures that rocked the administration of new jersey governor chris christie. and, allentown mother is charged with attempted murder after she and her one year-old son were pulled from the lehigh river yesterday police say that 19 year-old jonisha perry threw that baby in and jumped her solve. several for is fires are burning in pemberton township and authorities believe they may have been set. at this point none of the fires is a threat to homes or people but they have burned about 50 acres, red flag warning is now in effect meaning conditions are favorable for fires. we've got the some breaking news right now lets

go live to chopper three which is over a one car accident on the the northeast extension. this has happened between quakertown and lansdale in lower southford township montgomery county. you can see that car has rolled over and come to rest near a tree. this is southbound lanes of 476, where the car went off the road. we are told that the northeast extension has been closed now in both directions, so that a medical helicopter could land. the is there an ambulance there on the scene. there is medical attention being paid to that driver but medivac'd is there and, there is a one car accident, in lower southford township montgomery county. we will keep an eye on this and keep you posted throughout the night jessica. it mate be warm and dry outside but tropical weather was on the mind of many today in egg harbor township, specifically hurricanes. the the national ocean and atmospheric administration noah for sure took it tour to

atlantic city. meteorologist kate bilo is live there with more including a look at the planes that go right in the heart of the hurricane, kate? >> reporter: and jessica it is a blustery daze here in atlantic city but aircraft behind me c130 hurricane hunter from the airborne division is used to some very, very strong wind. whole lot stronger then what we are feeling here. thinks the actual aircraft that flies in the middle of the hurricane. take a look flying directly in the eye of the hurricane like sandy or katrina. the brave men and women who flew the aircraft do this for a living. but today aircraft is here in atlantic city on a beautiful day for a different reason. >> thinks the first of five u.s. stops on the east coast hurricane awareness tour for 205. >> reporter: the doctor says main message of the tourist be prepared. >> if these brave men and women are willing to fly in the hurricane to give us data to make forecast and warnings, to makeou safe, the least we can do is to prepare in

advance as a family. >> reporter: main purpose of the hurricane hunter's mission toys transmit real time information about the the storms to the national hurricane center. this is done using drop songs. >> thinks a drop song, one of the weather instruments we release from the airplane. when we are ready to release it we're actually, this is my drop sensor. so it is in the upright position. we're ready to release. place tonight there. lock it down on top of shoot-out of the bottom of the airplane. >> reporter: it measures temperatures wind, dew point and other information transmitted to the on board weather officer someone like major nicole mitchell a meteorologist who analyzes the data and send it straight to the national hurricane center. >> being a hurricane hunter is awesome as long as you are okay with turbulence and it is a great job because you see up close what mother nature is doing and really be in it. plus you know data thaw are getting and work of the hurricane center directly

prior to the violence police say that security at that conference was extremely tight. >> the the security concerns they have is because of the top of it and the speaker that they were having, and issues that have been with those folks before. >> reporter: the the american freedom defense initiative, sponsored the cartoon contest. this same group has drawn kit criticism for anti muslim ads which appear on the side of the septa buses. a new york city police officer who was shot in the head on saturday has now died. twenty-five year-old, brian moore, was in a coma after under going surgery. moore and his partner were trying to stop a man suspect of carrying a gun in queens. when police say the suspect dimitri blackwell fired twice hitting moore in the head and face. blackwell is being held it in, without bail. message of forgiveness from the parents of the slain pennsylvania state trooper corporal brian dickson.

dickson's parents spoke sunday at a church in the poconos during a special event for their son. they say that dickson's accused killer eric frein must face just advertise but they hope by forgiving him it can help ease the pain of losing their son. >> we loved brian. wye do not know eric frein. >> there is a separation of than the built that comes in eternity. we know we will see brian again. eric frein does not have that hope. >> eric frein is charged with killing corporal dick son and injuring trooper alex douglass in september. frein led police on a 48 day manhunt before he was finally arrested. prosecutors are seeking the the death penalty. the death toll in nepal has listen to over 7200 following that 7.8 magnitude earthquake last month. but among the massive devastation a hopeful discovery was made. over the weekend this man said to be 101 years old was rescued from the ruble. authority say he is in stable condition and unsure how he survived under the ruins of

by weeks end. meantime retired neurosurgeon doctor ben carson officially announced his presidential run today. raised in detroit by a single mother doctor carson practiced medicine and served as head of the pediatric neurosurgeonry at johns-hopkins children's center in baltimore. he has been an out spoken critic of the affordable care act. good evening everyone. quite a busy day traffic wise, just know even before i address what is behind me you will find rush hour all usual places. ninety-five, schuylkill expressway, vine street expressway, in and out of the center city and northeast philadelphia and specifically talking about 95. let's address what is behind me. we will step out to get a better eye tea of live chopper three on the scene of the very serious crash. one vehicle accident. chris may was talking about this earlier in the opening. you will notice a medical helicopter on the scene. this is southbound side of the northeast extension where this accident occurred. you will notice medical emergency personnel on the

if you filled up lately you know gas prices are on the rise. drivers are now paying the highest, prices of the year about 60 cents more a gallon compared to what we paid in january. still, triple a predicts prices this december will be lowest in about five years. lets look at the averages right now cost $2.77 a gallon to fill up here in pennsylvania. in new jersey it is 2.49, on average, and in delaware, drivers pay, about 2.59, a gallon. well, you do not have to be on planet eartha parentally to enjoy great coffee. >> that is right italian astronaut samantha christopher ready made herself a perfect shot have of espresso in outer space. she posted this picture from twitter drinking from her zero gravity cup there. she waited a long time for that machine, which arrived three months late due to backlog. she has been in outer space since last november and will return to earth, next week.

>> early detection is key and for the first time i feel like i have a chance at early detection. >> reporter: holy redeemer is one of the first to offer the automated ultrasound done in conjunction with regular mammograms. >> some studies say that up to a third more cancers can be found when you combine these modalities. it will give us one more tool to be able to identify cancers, that would otherwise not have been mammography detect. >> reporter: breast surgeon beth due presays this is what a regular breast looks like, it is easy to spot potential trouble but with dense breasts it is almost all white which can hide cancer. >> i call it white on rice. you cannot find that polar bear in the snowstorm because it is obscured. >> reporter: pennsylvania has a new law that requires women with breasts that are dense to be notified. they have an increased risk of breast cancer because it is difficult to find. >> after i did these there is a high level of concern that maybe is there something there that they did not catch. >> reporter: for this woman
