anya curry was in the back seat when someone in the pasting car shot out of the rear window. her two sisters age three and four, were also in the back seat but fortunately they were not injured. little girl's mom and boyfriend were double parked outside boyfriend's apartment. police believe that two people in a dark colored sedan, got upset about the traffic being tied up and traffic being blocked, and then one of them decided to shoot at the car as they passed by. just moments ago we spoke with the girl's mother and father. they met us here outside of chop. they told us the eight year-old girl is set to have surgery tomorrow to try to remove that small caliber bullet from her skull. >> right now, they are just out of it. she's making progress but she's in pain. >> reporter: what do you have to say to the person that shot the shot. >> just turn yourself in. she's eight years old. she didn't deserve this.

and west, in philadelphia 83. eighty-two in millville. here's storm scan three. you can see some showers in the lehigh valley, that is rain cooled, some along i-95 corridor in baltimore and washington and a big elongated shower that is in burlington county and was in the pennsylvania area, near philadelphia, now you can see it moving through the pine land. it is heading toward lbi southampton, tabernacle along 206 and also, 70 that is where you to go towards the shore. we have heavy rain on the road right now in burlington county. this evening we will expect scattered showers, some with heavy downpours mostly brief temperatures around 80 and wind out of the west. there will be a light breeze. coming up in the wake of the showers, a major cool down, the big question is how long does it last? we will take a look at that plus a look ahead to mothers in a that weekend forecast when i join you inside. >> kathy thanks.

developing right now police release a sketch of the man they say abduct and sexually assaulted a woman in fishtown this happened last friday on the 2,000 block of east york street. that suspect drove off in a 90's dodge or chrysler mini ran and abduct that woman at gunpoint. if you recognize this man with this vehicle call 911. tanker truck carrying gasoline overturn, and burst into flames on the ramp to the new jersey turnpike. that crash happened around 1:45 on the southbound ramp to the garden state parkway in woodbridge. police say that the truck driver was flown to an area hospital and suffered severe burns. the crash also caused a brush fire, that has since been extinguished, we're told ramp is expect to remain closed throughout the the the night. well, an investigation into a deadly hit and run of the camden county man has led investigators to ask the public for help. that man was found on the side of the road near west graysberry and east atlantic avenue in audubon last month.

"eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan spoke to the victim's family as they searched for answers. >> people should consider coming forward and say i'm sorry. >> reporter: police no very little about the crash that killed christine dean on april 9th audubon police were called to the intersection of east atlantic and west grays berry avenue. driver spotted 36 year-old dean lying in the street. he was taken to our lady of lord hospital and later pronounced dead. >> we are asking that if anyone heard or seen anything around the time of this incident, please contact the camden county prosecutor's office. >> reporter: police say at this point they have no witnesses, surveillance or certain if christine dean was crossing east atlantic avenue. all they knows dark rainy night someone found him laying right here against this storm drain. we believe someone saw something. >> reporter: erika riley remembers getting a dull in the middle of the night from another siblings. >> she told me he was in heaven and from that point, we have been asking our questions

and getting our answers and there is still a the lot of questions. >> reporter: police are now calling this case a suspicious death the but they cannot rule anything out. even though her family is heart broken they would forgive the driver if he or she comes for. >> there are people out there that choose to not say i'm sorry. that is hard. that is hard. >> reporter: anyone with information should call audubon police or camden county prosecutor's office n audubon i'm cleve bryan cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a philadelphia streets department worker is critically injured after being shocked while fixing a streetlight this happened before 11:00 at 51st and wood land in southwest philadelphia. police say 59 three-year old man was working in the bucket truck when he came in contact with overhead wires. the man suffered burns on his hand, face and chest. peco briefly suspended power in that area until the situation was under control. two people are taken to the hospital, after a septa bus crash involving two

vehicles. this happened on north broad street and bristol street in hunting park around 9:00 this morning. police say bus accident involved a car and park vehicle, all of those injuries are reported as minor. crews responding to a three alarm fire in the 900 block of east laurel street in reading. chopper three was over that scene right around 9:00. the flames engulf four homes in all and damaged one other investigators say that the the house where the fire originated a has collapsed. one person was hospitalized, and listed in stable condition tonight. we're learning much more about the the fire, in west caln township yesterday that claimed three investigators now say that the fire was accidental, and that it started with discarded smokey materials in the plastic trash bin that was outside of the home. investigators say fire spread rapidly because of the weather conditions. also today the victims have been identified, 58 year-old rolanda, her sister, sally

remel and angel remel all died. search is on for two men accused of stealing copper from a home in philadelphia's mayfair neighborhood. surveillance videos shows suspects arriving in the white van in the 2900 block of brighton street yesterday. the neighbor thought they were contractors cutting the grass but when he later contacted the home owner who recently moved out she said that the men had stolen copper from the home. an update to a story we have been following for you police say man seen in this surveillance video stealing had shrubbery from the yard of the bustleton home has been arrested. forty-one year-old joseph turn himself into police on saturday, after the augustus street home owner posted that video on facebook. that video received more than 565,000 views. he is now you charged with theft. campaign 2016 now, former arkansas governor mike huckabee will make a second run at republican nomination for president.

all across the country there is celebrations for cinco de mayo holiday spanish for may the fifth. it marks the mexican victory over france at the bat of pueblo on may fifth of 1862. while there are some official observances in mexico it is much bigger here in the u.s. as the celebration of mexican heritage and culture. now the holiday shouldn't be confused with mexican's independent day, that is not until september the the 16th. a lot of us assumed it was always fifth of may but that is just cinco de mayo but still a great the day nonetheless. >> awesome. >> great dancers, fun to see them showing off a little bit. >> great color and food and drink associated with that. >> yes. >> no rain for earlier today which was nice. >> yes. >> celebrating cinco de mayo or going out and waking the dog tonight it will be a nice evening. we have scattered showers and some with heavy downpours. we will check them out on storm scan three. looking at observation as cross delaware valley courtesy of our weather watchers you'll

see those at the bottom of the screen aecidia beautiful day to be outdoors with temperatures in the 80's. the down the shore cooler. ocean city cape may county the board getting busy, waking up a bit as i warmer and we will get closer to the summer season. live neighborhood network takes us to the beach or rehoboth beach delaware where temperature is 64 with a southeasterly wind at 5 miles an hour. little earlier today we had a shower that went right to the south of rehoboth beach and now it is off shore. you can take a look at storm scan three near baltimore and washington. we have some showers. rumbles of thunder. in burlington county crossing over toward the shore into ocean county we have some rain some heavy in chatsworth and heading on 72 eastward, this is way to lbi. you can see right here heavier rain making its way toward surf city and also into places like ship bottom. you'll see those heavier downpours coming your way right along tabernacle

chatsworth road right now. we also have some rain that i mentioned moved through the delaware beaches that was earlier today some spotty showers and some heavier downpours, and again, watch the cell really develop across the way and right around the causewayne to the south of the rehoboth beach. now some stray showers and also a few extra cloud lingering. that is about it. eighty-three in philadelphia. seventy-seven in allentown. seventy-two in the poconos. seventy-eight in wildwood. that temperature measured at rio grande w those southerly wind cooler to the south rehoboth beach delaware 77. cape may 78. avalon not bat at 75. ocean city 77. barnegat light with the easterly wind at 74 degrees. ocean water temperature still at 53 which is around normal, for this time of the year. ocean warming up much slower than the land. a bit of the lag in temperature as we say. future weather shows spotty showers popping up but it does continue this, into the evening and by midnight we have one batch of rain moving

through with our cold front and then we will dry it the out and skies become partly sunny by tomorrow morning. all because of the cold front that goes to the south. we will get that easterly win tomorrow and that will cool us down. it will be breezy. temperatures in the 70's which is seasonal but relative liz cooler compared to what we have seen. back to 80 degrees on thursday. we will bump backup for friday, staying in the 80's, same goes for saturday but keeping an eye on this low to the south to see if a few clouds will be sneaking up toward our region. pollen count will remain on the high side as we make our way through thursday and friday as it turns warmer and gets breezy as we head toward the the weekend. overnight low temperature 60 degrees. during the day tomorrow, 74. we will be on the cool side. on the exclusive eyewitness weather three day forecast 80 thursday. friday 83. next half an hour we will talk more about the the weekend and a clouds will win out by mothers day that is coming up with the seven day next half an hour, for now, we will take

there's over two hundred thousand students in philadelphia. jim kenney and tony williams are fighting over public schools versus charters. i think they're both wrong...it's making sure they all get a good education. teachers should have their contracts respected. they also should be held accountable. and it's wrong philadelphia gets less school funding than other parts of pennsylvania. i'll work with harrisburg to change that. but if they refuse i'll take them to federal court. as mayor i'll do what's right for them. just can't seem to escape... another sneeze attack... you may be muddling through allergies. don't get caught off guard.

i'm chris may. here is some of the day's top stories for you: a police officer is injured on a motorcycle after colliding with a car in bensalem bucks county. that crash happened on street and knights road, the officer was taken to the hospital but we're told he will be just fine. police hand out flyers in audubon, camden county today. they are looking for information about who hit and killed christopher dean, the 36 year-old was found injured in the the street last month. he later died at the hospital. and tanker truck carrying gasoline overturned and burst into flames on the ramps to the new jersey turnpike in woodbridge. that crash sent a truck driver to the hospital with burns and also sparked that brush fire. kathy? >> chris, we have a cold front in moving through and that will change our weather dramatically. a few spotty showers but turning much cooler tomorrow and then temperatures warming up again but we could be in for a weekend spoiler. i'll explain that situation coming up with the seven day later in the broadcast jessica.

>> thank you. terrorist group isis is claiming responsibility for the attack outside of an art contest near dallas. the the mother of the suspects is also speaking out as new information is released about the gun man. cbs news reporter adrian a diaz has more from garland, texas. >> as we say to america defender of the cross what is coming will be even worse. >> reporter: audio statement on isisal bayan radio station warns u.s. of more attacks like the one in garland texas. it is the first time the terrorist group has claimed responsibility for an attack on american soil. the white house says several agencies are investigating 34 year-old nadir sophie and 350 year-old elton simpson to see if they had any connection to the extremist group. >> too early to say at this point. >> reporter: police say 29 men arrived at this dallas area conference center where an art contest depicting the prophet mohammad was being held. they are armed and opened fire wounding a security guard.

both men were shot dead by police. >> i cannot imagine what went through his mind. >> reporter: sharon says her son was a devout muslim but never thought he would hurt anyone. >> i mean to be convinced to do something like this, it is beyond, just beyond me. >> reporter: men drove a thousand miles from phoenix arizona to this event space in garland, texas. the building reopened today. the fbi started investigating simpson nine years ago. as investigators searched the suspect's apartment in phoenix for more evidence on monday, law enforcement sources say soofi was never on their radar. adriana diaz for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the u.s. attorney general loretta lynch is in baltimore today as she meets with the family of the freddie gray. plus city and police officials, members of the congress and community and faith leaders. lynch took office just over a week ago as the riots and unrest in baltimore peaked.

the justice department is expected to review separate report from the baltimore police department in a use of force against gray. a subway worker clearing a garbage can off a subway track is nearly killed and it was all caught on a cell video : just incredible there. that worker climbed out on to the tracks because garbage was blocking the the train. the can then hit third rail setting off that explosion. this is what is unbelievable, that worker was in the hurt. authorities say vandals likely put that trash can on the tracks. environmental groups are suing six flags great adventure ironically over plans to build a solar powered facility. those groups say that the theme park will have to cut down 19,000 trees to make room for solar farm and they say it is illogical to cut down trees for facility that is supposed

to combat climate change. six flags has pledged to replant 26,000 trees and it says that the solar facility will reduce carbon dioxide emissions. today is 50th anniversary of the arrival of the first u.s. ground troops in vietnam. >> "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson has the the story of the local veteran who was there, that day. >> reporter: may fifth, the anniversary of u.s. ground troops landing in vietnam. the beginning of the real combat for our nation and a generation affect by war. this year marks the 50th anniversary of direct involvement, that commemorate most memorial is a cross the country look just like this. empty. >> the vietnam war is first war that we won all of the battles but we lost the the war. >> reporter: vietnam veteran robert was member of the 173rd airborne brigade. when they landed in force the united states landed in force. >> they were shooting at us this way. our guys were shooting at them this way.

could live. in olde city, steve paterson for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". good evening everyone. traveling out and about right now is going to be slow. all of the usual culprits, schuylkill, 95 taking a look behind me, if you are making your way out of the northeast down through vine street expressway and reverse heading in to northeast philadelphia, out of center city, you will be delayed. speed sensors still down in the teens and this rush isn't going anywhere anytime soon. take a look at the schuylkill expressway this shot at city avenue making your way beyond roosevelt boulevard heading out toward western suburbs westbound still a full horse. i know it is saturated here but even making your commute out of the area of south philadelphia down through vine street expressway is still a slow go and as you continue your way through to 476 and area of the pennsylvania turnpike you will need to give yourself more time. thirteen is your average speed sensor on the schuylkill. fifteen on i-95, 17 on the

we have a few scattered showers, outside there but they are few and far between and they will be moving through and creating some cooler conditions, come tomorrow. but right now everything is looking good in the city. let take a look at what our eyewitness weather watchers are saying, temperatures on the cooler side down the shore. we will start off near ocean city where temperature is 72 degrees. the james is saying we have a southeasterly wind at 21 miles an hour, bit breezy, but how can you complain about today. i say the same thing. further inland, doesn't take much time to get to buena vista ande temperature 82 degrees. justin land makes a very big difference with much warmer temperatures, perfect day for the most part some dash cloud, moved in but no rain so far. we did see some rain a little bit further inland near lumberton and medford you can see rain cooled temperature here of 76 in southampton. doug is reporting .4 of an inch of rain. temperatures dropped due to a

heavy downpour. this is much needed rain. that is definitely the case. i want to show you a few beautiful pictures from our eyewitness weather watchers. of course, beautiful flowers and also we will take you on a boat, charles send this from down the shore looking really pretty late this afternoon. as we look ahead temperatures will be on the mild side, this evening and then we will be cooling down. look at storm scan three we have showers through baltimore and washington and some to the north and west. you can see through north central pennsylvania all associated with the cold front but not much in between. little bit of the dry slot here as front makes its way eastward. we could see a few more showers bunneling up with the front but other than that big story will be cool down tomorrow. high pressure moves in and in the wake of the front it will be breeze which that easterly flow temperatures in the 70's about 10 degrees cooler then it was today. during the day on thursday we will bump temperature up to 80 with more sun during the day on friday, nice again but look

at this to the south. area of low pressure that could bring increasing cloud over the weekend. it is all because of this developing tropical system right now it is sharing some subtropical characteristics fueled by some warm water and also some cool air. we have a 40 percent chance of this developing into a tropical system in the next five days. we will watch moisture move toward the the north and impact carolinas over the weekend. weak wind to the east, more cloud could spill in the delaware valley. that is what we're talking about the clouds could keep our temperatures down a little bit over weekend but right new we are looking for partly sunny skies. we will look at that seven day. overnight tonight mostly cloudy, showers will even low 50. during the the day tomorrow high of 74. some sun but cooler with that easterly win. hour by hour you can see 66 in the morning. by noon 72. staying partly sunny through the afternoon 68 by the dinner hour. that is not the so bad. still above average.

and went in for a result sound. >> radiologist said everything was fine. take some leave and things should get better. >> it didn't. >> it got much more painful wasn't getting smaller, so i decided to see a breast surgeon. >> reporter: mri and biopsy revealed stage zero ductal carcinoma inn situ known as dcis. shocked by her diagnosis she was in for a happy surprise when her long time boyfriend nicholas francanie proposed the next day. today they took on the cancer as she underwent a double mastectomy and reconstruction. >> you just think it is not going to be me especially breast cancer. i don't have a family history. i'm so young. >> reporter: then a year after her initial diagnosis another shock, the cancer was back. >> i was like how could this be back? then your mind just wonders and like is it back? is it worse. >> reporter: she had

additional surgeries and new preparing for radiation all while keeping that positive attitude. >> it is least assuring to know that the strength and character that she displayed throughout this, that is my wife, personally will spend the rest of my life with. >> reporter: honored she will be at 25th annual susan komen race for the cure at 2015 survivor. >> on sunday you will come down steps with the other survivors, what will that moment be like for you. >> standing next to people who have been through the same things, that have dealt with the same problems whether they were physical, emotional and it is so nice and inspiring to see those people next to you. >> we will celebrate caitlin we will celebrate all of those women, and we hope you'll join us for live coverage of the 25th anniversary of the komen race for the cure for breast cancer, 25 years of saving lives this year. we are live on the air at 6:00 a.m. this mothers day it is this sunday may tenth.
