00 o'clock, all of the lanes of the northeast extension of the pennsylvania turnpike have been just reopened, after a car accident, closed the road in both directions in montgomery county. chopper three, live over the the scene, in southford township between lansdale and quakertown exits there. police say a car ran out southbound side and flipped over. they had to close the road to allow a medical hell cooperate tore land there. less than 20 miles a waste another part of the northeast extension was closed earlier today when two trucks collided in lower macungie lehigh county. this happened today shortly after 12:00pn in the northbound lanes. police say driver who was driving a box truck rear ended a tractor trailer and died in that crash. traffic was back up in both directions for hours. well, also developing right now at 6:00 just a scene of pure devastation in chester county. fire fighters battled a fast moving fire only to make a grim discovery. officials say that fire killed

three women although other members of the family were able to escape. good evening. i'm chris may. i'm jessica dean. first responders rush to the scene at 374 hill road in west caln township this afternoon. our pat ciarrocchi is learning details in this tragic story and joins us live from that scene, pat. >> reporter: tragedy really is an under statement, guess contact you can see evidence of the fire tragedy as fire breaking out a little after 12:00 o'clock. some activity you may see behind us is a second call that these volunteers have been just call out on. we don't know exactly where they are going but they are moving very quickly. as for this fire throughout the day they needed to hose down the hot spots. this is the place where three women were killed. the smoke is still rising from the charred remains of the home, talked in a wooded area along a country road in west caln township chester county. last night neighbors tell us that the the matriarch of this

family died. she lived in this home. today, three women who came to grief for her were killed in the fire. >> we have reports of people trapped. >> reporter: wagon town fire chief todd zigler tell us that five volunteer fire companies responded just afternoon. >> crews went to work immediately. upon fighting the fire we found we had three victims inside. at that point we continued to extinguish the blaze. >> reporter: two men and two children escape the fire. identity of the family and relationship to each other has not been released. win conditions made this fire more difficult to fight. flames burn some of the wooded area surrounding the home but fire fighters were able to keep it under control. and even here now, six hours after this fire first broke out, evidence also remains in the air. you can smell the burning timbers, here for actually a prefab home describe as a double wide trailer. fire fighters are moving on to another call and the fire

investigators from chester county police as well as state police are involved in this investigation and it is very active. tonight, a family is in mourning reporting live from west caln township pat ciarrocchi cbs-3 "eyewitness news". terrible tragedy for them, pat, thanks very much. authorities say that several small fires burning in heavily wooded sections of south jersey may have been intentionally set. you can see here that the plumes of smoke from those fires, the focus of the fire fighting effort right now is just off of route 70 in pemberton township. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones is live for news browns mills with more, todd? >> reporter: chris investigators here are stopping short of using the word arson but they definitely say these five fires are sus fish us. the forest service contend there is practically no way five naturally occurring separate brush fires all bee again in roughly the same area. >> anytime you have a situation like that it is an

indication that a man caused issue. >> reporter: more than 80 acres burned and up to the men and women of the new jersey forest fire service to stop it. at this point threaten. at this point there is nothing threatened. >> reporter: that is a major victory considering the conditions in pemberton township, wind gusts of more than 20 miles an hour, lower humidity and higher temperatures. >> the conditions that are ripe for a good fire. >> reporter: arson investigators are working to determine if all of the fires were intentionally set. largest fire burned just off route 70 and score much more than 40 acres. controlled backfires were lit to burn the under brush and try to starve the fires. >> let them burn in toward the main wild fire. what that does is it deprives the fire of fuel. >> reporter: fires were first reported around 4:00 monday morning. fires are largely in a wooded area of the pine barons and no evacuation where is ordered. fire fighters continue to show up on the scene here. thinks common center, thinks where they are showing up to get well deserved breaks

because their work is still not over. as things stand at this .2 fires are 100 percent contain. rest only about 70 and 80 percent contained, although, they will hope to have rest of the fires 100 percent contain by 8:00 tonight. reporting live from pemberton township, new jersey todd quinones for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> keep us posted, thanks very much. dry windy conditions todd was talking about has prompted a red flag warning for much of the region. lets go outside to meteorologist kathy orr with more on the fire danger and what we can expect through the evening as well, kathy. >> chris, everyone has been enjoying, warm windy weather but it comes at a prices specially with very dry conditions. that is why that red flag warning is in effect until 8:00 o'clock tonight. look at the real estate we're talking about entire region with the exception of the shore that fire danger will continue the enhanced fire risk, right into the evening. here's why. we are talking about temperatures in the 80's, high today of 58 degrees,

southeasterly wind still gusting, of 25 miles an hour. relative humidity at 25 percent. we have dry fuel, branches, the brush, and that is the the perfect mix for a mess and for fires to spread very quickly. right now we are still in the 80's with the exception of the shore and poconos where it sits at 77 degrees. and the wind out of the southwest now sustained at 13 in philadelphia, and you can see in the atlantic city airport sustained at 20 miles an hour and still gusting. fire threat will weaken tomorrow and showers and thunderstorm, moving in. we will talk more about that with the seven day forecast, we will also talk about mothers day when i join you inside. >> okay kathy, we will see new a bit. now to an "eyewitness news" on the course of the philadelphia's broad street run. both runners are alive thanks to the quick thinking actions of a few law enforcement officers. "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter spoke exclusively with those broad industries heroes.

>> reporter: among 30,000 racers in the broad street run these two, might just be the biggest winners of all. two runners whose lives were saved when they suddenly collapsed unconscious with heart problems. fbi video showing the the first the at broad and lehigh barely 2 miles in the race, as he is brought back to life by philadelphia police officer matt fleming with fbi agent brian hoffman and two fellow agents. on the scene within seconds. >> he was not conscious not breathing they were doing chest compressions and he was not breathing. >> there was no real life scene and that changed from our actions. so definitely there was a great concern for this individual well-being. >> reporter: as agent hoffman trained as emt performed cpr officer fleming also an emt brought a defribillator from his van moments later the first signs of life. >> we started to check for pulse and he had a pulse and started breathing.

>> it is very gratifying. this is a younger individual, close to their 30's, and, you know, very concerned for their welfare. >> reporter: shortly after the first runner was saved here a second runner, a 27 year-old, collapsed 8 miles down broad street at the the finish line. philadelphia medics there instantly, to save his life. >> there was a gentlemen standing as close as you are to me right now, collapsed in front of me and medics were just to my right and they sprang into action and they revived the individual. >> reporter: chief inspector joseph sullivan says he is optimistic both runners are on their way to full recoveries. >> hopefully they will be able to be back next year and run the broad street run again. >> reporter: suddenly for two runners, this years broad street run became a race for life, a race thanks to well trained and well placed police fbi agents and medics, they won. in center city, walt hunter,

cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> real life savers there. a mother and her baby rescued from the lehigh river. police charged would the man with attempted murder after they say she tossed her child over a bridge and jumped in herself. "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson has reaction from the neighbors in allentown. >> this is just messed up the whole block everybody is wondering why she did this. >> reporter: it is question hitting this community in allentown, residents on hall street wondering how could their new teenage neighbor do something so shocking. >> oh, my gosh. that is horrible. >> reporter: police say in broad daylight sunday afternoon 19 year-old jonisha perry stopped her son's stroller in the middle of the hamilton street bridge. eyewitnesses then watched in horror as perry removed her son from the seat, lifted him up over the guardrail and threw the one year-old off the bridge. moments later she jumped.

>> sheshe would come over and we would talk. >> reporter: rosa pagan says the teen just moved to this home on north hall street. >> and we just don't know why she did this. but we all are going through it, the whole block is sad. >> reporter: officials called what happened after the fall miraculous. police say baby dropped more than 50 feet into about 4 feet of water filled with rocks. after a 700-yard journey lasting more than four minutes, police were able to rescue and revive the child. perry suffered just minor injuries. >> we're all very upset about what is going on, i hope they make it and baby makes it, and hope they get to the bottom have it. >> reporter: police tell me they are working on details of the investigation but they are treating this asiana tempted murder so side. perry has been charged with attempted murder held on hundred thousand dollars bail. reporting live from allentown steve paterson for cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

6:00 a.m. 64 degrees. 8:00 a.m. for the race 70 degrees. by brunch time 10:00 a.m. 77 degrees and mostly sunny. if you are coming out please register. it is going to be a very beautiful day in philadelphia, and across the region. lets look at our temperature. high of 85 in philadelphia. that is the warmest day since september 28th. temperatures running 15 degrees above normal. right now in philadelphia, it is 83. eighty-three in allentown. seventy-seven in the poconos. eighty-one lancaster. down the shore comfortable temperatures in the 70's, ocean water temperature slowly warming at 55. but compare this temperature to the south it is warmer in philadelphia then raleigh-durham and atlanta nashville, birmingham and little rock. only place beating us out today is st. louis and we made it to 58. temperatures mild in the evening. we have that clear sky, the cloud moving in tomorrow, and then, the rain. some showers and some

thunderstorms but nothing severe expected. we are looking at all of the indexes that we look at when we are forecasting severe weather. it is not coming together for this event which is the the good news. by noon we will see cloud along i-95 corridor, new jersey still in the sunshine and then we will see scattered showers and thunderstorms bubbling up in the afternoon. two or 3:00 in the afternoon in the dinner hour and then as the sun goes down, everything fades on the radar screen. that is good news. in the wake of the front we have cooler conditions but ahead of it the for tomorrow afternoon still well in the 80's but then on wednesday we will cool it down in the 70's. earlier last week it looked like a front was stalled and we would have some issues with rain. it is not the case. this high pressure system is strong enough to kick that front to the south dominate our weather bringing more sunshine and low humidity to our forecast on thursday, high temperature 8o overnight tonight, low of 64. it will be please an. tomorrow is cinco de mayo wouldn't you know 85 degrees
